KBTF-CD, virtual and UHF digital channel 31, is a low-powered, Class A UniMás owned-and-operated television station licensed to Bakersfield, California, United States. Owned by the Univision Local Media subsidiary of Univision Communications, it is a sister station to Class A Univision owned-and-operated station KABE-CD (channel 39), and Justice Network affiliate KUVI-DT (channel 45). The three stations share studios on Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield; KBTF-CD's transmitter is located atop Breckenridge Mountain.
In addition to its own digital signal, KBTF-CD is simulcast in high definition on the third digital subchannel of KUVI (UHF channel 45.3 or virtual channel 31.4 via PSIP) from a transmitter atop Mount Adelaide.
Univision acquired the channel 39 license during 1995. Univision later moved the frequency to channel 31 in 1998 and it was renamed “KABE-LP Univision 31.” It served as a repeated for KSUV-LP and was co-branded as “Univision KSUV 39 & KABE 31.” Univision’s original station in Bakersfield, KSUV-LP (channel 39, now KABE-CA) became a charter station of TeleFutura when it was launched in 2002 and was renamed “KBTF-LP TeleFutura 39.” Univision remained on channel 31 branded as “KABE Univision 31.” In 2004 the station swapped callsigns with KBTF-LP and became the new KABE-LP while TeleFutura moved to channel 31. During 2014 the station obtained Class A status.
KTFB initially broadcast in analog on channel 4, until September 1, 2015, when the FCC mandated the end of class A analog broadcasting. It is simulcast in digital on a subchannel of KUVI-DT RF channel 45 and maps to virtual channel 31-3. On February 3, 2014 KBTF added a subchannel, broadcasting Get TV on virtual channel 31-2. Escape is seen on 31.3. The station is not available on DirecTV in Bakersfield alongside KABE-CA for unknown reasons but the national feeds for Univision and UniMas is available on DirecTV.
The station's digital signal is multiplexed:
