Allan Bennett Page
[edit]Good Day, Asartea suggested I talk to you, I was just hoping if you could temporarily unblock the recent history to the Charles Henry Allan Bennett page. I was unaware that the quoting of paragraphs was against fair use, if you look though a lot of work went into it, and there are many salvageable parts. Also the one I was quoting was from the 1950s so I didn't think it a problem. The page; http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/honourfathers.pdf I have not see before, that that may reference the 1950s Book edited by Christmas Humphreys also, so not sure what that was about. Anyway I am happy to rework the content and have since found the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria so shall review it before posting again.
I did spend some hours carefully quoting things, so would really appreciate just to get a copy of it again (as would be a hassle to go back again to those sources), then can see how to make it comply with the wikipedia standards. If you have any thoughts or suggestions also I am happy to hear.
Thanks for your time, I hope you can help, have a great day. :-) 203.59.32.61 (talk) 15:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I have been having a bit of a look at the various pages Wikipedia:Copyright problems it says "Listings typically remain for at least five days before review and closure". Also looking at Wikipedia:Non-free content it is very dense, it says under the text section "Copyrighted text that is used verbatim must be attributed with quotation marks or other standard notation, such as block quotes.". I guess some of the last edits that were made were to much text, as mentioned though I am happy to rework it, and open to suggestions if I could be given access to the most recent edit temporary to copy the notes that were made. Thanks :-) 203.59.32.61 (talk) 15:57, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I have contacted The Buddhist Society to request copyright permission for the selected paragraphs from A Buddhist Students` Manual by Christmas Humphreys (Editor) via there proper request. I am happy to remove or do the same for any other disputed items. 203.59.32.61 (talk) 16:23, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- The problem isn't formatting or attribution. It's that vast swaths of the article were constructed from blockquotes, which is way past what's acceptable for "quoting". The majority of any Wikipedia article should be written by Wikipedia editors working from sources, not by stitching blockquotes together. Any time we quote from a source, it should be as minimal as possible to comply with copyright, and should be immediately germane to the rest of the editor-written content. Barbara Gordon#Critical and editorial commentary is a good example of large quotes used selectively. There are two blockquotes that illustrate the perspectives described by the sections they are attached to. They do not form the body of those sections.
- You should probably also understand that just because something feels "old" doesn't mean it's no longer copyrighted. Copyright is quite lengthy in the United States; the onus is on you to prove that something has entered the public domain before treating it as such. Commons has a detailed guide here: Copyright rules by territory/United States; the table on the top right sums up most of it.
- I'm happy to email you a copy of the content (restoring it would be a copyright issue, so I will not do that), but I need you to tell me you understand the distinction between using a quote to illustrate a point (fine), and using quotes to build the substance of the article (not fine), before I do so. Otherwise I suspect we'll be back at square one very quickly. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:40, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Good Day, Thanks for the example, I shall review, yes I understand, I shall write the content in line with the guidelines, also seek the permission of the copyright owners if more use is sought. Basically I was planing to rework, also review the links I had put in and make sure they were suitable. I shall try to seek suggestions/permission before posting anything beyond the example stated. I was only working on this page as it is a poor representation of the man. And as I have been mainly doing self study these last few years, fair use is different to what it is in the public domain, so it was just an honest mistake. Please note would be good to get a copy of the whole article, as I had placed some links in the lower section also. I have created a one time link so you can access my email: https://onetimesecret.com/secret/o4kwh0859yws1mbnob3oa0r225o70k3 the passphrase is PremeditatedChaos. With Kindness and Thanks; also if you have any other suggestions, I am open ears; as clearly I messed this one up! Thanks for being so helpful. Peace.
I also found the Wikipedia:Quotations page and the Template:Blockquote which seem like more relevant information along with the sample you have given, so I can keep this inline with the wikipedia standards. "Overuse happens when: a quotation is used without pertinence: it is presented visually on the page but its relevance is not explained anywhere; quotations are used to explain a point that can be paraphrased; the quotations dominate the article or section." Sure. 203.59.32.61 (talk) 04:03, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry for the delay, I was editing at a computer where I didn't have access to my personal email. I believe you've got a reasonable handle on the quoting thing, so I've sent it through now. Feel free to drop me a line here if you have any concerns or questions. Happy editing! ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:09, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

