I need your help, please?
There is an ongoing ANI Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Vandal-like_disruption.2C_aspersions_and_PAs_at_WP:AVDUCK which I filed because of the disruptive behavior of 3 editors, one of whom is User:I9Q79oL78KiL0QTFHgyc/Previous_Account_Names who has a history of sock activity and disruptive editing. I certainly don't want to make false allegations against any editor but his disruptive behavior at WP:AVDUCK leads me to believe he's back at it, especially considering the IP keeps restoring the gibberish he added to an image caption at the essay now subject of the ANI. I believe the IP may be a sock: . At the very least the timing is suspect. I don't want to get in trouble for falsely accusing anyone so I am seeking your advice as to the proper steps I should take. Thank you in advance. <font style="text-shadow:#F8F8FF 0.2em 0.2em 0.4em,#F4BBFF -0.2em -0.3em 0.6em,#BFFF00 0.8em 0.8em 0.6em;color:#A2006D">Atsme</font>📞📧 18:32, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Harassment

Hi Alison. You've helped me on occasion in the past with oversight issues and tracking down block evaders and I really appreciate it. I have a completely different issue now. I'm being harassed through a subtle form of outing. I'd like to discuss it with an admin offline. How do I go about doing this? Should I submit an OTRS ticket? Thanks in advance. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 06:29, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there. If it's privacy-related, can you email me, please? We can take this off-line - Alison 07:08, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is privacy-related but impatience got the best of me so I submitted an OTRS ticket yesterday. I'll e-mail you if I need any additional help. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 16:21, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. Sorry about the delay in replying. My new job has me very busy these days and I'm not on WP for nearly as much as I used to be. Hope OTRS folks can help you out :) - Alison 18:30, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, no need to apologize. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 18:37, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Two more for deletion

Regarding certain articles you deleted recently, there are two more that remain [1] [2]. They should be gone for the same reason, unless I'm missing something.Legitimus (talk) 12:38, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Alison. You protected this page some weeks ago, but the protection has expired. Because the TV show Big Brother is concluding this week, would you kindly extend the page protection through this weekend? After that, we should be ok. Sadly, the article was just vandalized again by the same editor. What do you think we should do? -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:09, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. I've actually gone ahead and suppressed that edit, per policy. Not okay at all! - Alison 23:15, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for butting in here uninvited, but I am watching "Franke Grande" and saw the edit Ssilvers brought to your attention. Thank you for suppressing it. Regarding the editor in question, they have been blocked before for edit warring, in addition to being warned numerous other times regarding their edits on that particular page. I am all for everyone getting a second chance and am really trying to hard to keep assuming good faith. Honest mistakes are fine because we all make them. Even occasionally intentionally mean-spirited stuff can be overlooked and ignored as long as they are acknowledged and not repeated. This particular editor, however, still does seem to get that such edits/behavior is simply not appropriate for Wikipedia. I don't want to sound like a fuddy-duddy, but this kind of stuff, in my opinion, shows a serious lack of maturity and I am not sure how much rope this person needs to keep being given. - Marchjuly (talk) 00:46, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Thanks for the move/merge. :-) I must say, I'm a bit dismayed by the apparent cultural acidity toward new articles (or perhaps toward old users) around here these days... it's giving me plenty to think on, in any case. Hope you're well. --MZMcBride (talk) 16:21, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. commons:File:Emails.jpg in your edit notice is super-cute!

Thanks for your edit to Weev. I was unsure about the reliable source policy. Would it be possible to link to the article without making any assertions as to its content? Hebrew Warrior (talk) 02:25, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there. Not really, per WP:ELBLP and per WP:BLP as it could be considered quite disparaging. You'd need some pretty hardcore, reliable sources before you can brand a living person as a neo-nazi - Alison 02:27, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, typical drunken Irish bitch. If you even are a bitch. You might even be a man, or an...intersexual thing.

The Irish are anti-Semites who side with the Arabian imperialists in order steal the Jewish homeland. You scum recognize the fake "State of Palestine," an illegal Arabian colonial entity on Jewish land.

