Multiple drafts for Han Solo solo

I thought I should notify people that there are two drafts for the Han Solo Anthology film: Draft:Star Wars Anthology: Untitled Han Solo film and Draft:Untitled Han Solo Anthology film. The pages are largely identical, and it's not really necessary to have more than one. However, I'm not in a position to merge the pages, due to being currently restricted to mobile, making such a task immensely difficult. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 01:18, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

SoWhy performed the move so perhaps they would be kind enough to perform the history merge too with https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Star_Wars_Anthology:_Untitled_Han_Solo_film&redirect=no? I did so because it was requested. I had no idea there are two drafts. That said, Anthony Appleyard rejected the request because of WP:PV by now. I have to admit that I'm also a newbie when it comes to such matters but that seems to be the accepted way to do it per WP:PV. I have protected said subpage to prevent accidental restorations of the draft's content to the main space since there is no reason to edit this page anymore. Any required text can be copied, with attribution, to the new main article. Pinging @Anthony Appleyard for another opinion by an experienced page history merger. Forthcoming film dates

I just reverted the addition of forthcoming film dates to {{Star Wars}} before I noticed that The Last Jedi has been placed in Category:2017 films and the untitled Han Solo film is in Category:2018 films. The TV and Book WikiProjects follow WP:CRYSTAL pretty strictly, mentioning upcoming release dates in articles but (in my experience) not categorizing works as "2017 British drama series" or "2018 American novels" until they have premiered or been published. It is also commonplace to use "upcoming" or "forthcoming" in related navigation templates. I'm not sure if this Project or the Film Project are a little more relaxed on this issue, or if the Star Wars fanboys are just pushing the envelope (you know how excited we get LOL). There is a discussion from a few years ago where a few editors including myself supported including the release year: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film/Archive 54#Release year for upcoming films. I don't think we need to shy away from release years because they are verifiable, not to mention worthy of note. "Forthcoming" is unnecessarily vague. Help requested for MOS for fiction

There are currently two threads at WT:COMICS, the first at WT:COMICS#Assistance in developing content relating to individual characters across multiple articles and the latter and more active one at WT:COMICS#Changing the standard DAB, regarding how to deal with characters who have made significant appearances and received significant development in multiple media. So far as I can tell, this project, and maybe the related Wikipedia:WikiProject Disney, might have people who are among the most knowledgable about how to structure articles about characters who may have received significant development in multiple media, issues regarding titling of articles, etc. Any input any of you might be able to offer which could be used in maybe developing a good MOS for fiction, which could deal with the current issues and similar ones, would be very welcome. I'm not really all that interested in doing it myself (mostly because of time constraints due to school), but I figured that I'd be doing the article a disservice if I didn't at least mention it here, in the hopes that there would be someone more interested. Plot expansion of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Hello. I was reading over the few separate articles that exist for individual episodes, and decided soe plot expansion would be beneficial. Before I do so, however, I want to ask what is the appropriate ideal amount of text for plot summaries? Also, if it is within the scope of policies and procedures (particularly WP:OR) to be filling in plot summaries with what I've watched. I understand that own personal interjections, or observations are not allowed, but I just want to make sure it's alright before I start doing so. Boomer VialHolla! If you're referring to the 2008 series, it's my opinion that the plot section is already too big. Generally, it's okay to summarize based on what's visibly apparent on screen. But, generally, I'd look at WP:TVPLOT for guidelines, but it's my opinion, especially because there's a separate episode list, that the plot section for that article is already too long and actually needs to be shortened. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 23:36, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

I've recently binge-watched all six seasons, and it can get that way at points. Source inadvertently lists "sarlacc" and "jedi" as character names -- what to do?

I'm in a quandry over how to fix the wording of Han (trilobite), which includes the words Other taxa named after Star Wars characters include [...] the trapdoor spider Aptostichus sarlacc, [...] the ant Tetramorium jedi.

I know we don't have to take the source, which includes these in a long list of names taken from fictional "characters", at its word when this is clearly just a mistake, but I really don't want to change it to say something more abstract (and irrelevant to most of the genuine character names listed) like Other taxa named after Star Wars concepts.

What to do?