I posted at the AFD that it had been posted on WP:ARS. I did not comment because I spent the morningGop on researching and wanted to do rewrite before commening. If I had said that they did not do WP:BEFORE, one of them would have said I was casting "aspersions", as he recently did here at another AFD. so I just wanted to fix the article and say, "look". when I went back it was deleted. This can easily be corrected. But we can do it the hard way. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 18:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Nick (talk) 19:20, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- It is the editorial 'We.' And inevitably it will involve all those who got this article deleted – "we" are all parties to this controversy. Otherwise, I don't know what you are talking about. My account is not shared. I forgot to sign, and have now corrected it. But if you want to go down that road, feel free.
- I am waiting for the userfied copy before I go to DRV. I want to have it all straight with my ducks lined up.
- My preference was to simply give everyone a do-over, but I have no drag here, and y'all will do what you want.
- I thought that User:Premeditated Chaos had said "no", but if I am mistaken, then we should all wait for the type to cool off and see if that is her final answer. I would like the Userfied copy of the article, ASARP. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 19:35, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Holy fuck, Premeditated Chaos hasn't even had the time to respond once because there's been over twenty edits to this discussion since it started, so if everyone could chill out for ten minutes maybe I could do so without having to rewrite my comments to account for the latest responses. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:39, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- Great! So I took the time to look at the sources before responding, and they're pretty classically routine/run of the mill hagiographic coverage of a heroic death ("family mourns death" "guy gets nominated for medal" "another guy in his unit mourns his death" "family is happy he will be getting a medal" etc). No contest that the guy deserves to be lauded for his actions, but he clearly wasn't notable before his death, and I frankly don't see that human-interest coverage gets him over the notability hump when you take WP:NOTMEMORIAL and WP:NOTNEWS into account. (Also, I'm not trying to be a cow, but including this article as a "result" is fairly shoddy research; it's a tabloid article about movie piracy affecting a different guy entirely.) In my personal opinion, I don't see the coverage as provided in the email to be a reason to overturn the AfD. You were editing the article prior to the AfD closure, so you had ample time to make some kind of comment at the AfD but chose for some reason not to do so. So I'm not going to overturn it on grounds of either coverage or your failure to comment.
- I have zero objection to you taking this to DRV if you want, although fair warning, I will probably comment (I usually don't bother). You don't actually need a userfied copy of the article in order to open a DRV, so I don't intend to do that either at this time. Please don't argue with me about it. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:53, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

- Yeah, no, those links are simply lists of articles by Allison provided by places she has written for. They aren't independent indications of notability. You need coverage about Allison from an independent source to make a case for notability. Also, I have to ask, since this is a brand-new account with zero other edits and yet you seem to know your way around wiki-jargon reasonably well - do you have a previous account? What's your connection to Allison? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:24, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Request for undeletion: Torriano Primary School
[edit]Hello PC,
Many people were using this page for information about the school, and I wasn't aware of it being deleted until I needed to go there myself to add some information.
I understand the issue is that the School is not notable. Here's an article from The Spectator last month, headline "A Snapshot of Four Notable Schools", mentioning reasons for the school's notability.
Many famous people have attended the school such as Daniel Kaluuya. It's won numerous awards and Ofsted had given it 3 Outstanding ratings. It is also notable for its long tradition of pupil-led democratic change.
I hope you can undelete the page as I want to link some articles to it.

- ItsJustdancefan, assuming you mean Unicable (Mexican network), it was deleted in 2017 because it went through our proposed deletion process. - Hi Chris, that link was added by a drive-by IP editor with no documentation and if the article had more viewers it probably would have been removed by now. I wouldn't generally recommend writing about yourself (see WP:AUTOBIO for the common pitfalls). non Jewish emigrants to Poland
[edit]Your comment on this edit that "you can emigrate to israel without being jewish", seems reasonable, which means that the category tree is probably wrong. Currently we have this:
Which link should be removed? Mitch Ames (talk) 00:19, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
- None, I should think. The way I see it, parent categories help to categorize the child category, not the contents of each child category. "Polish emigrants to Israel" is a logical subcategory of "Polish-Jewish culture in Israel", but it doesn't necessarily mean that every article categorized in the child must also belong in the parent. Admittedly, I don't live in categoryland, so I may well be wrong, but from a common sense perspective I don't think so. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 00:44, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much for helping me start expanding an article. I probably wouldn't have been able to do it without your help. Semi-protection again
[edit]Greetings PMC!
Article Georgians gets disrupted again by IPs. Would it be possible to semi protect it indefinitely? There was 0 disruption or vandalism during 1 month when it was protected but now when it's off bad actors are back to "work". Appreciate your help. Regards, An emperor /// Ave 12:26, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Mmm, at this point there's only been a couple of edits from one IP across a couple of days, and they haven't made an edit since Jeppiz reverted them six hours ago. I don't think that's sufficient to resume semi-protection, especially indefinitely. Let me know if there's any further disruption from other IPs or new accounts though. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 15:14, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