  • It's really hard to care, Jeremy. I've largely moved on from Wikipedia & shite like this doesn't bother me. I couldn't even be bothered reverting it, to be honest. You - you, on the other hand, are still here after almost a decade of wasting your time lookup up proxies. Your fail is writ large on Wikipedia - it truly is. Grow the fuck up and move on already. Noone cares any more - Alison 08:20, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • You know very little about Jewish life in Ireland, BTW, which is kinda sad given you and your mom claim to be Jewish. Sixth president of Israel?, Gerald Goldberg? etc etc. Ireland has a rich, Jewish heritage - Alison 08:24, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yeah, a rich, Jewish heritage. Annals of Inisfallen, 1079: "Five Jews came from over sea with gifts to Toirdelbach, and they were sent back again over sea." There's the rich medieval Jewish history of Ireland. By the seventeenth century, there were a few Jews living in Dublin, with a single synagogue. Since 1891, the number of Jews in Ireland has always been fewer than 4,000. Then we get the Limerick pogrom—oops, ahem, "boycott"—and non-intervention during World War II and indifference to the Holocaust. Post-war, Jewish groups had great difficulty in getting refugee status for Jewish children, whilst at the same time, a plan to bring over four hundred Catholic children from the Rhineland encountered no difficulties.[33] The Department of Justice explained in 1948 that: "It has always been the policy of the Minister for Justice to restrict the admission of Jewish aliens, for the reason that any substantial increase in our Jewish population might give rise to an anti-Semitic problem." Oh, and that Israeli president you mentioned? "On July 18, 2014, a window of the synagogue in north Belfast was smashed. The day after, the replacement window was smashed too.[46] Less than a month later, a house in the city with a plaque honoring former Israeli president on it was targeted by anti-Israel protesters who threw items on the house, scrawled racist graffiti and tried to take down the plaque with a crowbar. Eventually it was removed by the community out of concern to the residents living in neighboring houses.[47]" And you people seem to have problem with accepting Muslim "refugees"—hordes of them. And allowing the powerful Islamist lobby to influence Irish foreign policy, such as calling Israel "racist and apartheid" and recognizing a fake Arabian settler-colonist entity called "State of Palestine" that is illegally occupying Judea and Samaria.[3]
      • Awesome. Can you get some sources other than Wikipedia, y'know? How many Jewish Lord Mayors of Dublin have there been? Why don't you run along and tell me then - Alison 03:24, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Infringement of athlete's page

Hi Alison would you mind blocking a user from accessing one of my clients page? User: 2001:18E8:3:10B1:5114:4D26:78BF:915F vandalized the page Emmanuel Adewole on 4 September. I have gone ahead and edited the page, but would like to prevent him or any other user from making changes to the page without consent. I know you have check-user status and am hoping for your help in dealing with this case. Thanks

Rev/Del question

Hello Alison. I hope that you are well. I came upon the edits by this person today and I am wondering if they meet the criteria for rev/del. While they are more adolescent nonsense then a specific attack I am thinking that they do bump up against WP:BLP. Thanks for your time and enjoy your weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 21:02, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi MarnetteD. Thanks for the note. You're absolutely right as those edits are WP:BLP violations and come under WP:RD2, for revision-deletion. I've gone ahead and rev/del'd them now. Thanks for letting me know, and thank you for keeping watch over BLPs! :) - Alison 21:14, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are most welcome. I always appreciate your checking on these and filling me in on what qualifies (and what doesn't) for r/d. Thanks again. MarnetteD|Talk 21:37, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MRKH Photo

Hi Alison - not sure the best way to get your attention. I'm writing about the MRKH page. The photo that is posted is not the best photo that "shows" the syndrome. In fact, if a newly diagnosed child types in "MRKH" into the website and this photo appears it can be rather scary (and offensive) to see especially to a vulnerable child. I would ask that you please remove the photo and replace it with another one that is more tactful for the internet. I would appreciate your support in removing the photo (on behalf of all the women and children with this syndrome). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucky978 (talkcontribs) 13:39, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I always cringe a bit when I see people insulting vandals/bad faith users in edit summaries. They strive for a reaction and you losing your cool is exactly what they want. Reverting and semi protecting talk? Yes. Insulting the bad faith editor with words like 'douchebaggery' or 'hypocrity'? No. It's not anything against you, just that I'd rather administrators be setting the example. Revert, blocking and ignoring them (WP:RBI) is what I advocate for. Tutelary (talk) 02:46, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Cringe away. Same guy has been doing this since 2007 and has never slowed down. I'm largely done with here these days, and RBI doesn't work on some folks. 8 years an admin at this stage and getting tired ... - Alison 02:52, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article "Doye Agama" - Now Speedily Deleted - Request for Copy