Technically a sarlacc and a Jedi are fictional characters, from the perspective that they are invented creatures/people that are depicted in creative works. The term doesn't have to apply solely to named individuals like Luke Skywalker. But I agree that the phrasing in Han (trilobite) feels wrong, so I think it would be fine to clarify with Other taxa named after Star Wars characters and concepts. I wouldn't worry too much about "contradicting" the source, which seems a little self-published to me anyway.— TAnthonyTalk 14:54, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Started up two related drafts

Still feeling a high off Celebration, so I ended up starting two SW drafts: Draft:Bo-Katan Kryze and Draft:Star Wars Forces of Destiny. The latter is in terrible shape right now—it's late and I really shouldn't be starting drafts right now—and it won't build the steam for a standalone until the first episode is released, I reckon, but I wanted to get it started before I lose the motivation. And then to have everything readily available for when a standalone can... stand alone. Seeing that Forces of Destiny is a new series, it's what I'm more interested in building in general, seeing as it's more likely to be generating the most interest out of the two. Rancho Obi-Wan

Is this museum notable? I am surprised we don't have an entry for it; we do have one for its founder, Steve Sansweet, but I don't think he is notable - I found [1] and [2] but generally sources mention him in connection to his museum, not the other way around. I think his article should be redirected to the museum one, but as we don't have it... delete it or wait? Forces of Destiny updates

Star Wars Forces of Destiny started published, so the article is getting updated. It's gotten some reviews already, so I think it passes notability. Additionally, I've posted a question about the series, asking for clarification on whether or not it's should be termed a multimedia project on the talk page, but it hasn't garnered any responses. Overhaul of List of changes in Star Wars re-releases

I've been thinking about doing a revamp for List of changes in Star Wars re-releases for a while because... well, just look a the damn thing. (It has repeated section headings! It's a poster child for WP:FANCRUFT violation! It's almost completely unreferenced! There's no couching of the information in its real-world value!) Anyway, I've finally gotten around to some robust idea of what I have in mind in a draft in my userspace (oldid to current revision). It's not in working order, but that's the idea of it. Though I'm sure it's an improvement, I'm generally unsure if this is the right direction to be going in.

Additionally, I am worried because most of the sources I have are less than five years old. Does anyone know of any older sources that would be useful, especially sources contemporaneous with the 1997 release and especially print sources?

Additionally additionally, I'm... admittedly not over well-versed with the changes, because I don't care about them. (Helpful, I guess, when it comes to excising material.) So while I'm sure I could find the most significant changes because they'll be mentioned in third-party sources, it may be of use to know if I've missed any currently not listed on the draft so that I could keep an eye out for sources. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 20:32, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

There has a discussion about splitting the Star Wars article. The discussion is... a bit all over, but it seems to be meant to be at Talk:Star Wars#Way too big. Jabba and Palpatine

So, more than 10 years ago now Jabba the Hutt and Palpatine were promoted to FA status. The promoted Jabba article actually used a spoiler warning and damn if that doesn't take me back to younger days; but it should highlight that Wikipedia's changed much in the meantime, and the output of Star Wars media hasn't exactly slowed since. My personal focus is on Palpatine here, but Jabba also has some similar problems that I might bring up with completeness. I've been planning to nominate the Emperor for a FA review for a bit now, but I've been hesitant because, partly, it's hard to know where to start (and partly because I didn't just want to spring it without warning, since I really would like to see the article in as best a shape as possible). This isn't necessarily because the problems are uncountably myriad, but Palpatine is honestly a relatively 'Big' topic to broach, both from a Star Wars perspective and really just from a general cultural look. I do still intend to bring this up on FAR soon enough, but I thought it might be worth bringing the issues up here first.

Some of my problems are relatively minor (the infobox's cluttered, and that's really a wider talk we could have here); some of my problems are bigger but could be solved relatively easy with some copy-editing or more drastic rewriting (I think the prequel trilogy section looks a bit odd); then there are problems that either require more work or might need some discussion about. As far as Star Wars media goes, Palpatine has appeared heavily enough, both in incidental appearances and more major ones, that we don't really need to summarise or even mention every single one. It'd be an exercise in futility and despair. But there are still gaps there worth filling in: there is no mention of Palpatine in gaming, and while many of those appearances are fairly shallow, they're probably worth giving a nod to; the descriptions of Palpatine's post-Lucas appearances are still sparse; the Legends' literature section has only minorly changed since 2006, and I'm left wondering if there's anything noteworthy to add. (Conversely, I wonder if the info on his appearance in the 2003 Clone Wars should be cut down a bit, or its image removed.)

