Funny you'd say that[1], on the page for name change, because I was quite literally harassed into disappearing (and while disappearing, which is what you witnessed, and I'm sure I'll be harassed after disappearing, but the damage will be limited, after you change my name). There WAS no other option, given the circumstances. I've been on this board for over 2 years, and I contributed quite a bit. But these guys have nothing to do all day but troll and make problems, and if the administrators can't see that then fine. One suggested I appeal the the Wikimedia Foundation, and that's what I'm doing. I am reasonably sure they will see the point. Someone else can write the page; a government, the UN, some experts. I'll talk to people. This is a legitimate organization, and it (and I) has been the victim of a cluster-mob-gang-bang. The guy who started (and continued) the harassment, The Behnam, it is a troublemaker who has been on Wiki for about 4 months, he's been banned twice in that time, and gets in edit wars daily. He he followed me after I told him off on a woman's rights site (ok, I generalized his overfocus on that woman's rights site with sexim, and his nationality, which was uncalled for, but done is done). Then he started suggesting the government sponsored organization I founded get pulled down. I wasted about 3 days of my time, and I have much better things to waste it on! Thanks in advance for your help.

Taking my Name off the AfD page

Speaking of the above, I'm trying VERY HARD to get my name off this page here[2], and here[3]. These people consider my erasing my name to be vandalism. They don't respect the Right to Disappear, and claim it isn't a policy. Well, please can you erase my name. These people don't know the meaning of respect, and the administrators haven't heeded my vandalism reports when they put it back up. Thanks in advance.

User: Deletion.

Secretlondon, Since you can't change my user name, can you all delete my account then? Whoever that hacked into my account over the time, must've knowed me really well, to know my e-mail, and signing it to articles.

If you have a message regarding an edit I've actually made in the last year then feel free to leave me a message :)

Nice to see you editing again! Long may it continue... :-) -- ChrisO 18:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Last push for the Biography Assessment Drive

We've done great work so far on the WikiProject Biography Spring 2007 Assessment Drive, reducing the 135,345 backlog by 38,626 to 96,719 as of March 20, 2007. We have only 6,720 more to go to get below 90,000. That would be outstanding and any extra effort that you can offer in these last few days of the drive (which ends March 24, 2007) would be much appreciated. If you haven't already, you may want to load Outriggr's assessment script in your monobook.js. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on my talk page. -- Jreferee 23:20, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hilary Armstrong - voting record

I saw your question on the talkpage. I've removed the voting record as its a clear copyvio. In case you're interested the information appears to be from this website which allows people to find out information on the voting behaviour of any MP. WjBscribe 08:05, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Rating

Hi there! I noticed your rating on the Talk:Susannah Constantine article. I am going to change the rating to a B as the article is well sourced and provides states of her career in detail with sources. I looked at some other articles you rated start class and I think it's above that. Many thanks, please feel free to consult me on my talk page, happy editing (keep up your hard work). Censorware

Hello - Thank you for your comments. I understand your warning and have joined in the discussion on the censorware discussion page. I do want to discuss my larger concern about pushing a particular point of view under the guise of neutrality. In examining articles on Wikipedia addressing Internet filtering and Internet censorship, I became aware that user LegitimateAndEvenCompelling was systematically deleting the phrase "censorware" out of every article that contained the phrase, whether it was appropriate or not - his argument being that the redirect justified removing the phrase because the article no longer existed. (The most egregious example was an attempt to edit the phrase "censorware" from the entry on Peacefire, an anti-filtering group that consistently uses the phrase censorware and was so described in the article.) That same user is appears to be editing articles to advance his view that Internet filtering is benign and cannot be considered censorship - certainly a disputed point. His user page, and especially his own web site, reflect an obvious bias on this issue. (Note: I see he has edited his user page to remove the information that reflected his biases - the last edition with that information was dated March 19th.) I believe he is introducing a bias into these articles. If you have suggestions on how to address this issue, I would appreciate any suggestions. Anonamaus 04:35, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Anonamaus, to be taken seriously, you have to tell the truth. Peacefire's front page contained zero mentions of "censorware" and multiple and highlighted and linked mentions of "blocking software." Then, after you pointed out it is used in some subpages and you reworded your addition and you suggested I insert original research, I thereafter had no objections. So my edits were designed to reflect the facts as they are, and "blocking software" was the terminology used repeatedly on the Peacefire main page, not "censorware" as you claimed. I am perfectly within my rights as a wikipedian to follow wikipedia's policies and ensure others do so as well. So if that's the "most egregious example" you have, there's no problem at all.
Anonamaus, you are perfectly within your rights to pursue me even to third party's user pages such as this one to bad mouth me, even to the point of ridiculing my improvements by pointing out my older edits, but that only reflects poorly on your own character and trustworthiness and your own edits. People understand that newbies can get wiki muscles, but if your efforts to mislead people (including using sock puppets) and disparage others (mainly me) continue much longer, it will take all the longer before you are taken seriously.

--LegitimateAndEvenCompelling 01:31, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

My concerns about Legitimate and Even Compelling's editorial work are based upon a larger pattern of behavior reflected in LAEC's ongoing disputes with other Wikipedia editors over injecting improper POV about the ALA, internet filtering, and censorship, in line with the strong partisan views reflected on his webpages safelibraries.org and plan2succeed.org. (For example, see the dispute over the content of the Wikipedia entry on Looking For Alaska)
It is a fact that LAEC, an advocate for mandatory filtering, is actively engaged in editing pages related to intenet filtering and engaged in an ongoing effort to erase use of the phrase "censorware," as reflected by his user history. I would assume that Wikipedia would be concerned about the appearance of impropriety in having an advocate with very strong views on internet filtering and censorship edit related entries, especially given the Wikipedia community's desire to develop and maintain a reputation as an authoritative, non-partisan source of information.
If there is a better forum for raising these concerns, I would welcome direction. --- Anonamaus 14:59, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Username change request

