Consensus discussion on character to include on List of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters

Since everyone else seems to be passing the buck here about finding the discussion, as per the argument on the above page's talk page, there is (and I know it existed at one time at least) a discussion, somewhere, about who to include and exclude from this page. User Rjanag points us to you as knowing the location of the discussion, so do you know where it is? Derekloffin (talk) 01:25, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I fixed the licensing of the file - you can't release it under the cc-0 license because the source file is licensed under more restrictive licenses that require that they (or one of them) be used for every derivative work (see the "share-alike" provision of the Creative Commons license). Please always check whether you have selected the correct license in the future and add categories. Best wishes Hekerui (talk) 11:59, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, quite a bit to fix there. Hekerui (talk) 18:50, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

A few things

I can see your point with the minor characters on List of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters. But I don't think all the minor recurring characters should be decluded, if they are exactly that, recurring. I will trust your judgement on who stays or goes. ;)
Also like I said Ozai can go wherever you want it.
And also since you are involved with the image of that article along with the Appa article. You might want to join this debate. It's up to you. Happy editing. − Jhenderson 777 16:54, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Campus Ambassador needed

Hi! My name is Annie Lin - I'm the Campus Team Coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm contacting you because you're listed as a resident of San Francisco, and we're currently looking for a friendly Wikipedian to teach students in a University of San Francisco class how to use/edit Wikipedia. This is a role titled the "Wikipedia Campus Ambassador," and you'll basically be doing in-class presentations about Wikipedia, running Wikipedia labs/workshops, and in general providing face-to-face Wikipedia help for the professor and the students in the class. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours a week (with variations throughout the semester), and for this particular University of San Francisco class, most of the workload will be between March and May.

Please let me know if you're interested!

Thanks. Annie Lin (Campus Team Coordinator, Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 19:16, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Having had a think about this, I would not argue if you put back Sintel movie 720x306.ogv. The main point was that YouTube and Vimeo are probably the best places to watch the whole film online. It also saves on the server bandwidth here at Wikipedia to do this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:12, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Pines of Rome

I'd suggest combining these into one OGG file, and boosting the volume a bit. Of course, these are affected by the URAA, and the court case on whether some 95-year copyright can be given to out-of-copyright works isn't until next year. Fun! This might be best to put to one side for the moment, since Commons are complete random frickin' idiots when it comes to these sort of things, and, indeed, their policy is explicitly stated to be "everyone will act like idiots on the matter". Maybe you should see about a local upload.

As for Fireworks, the background cheering could not be edited out, or would be difficult. I'd say it's fine. Try it! The worst that might be said is that it's not important enough to the article. Adam Cuerden (talk) 06:06, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Please pick different colors for California proposition maps

I hope you're the right person to talk to about this... I'd like to suggest that you choose different colors, or at least different shades of colors, for California ballot proposition maps (for example, File:CA2008Prop8.svg). I'm not red-green color-blind, but it's still hard for me to distinguish between the colors being used unless I look closely. This is exacerbated by the small size of Central Valley and Bay Area counties (San Francisco especially). — Athelwulf [T]/[C] 04:03, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Seeking consensus on when to edit File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg following new legislation/court-rulings

Hello, I have noticed you made edits on File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg and/or File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg/Archive 5, so I am contacting you to take part in a newly-formed discussion at File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg as for whether we should update the map directly when a new legislation or court-order hits the books or if we should wait until said action takes effect. Historically, we have been updating the map when the new legislation is signed (or veto overrode or won at the ballot box, etc.), and thus it can be inferred that the consensus is to update as soon as one of those occurs. A discussion has emerged in regards to whether we should begin updating from the effective date instead of from the date of signing/etc. If you have an opinion over this matter please post it at File_talk:Samesex_marriage_in_USA.svg#When_to_update_map.3F_Effective_date_or_signing.2Fruling_date

As to your changes to File:Leading_presidential_candidate_2012_by_state_Obama_Romney.svg: The point of the striping is not to indicate who has/hasn't a polling lead in the state. It is to indicate when the most recent poll indicates a statistical tie between the candidates. All the polls in the states you changed show a statistical tie between Obama and Romney. I've reverted your edits accordingly. --Nick2253 (talk) 04:39, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

The statistical tie is indicated by the language "shared lead," and is consistent with maps in other polling articles. In order to avoid future confusion, I'll reword that to "Statistical tie." In the SC example, SC is shaded because Romney and Obama are within two margins of error of each other. The margin of error applies to both percentages (not just one, or the margin between their polling numbers), the the margin between Obama/Romney could be as great as 12.8% (6% + 2 x 3.4%) or as small as -.8% (6% - 2 x 3.4%). Since that margin captures 0%, they are in a statistical dead heat. --Nick2253 (talk) 05:38, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

A few weeks ago I tried to put a bunch of colors in my username title... apparently they restricted {{DISPLAYTITLE}} to very minor revisions. Presumably it was due to abuse, but someone really should tweak the filter - I can't imagine how someone could vandalize a page simply by changing the capitalization of a letter in the displayed title. — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 05:12, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

DYK for How I Met Your Mother (season 9)

The DYK project (nominate) 08:04, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

How I Met Your Mother

First off The actress that plays Patrice HAS been in season 9, she was in season 9 episode 4, and that is why she is in the table. It is stated that "Dates are not definite until the event actually takes place."