George Adams
[edit]As requested in Discord, here is a note on your talk page, regarding George Adams (instrument maker, elder) and George Adams (1750-1795):
- The father was an instrument maker and a science writer.
- The son was an optician, but apparently also a writer and "mathematical instrument maker to King George III", succeeding his father
- George Adams (optician, younger) redirects to the son's page (and that's where most of the links to the page target, including on the dabpage George Adams)
- There is another redirect to the son's page, George Adams, Jr.
- George Adams (optician) redirects to the father's page, which seems particularly problematic (there's nothing on the page, at least, saying that he was an optician). There are also a lot of links to that, probably need to make sure they're to the right person
- also George Adams (optician, elder) and George Adams (optician elder) which are just weird
- the son's page has a "Works" section, partially composed of {{Cite book}} templates (the links of which aren't even loading for me right now)
Thanks, eviolite (talk) 07:00, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- What a mess. The article for the younger guy says he's an optician, but only talks about his instrument work and writing, so I'm not sure optician would be the best disambig for him anyway. I did some hunting around and per WP:NCPDAB, if two people have the same name and general profession, they ought to be disambiguated by year of birth or death, depending. Since we don't know the older's exact date of birth (because of course we don't - that would make things simple), I think the best title format might be George Adams (scientist, died 1773) and George Adams (scientist, died 1795). There are no other (scientist) disambigs listed at George Adams, so they wouldn't conflict with any other names. And then the redirects can be, er, redirected accordingly. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 15:56, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- As a note to self in case this comes up at a later date, I don't see any indication that they are reliably or consistently referred to as "sr/jr" "the elder/the younger" so that's not strictly suitable for article titling. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 16:48, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Guidance for Company Wikipedia Page Creation
[edit]Hello,
Hope you are doing well. I represent Bookmyshow, India's leading Movie Ticket Platform. Here's the link for the same for your reference. Link: https://in.bookmyshow.com/explore/home.
Since this was a start-up and earlier the folks trying to create the pages earlier somehow missed to follow the community guidelines. I would like to apologize for breaching the rules the but I would like to set things right, therefore I am seeking a reversal and a kind gesture allowing me to ensure that a page of the brand is created following all community guidelines & people around the world know the evolution of the Start-up Bookmyshow. In India & in Asia this brand is now playing a key role in letting people know about entertainment opportunities in various countries and allowing people to book tickets on their mobile phones.
We are trying to create a Company page on Wikipedia for BookMyShow, India's leading Movie Ticket Platform and a page for founders. While setting-up the process and start creating from Article Wizard which reflects Permission Error to create a draft for BookMyShow. Details mentioned on the page Creation of this page (Draft:BookMyShow) is currently restricted to administrators because the page title matches an entry on the local or global blacklists.
We did try to connect via E-mail to Wikipedia Functionaries. But could not figure the next steps for this.
Please help or guide me with the process to ensure that I can create a page with the correct bibliography & links in 2021. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shruti12111998 (talk • contribs) 14:37, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Shruti12111998, sorry for the late response. I have un-protected the draft page so you can work on it there now. The Functionaries list has no jurisdiction over content or page-creation processes, so please do not email them for things like this in the future - more than likely you will just be referred to on-wiki processes. Since you are a paid editor, please familiarize yourself with our guidelines for such editors - in specific, you are required to declare on your user page that you are a paid editor representing BookMyShow. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 00:55, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Premeditated Chaos, Thanks for sharing your response. Noted to your point and I will surely go through the Wikipedia guidelines. Meanwhile please share you can you share me a link/reference to un-protected draft page that would help me to take the process ahead. Also please let me know if there is any other source to connect for discussion. example: via email or portal/other Wikipedia platform. --Shruti12111998 (talk) 06:35, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's best to have any discussions on-wiki. You should follow the steps at the article creation wizard to get started. If you need further assistance, you could ask at the teahouse for help; it's set up to assist new/inexperienced users. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 14:17, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