I was wondering if I should go with another username since you ran into problems fixing my current username. If so, I will be more than happy to put up a request to have a new username at WP:CHU.--Ohioian 06:55, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I diden't expect there would be a problem with there already being another username Ohioan going back to December 10, 2005 with no edits and that sure wasen't me that did that!--Ohioian 07:03, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Up to you. You can usurp if you want. Secretlondon 22:01, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem!--Ohioian 01:38, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I just wanted to let you know that Ohioian has changed their request on WP:CHU and is now requesting a name which does not require usurpation. I made a note of this on CHU, but I just wanted to let you know so the changed request isn't overlooked, as its already been marked not done. They have also withdrawn their request to usurp the first requested name. --NickContact/Contribs 04:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Username change for Aviation Ace

I noticed you rejected Aviation Ace's request for a username change. It was actually on my recommendation that he applied for the change. I have recently adopted him via Wikipedia:Adoption, and he seems interested in contributing positively to the encyclopedia. The destructive edit you pointed out seems to be the only one he's made, as far as I can tell; he has actually reverted vandalism in a number of instances. I suggested the name change because he wanted to change his signature to "Amber Hawk." I thought it would be less confusing if the signature matched the username. If that's not a concern, then I guess this discussion is moot. Otherwise, is there a chance you would reconsider the name change? Thanks for your time. —PurpleRAIN 14:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your compassion

I just saw your comment you made on the notice board reguarding the issues with Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/International_Services_Trade_Information_Agency and User:RTV-Right to Vanish. I am glad someone else finally noticed a very stressed editor who is unfamiliar with policies. I dont htink she means the harm nor sees her edits as vandalism and I really think it will help if people took things less harsh and more calmly with her. Thank you for noticing and lending your cool voice to this issue, you are to be appauled. Russeasby 02:18, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Renames

Hi, I see you're active on the rename pages at the moment. Just wanted to draw your attention to the request at the top of the list at WP:CHU/U, Pill ← Pill-. Its been there nine days now and I see no obvious problem with the request. Has it just been missed out or is there an issue I'm missing? Cheers, WjBscribe 16:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I can't see it. My list starts at Zordon. Secretlondon 16:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry my bad- WP:CHU/U is the quick link to the usurpations page, not the ordinary renames... WjBscribe 16:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
No mine. I've been awake for hours. I'll look at it tomorrow if no-one does it first. I only really came on to deal with the un drama. Secretlondon 16:18, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
No prob, I'll let Nichalp know as well in case he has some time to get to it first. WjBscribe 16:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I moved TREYWiki ← Ttttrrrreeeeyyyyyy to WP:CHU/U so it gets archived with the completed usurpation requests on that page. Also, the Bot that does the archiving tends to get confused if the usurpation template is on the rename page (and vice versa). Hope thats OK. WjBscribe 12:00, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Fine! I didn't do it as a usurption as they were both the same user. I should probably put my note on their talk page though so they can work out what's happened.. Secretlondon 12:08, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
In the past that's still been called a usurpation as it involves two renames rather than just the one (but I agree usurpation doesn't really described what's going on). For one thing if we encourage people to make such requests at WP:CHU/U, the most useful template will be used for you to fulfill the request. Only difference is that there's no need to wait the 7 days. WjBscribe 12:11, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. I've copied the note to their (new) talk page to try and explain it to them. Some will always make the new account - it's the usurption process without the other party. Secretlondon 12:16, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Change of Username

Hi!

I would like to have my username changed. In the Norwegian Wikipedia, my name is H92. But when i registered here, H92 was already taken.
But if you take a look here: here, you can see that user H92 has no contributions. So then i wondered if you could change my username to "H92". Is that possible? Herman92 11:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Secretlondon!! Just wanted to know when the next batch of usernames will be changed (not to be pushy, or anything ;-)  ~ Steptrip 01:01, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Since my RFA didn't succeed, I'm guessing you don't mind if I wait now to have my accounts usurped? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 01:08, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand. You want to wait - or are you attacking me for not renaming you immediately? Secretlondon 07:25, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
No, I don't want to wait. But I'm not attacking you, and I don't know where you got that idea from. I just asked if you're okay with usurping me now since my RFA didn't pass. You had said on the CHU/U page that if it succeeded, I should wait. It didn't, so I'm requesting to be usurped now. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 11:20, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

So it's fine with you? If it is, can you perform the usurp whenever you can? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 11:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm uncomfortable to rename to a single letter and will look for precedents, unless anyone does it first. I'm doing the usual wikipedia procrastination, making coffee and random editing thing.. Secretlondon 11:35, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
If it helps the only precedent I'm aware of was the recent rename (from the logs):
  • 01:26, April 9, 2007 Rdsmith4 (Renamed the user "NYC JD" (who had 1,472 edits) to "Y")
For what its worth I don't really like the idea of single letter user names either, but I can't see anything in our username policy that says people can't have them... WjBscribe 12:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. That was the one I was going to look for. I'll rename - the single letter thing will be exhausted soon anyway.. Secretlondon 14:31, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Workers Voice article proposed for deletion

Hi. This article has an odd edit history -- it started out as a stub about a Turkish Communist newspaper and was later morphed into a semi-advert for a Newfoundland quarterly magazine with the same name. You made an edit to this article at one point in the past. I have proposed it for deletion since it does not demonstrate notability using any references. If you can find a reliable source to establish notability, feel free to do so and strip off the {{prod}} tag. --A. B. (talk) 18:02, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Workers Voice (Canada)