There is no "vendetta" against your personal edits, I just feel that there is absolutely no reason to include information into an article before it happens. Although you claim that this is a practice that How I met your mother has followed for some time it is not the practice that is followed anywhere else on wiki. For example in the Doctor Who article they did not add anything relating to David Tennant being in the 50th anniversary episode on his page other than to state that he has been cast, until the episode was aired.

I don't see why you are insisting on adding the info into the table before the episodes air. You might feel that I am being unreasonable but I feel the same about your edits, there have been 2 people that do not agree with your edits (myself and IP:67.170.169.30) yet you continue to insist that you are right which is editing against consensus and looks very much like WP:OWN. The best thing to do is take it to the talk page to try for a consensus, or just add the info to the individual characters articles and wait until the episodes air to add to the table. Thank you Kyyp Durron (talk) 13:12, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

    • You want a logical rational? How about because it is against consensus. As I said in my last reply, both myself and IP:67.170.169.30 are against adding it to the table until the episodes in question are aired so the best thing for you to do is take it to the talk page of the article and see if you can get a consensus. "Because that's the way we have always done it " is not a reason that is accepted on wikipedia.
    • And I quote " While common existing practice is important for determining policy, it does not equate to consensus, and thus cannot be the sole reason for creating policy or a guideline. Current practice might be practiced by *many* people, but need not be practiced by *most* or *all* people. Lastly common practice is difficult if not impossible to gauge, because of selection bias, and thus cannot and should not be used to determine consensus." Idi Amin: Your abuse of pending changes procedure to avoid consensus

Are you aware of WP:BRD? The obligation to seek consensus for changing an article is on the person seeking the change, not on the person reverting the change. You are shockingly misusing the pending changes procedure to allow a change you personally agree with, despite the long-term consensus in both this article and concerning the Infobox officeholder template. Very disappointing. 2605:6000:EF52:B200:189A:8D19:422F:5221 (talk) 03:38, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

If you would have taken 15 seconds to ascertain the facts, you would have seen that I reverted deletion of the honorific title by a single purpose editor. In plain English, I restored the long existing status quo based on a long existing consensus You plainly misused and abused the pending changes process and should revert your error. 2605:6000:EF52:B200:189A:8D19:422F:5221 (talk) 04:19, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Disney Channel Games

The article Disney Channel Games has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is absolutely not notable under WP:TVSHOW (i.e. as it is "special" one-time programming, not an "ongoing series"). Also, pure WP:GNG fail - no mentions in Variety, THR or EW.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --IJBall (contribstalk) 05:28, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

I've posted a reply on my talkpage as requested. I created this page back in 2006 and have not even glanced at it since. After receiving this notice, I went back to look and based on what I see, the article has been broken up into three constituent articles for each year the show aired. Instead of deleting the "hub" article, why not request to merge the constituent year articles into one? Best, haha169 (talk) 05:41, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Oxford College of Emory University

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Oxford College of Emory University has been completed.

I noticed that not all of the articles URLs have been archived. Likely some of the sources do not allow archiving and that may explain it. You will likely want to check. The Faculty, Admissions, and Residence life sections need to be updated; some of the stats are several years old and others may be outdated.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Regarding Golden Sun grammar checking

Hello Haha169,

Just wanted to tell you that the grammar analysation's been done for Golden Sun (series), Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.

The main thing I wanted to say, though, that I'm apologetic that there were errors on Golden Sun (series) made by myself. I installed a grammar checking device recently, and it really doesn't like me editing on Wikipedia, and thus has been playing up while I'm editing. My work is **usually** without error.

Manfred (talk) 11:42, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

@Manfred von Karma: Thank you for your help! No worries about the mistakes, you still caught some errors that should've been taken care of already. I restored an Oxford comma and consistency: primarily, the double "L" in "installment" and other words is American English spelling - and if you prefer British English that's fine, but you'd have to change every spelling inconsistency because the article has to be consistently written in a certain way. --haha169 (talk) 04:05, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, also, there was some in-lore caps errors in there you had to revert. My bad. As I said before, I haven't played the Golden Sun games so I haven't the slightest clue.
@Manfred von Karma: Regarding the caps, I don't know if they're supposed to be capitalized or not. I just placed an emphasis on consistency. For example - psynergy- you had lower cased some but not all, so I simply made them all capitalized. Either way it should work, but it should be consistent throughout the article. Once again, don't worry about your mistakes. I just needed someone fresh too look at the article, and you caught several errors, which is always helpful!--haha169 (talk) 06:35, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