- I would, but I'm indeffed. Knowing Commons, they might start a DR if they don't know about the interview with Ayna TV. - Ah, I didn't realize. I've placed a note on the talk page there. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 02:56, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! Small nitpick, when inserting Wikipedia links on other projects, the prefix "w:" needs to be added for the link to keep working, but this is no biggie in this case as anyone interested will likely figure out the correct link. The important part is that there now is an easy way to find the associated FfD when looking at the Commons file. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 17:53, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Apologies for this random message, but I just wanted to thank you for all the work you have put into the Inuit clothing. I always love learning more about different cultures, and I am very happy to see a clothing-related article in the FAC space for a change. Hello Premeditated Chaos. You reverted my edit of Inuit clothing, which I gave the edit summary "only one alt text per image; omit accessdate for external links that are not references". I believe my edit was correct. WP:ELCITE says, "Most external links should present details different from citations. For instance, a concise description of the contents and a clear indication of its source is more important than the actual title of the page, and access dates are not appropriate in the external links section." Your edit summary said "those are all references". I don't think so. They are not connected to the body of the article with Moreover, an access date is not "date when url was last verified to open a page with the given title and other given cite parameters". Template:Cite web/doc#URL defines access date as "full date when the content pointed to by url was last verified to support the text in the article". So it doesn't make sense to associate an access date next with an external link that isn't connected to any specific claim in the article. That raises the objection that a reference that is used more than once in an article ought to have a separate access date for each use. I have made this point myself. Nevertheless, this is what Wikipedia calls for. Also, my edit fixed a file link with two alt texts, leaving the caption last. After you reverted me, you edited the article again and removed one of the alt texts, but you didn't leave the caption last, as it is supposed to be. I believe my edit was correct and your reversion was incorrect. —Anomalocaris (talk) 05:19, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
<ref>
tags and they are not associated with anything in the article. They are just helpful "for more information" links.
- (talk page stalker) Those are, in fact, references. The article uses the
bad, confusing, as we can see here{{sfn}} referencing style, where only the surname of the reference's primary author is given in <ref> tags, and the full reference is given in a 'bibliography' section. This is quite common for articles that rely heavily on book references. Vaticidalprophet 05:27, 22 June 2021 (UTC)- @Vaticidalprophet: c'mon, sfn is great. It wouldn't be confusing if more widespread. Admittedly, it is preferable for books over websites. Elli (talk | contribs) 05:28, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- What Vati said, basically,
except for his baseless insults towards the far superior sfn method which I will indef him for shortly. The bibliography isn't an external links section - it's a bibliography, which is a component of the article's references, and therefore should have the access date so the reader can see when the whole source was last confirmed as live. The order of alt text/caption doesn't matter as far as I'm aware, and if it does, it doesn't make sense that you'd only "fix" that one image, because the rest of the alt texts are also out of your desired order. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 05:48, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

When I checked the bot's behavioral configuration settings, I found that you had altered them to have the bot preemptively add archive URLs to all links, use the newest snapshot archives instead of the closest recorded access time, and to instead use the dead link parameter in a cite template when marking the URL as dead in a Cite web template rather than tag it with {{dead link}}
. I'm assuming this was probably an accident, but I would like to hear from you about why you made these changes.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:29, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, my god. I thought that was a personal settings configuration like Twinkle has. I didn't realize I was changing universal settings for the bot. I'm so sorry. Did it make much of a mess? I can clean it up if you point me at it. (Once I crawl out of this hole of embarrassment). ♠PMC♠ (talk) 20:40, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
- Premeditated Chaos, I figured that's what happened here. I need to add a warning banner there so other sysops don't repeat the same mistake. Fortunately, it only made 139 edits in that time identified here. I think I can run a rollback script on it to mass undo them all. page history requests
[edit]Hi, I'm 2005-Fan, a temporary administrator on Wikibooks who has been working to restore video game guides (and add some new ones) per their new policy allowing coverage of game guides since March 2021. A part of it involves me reusing deleted Wikipedia gaming articles so that they have a better home & can be expanded from there. Just earlier, I made a A Traveler's Guide to the World of Pokémon wikibook (with another administrator's permission). To start off with, i was wondering if you could undelete the page history for Pewter City on Wikipedia (the latest revision is already a redirect, so it wouldn't make much of a difference). 2005-Fan (talk) 14:44, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- 2005-Fan, sorry for the delay, I see that another admin has already taken care of it. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:07, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Premeditated Chaos: That's alright. Do you want to retrieve the page histories for Octorok, Lizalfos, Peahat, Stalfos, Poe (The Legend of Zelda), Wizzrobe, Darknut, and Armos so that I can transwiki the history to the Zelda franchise strategy guide wikibook? Thank you 2005-Fan (talk) 23:15, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- All done. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:45, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Premeditated Chaos: Thank you, can you also do Iron Knuckle and Gohma (the latter has no particular section on Universe of Zelda, so might have to be redirected to Draft section temporarily)? i forgot to add them (and Octorok hasn't been restored yet) 2005-Fan (talk) 23:59, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- All done. I restored Gohma, added a snippet to the Zelda page, and turned it into a redirect. (Btw, you don't need to ping people on their own talk page - they already get a notification for the message). ♠PMC♠ (talk) 00:19, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