The article got deprodded and renamed but it still has notability issues, so I have nominated it to be deleted via AfD. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Workers Voice (Canada). --A. B. (talk) 18:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you made this move a few weeks back. The user's very extensive block history does not seem to have been moved at the same time. Is this normal? Shouldn't the block log move along with the name? Marskell 16:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree. I presume thats a bug. Secretlondon 20:07, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I've not got very good net access today. Maybe the technical village pump? Secretlondon 23:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Its not a bug. Block logs aren't moved during renames. Bureaucrats need to bear that in mind when considering renames of users with extensive block logs- though in the past it has been seen as a good idea to give users a fresh start. Thinking about it, its probably a good idea if clerks flag up accounts that have a significant block history though we haven't been asked to do so in the past. WjBscribe 23:28, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm not convinced that's not a bug. I think we probably need the users block log flagging up more obviously then and maybe a policy not to be so liberal renaming users with block histories. I wouldn't expect an admin to check to see if a user has been renamed (and to check the history of the previous account) before deciding how long a block to set. We almost rename on a whim now, and of course the more renaming we do they more people seem to want renaming... Secretlondon 00:20, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I'll check for block logs in future and flag it up so the crat who performs the rename is aware of the issues. I guess it depends on you definition of "bug". Logs have apparently never been moved through renames, though this does seem undesirable.
For an example outside block logs- look at the logs for R (talk · contribs). The "user creation log entry" is when the account "R" was created, not when Teckwiz created his original account. Block logs work the same way. Other logged action (page moves and admin actions) seems to be recredited when the accounts are renamed. I guess actions performed by the account are recredited, those they are the subject of are not. WjBscribe 00:35, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I would say the idea of a fresh start should be treated conservatively. We've got a user here who's a revert away from a year block per arbcomm. Admins need to know that dealing with him/her. Marskell 17:23, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Moving here so it gets a wider airing. Secretlondon 00:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Name change / "vanish"

Hi - thanks for changing my name; however, it wasn't the quite the result I had hoped for.

What I'd really like is for my former name to continue to be listed in page histories, etc., but as a red link. Having the new name replace the old in the histories defeats the purpose of the change. My legal name has been discovered and associated with my older user name. I'm trying to "vanish" and start over—is that not allowed? I thought I was following the instructions at Wikipedia:Right to vanish, but apparently not. Help? Thanks—Rentaferret 10:18, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

If you want your former name as a red link you just wanted your userpage and talk page deleted. Renaming reallocates all your old edits to your new username. This ensures that your old username (with its link to your real name) doesn't occur across the encyclopedia. What would you like me to do - I can try and rename you back if you want but I don't know whether the software will allow you to create an account with the new username Secretlondon 02:18, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
I can find another username besides this one; could the user/talk pages for both be deleted? If that's possible, "make it so"; I'll find some other name to use. Sorry to have been so dense, and thanks for your help.—Rentaferret talk 10:52, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

This editor appears upset that you refused to rename him [4]. Nonetheless his article doesn't seem to meet our inclusion standards to I've nominated it for deletion. Its being discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brian Szymanski if you wish to comment. WjBscribe 17:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

He's upset because I cropped it yesterday rather than leaving it as a vanity entry in userspace. He admits it's to get speaker bookings. Thanks for the heads-up re: the afd debate. I don't understand why people are saying userfy - we don't want this in the userspace either.. Secretlondon 02:11, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Template changes

Following you comment on the Renames talkpage I have added a link to the block log in Template:Renameuser (you can see it on the rename request at the bottom of the list) but its a bit clumsy. I've asked an editor with a bit more skill than me to change Template:Renameuser and Template:Usurp so that the account details are in the form (talk · contribs · logs · block log) rather than having a separate line for it. WjBscribe 02:58, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Ben has updated the templates so they know give the information in the form (talk · contribs · logs · block log). They look a bit sharper as well... WjBscribe 06:45, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Bots for spelling and grammar fixes

We do have human assisted Bots making such edits (esp. common spelling errors), e.g.

  • JoeBot - Finds commonly misspelled words and corrects them, user-assisted at all times. Pays special attention not to change regional spellings.
  • CmdrObot - Human-assisted. Spelling, punctuation, capitalisation fixes, compacting external URLs, miscellaneous tasks.

(from Wikipedia:Registered bots) WjBscribe 03:06, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Human assisted being the key point. We don't approve fully automated ones - these are just pattern matching against lists of commonly misspelled words afaik. There is no way in the world a grammar bot could work in this project (and the proposer has previously had complaints about their spelling and grammar). English syntax is far too complicated. I'm not convinced we should allow someone to rename their bot when we wouldn't approve it. It feels like we are endorsing it, as well as wasting everyone's time. Contributor's name in image titles: self-promotion?

Hi, Secretlondon. Because you're an editor who contributes images and also expressed an opinion here about the use of userpages for publicity, especially when it involves the use of editors' real names as WP usernames, I wonder if I could ask you to consider a question I posed here about the appropriateness of an image-contributor adding his real name, which is identical to his WP username, as part of a large number of image filenames in an apparent attempt to advertise his work as a photographer. When adding these images, the editor also adds his real name to the edit summaries to claim authorship of the image. As I mention in my post, one result is that Google searches on the editor's real name now return substantial numbers of hits linking to his Wikipedia images, and elsewhere on the web this editor invites people to visit his WP userpage to review his work as a photographer. I might also mention, as I neglected to in my post, that in each of the articles in which one of these images appears, the user gets free advertising on every mouse-hover over the image, since the alt-text displays the image filename, which of course contains his name. --Rrburke(talk) 02:57, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

A followup: my objection to this practice is that it seems to me contrary not only to WP:NOT#SOAP, but also WP:OWN#Do not sign what you do not own. --Rrburke(talk) 16:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm seeing "Undid revision 127347494 by" followed by the old username. Seriously, thanks for checking on this. Do you not see that as well?

No I see the new username. If you are using firefox holding ctrl whilst you refresh gets you a new copy. I don't know how to do a proper refresh using IE. Secretlondon 22:03, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Arrgh I see it now. How did you undo the edit? I don't think we can get rid of that. Secretlondon 22:06, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I've deleted the two revisions of Jesse Hutch in question to remove the problem. Given it was an edit that was undone straight away, they have no GDFL implications. It seems reasonable enough just to lose them. WjBscribe 23:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
True - thanks. Secretlondon 23:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! Much appreciated! Have a wonderful day!

Ryan ← RyGuy

I agree that this one prob should be done. We've tried all we can to look for the deleted edits but haven't found them. For all we know the warning ended up on the wrong page (e.g. some other user signed as Ryan - it was a personal attack warning so could have been to a talkpage). Unfortunately the user who left the message recently left the project. I think this one is within your discretion. If you're willing to do it, I think you should go ahead. WjBscribe 23:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually just looked again and seems it was creation of a nonsense page was well as a personal attack- not so clear cut. Still, it seems very unlikely that page will ever be undeleted. If it were, the edit will be attributed to "Ryan" not "Ryan (usurp)" as deleted edits are not reattributed. WjBscribe 23:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for renaming me from User:Han Amos to User:NHRHS2010. Many people (such as my parents and some people at my school) has bugged me by telling me that I should not be using my name (even though my name was inverted). Anyways, thanks for renaming me. NHRHS Class of 2010 21:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to flag up this usurpation request. Looks like one where someone mistakenly created the target account instead of asking for a rename. In any event, the target has agreed to the rename. WjBscribe 02:51, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Svsvtkag

Another user brought them do my attention. I blocked them based on the similarity between contributions. John Reaves (talk) 10:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Svsvtkag has the same editing pattern as Ygr1 (talk · contribs), who originally contributed under the name Wptfe (talk · contribs). (Ygr1's entry on the Community sanction noticeboard can be found here.) This can clearly be seen in the edits he's made to Claudette Colbert-related material. In fact, numerous Claudette Colbert film articles have only been edited by his sockpuppets. In addition, he also seems to come from a dynamic Japanese ip based off of the history of some articles that he's edited as an ip before logging in and editing under a username. --PhantomS 17:45, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Eleos ← EleosPrime

I thought I'd draw your attention to this usurpation request. It raises the issue of whether there are circumstances in which you are willing to usurp accounts that have some edits. Such usurpations have been performed in the past- usually in cases where the edits were very few, did not contribute content to the encyclopedia (ie. were vandalism or edits to userspace) and were some time ago. There has been some difference of opinion between crats on the matter. Dan feels such requests should be considered on a case-by-case basis, whereas Nichalp is unwilling to perform any such usurpations without a strong mandate from the community resulting from a centralised discussion.

If you do feel that the matter is within your discretion, in favour of filling the request is the fact that the target accounts' only edits were to a sandbox. The main factor against is that these edits were made in July 2006. Where such requests have been performed in the past, the edit(s) were usually older (i.e. 2+ years ago). Usurpation request

Hi, I hate to be a pest but I figured I'd bring up the question at least. I recently dropped a request on WP:USURP for what might be a slightly odd matter, regarding a bot that I can't log in to and have never made any edits with. I am figuring the easiest way around the problem (since I can't reset the password) is to simply usurp the username. I realise there is a 7 day waiting period before a username can be usurped in order to give the old owner a chance to reply, but I am hoping in this case it is fairly obvious I am the owner of said username and the waiting period can be bypassed? If not I understand, and I apologize for the request, just figured I would run it by you as I am eager to get back to working on the bot. Regards, Arkyan • (talk) 18:26, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Regarding SunTec article

Hi there, I am surprised to see the notability tag on the SunTec article. I added Suntec to wikipedia, since it is the first CMM level 5 billing software company in the world. Enough and authentic references have been put in place, which include Yahoo, MSN, The Hindu Businessline, Celent and Deloitte. Suntec is also the world leader in finance billing domain. It is recognised as one of fastest 50 companies in the Asis Pacific by Deloitte. You can find the links there. I request you to please remove the tag... Sreejith Kumar 17:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

:-) Even if the company is my employer, I dont think it is a bar in adding some content on that company on Wikipedia, with supported neutral third party authentic resources. Unnecessary parts from the article have been edited out already. And with the kinds of references I have given, I think this article deserves a place here. Sreejith Kumar 18:02, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Redirect deletion request

Thanks for completing my usurpation request. I have two user subpages that was redirected to my main user page before the usurpation, and they were moved along the usurpation. While I would like to keep my original user subpages (redirects to the new pages created during the usurpation process, but I have redirected them to my current main user page) because some of my older signatures link to them, I would want to delete User:Joshua/Esperanza and User:Joshua/Concordia because they don't serve any purposes. Fair use rationale for Image:Ftnlogo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Ftnlogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 21:34, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Ftnlogo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Ftnlogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:34, 17 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 21:34, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks from Cecropia

Thanks for the good wishes, SL. And thanks for pushing the button that enables me to push the button again! I have to start off slowly, not only do I have a lot to brush up on, my button-pushing finger has gotten really rusty!