Hello Alison. I see you are listed as an editor willing to consider providing copies of deleted articles. Could you please provide me with copy of the deleted article "Doye Agama", so that I can work on it with a view to making it acceptable. I regret the article has been judged unsatisfactory, and deleted. Another possible Rev/Del

Hello Alison and a belated Happy New Year to you. I hope you are well!. This post and edit summary are an attack on one of our long term editors. I think they might be rev/del worthy. It is possible that another admin might get to them before you do but I thought I'd ask just in case. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 05:51, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Amazon Eve

I'm confused about your argument. You said that WP:BIRTHNAME doesn't say anything about including the birth name in the lead...except for where it does. In the "First mention" section, it says "In some cases, subjects have legally changed their names at some point after birth. In these cases the birth name should be given as well:", such as in this case. It then gives a specific set up example: "William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III, August 19, 1946) ..." Does that not look exactly like the edit I made to Amazon Eve's page?

As for MOS:IDENTITY, I don't see how this relates to my edit. I didn't change "actress" to "actor", and I'm not trying to imply that she isn't a woman in the slightest. I'm merely stating what her birth name was in the lead, as BIRTHNAME recommends.

I don't want to edit war with you, but I'm having serious trouble seeing where your arguments are coming from, so I wanted to talk to you about it and try to get a clearer explanation. Conversations through edit summaries isn't the most useful, after all :P Sock (tock talk) 13:03, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's pretty poor practice, for one. It's already in the infobox, so it's already on the page. Putting it in the lede, as you did is just undue weight. In this instance, your Bill Clinton example is a pretty poor analogy. And you've been doing this repeatedly for a long number of months now, always returning to re-add it. That's just ... odd - Alison 05:51, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was unaware that I'd done it frequently, I only recall doing it twice. I'm not trying to belittle Erika's gender or anything like that (seriously, she's awesome), I was just trying to unify how these articles are frequently presented. I don't see how the Clinton analogy is poor, but the same case goes for The Wachowskis, which discusses Lana (previously Larry) Wachowski. As you can see, I've stopped adding it, I just fail to see how I was causing any problems. Sorry if I've offended you or violated policy! Sock (tock talk) 17:41, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your administrator and bureaucrat status on the Manx Wikipedia

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on the wiki listed above. Since that wiki does not have its own rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights.

If you wish to resign your rights, you can reply here or request removal of your rights on Meta.

If there is no response at all after approximately one month, stewards will proceed to remove your administrator and/or bureaucrat rights. In ambiguous cases, stewards will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact the stewards. Invitation

Have you heard of the Kaffeeklatsch? It is a test area for women to hear and support each other. The idea came about as a result of a discussion at meta regarding my IdeaLab proposal (yet open) for WikiProject Women.

Now that the klatsch has survived an MfD and WMF legal has said that it does not violate the non discrimination policy,[4] I am looking for women editors who might like to join.

Although I have started a couple of discussions, they are not urgent. For now, the "Please introduce yourself" discussion is more important! I want to take it slow at first and build a small group before trying to address heavy topics or come up with big goals. For now, the klatsch is there as a sort of refuge. I hope you will consider joining, and invite other women editors, too, if you wish. Lightbreather (talk) 21:37, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BLP violation?