- Keese done normally, Moblin I did a history split so everything LoZ related is at Moblin (The Legend of Zelda) now. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 00:40, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds great. Do you think this helps Wikipedia out in the long run? 2005-Fan (talk) 00:43, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- To be honest, not really, since it's strategy-guide stuff on wikibooks, but it's not for me to say how someone else spends their time. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 00:54, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

DYK for History of Inuit clothing
[edit]On 6 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article History of Inuit clothing, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that tools for sewing and skin preparation found at archaeological sites indicate that the history of Inuit clothing in the Arctic regions of North America and Greenland extends back as early as 2500 BCE? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/History of Inuit clothing. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, History of Inuit clothing), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Restoration of an article
[edit]Hello @Premeditated Chaos:, I had created an article about Pranshu Chatur Lal. That article has been deleted through afd process and you had closed the discussion by deleting the article. At that time I didn't know what to write and how to counter in the discussion. Now I am pretty much aware about rules so I am requesting to restore the article as I am here giving some valid reasons for restoring the article.
- - The Hindu coverage is about his performance.
- - The Hindu This article is about Pranshu's opinion on Telangana Social Welfare School of Fine Arts.
- - Times Of India here in the article it's written about Pranshu's performance.
- - The Hindu this article is about Pranshu's performance and about the instrument he plays.
- - The Indian Express here you can see TIE mentioned him as The Prince Of Tabla and about those prestigious awards which he received.
- - The Statesman about his performance in a live concert.
- - Indian Talent Management from here I got his dob and some of his personal information.
So I am requesting you to please read those article and restore the subject. Thanks and regards. Batamore (talk) 13:18, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- Here I got another coverage from The Hindu (see here [1]). Here is in-depth information about Pranshu. So I think have provided enough reliable source and information about the subject for it's restoration. Batamore (talk) 13:31, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- 1 is about a concert for his grandfather and trivially mentions him, 2 quotes him but isn't about him, 3 has the same issue as 1, 4 is about someone else's concert that he happened to be an accompaniment for, 5 is a trivial mention ("prince of tabla" or not it doesn't go into any depth about him), 6 is probably the best so far as it actually contains a paragraph focusing on him, 7 is significant coverage but I'm dubious about the reliabilty as it's an online-only magazine, and that last one is basically a scant paragraph about his performance. On the whole it's not enough to meet WP:NMUSIC or WP:GNG in my opinion. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:39, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hello @Premeditated Chaos: I had also added one more coverage from The Hindu. I think you had missed that so can you please see the coverage tell me that the coverage is enough or not ?

Hello @Premeditated Chaos: i am requesting you undeletion for the article Pranshu Chatur Lal. As the article now has some more in-depth coverages so i want this article to be undeleted so that i can improve the article. Batamore (talk) 10:06, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, what is the new coverage? You've been here before, I shouldn't have to ask. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 20:29, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
@Premeditated Chaos: Hello, here are the articles Times Of India & The Kolkata Mail, which i got from Google. I am requesting you to read these above articles and check. Whatever will be the desicion I will highly respect that. With regards Batamore (talk) 06:44, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hm, okay, I've undeleted the article. Please make sure to put those sources into the article as soon as possible. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 12:09, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for the undeletion. I have already cleaned up and updated all the informations with the in-depth sources. So now can you please check and give me your feedback. With regards. Batamore (talk) 15:37, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
Page history for Mario articles
[edit]Is it ok if I make a separate section asking for page history on Mario-related articles? It's for the Mario franchise strategy guide wikibook. To start, Cheep Cheep, Lakitu, King Boo, Bullet Bill (needs histsplit), Buzzy Beetle, and Dry Bones (character). 2005-Fan (talk) 01:04, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