User:WJBscribe suggested that I could be a help at Username changes, which I hadn't done before my "vacation." Can you give me any guidance on policy or method? Especially, how do we find out whether the requested change is permissible? Kind regards, Cecropia 04:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

The rules are unwritten which makes it hard. My rules of thumb are:
    • Yes to trivial renames (capitalisation etc) as the software will not allow people to create a new account if it is too similar to an already existing one. Many people don't know that usernames are capitalised and the first edit they make is to request that, say, a surname is capitalised too.
    • No to anyone covered by arbcomm restrictions, who is vandalising or generally being a pain.
    • No to people who are using their userpage as a vanity article and want to use their real name for promotion. (the idea is that someone googling for their name and wikipedia finds their "article")
    • No if you want to be renamed every 5 mins.
    • Yes unless there is a good reason for no.
    • Multiple "report a username" pages have sprung up which leads people to think their username is bad when it's either fine or borderline. If there is nothing wrong with their current name I tell them so. We have bitten newbies and some people with nothing better to do.
    • We are tougher with usurptions in general. They need to be an "Established user" which I take as a couple of months (but with a reasonable number of edits).
    • Some people will create the desired username - these we do as usurptions but don't wait the 7 days. They need to prove they have both accounts.
    • I will only rename bots to something ending in -bot. This is just me.
    • I try and be consistant as I believe it's fairer.
We have a problem with the fact that block logs don't move with usernames. Discussion is on the talk page for username changes.
The main pages are Wikipedia:Changing username and Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Wikipedia:Username policy is the policy.
Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names are both broken imo.

I've probably forgotten something ;) Feel free to ask or just muck in :) Secretlondon 05:52, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I haven't done vandal patrol in a couple of weeks so I haven't been paying attention, but I think this Usernames for Administrator Attention is new; I'm used to WP:AIV. Something has recently changed, I think, in Twinkle that is causing it to be a little buggy. I selected the spam option in it and it somehow also included in the report that it closely resembles the username of another user. Anyway, the user wasn't blocked? Since the article was definite spam and the username is the same as the article, isn't an indef block supposed to occur? Thanks, --Valley2city₪‽ 16:53, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

No actually the policy on role accounts is confused and they often get unblocked. See Wikipedia_talk:Username_policy#Promotional usernames vs. legitimate representatives. for an example. I've no experience of Twinkle so I can't comment. Secretlondon 17:00, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Strathclyde_p_1101.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Strathclyde_p_1101.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 21:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Bureaucrat chat

If you are partly back and your connection holds up you might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Gracenotes/Bureaucrat chat. I know Cecropia only didn't drop you you a note about it because you were on a break. I managed to get Warofdreams to do a few renames yesterday. Still, aren't you glad to know we can't really manage without you :-) ... WjBscribe 22:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

No! ;) I've set up this account for use on public computers. I can't do anything admin or 'crat related but I can comment.. Secretlondon's sockpuppet 22:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Wow and blocked already. I created User:WBJscribe to guard against impersonation after I realised in my RfA some people thought that was my name. It was blocked within seconds- good to know other admins are on the ball! I've changed the template on Secretlondon's sockpuppet's userpage to one for legitimate alternative accounts rather than suspicions of sockpuppetry. WjBscribe 23:05, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

This account is claiming to be your away from home account. I have blocked it as a possible impersonation. If it is really your account you need to demonstrate it please. Sorry if I am mistaken. (H) 22:44, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

As I've just said on your talk page I created the account whilst logged in as this one. As far as I know this means that you can see in the logs that it is legit. Secretlondon 22:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I should have checked the user creation logs. I reversed the block and undid the autoblock(which I should have disabled to begin with). (H) 22:46, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Secretlondon 22:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Weird. Maybe I did it wrong. Anyway I've tagged both my userpage and the other account to identify the link. Secretlondon 22:53, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

My privacy and ANI

Hello, I really understand your frustration. The issue is not content dispute but revealing my full name and other details when such information can potentially lead to my death. You may not be aware of the reality of Sri Lanka so it might look like an outlandish issue. No one can undersatnd all issues so as an admin just take a look at the situation. I pursue to have my personal information deleted from Wikipedia and it is done. There is a error in a sup page as I think just blanking it deletes the information but it does not. An admin in a content dispute finds that error and uses it to his advantage thus by publishing my full name and other details. Is that acceptable beahviour by an admin ? Taprobanus 23:34, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

If you want information removed from a deleted page you need to contact someone with oversight responsiblity. An admin alone can't do that. See WP:OVERSIGHT and Wikipedia:Requests_for_oversight. There are no such things as "senior admins". If you have a dispute with an admin you can use our dispute resolution procedures. A long rambling battle on AN/I doesn't work - and won't be read by anyone (to be honest). Secretlondon 06:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks as suggested I will next take it to rfc on user conduct. Thanks Taprobanus 00:53, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to draw your attention to this usurpation request at the bottom of the list. The target account has edits but had announced they were leaving the project. Someone who wanted the username emailed them to ask for it and the target account has surprisingly responded and consented.

I AM BARELY HERE - I CANNOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS.

I am new to editing Wikipedia, and you are the only editor that has been kind to me. I am editing James W. Holsinger biography, and would like to change the title to James W. Holsinger, Jr. since his father was also a general in the army. He also has a strange page associated (redirect?) called James Holsinger which does not update as quickly. Thank you for your help and apology about the picture, it was refreshing. --Maryrebecca 12:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, could you do me a favor and look at this user sooner rather than later? Question about the bot

I am almost done the rename detect/report bot. When there is no rename found in the log, do you want the bot to show a visible message stating that there is no logged renames, or should it only post when it finds one?

3 reasons I can think of posting anyways:

  1. So you know the bot has already examined that request.
  2. Even if I don't put a visible message, I will need to put a <!-- Comment --> so my bot can know it has already examined that request.
  3. Not all renames are shown in the log(I think this is the case)

The bot is looking good, it will check the rename log for change ever 20 minutes(adjustable), and check WP:USURP and WP:CHU every 5 minutes(also adjustable).

Here is an example of the output: User:H/sandbox. The unicode characters are screwed up in that example, but that will not be a problem when the bot is posting directly. Of course the sig will be that of the bot, not mine. See "Wikihermit" and "Beneaththelandslide" for examples of users who has a rename.