Hello, Alison,

There was a notice on Bruce Jenner's entry in this week's Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2015-02-11/Traffic report and User:Serendipodous/Top25 that he is transgender. I've left a note on Serendipodous's talk page to remove this since he maintains those pages but I haven't received a response. Should I just remove this myself? Thanks for your help. Liz Read! Talk! 16:38, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh - you're absolutely right. It's a serious BLP issue, it's absolutely unsourced and just basically, tabloid gossip. As you know WP:BLP doesn't just apply to article pages, so I've gone ahead and removed them and RevDel'd the entries. Thanks for letting me know! :) - Alison 17:35, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Alison. Serendipodous does such an awesome job maintaining these pages that I was reluctant to edit them myself. I was uncertain if it was a BLP violation and then I went to Talk:Bruce Jenner and, wow!, it is such a controversial topic, like Chelsea Manning. I appreciate you getting to this so quickly. Liz Read! Talk! 19:40, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Liz! Thanks for the followup :) I don't like to step on anyone's toes either, but this one was pretty egregious. I understand that Serendipodous meant well, and that this one fell through the cracks. The way with the Jenner case is that folks are saying his LGBT status is a kinda "big, open secret" at this stage, which it may well be. Unfortunately, all of this is sourced to one speculative magazine article, plus whispers and comments from others, along with people making pointed comments about his appearance. In short, we don't have a WP:RS for anything about his orientation or identity. And until we do, it should be kept out. Especially when it comes to LGBT issues, this can have a serious impact on a person's life, and sometimes, their safety. We need to be super-careful. The same happened with Tim Cook. Everyone knew he was gay (especially us 'insiders' :) ) but there was no reliable source to confirm that until Tim actually outed himself in a recent interview. Then the floodgates open and his article was update, which is the way it should be, really - Alison 19:55, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Alison, luckily, Bruce Jenner fell out of the Top 10 reported on the Signpost but he still appears on Wikipedia:Top 25 Report at #12 with an explanation that is a dig at WP:BLP. I don't want to be humorless but I think it's also an oblique way of saying that there is something scandalous about Jenner's life. What do you think? Liz Read! Kallmann syndrome

Hello, I think you did some editing on the Kallmann syndrome page today and reverted some apparent vandalism.

I watch the page carefully as I have provided a fair amount of content for the page and was a bit concerned when a couple of edits happened recently. Thank you for keeping an eye on the page. I hope we do not get a recurrence of that sort of vandalism.

Thank you. Neilsmith38 (talk) 21:53, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

NHSBSA Draft copy of article recently deleted

Hello, I'm trying to update the wiki page for the NHS Business Services Authority. At the moment it is wrong, incorrrect, out of date. I realise that all my changes have been deleted and reverted back to the factually incorrect version of the site. Please can I have a copy of the full amends I made yesterday that were deleted? Thanks

CheckUser request

Hi, Alison. I wonder whether you would be willing to do a checkuser for me. At User talk:Mr Rapano there is a request for an unblock of a proxy block on the IP address 197.85.132.8, which was blocked as an open proxy by ProcseeBot on 6 March 2014, a you can see at Special:Contributions/197.85.132.8. Searches on the internet confirm that the IP address was at that time in use as an open proxy server and a source of spam, but I am unable to find any evidence whatever that it is still doing either of those. Certainly, repeated attempts to connect to the proxy have all failed. In fact, it seems to me almost certain that it is no longer an o[pen proxy, and it should be unblocked. However, perhaps you could have a CheckUser look and see whether there is any evidence I can't see which would make unblocking unwise. • Hi @JamesBWatson:. I took a look behind the IP and everything looks okay. I'd say go ahead and unblock, or at least maybe drop it down to just a softblock. Thanks for following up with this editor :) - Alison 14:40, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New User Needs Help =

Hi. I don't know the processes very well. I had an assignment to keep up with wiki page for school and began. I first chose something non-controversial and it was asked that I try something with more depth. Thus, I edited Vaccine controversies. After almost making the mistake of an edit war, I went to the talk page.

I expected some back and forth, however one particular user AndyTheGrump appears overtly disruptive. He had content deleted from the commons despite the permissions being given, he deleted 12,000+comments that disagree with his point of view as 'archive', I think. Well, just look at the talk history and read my talk page. If he is correct, he is certainly not providing clear explanations nor being polite. Will you please advise?