File PRODS
[edit]Hello, Premeditated Chaos,
Thank you for going through all of these unused images and PROD'ding them. It looks like it's a time-consuming process but it's helping to get rid of a lot of junk files. Just the kind of productive but thankless job I appreciate. ;-) Liz Read! Talk! 02:46, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oh cheers! I find it perfect for when I need something to occupy my time but I'm too tired to concentrate on real work. And delightfully every so often I find something that I can put into an article, which always feels nice. Glad I'm not clogging up the PROD category too badly for you :) ♠PMC♠ (talk) 02:52, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- What I do when I'm in that mood is remove nonexistent, red link categories from articles. Pretty mindless stuff but sometimes I can find an appropriate category to substitute when it's just an error due to a misspelling. We are truly janitors. What you're doing, tagging a dozen files, is nothing compared to a few months ago when an editor, deservedly, PROD'd over 300 non-notable, unpopulated "settlements" in one day. Luckily, another admin found good grounds to nuke most of them so we didn't have to inspect each one for suitability. Liz Read! Talk! 03:06, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Nonouti
[edit]File:11 Map of Nonouti, Kiribati.jpg
Dear User,
May I suppose that you have never been on Nonouti, a wonderful atoll of Kiribati? I was quite surprised when I saw an unreferenced article about Tetabakea, a place I have never heard before (I am a scholar of Oceanian studies), but of course, you can never know everything, even on the country you have studied most. Because it was just sandbox stuff with no reference (until 2008), I move it to Draft. Someone wrote already in 2015: "Appears to be fictitious entry MozzazzoM (talk) 13:50, 1 May 2015 (UTC)". So I was quite surprised that you REVERT my move (something always close to some disrespect, without further explanations) but with an article still so limited (no mention of the island of Nonouti, but an anonymous "atoll"…), so I have controlled your refs. One by one. Tetabakea seems not to be a village or a settlement of Nonouti, but just a place name (Causeway/Tetabakea) which was used as a limit area for Census. There is nothing like Tetabakea village in all Nonouti atoll, as you can see in the 2020 Census, where all the villages of Nonouti are listed. You will tell me that this name exists (or existed) in former census. But I will ask you to prove that this place is a village nowadays, it is not, except in your superficial reading of the sources. Have a look on the map. Sorry to tell you that, but it is not finding an old Gilbert and Ellice Islands census (I have all downloaded them in my own library), that you will demonstrate that I may be wrong, but who knows, you might be more smart than me.--Arorae (talk) 05:08, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- I think you make a reasonable point, but you should take it to AfD rather than unilaterally draftifying it. I've provided enough references to indicate that it clearly isn't fictional, but since it may not meet WP:GEOLAND, best to let the community discuss. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 05:36, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- To complete my analysis: here is the official report from 2010 census on Nonouti:
- Table 11-1: Nonouti population by village 2010
Nonouti Village Population
- Abamakoro 104 Benuaroa 84 Teuabu 269 Temanoku 286 Rotuma 405 Autukia 112 Matang 537 Taboiaki 692 Temotu 194
- Nonouti total population 2683
- Source: 2010 Census
"Taboiaki is the largest village of Nonouti with a population of 662 people (26%). Matang village is the administrative centre of the island and as such has better infrastructure and facilities, it is also the second largest village on Nonouti with 537 people (20% of the total). Benuaroa (a combined name for the islets of Mataboou and Tebuange) village held the least number of the island’s population, with only 84 people or 3% of the total population."
- Yours and you may need more explanations, it will be my pleasure.--Arorae (talk) 05:40, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- Let the community discuss about fictional places that not meet WP:GEOLAND? I have really no time to make an AfD for dozens of geo names places in Nonouti, all created/invented in 2008, and that are fictional as settlements or villages. Sorry, but an Admin who prefers fiction to reality, will not receive my support.--Arorae (talk) 05:47, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- I guess I don't understand how you have time to draftify the article, do all this research, type it all up here, and throw in some complaining about how I prefer fiction to reality (despite how I clearly provided sources that indicate it isn't fictional but likely former), but you don't have time to create an AfD. Makes perfect sense to me.
No worries though, I will go ahead and do it for you. You're welcome :) ♠PMC♠ (talk) 07:12, 21 July 2021 (UTC)- Oh, I like that you did it anyway despite complaining you have no time, and also draftified a pile of other articles. I've formatted the AfD properly for you and added it to today's AfD log. I also reverted the moves, because as I've already explained here, the proper place is AfD, not unilateral draftification on the assertion that a place is "fictonal". ♠PMC♠ (talk) 07:48, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

- Hi, thanks for being communicative, I do appreciate it. I understand that you are trying to win a contest, but you need to slow down and be a little more careful with your editing. There is a lot of potential for errors and other issues when you edit at high rates of speed. In particular, the WPWP contest rules specifically request an informative edit summary - something like "added photo of X". Just the #WPWP hashtags is not helpful to any editors seeking to review contributions. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 21:09, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

The file File:White Marc Bouwer dress of Angelina Jolie.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Rex Features is/was a photo agency. See WP:GETTY.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}

