In the lead-up to the 2024 United States presidential election there was doubt surrounding President Joe Biden's ability to run for re-election.[1] Biden had suggested during his 2020 campaign that he would only serve one term.[2] Before announcing his re-election campaign, Biden was facing historically low approval ratings,[3][4] and several polls showed a majority of Democratic voters did not want him to run for re-election.[5][6]

On April 25, 2023, Biden announced his campaign for re-election with mixed reactions, though most Democratic voters said they would support his campaign.[7]

In October 2023, dissent from other Democrats grew following his response to the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel and the subsequent American support of Israel in the Israel-Hamas War.[8] As the 2024 Democratic primaries began, Muslim leaders and anti-war activists led Israel-Hamas war protest vote movements, urging Democrats to write-in or vote uncommitted.[9]

On March 12, 2024, despite challenges from U.S. Representative Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson, among others, Biden won enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee and finished the primary with almost all of the delegates.[10][11]

After his poor performance in the first presidential debate on June 27, there was speculation that Biden may end his campaign.[12] While concerns about Biden's age existed before the debate, they continued to grow.[13] With less than less than two months before the Democratic National Convention, elected officials, donors, and celebrities began to call for Biden to drop out of the race.[14]

This is a list of Democrats who have expressed opposition to President Biden's nomination in his 2024 campaign for President of the United States.