Thank YouDcrsmama (talk) 12:31, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'd advise looking at the edits in question, which improperly removed posts by other contributors - the archiveng had been done by a bot. I have repeatedly pointed this out to Dcrsmama, who seems however to fail to comprehend why this is improper. As for the file uploaded to commons, it was speedy deleted as a copyright violation, since Dcrsmama had misleadingly stated that the image was public domain, - the supposed source for this statement said nothing of the sort. Dcrsmama is a WP:SPA clearly intent on pushing a fringe view regarding the vaccine controversy article, and who's response when policy has been explained has been to ignore such comment, and carry on regardless. Frankly, I can see no reason why Wikipedia would need such a contributor. AndyTheGrump (talk) 12:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I had just told AndyTheGrump about the bot edits. this is the first he mentions the bot. Otherwise, he speaks for himself. Commons will make the decision on the copyright. As he well knows, I have published now three times the link to where the creators give permission to use their work. Vaccine reform may be a less vocal group, but not a fringe group. Otherwise, he speaks for himself.Dcrsmama (talk) 13:25, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Commons has already deleted the image as a copyright violation. Nowhere on the page that Dcrsmama linked there did the words 'public domain' appear, and nothing on the page could be interpreted as a statement that they were releasing their own self-created content into the public domain. Though frankly this is a non-issue anyway, since a graph from a partisan source like healthsentinel.com is clearly unacceptable in a medical article per WP:RS.
Incidentally, I'm unsure why Dcrsmama chose this page to raise these issues - there doesn't seem to have been any prior interaction? AndyTheGrump (talk) 13:35, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request for undeletion: Speaker Knockerz

Hi Alison. I am requesting your attention over at WP:Requests for undeletion because of an article that was speedily deleted twice, uncontroversially. The account(s) used to create the article were subsequently blocked indefinitely. The arguably notable subject was then moved to a draft space a few days ago after a discussion, and I even added his label, Talibandz Entertainment. However, the rest of the content still has not been restored for submission as promised. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 71.82.114.12 (talk) 14:49, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation

I recently contacted arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org about a recent WP:Child protection matter (see here), and I've emailed you with details. Turns out that the WP:WMF will be handling all future WP:Child protection matters, and so I had to email legal-reports@wikimedia.org with details. The WP:Child protection policy will need updating "once all the new arrangements are finalised" with regard to the WP:WMF handling WP:Child protection and other matters. I'm not sure about the change, as it feels like WP:ArbCom (for example, you and AGK) acted quicker on these matters and have significantly more experience with them. Anyway, if you have the same email address you had when we used to exchange emails, you should have the aforementioned details. Flyer22 (talk) 23:06, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Issue with Robert / Rms125a@hotmail.com / "Quis separabit?"

Hi There Alison,

There's a discussion about user Rms125a@hotmail.com (Robert) aka (signature) "Quis separabit?" here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Bulk_Delete_Action_by_Robert_RMS125a_AT_yahoo.com_aka_Quis_separabit.3F

I was wondering if you cared to take a look and comment. I have no proof that Robert has practiced as he admitted, "deletionist tendencies", but perhaps you do. His comment on the thread seemed racist and bigoted as well, as he seemed to point a finger at a group of people (of which I happen not to be a member of) but it is nonetheless offensive and unacceptable.

Also, he did not respond to emails sent directly to him in order to address the issue(s).

Much appreciate your feedback or observations on the matter, as I believe that you have knowledge of and a history with this user.

I'm sure many other novice editors don't try to stand up to his aggressive and threatening manner. 66.65.111.148 (talk) 20:23, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question

If an editor has strong evidence of tag-team activity, would it be appropriate to ask you to check an IP that suddenly became involved to avoid 3RR? Atsme📞📧 16:36, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help, please?

There is an ongoing ANI Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Vandal-like_disruption.2C_aspersions_and_PAs_at_WP:AVDUCK which I filed because of the disruptive behavior of 3 editors, one of whom is User:I9Q79oL78KiL0QTFHgyc/Previous_Account_Names who has a history of sock activity and disruptive editing. I certainly don't want to make false allegations against any editor but his disruptive behavior at WP:AVDUCK leads me to believe he's back at it, especially considering the IP keeps restoring the gibberish he added to an image caption at the essay now subject of the ANI. I believe the IP may be a sock: [6] [7]. At the very least the timing is suspect. I don't want to get in trouble for falsely accusing anyone so I am seeking your advice as to the proper steps I should take. Thank you in advance. Atsme📞📧 18:32, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