- Hey, I noticed you de-PROD'd this file. Just wondering, do you disagree with the rationale I gave above? i.e. that it comes from a photo agency and is thus disallowed per WP:GETTY? Colin M (talk) 00:42, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- When I initially de-PROD'd, no, I obviously didn't understand that being from Getty was an auto-fail even with an NFCC rationale. Having re-read the page today with the benefit of some sleep, now I get why that is. I wish you had come to speak to me rather than simply slapping a PROD tag and then starting an FFD without waiting for a response - this could have been dealt with much easier if you'd just communicated with me first. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 22:16, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I've G7-tagged it and left a note at the FFD. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 22:18, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- ??? I thought I was very clear in the explanation I provided with the PROD tag. The above notice posted to your talk page includes that explanation. If you were confused, you could have pinged me and I would have been happy to elaborate. A PROD'd file isn't going anywhere for at least 7 days. Instead you removed the PROD tag with an edit summary that made no reference to the rationale I gave for deletion. Your edit summary specifically told me that I should take the file to WP:FFD if I thought it should be deleted. I did that, and now you're saying you wish I hadn't gone to FFD? I even left a message on your talk page between your removal of the PROD tag and bringing it to FFD. After around 12 hours with no response, then I nominated to FFD, because I didn't want to forget about it, and I figured WP:NFC violations should be dealt with expediently. I think you're being a bit unreasonable here. Colin M (talk) 23:16, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Twelve hours when I'm clearly not actively editing is not that long to wait. It just seems silly to leave a message and then not bother to wait even a whole day for a response. I don't think it's that unreasonable to request communication when you're deleting files that have existed on-wiki for literal years, but in any case it's now deleted, so the problem is solved. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:36, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi PMC, I've been chasing down dangling references that have no sources in articles, and in African-American dance I found you introduced Baldwin, 1981, but there is no corresponding source for this. Lara Julian Deleted Article
[edit]Hi PMC, I am looking for the content of the Lara Julian page that was deleted some months ago. Where can I get the deleted text and its links ? Thank you for the attention. Best, — Preceding unsigned comment added by A-togai (talk • contribs)
- Before I take any action here, can I ask what your interest is in Lara Julian? You have only one other edit that isn't on this talk page, and usually that's a hallmark of a conflict of interest/undeclared paid editing situation. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 22:24, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I guarantee you that this is not due to an undeclared paid editing or conflict of interest, especially because I have no interest in publishing said article. Regarding to my lack of editions, I have interest on continuing wikipedia's editing, specifically on History, Art History and Art Business articles (my area of expertise). There are some additions that I am thinking of for Takashi Murakami's page. I have reviewed the deletion discussion and I completely agree, it needs credible references to be added to Wikipedia. The fact that someone used a sock puppet account to defend he or her self is embarassing. I just need the text to research her career path as an emerging artist, instead of manually browsing any websites with her interviews, etc. A-togai (talk) 22:57, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's quite interesting that you are a brand-new editor but are apparently familiar with concepts like sockpuppetry and using deleted articles to find references, and talk about continuing editing. Have you ever had an account before? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:32, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Sinews of Survival
[edit]On 4 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sinews of Survival, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the book Sinews of Survival by Canadian ethnologist Betty Kobayashi Issenman was described on release as "a cardinal reference in the field"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sinews of Survival. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sinews of Survival), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of Kissa Tanto
[edit]The article Kissa Tanto you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Kissa Tanto for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Indian district move
[edit]Hi. Couple of days ago you've moved Bhadradri Kothagudem district from without suffix to with district suffix, and stated to standardize with other district article titles. I also prefer it to be standardized as well, for consistency. There was an RM in 2020 but didn't result in any consensus to have this standardization. What are your thoughts on this? -- DaxServer (talk) 15:34, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, didn't realize there was a previous RM, I was just being bold. No one seems to have objected, so I guess that makes it a slight fait accompli (although if someone moved it back I wouldn't fight about it). I obviously prefer the standardization just for clarity's sake, but I'm not invested enough to start another RM discussion for the others. Happy to participate if you do wind up starting one though. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:45, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