Maybe most importantly to talk about is the "In popular culture" section. Given its contents, you could argue that it's more of a "Cultural impact" section, but semantics. What concerns me is that its contents feel, well, shallow. The section has only gotten smaller since 2006, and for a character like Palpatine, there really should be more in-depth sources that analyse and talk about the character. Currently the article lists, essentially, two instances of Palpatine being referenced, and one FOX editorial briefly mentioning the comparisons he's been involved with. I know the historical comparisons blend in with the Characteristics section, but there stands a lot more that could be said about Palpatine's reception, about his standing as an icon, etc. It really strikes me as a major gap. The section flirts with some mentioning of academia, but. again, it sources exactly one article. I expect there's likely more you could say about his appearances in merchandising, too. Now, I know my problems with the article probably aren't unshared, nor are they particularly insightful or shocking; but we do need to deal with these, at least if there'll be any hope in improving the article or ever recovering/maintaining its FA status. – The Millionth One (talk) (contribs) 04:46, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Regarding inboxes, I agree about them being cluttered, and this is largely due to the insistence on cramming in every single voice actor to portray characters in every radio drama, video game appearance, etc.; I would much prefer to limit the infobox to details of canon appearances only, other stuff can surely be kept for the article body. Does the Palpatine infobox (which, remember, is only there to summarise key information) really need an exhaustive list of ten voice actors and what media they appeared in, including Lego Star Wars and "read along storybook CDs"? Agreed, though I might go a bit further. An infobox is meant to contain key information, vital to the subject, and not much else. It is not meant to be a comprehensive list of every single voiced appearance a character has made. The most extreme solution would be to limit the infoboxes only to portrayals in the core live-action films: the reader needs to know, at a cursory glance, that Mark Hamill played Luke Skywalker, that Ian McDiarmid played Palpatine; that Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen played Anakin in the prequels, and that in the original trilogy Vader was a strange compilation of David Prowse, Bob Anderson and James Earl Jones. They don't need to know Scott Cleverdon played Obi-Wan in two video game tie-ins, or that Helen Sadler voiced Rey in one of the Lego Star Wars shorts -- including this only serves to obfuscate and distract (and make the infobox an unreadable blob of text). A lot of these appearances aren't even, and shouldn't be, mentioned in the body; they're simply trivial information.
That said, there are other Star Wars media who really probably are worth noting, if we can manage to include them without slippering into an endless slope. The Clone Wars is unquestionably notable, and Rebels essentially follows from its lead; likely it would be worth including Matt Lanter and James Arnold Taylor, for instance. But what other works we might want to list might be worthy of some discussion. I wouldn't want to do it on the basis of canonicity, at least. It may provide a warped view of things, and essentially feels like kicking the can down the road. Articles for Chirrut and Baze?

Recently I noticed while perusing the Rogue One article that Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus both do not have articles, but the other main characters such as Jyn, Cassian, K2SO, Bodhi, Krennic, and Saw do. I wanted to get started on making their articles rightway and was encouraged to visit here first to establish a consensus as to whether they are necessary. Considering the popularity of those two characters (and the fact that even Bodhi has an article?), I think it would be appropriate. TheGreatClockwyrm (talk) 15:55, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

It does strike me as a notable omission, at least as things stand. It might be that we should have a talk about whether all these other characters deserve an article; I'm more inclined to give some more benefit of the doubt to the former, but neither Krennic's article or Bodhi's really do much to establish notability. They're not completely devoid of sources or anything, but it's largely just a few interviews with actors during the film's release.
Now, Chirrut especially I do remember receiving more attention. I think it might be worth looking to see if he could hold an article, though I haven't really dug into it. Since the characters are presented as something of a duo and were developed as sort of contrasts to each other, I might suggest a combo article, Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus or the like. I dunno. List of Star Wars characters splits

There is currently a discussion about a challenged split of List of Star Wars characters into multiple smaller articles based on individual Star Wars films and works, which involved the creation of eleven new articles. Currently, it is felt that the list is too long, especially after many past discussions to address this have gone unimplemented, and does not meet guidelines. However, it is also felt that the split structure is not effective and fails to improve. There is also a discussion about notability as it applies to character lists, whether all characters listed must meet a full threshold of notability expected for standalone articles or if there is a lesser threshold for inclusion on lists. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

