Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by El C (talk | contribs) at 13:57, 20 June 2021 (→‎COVID-19: indef WP:ECP re-upgrade). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: IP users keep deleting relevant content. I understand that it's not pleasant, but these removals violate WP:NPOV. Due to the album having been recently released, I suspect it may happen again. I would like to request semi-protection at least while waiting for traffic to subside. Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Over a decade of IPs either removing any mention of Montenegrin literature or any mention of Serbian literature from the lead and/or infobox. Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 02:18, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism since the past days. SeanJ 2007 (talk) 02:20, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The article is being constantly vandalized by IPs who don't understand MOS:DEADNAME. Quinn was notable under their former name, and the IPs keep removing her former name against our policy. SirEdimon Dimmi!!! 02:59, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Template protection: High-risk template – Match protection level with Template:Infobox islands. * Pppery * it has begun... 03:29, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Persistent disruptive editing by some users. VictorTorres2002 (talk) 03:43, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The last eight edits (over five months) have been unconstructive edits or vandalism from IPs and edits which reverted them. Non-autoconfirmed users aren't going to be filing or closing adminbot requests, anyway. Tol | talk | contribs 04:10, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continued vandalism by multiple IPs shortly after protection expired. POLITANVM talk 04:30, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Regular vandalism and disruptive editing due to an ongoing political event, specifically a very polarized general election. Fasscass (talk) 05:10, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Upgrading to ECP, per WP:ARBCOVID. Frontman830 (talk) 05:22, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Do you see any vandalism from auto-confirmed user at this page? I think ECP wouldn't be necessary unless there are persistent distruptive editing from autoconfirmed users, in fact, there are no distruptive activity from autoconfirmed user as per page history. If you argument tends like this, why you not requesting protection for all COVID-19 related articles, because one tool of protection doesn't arbitrary. In addition, there are many tools of page protection, for example like semi-protection which seems is already applied and can be used in GS COVID-19. 36.77.93.251 (talk) 05:36, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are numerous edits by these spam accounts, it caused disrupt to among readers (such as misinformation, poor quality sourcing, etc.) Unless, if WP:ARBCOM occurs. --Frontman830 (talk) 07:37, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:ARBCOVID doesn't authorized extended confirmed protection. It is any admin itself can doing that regardless of that protection level. 36.77.93.251 (talk) 08:14, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Frontman830, the page was already extended-confirmed protected by El C in July 2020, and the protection was lowered to semi-protection after a month in response to a request.[1] There have since been multiple incidents that could justify re-upgrading the protection, such as the addition of text about a "smoking protects against COVID19" theory (Iciplascarfern, 30 contributions), the repeated addition of disputed text about the "laboratory leak" theory (AccurateJournalist, 30 contributions) and an edit war 2021-05-23 about the same topic (SaltySaltyTears had 446 contributions when joining the edit war). I'm generally inclined to grant such protection requests with the ArbCom case, and my statement there, in mind. I need input from El C, though. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 08:29, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, is it already moved this article to "COVID-19"? --Frontman830 (talk) 08:33, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes, since March this year. 36.77.93.251 (talk) 08:34, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The protection settings have been moved from "Coronavirus disease 2019". The log is still there ([2]). ~ ToBeFree (talk) 08:35, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with ToBeFree. As for today, i don't see any effort to vandalize or distrupt the article by an autoconfirmed user. As long as far i know, only average one or three edits occurred per day as page is already semi-protected. But it can be different if the article is unprotected and IPs join it to vandalize the page. 36.77.93.251 (talk) 08:35, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. I'm of the opinion that we ought to err on the side of severity when it comes to the COVID-19 article (as the nexus for, erm, COVID-19), for obvious reasons pertaining primarily to the health and welfare of our readership and, in connection to that, also to the reputation of the project. As I note in the log, perhaps in the not too distant future, we can try downgrading again. Hopefully. El_C 13:56, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IPs have been removing sourced content frequently over the past few days. Ab207 (talk) 05:37, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Pages linked to Uyghur Genocide

Indefinte permanent extended confirmed protection: These pages should be protected under the WP:GS/UYGHUR. 184.145.29.92 (talk) 07:10, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia:General sanctions/Uyghur genocide does not authorize extended confirmed protection.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:45, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Declined it, Ymblanter. This IP user does not know about protection guide. 36.77.93.251 (talk) 08:11, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 08:37, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Please can this article be protected against moves for the duration of the AfD. Creating editor moved it to draft to seek to escape the conclusion of the process, and removed AfD notice. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 08:46, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Dynamic IP abusing the talk page as a forum for several days already. Jeppiz (talk) 11:41, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Skyerise (talk) 11:54, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP user keep adding WP:CSECTION. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 12:58, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IP edits are impacting the neutrality of the article. Specifically, the subject was legally never found guilty of animal cruelty and the charges legally dismissed. Our article has to be very careful in the way we present facts when it comes to talking about criminal behavior where the individual was never found guilty of the crime per WP:NPOV. This is an article of a living person, so we need to be extra careful for legal reasons.4meter4 (talk) 13:39, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Unprotection: I contribute Article. Mr.Siddharthrajvanshi (talk) 07:45, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    @TomStar81: the protecting admin. El_C 10:05, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
{{RFPP|d}} (Declined:) Definitely not. No need to ask. The article is protected to prevent exactly such article creations by users who do not yet appear to understand our notability criteria. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 07:50, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: ToBeFree, this redirect has been fully-protected for almost a year, but it looks like my question about that got garbled somehow... El_C 09:41, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. El C, after looking at the autoconfirmed requester's contributions, the lowest reasonable protection seems to be ECP to me. In cases like this one, I'd say the difference between these two protection levels is theoretical. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 11:55, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ToBeFree, be that as it may, it seems like an odd protection-level choice. El_C 16:15, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, waiting for input then. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:19, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

"On 1 April, seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen, including a dual US-Canada national, a Palestinian, three British citizens, an Australian, and a Pole, were killed in an Israeli airstrike south of Deir al-Balah" as per [3], [4]. 148.75.59.49 (talk) 23:26, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest adding to 'War Crimes' a section about the Sde Teiman detention camp. The use of concentration/torture camps is a very notable war crime and an important fact as it pertains to the ceasefire negotiations regarding hostage swaps. It is also relevant as many have been taken from Gaza and are being tortured under pretext of "interrogation." Jdftba (talk) 08:36, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
