Revision as of 02:40, 3 February 2020
This is the page to make requests for the splitting of an article into two or more separate articles.
This process is usually undertaken to keep articles from becoming too large (and consequently slow to load on some browsers); but may also occur when an element of an existing article gains substantial notoriety in its own right. In such a case, requests for splitting-off said content from an existing article into a newer, more focused article, should be directed here.
Please make your requests for article splitting below, after familiarizing yourself with the splitting process. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals, however, if the split is contested or potentially controversial, it may be best to run the discussion through Requests for Comment or Articles for Creation instead.
Note
Splits of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Splits of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.
MERGING of ARTICLES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers.
Split requests
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed, as there may be a backlog, and splits often require considerably more discussion than a merge request, for instance. To request a split, list the article below as well as requested target article title(s). Include a short descriptive reason why you think a split is in order. Please sign your request(s). Thank you.
New requests
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed on its own. After a split is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.
Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests will not be honored.
To request your split, copy the following, paste it at the bottom of this section, and fill in (replace) the article titles specific to your request:
*Split Original article into Split article 1 and Split article 2. See discussion at Talk:Original article#Proposed split. ~~~~
Awaiting consensus
After the involved article is tagged for the split discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age, disagreement, or lack of consensus.
- Split Community into Community (settlement) and Community (sociology): to distinguish between the only tenuously related 1) original human geography sense of the term, based on physical living environment; and 2) the subcultural derived meaning of intentional community, voluntary association, and self-selecting participation. What we have right now is basically a messy WP:COATRACK situation. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Article is tagged and awaiting split discussion. >>>Discussion Here<<<. Also notified WT:SPORTS. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

- Split Pipeline transport into Pipeline transport, Oil pipeline and Gas pipeline. The oil and gas pipeline may end up in one article or in their own articles. The current article is heavily based on oil and gas pipeline, while other kinds of pipelines have a much lower weight. See discussion at Talk:Pipeline transport. Discussion complete
After discussion concludes, completed requests should be moved below (to the top of this list). Please mark as Done, Not done, or Working when consensus has been reached.
- Split Champ Clark Bridge into Champ Clark Bridge (2019) and Champ Clark Bridge (1928). A well-intentioned new editor changed the scope of Champ Clark Bridge to be about the new bridge. Please archive Champ Clark Bridge (1928) to a subpage, maybe Talk:Champ Clark Bridge/Champ Clark Bridge (1928). Then split here, with the aformentioned revision being the starting point of Champ Clark Bridge (2019). Then please move the Champ Clark Bridge to Champ Clark Bridge (1928). Champ Clark Bridge should be a dab page until consensus emerges on the primary topic. Mark Schierbecker (talk) 07:43, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Since this split was already executed through the cut-and-paste move at Special:Diff/910423731, I've moved Champ Clark Bridge to Champ Clark Bridge (2019), then recreated Champ Clark Bridge as a disambiguation page between Champ Clark Bridge (1928) and Champ Clark Bridge (2019). All links to Champ Clark Bridge from the article namespace have been disambiguated. I've also requested a history merge of all edits from Special:Diff/37397272 to Special:Diff/903652095 (inclusive) into Champ Clark Bridge (1928), and an administrator will attend to the request. I hope this resolves the problem. Please let me know if there are any outstanding issues. — Newslinger talk 11:08, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Done. The history merge has been completed by Anthony Appleyard, and the split is finished. — Newslinger talk 17:29, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

- Split Frankfurt_School#Cultural_Marxism_conspiracy_theory into Cultural Marxism (Culture Wars). See discussion here. Trialpears (talk) 08:25, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Article is tagged and awaiting discussion. Trialpears (talk) 08:25, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Not done. Talk:Frankfurt School § RfC: Cultural Marxism conspiracy theory section - possible split was closed with no consensus to split the article. — Newslinger talk 18:11, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Split Mena (name) into Mena (given name) and Mena (surname): All the references and the prose text is just about the surname. The given name is just a list of names without information concerning the given name. This is a surname article with some given names tacked on, so the given names should be removed to its own list. -- 67.70.33.184 (talk) 21:24, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
- Done. Both Mena (given name) and Mena (surname) now exist, and Mena (name) redirects to the Mena#People disambiguation page section. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:29, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
