Update ...

... on our FAC editorial in the Bugle, including your comments, here. The idea for this editorial was to give a lot of brief statements by a lot of people to convey the idea that there's broad support for the idea that anyone can (and more should) review at FAC. After we see if the editorial has any effect, we can try to do something less scattershot in another editorial. Please let me know if you are (or aren't) happy with any effect this might have at FAC. - Dank (push to talk) 19:45, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Transylvania Television Page Reinstatement Reqeuest

Dear Wizardman,

I am posting another talk thread to your page to request reinstatment of the Transylvania Television page.

The article was subject to an AfD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2011_April_17#Transylvania_Television

Which unfortunately, none of the interest parties commented or provided additional content, media references during the discussion period and then you, per the AfD deleted the page.

I subsequently contacted you and MelanieN, about reinstatement, you both advised that if provided more noteable articles, the page could be reinstated. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:ElationTalk&oldid=425940633

Given that advice, I created this talk page, providing more content, which is now moved to your archive, and as far as I can tell, no comments back from you on the issue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Wizardman/Archive36#Transylvania_Television_Page_-_re-in-statement_request

Please forgive me, if I am missing something, I am new to the WP, and am trying to follow protocol. Does my request being moved to your archive, with no follow up, mean you will not reinstate the page? Or have you not had time to get to it? I have tried to be patient and not pester you, as it's deletion is our fault in not providing information during the AfD period.

If we can get the page reinstated, we will update and address the AfD issues. If you cannot reinstate, is our next best option to go through the formal Deletion Review process?

Thank you and regards ElationTalk (talk) 23:10, 3 May 2011 (UTC) ElationTalk

FTC problem

Hey Wizard, I just promoted Atlantic Coast Conference football championship games. When I updated the history part in its talk page, it says that its a good topic. Do you know how to change that? GamerPro64 01:49, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

You have to mark the topic's repromotion on each articles' talk page, and add it to the topic's relevant category. Once that is done- you'll have four articles in the topic's "featured content" category and four in the "good content" category, the wikimagic will take over and promote it to an FT on the topic's talk page. Courcelles 01:53, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that. JKBrooks85 (talk) 08:09, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter

The Guild of Copy Editors – May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Guild of Copy Editors invite you to participate in the May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive began on May 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on May 31 at 23:59 (UTC). The goals of this backlog elimination drive are to eliminate as many articles as possible from the 2009 backlog and to reduce the overall backlog by 15%. ! NEW ! In an effort to encourage the final elimination of all 2009 articles, we will be tracking them on the leaderboard for this drive.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

We look forward to meeting you on the drive! Your GOCE coordinators: SMasters, Diannaa, Tea with toast, Chaosdruid, and Torchiest

Dear Sir, the said article has eventually been deleted after going through a proposed for deletion nomination, then article for deletion nomination followed by two re-listings - which goes to show the procedural maturity in wikipedia - but my only regret is that despite my elaborate explanatory notes as well as complete revamp of the article when compared to the 1st version (as also acknowledged by an administrator regarding the author's "hardwork") - still till the end, I remained the sole creator -cum- contributor to this article - whereas I kept hoping throughout this duration of nearly 4 weeks that some of the reviewers would also help me out in tracing more material and content for the same.

I just have two queries for you, that is if you may choose to reply: 1. Did you go through the talkpage contents - both at the AFD talkpage as well as the article talkpage OR the deletion was due to no . of "Delete" vs "Keep" votes? 2. Is it possible for you to have the deleted article put into my userspace?

Datang town (Chengdu Datang) at RFD 04-24

Not to cast judgment or doubt on your actions, but I seriously question whether a waiting period of several months (perhaps July) would resolve these issues:

  1. Whether Thryduulf or Rossami come barging in. They say they seriously consider my arguments, but did not respond at all to my first bullet point (about confusion). So long as they come in, they will absolutely ruin the debate, to the effect of trolling, even.
  2. Whether new arguments or circumstances can surface. The metropolitan area of Chengdu would have to expand at an unthinkable rate (60 km in several months!!) to even barely include this town and possibly force a re-organisation of counties. So long as the current state of affairs holds, my argument about confusion will remain the same. My other arguments will probably be the same.