- Of the ones that you bothered to link, the Chron, Chicago Sun-Times, HuffPo, The World, Claremont McKenna College, and Muslim Link Paper articles are articles about Latino Muslims in general which feature quotes from Mr. Galvan, they are not coverage of Mr. Galvan. The paper by Stephanie Londono is a similar "quote by" and not "coverage of" situation. The Remezcla source doesn't even mention him. JRER Vol. 8 contains a report by him, which makes it not independent and therefore it cannot used to demonstrate notability. The interviews on Practical Muslim and Patheos are the most in-depth, but interviews are normally taken as primary sources and aren't weighed heavily for notability. Plus, they're low-audience online blogazines. You ought to know better than to try to use Wikipedia as a source. I haven't looked into the ones you didn't provide links for, because frankly if you couldn't be bothered, I can't imagine they're much better coverage of Mr. Galvan than what you already presented. Juan Galvan told the crowd at Western Michigan University that his own ethnic background reflects the changing profile of modern Muslims. As he opened his presentation to members of WMU's Muslim Student Association, Galvan said that Islam is a religion of many faces, races and nationalities. "The most ironic thing about today is that a Mexican-American Muslim from Texas is about to speak with a group of people who live in Michigan," he said at the MSA banquet, held March 24. Here he was, Galvan said, a Hispanic Muslim appearing at a Midwestern university to speak to young Muslims who hailed from many lands. "It is through God's mercy, love, blessing and grace that we meet today," he said. "And, for this opportunity to meet with you, I thank you." Galvan grew up Catholic in a small Texas town. He converted to Islam in college a few years ago after meeting a man who explained, among other things, that Spain was a Muslim country for more than 700 years and that "thousands of Spanish words have Arabic roots." He said he began to believe that Islam is the "true, universal religion of God... As Muslims, we believe Islam is the correct and natural path." In an interview before his talk at WMU, Galvan said that he laments how fringe but high-profile groups in Islam seem to define what it means to be a Muslim. He pointed to the plight in Afghanistan of Abdul Rahman, a formerly Muslim convert to Christianity who was threatened with jail and execution. "What is unfortunate is that the meaning of Islam is not being defined by (mainstream) Muslims," he said. "You see a person throw a rock on the news and come to the conclusion that Muslims are all violent." Today, he said, the largest numbers of Muslims live in Indonesia. The United States is home to the most diverse population of Muslims, he said. "The American Muslim community is the most diverse Muslim community in the world," he said in his speech. "Even the history of Muslims in the United States is a testament to this diversity. Albanian Muslims are recognized for establishing the first effective mosque in the U.S. in Biddeford, Maine, in 1915." Besides Galvan's talk, the MSA program in-cluded a buffet-style dinner and an exhibition that featured artifacts from around the world. |

So we say that we have no double standard, but then we allow articles of non-notable sports players, porn stars, etc. No one is requesting that the articles provide reliable sources that indicate notability. Have I not provided reliable sources that indicate notability?
- In a way, you're preaching to the choir here: I am a notorious deletionist. I regularly spend my time tilting at windmills arguing for the deletion of articles about all kinds of non-notable subjects that people want to keep despite our sourcing guidelines, especially sports players. As Elli has kindly pointed out, and I detailed above, the sources you've provided are basically all trivial mentions or primary sources for Mr. Galvan, not coverage about him, so no, you have not provided reliable sources that indicate notability. The Kalamazoo Gazette source you quoted above is probably the best source you've provided for him; you want to look for more articles like that. I know this will disappoint you and I'm sorry. It's my strong belief as an admin that our sourcing guidelines apply to every subject, and I will not undelete an article that fails them. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:23, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
- Would you agree that all athletes found in Lists of sportspeople are notable? If not, why don't you and your friends seek to trim down the list? If you check those sources, you will see that coverage is often not directly about that particular athlete. -LatinoMuslim 03:54, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
- You are clearly not listening to a word I say. I completely agree that most sportspeople articles are complete fucking garbage. Here are some sample AfDs that I have personally started on the topic, if you don't believe that I actually do put my money where my mouth is on this. We're now getting into a position where you're trying to use the fact that I haven't personally managed to scour Wikipedia of non-notable athletes as an argument that I should undelete the article you want undeleted, which is not a fair argument. I don't believe that further discussion with you will be productive considering that you haven't been listening to me thus far; further posts on this topic will be ignored or if necessary, removed. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 21:03, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

- Ah, yeah - I was ignoring the column labelled "non-Fifa" by default. Glad to see I was right about that, at least. So, okay. Preferred stat database for international matches would be NFT then? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 10:41, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- GiantSnowman sorry, forgot to ping you. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 10:55, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, the ping didn't work! NFT is the best/most useful in my eyes, but still not perfect. GiantSnowman 11:44, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- Give me a shout of you need a hand / have any further queries. GiantSnowman 13:30, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello, PMC,
Thanks for restoring this category talk page. With the end of the war in Afghanistan, over the past week we had dozens of broken redirects for Afghanistan war categories with dates other than 2021. I guess I didn't look at this one closely enough. Thank you for catching it. Liz Read! Talk! 22:58, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- All good! I know you're usually pretty on the ball so I figured it was probably a misclick or an oversight. I just happened to have that particular one on my watchlist for eventual article deletion purposes :P cheers! ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:05, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