Original novelizations

Until recently, the novelizations for the original and prequel trilogies were designated as Legends in Template:Star Wars Legends novels and List of Star Wars books. This is basically the result of this 2016 discussion on the topic. I have yet to find the talk page comment or edit summary that brought this canonicity issue to my attention, but there is consensus in the archived discussion that the works are Legends. Not mentioned were the "new" young reader novelizations of the original series (A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy, The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?, and Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side!) released in 2015. In any case, I just reverted edits to Template:Star Wars Legends novels and Template:Star Wars canon novels that establish these works as part of the new continuity. Rose Tico "Portrayed by" and "Voiced by" infobox fields

Seeking opinions for a WP:CONSENSUS at this discussion at the Rose Tico page, which I've recently expanded and nominated for GA. The issue at hand is whether the actress' name is needed in the "Voiced by" field of the character infobox in addition to the "Portrayed by" field. Character categories

So, semi-recently Category:Star Wars characters was diffused into a fair few categories. Not a move I'm opposed to, given the amount of coverage Star Wars receives both on and outside of Wikipedia. (I think, depending on what you count, there's near-100 character articles. There's a lot, even if we had a severe pruning.) That said, I wanted to bring up the way the categories had been split.

The characters have been divided into categories by the medium in which they appear (comics, film, etc.), and on the surface this is a solid out-of-universe way of categorising them in a way useful to readers. The problem with this approach, though, is a little clear if you look at the contents of, as examples, Category:Star Wars literary characters and Category:Star Wars comics characters. Star Wars is a big multimedia franchise, and if you appear in a film and are notable enough to get a Wikipedia article, you probably appear in a few books, comics, and the odds are even you've appeared in a video game. So, as implemented, the categories end up pretty indistinct, and the value of dividing the characters such loses its appeal.

The most obvious solution I can suggest is limiting each category to a character's debut. I.e. Luke is a film character; Doctor Aphra is a comics character; Thrawn is a literary character. This approach does have its downsides, though, and is part of the reason why I haven't just boldly gone ahead, requested a bunch of moves and started editing a bunch of characters (aside from me generally being a little lazy). Some characters have notable appearances in mediums they don't originate in; Thrawn's one example, and if we want to get technical Ahsoka Tano debuted in a theatrically released film.

Realistically, for the sake of characters like Boba Fett (television special), Jyn Erso (tie-in novel) and Saw Gerrera (animated series), I would probably suggest the film characters category be left as-is were we to take this route, as I believe readers would be best served by easily finding Star Wars characters with cinematic appearances. – The Millionth One (talk) (contribs) 07:17, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Recently-added extreme amount of plot detail in Lego Star Wars video game articles

The other day I noticed that the Lego Star Wars video game articles all had recently added sections called "Plot". They had all added by anonymous users within the past few months. The articles read perfectly competently, and much more succinctly, before they were added. I therefore feel they should be removed, or at the very least, heavily condensed.

The synopses are all disproportionately large compared to the rest of each article. In fact, the synopsis for each film represented in the games is as large as the synopsis you can find on the article for that respective film! The Complete Saga's plot synopsis also consists almost entirely of paragraphs copied from the Lego Star Wars: The Video Game and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy articles.

This is not a Lego Star Wars wiki, and so this much detail strikes me as being inappropriate, and inconsistent with typical video game articles on Wikipedia. The information in these sections also seems completely unreferenced.

I took it upon myself to remove them, but this was quickly reverted by another user. I therefore feel it would be best to obtain opinions from other users, and obtain a consensus before any further action can be taken.