Hence why I consider waiting out useless and why I will probably consider renominating within a few weeks. –HXL's Roundtable and Record 04:23, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for going through and sorting the backlog at RfD, but you didn't place the {{oldrfd}} template on the talk pages of redirects that were not deleted. Lara Logan

Hi, I am looking for an uninvolved admin to consider adding this {{Arab-Israeli Arbitration Enforcement}} arbitration notice to this BLP. The disruption of that BLP has been unending over the last couple of months and imo its become a battlefield for Arab Israeli issues as she was attacked and someone shouted she a Jew which has variously been alleged to be the reason the crown did it. Imo raising the level of editing restrictions will protect the BLP from some of the disruption, the template restricts users to one revert and if users have previous restrictions in the area any violations could be assessed via any previous history, thoughts? The article has been at the BLPN multiple times also over the last couple of months and is there again now here. make mine Milk

Hi. I'd like to post an article on the 'make mine Milk' campaign. I previously submitted one but it was deleted. As I am a new user, I'd like some help on how to create a new article which isn't advertorial but is informative.

I have posted the following for notability:

References:

Award nominations: http://www.cipr.co.uk/excellence-shortlist

1 year anniversary: http://www.farmersguardian.com/home/business/business-news/milk-campaign-celebrates-first-anniversary/38335.article

From the information above, would it be possible to create an article? Please give any advice.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi, I have been studying SOA since few years and hence got involved into editing the page for Thomas Erl. He is a reputed author and speaker on SOA related field. I requested for the undeletion of page and they asked me to contact the administrator who closed the page. Let me know if you have any questions related to the author and I would be glad to provide my inputs. I wanted the page to be an introduction to the author, his books, and seminar rather than using it for advertisement or self-promotion. Please restore the page so that I can edit it with the current update on the author.

WikiCup 2011 May newsletter

We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Scotland Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Texas Racepacket (submissions), Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions) and Saskatchewan Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.

A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 23:40, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I've addressed your comments at the review page. --Starstriker7(Talk) 18:12, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Joe Vitko, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=vitko-001jos.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) VWBot (talk) 19:57, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

A "1 voter" you punched "delete" back in 2009 so you may wish to evaluate and respond to this. I've no opinion on this right now but the nom and the editor !voting "delete" use to do a lot of "tag teaming" in AFD back in those days. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 04:43, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Greetings, I was wondering if you knew the answer to a couple questions.

  1. Is the featured topics process still going?
  2. What is the procedure for adding aticles to an existing topic and if I wanted to create a couple do I need to submit the entire group or related articles at once.
    • For example, there are several new United States Naval Academy alumni that could be added to that topic.
    • There are also a lot of Medal of Honor recipent lists that could be a topic but not all the lists are feaured yet, same with the lists of US state governors. Several are featured but not all.

Thanks in advance for the help. --Kumioko (talk) 11:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

I've had another look and the issues persist, I'm afraid. I seem to be in a minority here and I hate being such a nuisance over this, but the prose seems quite poor in places. In general, I wish sports articles had a higher standard of prose at FAC, as it would never be excused in another topic. Just because it's about a sportsman, standards shouldn't drop. Should there be any further sanction for his not adhering to policy on talk page notices? – Muboshgu (talk) 00:31, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
It is a bit of a grey area. WP:Blanking mentions notices about sanctions currently in effect. So I agree that they shouldn't be removed so I removed his access to his talk page. That being said there is a belief that since it WP:Blanking doesn't specifically mention block notices that those aren't included. He has actually had this issue come up in the past looking at his block log and the history of the talk page. At that time they decided he was allowed to remove them but I don't really think that is what WP:BLANKING means. Feel free to remove my change though if you don't agree. -DJSasso (talk) 13:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Ahh didn't notice you had responded to this on his talk page. Was coming here to let you know I had changed it anyways. -DJSasso (talk) 13:23, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Just an update that the students will be finishing soon, so you may want to do a second pass and leave some final comments before closing the article (tomorrow?). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:07, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. After grading tomorrow, if needed, I can also help with the articles myself :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 05:57, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Re: Collab?