If there are multiple renames they will be shown as newest <- newer <- new <- old <- oldest etc... (H) 14:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

This looks great! I'd prefer it to say if it didn't find anything so I know that it's working. Otherwise you can't tell whether it's really a negative or not. Would it be possible to say when they were renamed? Also by whom? Secretlondon 16:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it can give the date, and the name of the person who performed the rename. No problem. I will start running it a testing capacity once it is approved. I have already requested approval. (H) 16:09, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, the bot will have to wait until I decide to use Wikipedia again[7]. (H) 16:48, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about all that drama, I am back and on track with the bot. I have approval now so the first test edit should be today. (H) 21:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

But you are a bureaucrat; you know everything!

The first part of the comment was {{usernameconcern}}, which I am quite certain you know perfectly well. The rest was free text. She seems to want to change her username, and, as it is presently the same as the name of a well known person, this is a reasonable and a positive request. --Anthony.bradbury 22:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I've done the request - I didn't know the text of usernameconcern. Thank you for telling me that's what it was. I'd like to suggest some amendments to it. Secretlondon 23:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Usernames

Hi; we are getting this evening a whole series of new, and of course unacceptable, usernames including the name "Jesus Christ", one of which you just blocked; I have blocked three earlier on. Are we looking at a sockpuppet attack? And if you think so, would a checkuser inspection of these names be of benefit? I have only been an admin for two months, please don't shout at me.--Anthony.bradbury 22:25, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I hope I never shout at anybody. I wonder whether we should block them with account creation blocked. This won't help of course if they are using a variety of IP addresses. Secretlondon 22:29, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the ursurpation...

Thanks so much for the usurpation. I kind of was scared for a moment, about the lack of bureaucrats showing up for the usurpation of others names. But, the situation is fixed now! :-) Thanks. Miranda 22:27, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

username

This a bureaucrat-type question. If I want to keep my username as it is, but change the colour (so that I can see more easily where I have !voted in RfA discussions), do I have to go through all the paraphenalia at WP:USERNAME, or can you just do it? If you can, red would be nice.--Anthony.bradbury 23:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

You change that yourself in your signature which is under 'my preferences'. I've no idea how to do it to be honest. It may well be HTML. However if you want to be User:Anthony.Bradbury or User:Tony.Bradbury (or whatever) then that's one for Wikipedia:Changing username. Secretlondon 23:37, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Heads up

Thought given this [8] you should know that Zucchini Marie has been blocked indefinitely for being a sock of an abusive sockpuppeteer [9]. I really don't understand people sometimes - she seemed quite sweet to me... Sigh, WjBscribe 05:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

It seems like they used renaming too. User:EndoExo seems to have been renamed to User:SweetCarmen. I hope it's not a recreation of one of the renamed accounts by someone else - there doesn't appear to be any info anywhere.. Secretlondon 00:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't see how User:Bhaedriel can be a sockpuppet of two different people..Secretlondon 00:23, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
User:EndoExo was re-created on the 12th June and blocked later that day for trolling. The original EndoExo was renamed to User:SweetCarmen on the 8th June. SweetCarmen and ZucchiniMarie appear to be friends from looking at their contributions. Secretlondon 00:23, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Renaming

I'm not familar with OTRS - how do I confirm that - can I? Is there anywhere that says you have OTRS access? (I'm trying to see how I would get some evidence). We generally have a policy that only the user can ask for a renaming to stop people being renamed maliciously. I understand this is a different issue - it's just one we've not had before.

Also please don't put Any in the template as it means we have to change it all manually. Not using the template would be more appropriate in this case. Thanks Secretlondon 22:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Anyone listed under the Meta page of the OTRS team will be happy to confirm the email for you: Meta:OTRS. Mindspillage is a well known member of the OTRS team and I'm sure she will be happy to confirm the rename request for you.
Oh, I'm sorry. I just didn't know what naming system you guys used in cases like this. Let me know and I'll change it to anything you want. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 17:26, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Courtesy note

Greetings. I want to let you know that I have indefblocked a user you have recently helped with a username change, User:Lanna9013, as a sockpuppet of banned User:Jessica Liao. I (and others) blocked a series of sock accounts Jessica was running last month; there is the same subject spread of edits, same aggressive pagemoves and same consistent use of three periods ... in between clauses in her edit summaries. The account you changed her name from was also a parody of an existing user with whom she was disputing her edits last month (which is what led me to look closer at her recent activities). If you feel I'm in error or have been too hasty, please let me know. Regards, --Fire Star 火星 22:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Secretlondon,

If a user made a request to change their username at WP:CHU, and the user was logged in when he/she was renamed, what would happen? Would the user be automatically logged out, or will he/she be logged in under the new username? Mystytopia 23:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for the barnstar. Good to feel appreciated. Cecropia has cleared most of the backlog but if you could have a look at a couple of case that would be great:

  • דוד ← DMTsurel. This usurpation request is one where the target account has consented to the rename.
  • ∆ ← Betacommand. We may need an opinion on the validity of the target username for that one as it was blocked for WP:U violation. If found OK, I guess we can just unblock it. Note that the account requesting the usurpation also has a block history (and is a former admin desysopped by ArbCom).