I'm not sure who's actively watching this talk page but Template:Sith Order master-apprentice relationship was just created and added to multiple Sith-related character articles. The creator Cassandra872 just sourced the tree and commented that "This page exists because Jedi Order master-apprentice relationship exists." That smaller template was apparently created on 8/27/20 because multiple articles like Jedi and Luke Skywalker used a truncated tree, but I think the problem is that this trivial, in-universe info is not appropriate for a standalone section in each of these articles. It was added to multiple articles on 9/7/2020 by Atvica. I don't find this a convincing precedent that justifies its inclusion. The Mandalorian episode pages

It was proposed (November 15) that all individual episode pages of The Mandalorian be merged into the season article. Discuss: Talk:The_Mandalorian#Episodes_articles

Also nearly all of the Mandalorian episode articles have been marked as High importance . It would be helpful if the articles were objectively evaluated by someone associated with this subproject to give a better idea if some are more important than others. I would guess that season opening, and season finale episodes, are slightly more important than other episodes? Maybe some of the other award winning episodes[3] are important too? The Force's Afterlife section duplication of lines

The section on Afterlife has a similar ending line on 2 paragraphs (paragraph 3 and 4) and I think a copyedit or maybe bring the line down on its own? This might have been discussed before so pardon me if this has been dealt with. It is a duplication of information with an extra interpretation on the first occurrence. I am suggesting to move the first occurrence (on the 3rd paragraph) down to the second occurrence (on the 4th paragraph) and remove the second occurrence.

"List of Star Wars encyclopedic species" has been promoted Good Article... in French!

An article on the French Wikipedia, with no existing version here (that I'm aware of), has recently been promoted "Bon article" (=Good article). Titled "List of Star Wars encyclopedic species" ("Liste des espèces encyclopédiques de Star Wars"), it has been built mostly from sources or English or translated content from this language. This bibliography allowed to list only species fitting into the notability criteria for Wikipedia.

Here is a rough, unstyled, translation from the first paragraph :

The list of Star Wars encyclopedia species identifies the names and simplified presentations of the major intelligent, animal, and plant species in the film saga and wholly or largely centered on the presentation of species in encyclopedias such as The New Essential Guide to Alien Species (2006) by Ann Margaret Lewis and Helen Keier, Ryder Windham's Ultimate Star Wars (2015), Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry's The Atlas (2016), Tricia Barr, Adam Bray, and Cole Horton's The Visual Encyclopedia (2017), or Katrina Pallant and Nathalie Clubb's Alien archive (2019). Species not present in these encyclopedias, even if considered by some to be important, are excluded from the census.

I have no opinion on whether Star Wars Theory meets WP:GNG or whatever domain-specific notability guidelines exist for social media content creators. I am viscerally opposed to a List of Star Wars content creators item, which I suspect would rapidly become indiscriminate. For one thing, the title is vague: George Lucas was a Star Wars content creator. So, some clarity in the scope at just a name level is needed. I'm curious as to whether WikiProject:...People Who Do Things on YouTube? has domain-specific criteria for lists such as these. Even so, such a list in the SW space would need to reach consensus on very clear-cut inclusion criteria. Are there existing, mature examples of this kind of list being proposed in other franchises, e.g. List of Star Trek content creators, List of Mass Effect content creators, List of WarHammer 40K content creators, List of Twilight content creators, List of Care Bears content creators, etc.? --EEMIV (talk) 21:14, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Absolutely oppose such a list. There is no reason to create a list of YouTubers and folks on other platforms just because they make Star Wars related commentary. (Content creator is such an awful term imo, by the way. I don't care how common it is in online spaces these days. Just terrible.) At best, it violates WP:NOTDIRECTORY. That topic itself is not notable. I don't have an opinion on Star Wars Theory, but it recently passed an AfD in October 2021, in which it was determined that coverage on the channel provided from reputable sources like Newsweek, The Daily Telegraph, and Variety is sufficient notability. If you haven't already, read the AfD nomination: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Star Wars Theory. Thrawn trilogy merges