Re your message: I think it would be great to work with you again, but I am at a bit of a loss on what that collaboration might be. I am admittedly not a great content writer. It is just not really my thing. You just happened to run across me on a more significant article subject that I took interest in. Perhaps I can turn it around the other way: What can I do to help you? -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:42, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I just noticed that your signature has a bad link at the end. It would be good to fix it. Wilbysuffolk Talk to me 19:17, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that you protected this template and I was just wondering if that was due to a request or based on the number of articles it is on? I don't mind but since none of us that usually are the ones to update the template are administrators it is putting work on others. --Kumioko (talk) 15:46, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

No problem thanks for the explanation. I thought it was something like that since its on about 98000 items now including articles, templates and the like. --Kumioko (talk) 18:35, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Wizardman. I'm not sure consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sierra McCormick was to delete, and I am about to go to deletion review regarding the outcome. Do you have any objections? Eagles 24/7 (C) 00:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. If you discount one of the keep !votes, you are left with one keep !vote, one neutral !vote, one delete !vote, and one delete !vote from the nominator. The one delete !vote, IMO, should be discounted the same way one of the keep !votes was discounted, for the user cites the multiple deletions of the article as a reason to delete it once more. That's not consensus in my eyes and should have been closed as "no consensus." Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:37, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Deletion review for Sierra McCormick

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Sierra McCormick. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Eagles 24/7 (C) 14:36, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Hugh Culverhouse Article Review

Thanks for reviewing my Hugh Culverhouse GA nomination. I see that my old pal Tony the Tiger stepped in and put it up for community assessment. He did the original article review, and I regret having not challenged his original decision, because it was clear that he was judging it according to personal preferences that were not Wikipedia standards. That experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I never wrote here again, but I did eventually come back and put the article back up for review, as I'd sunk a lot of time into it. I see this article as more important than many here, because the picture of Culverhouse that my research revealed was so different from the one that public perception has painted. The original stub article was little more than a borderline-slanderous hatchet job, and I feel good about setting the record straight. Thanks again. Dementia13 (talk) 03:18, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Collaboration on Happy Chandler

Sounds great to me! Taking that article to FA is on my to-do list anyway, and I've already gotten more than a little start on a rewrite here. I've actually been hoping that someone with a baseball background would do that part of the article, or at least take a look at it. I can recommend a couple of articles from The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society that deal with his time in baseball, if you want. Having you work on the baseball end would allow me to get back to Divide and Dissent: Kentucky Politics 1930-1963, which goes into a lot of detail about the rivalry between the Chandler faction of the state Democratic Party and the faction led by Earle C. Clements. Is it OK with you just to work from the draft in my user space? Acdixon (talk contribs count) 13:23, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

GBED

Do you know when the next GAN backlog elimination drive's happening? I remember reading somewhere that another would happen some time this year, but I don't really know for sure. --Starstriker7(Talk) 17:51, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Haha, hopefully not...we'll just have to hold the line the best we can until that date, then. :)
Anyways, thanks for the heads-up! I only wish it was sooner, for I have way too much free time at the moment. --Starstriker7(Talk) 18:07, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I know. I suppose what I meant is that now would be a perfect time to engage in some friendly competition, given I do have so much time on my hands. :P --Starstriker7(Talk) 04:15, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 June newsletter

We are half way through 2011, and entering the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; the semi-finals are upon us! Points scored in the interim (29/30 June) may be counted towards next round, but please do not update your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. 16 contestants remain, and all have shown dedication to the project to reach this far. Our round leader was Scotland Casliber (submissions) who, among other things, successfully passed three articles through featured article candidates and claimed an impressive 29 articles at Did You Know, scoring 555 points. Casliber led pool D. Pool A was led by Ohio Wizardman (submissions), claiming points for a featured article, a featured list and seven good article reviews, while pool C was led by Norway Eisfbnore (submissions), who claimed for two good articles, ten articles at Did You Know and four good article reviews. They scored 154 and 118 respectively. Pool B was by far our most competitive pool; six of the eight competitors made it through to round 4, with all of them scoring over 100 points. The pool was led by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), who claimed for, among other things, three featured articles and five good articles. In addition to the four pool leaders, 12 others (the four second places, and the 8 next highest overall) make up our final 16. The lowest scorer who reached round 4 scored 76 points; a significant increase on the 41 needed to reach round 3. Eight of our semi-finalists scored at least twice as much as this.

No points were awarded this round for featured pictures, good topics or In the News, and no points have been awarded in the whole competition for featured topics, featured portals or featured sounds. Instead, the highest percentage of points has come from good articles. Featured articles, despite their high point cost, are low in number, and so, overall, share a comparable number of points with Did You Know, which are high in number but low in cost. A comparatively small but still considerable number of points come from featured lists and good article reviews, rounding out this round's overall scores.

We would again like to thank United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) and Bavaria Stone (submissions) for invaluable background work, as well as all of those helping to provide reviews for the articles listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please do keep using it, and please do help by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.

Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here, for those interested, though it appears that neither are completely accurate at this time. J Milburn and The ed17 23:43, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