PS. The Bot that archives your talkpage can only archive threads with timestamps - which is why the content above remains...
Best wishes, WjBscribe 14:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

So as a result of the non-latin alphabet discussion they all want untypeable usernames? Is the new fashion after one letter names? FFS. Secretlondon 14:56, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Probably just to make us look more fondly upon one letter usernames, i.e. "well it might just be a random letter, but at least you can type it..." Some of these username changes remind me of that old expression said to children when they're pulling funny faces - "If the wind changes, you'll stay that way". I expect the novelty of these names will wear off and the editor in question will be surprised when the crats are relucant to rename them again... WjBscribe 15:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I can picture the effect of half the wiki being given an automated message from a bot owner they can't display or type.. Secretlondon 15:18, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

I've changed the template for simple renames so that, like the usurpation ones, there's only one link for the bureaucrat to perform the rename and it still works on secure login as well. Just so you aren't surprised that the "from secure login" option has gone - it should work fine for you anyway. Let me know if there are any problems. Cheers, WjBscribe 13:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Can-I Want More-re-release.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Can-I Want More-re-release.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ladytronsoftcorejukebox.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ladytronsoftcorejukebox.jpg. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 15:39, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Do you normally make serious accusations of racism against other editors whenever they disagree with you, or just this once? --lucid 18:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, there. I frequently lurk at RfCN, and also noticed your comment, diff'd above, in response to Lucid. My hope is that you did not intend for it to come across as it did, but it did come across pretty terribly. While I almost certainly would have agreed that the username in question should have been disallowed, I believe Lucid was acting in good faith to try and understand your reasoning and better express his concerns with the username block. I believe Lucid was concerned with what he believed may have been an unnecessary (or, at least, inadequately discussed) disallow. Your response that he was "sympathetic to their cause," in that context, sounds alarmingly as if you were alleging he had some appreciation for racial supremacy. Again, I hope and expect that was not what you intended, but I also ask you to please clarify your comment to eliminate any uncertainty. Thanks! Take care,   justen   08:44, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Secretlondon. Thanks for the note. I personally felt it wasn't a good idea, and I'm not sure I agree totally with that policy. I guess it's to do with the upcoming unified login. Anyway, feel free to rename him if you wish. You're more experienced than I as a bureaucrat, and I will not contest the rename. :-) --Deskana (banana) 17:03, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

If that's the consensus, then I think you're right, we'd better go with it. I guess really there's very little practical difference between the oe character and an accent, like you said. And if he reregisters User:L'oeuf after we rename him and puts redirects there, then we're all sorted. --Deskana (banana) 17:36, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Revised welcome

Hello! I am replying to a post you made on my talk page. Anyway, I've been toying with an original welcome template now that I joined the Welcoming Committee. Anyway, I'm posting below my current draft. Again, I wanted to be original and so I came up with the ten best/most helpful essays and guidelines I have so far come across on Wikipedia as the core of the welcome. Here is my revised version:

Hello, Secretlondon, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. We hope you like this website and decide to continue improving it. Here are twelve pages that you might find helpful:

Please also remember to avoid such un-encyclopedic and overused words in discussions on Wikipedia as “cruft,” “very,” and “indiscriminate.”

You are welcome to continue editing articles without logging in, but you may wish to create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits. For one thing, if you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.

In any case, we hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), as doing so will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 20:15, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Comment: Could you please provide me with feedback on the above revised welcome message as soon as posible? I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 20:15, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

You need to co-ordinate with the welcoming committee, not with me. I would concentrate on things you need to know to edit, not to be a wikipedia 'hack'. Secretlondon 20:59, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thank you for the reply. --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 15:15, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Got a sec?

If you have a sec, can you take a look at two of today's usurpation requests: WP:CHU/U#August 24, 2007? In both cases the user who wants to be renamed also owns the target account and has properly confirmed this so they can be done straight away. Cheers, WjBscribe 18:53, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Quick question

Hi Secretlondon, I noticed you active, and wanted to ask you something real quick. What happens when you see edits made by an administrator's account, and they are highly uncharacteristic of the person, and questionable, i.e. possibly not made by that admin, compromised account (?) etc.? If you have a second, I'd like your opinion on one such issue. Thanks! ArielGold 23:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

you flag it up - if you don't want to give me the name try IRC for speed. Have they deleted the main page yet ;) Secretlondon 23:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I'll explain, I just realize what a sensitive situation this is, and I did not want to make any accusations, or alarming assumptions, as neither edit was really destructive, other than load times. Admin is User:WikiLeon, and these two edits caught my eye during Recent Changes patrol, for their sheer size. [11] and [12]. Note I'm not accusing anything, I just was concerned, and a little confused why an administrator would make such edits. I'd appreciate any advice you can give, or if you can take care of the issue. Thanks! ArielGold 23:48, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
They are both in the sandbox, not in the article space. Testing the size of buffers? They appear to be testing something. Secretlondon 23:55, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Okie :) I know the sandbox is there for play, I just had never seen an admin "playing" in it, lol. I was not overly concerned, but it did strike me as a bit strange, so I thought I'd just ask someone who was around, for their opinion. I hope that I did not come across as accusatory or inappropriate. Thank you for taking the time to check it and answer! ArielGold 23:59, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
A lot of people have their own sandbox to play with in their userspace. If they do anything weird outisde the sandbox we should start to worry! Secretlondon 00:00, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
LOL yeah, let's just hope that we never have to see that! Thank you again! ArielGold 00:02, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:Kncyu38/VandalismStats, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User:Kncyu38/VandalismStats is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User:Kncyu38/VandalismStats, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Political based disputes vs NPA

So, by your deletion of an ANI thread, do you imply that it's okay to call people "not sane" based on their political opinins during content disputes? Please reply hereAnonimu 20:21, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Please note that this version of events is a distorted one. I merely made an offhand remark - never even used the phrase "not sane" - and explained at length that the blanket nature of my comment was ill-worded. I have promised to be more careful in the future, but have also explained why my patience with the system-gaming in which Anonimu was engaged at the time was wearing a bit thin. His utter failure to AGF is telling. Biruitorul 21:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Can you delete the page RS2007? I want to recreate the page RS2007 and added something. Thank you. RS1900 09:01, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. Now, I have redirect RS2007 to RS1900. There is a problem with renaming. I think I have lost some edits! RS1900 10:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
If that happens normally they end up being allocated to the old name, and the database sorts itself out in a few hours. You have no edits allocated to your old username so I hope you have them all. If not - it's a bug. Secretlondon 10:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. Can I become an admin? I have made over 1000 edits, created several articles, and never done anything wrong. How can I become an admin? RS1900 10:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Requests for adminship is where you apply but you won't have a hope yet - you don't have enough edits and you've only been here since July. If you want to be an admin get more involved in vandal fighting and other bits of admin that don't need admin powers. Get involved in things like the 'non-voting' that takes place. Basically see how stuff works, read lots and join in when you see stuff you can do. If you apply now you will just embarass youself tbh. Secretlondon 10:29, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I don't want to apply now. I would like to apply for adminship in future. Anyway, thank you for the reply. RS1900 12:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Fat Truckers