I was disturbed to discover that the wealth of information in Thrawn trilogy and Heir to the Empire has been lost to readers now that both of those articles redirect to Grand Admiral Thrawn. These were the first and arguably most important novels in the Expanded Universe, and now Wikipedia contains no substantial discussion of the history of the books. I do not see a proper discussion building consensus around the redirects on any of the relevant talk pages (if there was one, please let me know). Shocked to see the Thrawn Trilogy doesn't have its own article anymore. Given its impact on the franchise (even on the films!) it surely passes GNG. I would support reverting to the version you linked, though we should probably expand the "Reception, sales and influence" to demonstrate why the trilogy is notable (perhaps creating a "legacy" subsection?). — Czello 07:40, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Yikes. I suspect Heir could be rewritten to demonstrate GNG -- it just hadn't been and was just niche enough to generally escape wider notice. I'm less certain about the article on Thrawn-prominent books -- you don't have to get much beyond Heir for these to become "just more Star Wars books" (and while the article is titled "Thrawn Trilogy," it's really about all the Thrawn-adjacent books from Legends). I don't think Wikipedia would be super well-served with an Heir article and then some separate "Here are all the Thrawn books" article. I doubt the concept of "The Thrawn Corpus of Literature" has itself garnered enough coverage to meet GNG; if so, it's probably all focused on the Thrawn character, and that would be the best place to add significant content. Yeah, I certainly don't think there should be more than one article. Other Thrawn books outside of the trilogy are irrelevant. That said, I think it raises a question: should the resurrected article be "Heir to the Empire" or "The Thrawn Trilogy". My understanding is that it's the trilogy at a whole that gets praise for its legacy -- but do the sources say that, or do they focus more on Heir? — Czello 13:10, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

I can see how the fact that the old Thrawn Trilogy is no longer canon could lower it's GNG(books), these books may have made significant contributions to legends but no longer apply to what is canon. I have not seen many articles for legend books currently on Wikipedia. I believe in order for this to meet GNG(fiction) there would need to be enough reliable sources saying that it has effected Star Wars. There is also the confusion with the name "Thrawn Trilogy" as the newer canon Trilogy is also referred to by the same name. Dobblestein 🎲 🎲 talk 23:03, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Titling the Skeleton Crew article

Thank goodness, I was starting to believe there was some sort of unspoken rule, because all the live action series (The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Kenobi, and Ahsoka) all have Star Wars-less page titles, while the Disney+ era animated series (so far set by The Bad Batch and Visions) must use them. The other live-action Star Wars series don't actually have "Star Wars" in the title so that is why their articles don't have it in their titles either. But it does look like Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the official title for the new series so the wiki article should reflect that. - adamstom97 (talk) 02:49, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Lists of Star Wars characters

I have worked on List of Star Wars characters for a while, and I was responsible for the major structural overhaul that started last fall, moving away from the massive tables to individual character entries reminiscent of the subpages at Characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, I have been struggling to figure out exactly what this page should be, because Star Wars is such a massive franchise and I have been unable to find clear inclusion criteria or deal with the backlog of inconsistent redirects. I am wondering if there is any value in clearing the bulk of this page altogether to resemble the aforementioned Marvel page, and renaming it "Lists of Star Wars characters". From here, we would have specific links to lists of characters for specific projects. For starters, some of these types of lists already exist:

List of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic characters

List of Star Wars Legends characters

List of The Mandalorian characters

List of The Book of Boba Fett characters

In addition, List of Star Wars Rebels characters previously existed in mainspace before I boldly emptied it of any useful information and redirected it to the main Star Wars characters page. What if we fully committed to this idea and had lists for major blocks of Star Wars content: original trilogy, prequel trilogy, sequel trilogy, Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, etc... and if there are projects like Tales of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Andor that can't really justify their own character pages, these are the ones we can include as part of my proposed "Lists..." page. For ones here, it would largely function as only including those introduced in said projects. It would also eliminate the inconsistent and arbitrary tradition of having a separate droid list at Droid (Star Wars).

It definitely would. I would like to hear more feedback, but the lists could essentially be as follows:
  • Lists of Star Wars characters --> renamed central hub, would also contain characters introduced in projects before they have a justified separate list, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi or Solo
  • List of Star Wars original trilogy characters --> A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi
  • List of Star Wars prequel trilogy characters --> Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith
  • List of Star Wars sequel trilogy characters --> Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker
  • List of characters in animated Star Wars media --> Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi (this could maybe be broken down, but there is a lot of overlap)
  • List of Rogue One and Andor characters --> there is overlap here too
  • keep Mandalorian and Boba Fett lists

I think this is a pretty good idea, but as you said, lots of overlap. We could combine some such as Andor with Rogue One and Boba Fett with The Mandalorian to help. We'll have to see what others think.
I haven't been a member of this WikiProject for very long, but I don't think roll calls are very common across the board on Wikipedia. Hey there, thanks for the comment. I'm sure you already know about the Wookieepedia article on the Battle of Yavin, but Wikipedia has stronger notability guidelines, and unfortunately any expanded coverage of fictional Star Wars battles is unlikely to meet the requirements.