A tag has been placed on Fat Truckers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. WebHamster 11:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

RFCN vs UAA

Dear Secretlondon, thank you very much for blocking User:Pooopy. There is an ongoing debate at WT:UAA about what constitutes a WP:U violation when it's a reference to excretory functions, especially with the word 'pee'. Specifically, administrator User:Rspeer (see discussion on User talk:Rspeer) feels quite strongly that UAA is being used inappropriately since he considers non-profane excretory terminology to be borderline and immature, rather than a clear-cut violation. Another editor was admonished for bringing User:Snakepoop to UAA, so I reported the above user to RFCN to be safe, especially since I had been admonished by Rspeer for bringing a user entitled 'Pee in the pool' to UAA. But then you indicated that RFCN was an inappropriate venue for User:Pooopy. I understand both your and Rspeer's positions, I think they are both valid interpretations of policy. However, with this contradictory information, it makes it difficult to know what the appropriate place is for these types of reports. Any advice for this well-meaning editor would be most appreciated, either at a user talk page or WT:UAA, so that we can make the best and most accurate username reports possible. Thank you very much in advance. ~Eliz81(C) 22:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

A few questions

Firstly, when renaming, does the blocklog move? If not, are renames ever denied if the user has an extensive blocklog, which wouldn't move? If they do, are the ever denied because the user is problematic? I ask because of this request. And secondly, since you were there, how were the original bureaucrats chosen? I'm just curious. Thanks! i said 00:01, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

The block log doesn't move. With really dodgy ones we either don't rename, or block them for 1 second with a blocking message giving their old username and a ref to the old block log. This is so you can't pretend to be new and innocent and yet be one off a one year block. Renames can be denied for any reason - there is no right to a rename. We have guidelines on when we generally do it but it's up to our discretion. How were we chosen? The first five (I think) were appointed at the end of 2003 (I think). I was one of that batch. I'm not sure of the grounds - it was that we were seen as safe pairs of hands I think. Secretlondon 00:27, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
When I asked if they were ever denied, I mean in practice, or by you. You're one of the most active and experienced bureaucrats with renames, so I figured you were the best candidate to ask about it. And you were just chosen because you were a good and trusted contributer? Is there a page where this was discussed? Or were you just asked out of the blue? As for my other question, how do I do this? I'm not familiar with Bugzilla. i said 01:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Here's the diff of Secretlondon being asked [15] :) Eloquence asked 5 others, Angela, Stan Shebs, Tim Starling, TUF-KAT and MyRedDice the same question, and all except MyRedDice said yes. There's a bit on the history on WP:RFBS, and a link to NoSeptember's page about it. Majorly (talk) 01:59, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks. I couldn't find anywhere how the original users were chosen. Thanks. How did you find that link? I'd like to see the conversations for the other users. i said 02:27, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

hi secretlondon, just wanted to let you know i've filed a report here about an account that spoofs your username, I think it's the same user creating multiple accounts, who has already had an IP blocked that was responsible for a previous rash of admin-bashing usernames. if you've seen any other username accounts recently that are spoofing administrators, i encourage you to add them to the report. i notice you've blocked a large number of accounts that fit this description in the last few weeks. thanks! ~Eliz81(C) 21:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Renaming of COFS

I was wondering whether or not it would be prudent to block the new account (User:Shutterbug) for one second with a link back to the old blocklog. Well, back with yet another question/problem that has not fixed itself yet. :) It seems that the monobook.js file on this account has a redirect to the usurped account: user:Arakunem/monobook.js redirects to user:arakunem_(usurped)/monobook.js, and I can not edit the redirect out, thus can not access the file to make any changes. Hi Arakunem. I've deleted the redirect and moved your old monobook from User:Saturn 5/monobook.js to User:Arakunem/monobook.js. The software tends to have issues with people editing monobook that it recognises as belonging to a different account (except by admins). (1) Is that the monobook you want? User:Tweety21, sockpuppet, is back

You set up Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Tweety21 a couple of weeks ago. That was very helpful, and eventually resulted in her getting an indefinite block. Sorry to say this, but she's back with several usernames that are arguing both sides of some issues. I think her main goal is to disrupt Wikipedia. One of the usernames is User:Gayunicorn, which now has an indefinite block. Another username is User:Wiccawikka. She is harrassing users, primarily User:Precious Roy, who has opposed her on some issues in the past (and, ironically, also helped her edit some articles). Any help you could give those of us who have to deal with her would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ward3001 19:45, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Usurp

Um, actually the name of a religious figure IS NOT a "breach" of a username policy. To quote it, "Usernames that invoke the name of a religious figure or religion in a distasteful, disrespectful, or provocative way, or promote one religion over another. (Note that simple expressions of faith are allowed unless they are disruptive, but are discouraged.)" My intentions are none of these. I'm simply professing my "religion", not forcing it upon anyone else and it is not disrespectful in ANY way, distasteful or provocative. Please reconsider. Kevin 01:18, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Well I don't believe a genuine Buddhist would call themselves Buddha, it seems very arrogant. You are claiming that all your edits are those of an enlightened being? Secretlondon 01:48, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not referring to myself as one, silly. It's simply my religion...It is what I follow and I simply think that is the best name for me, as it illustrates what I believe and the fact that I choose it as my username doesn't mean that I am being arrogant. I'm not saying that all of my edits are those of an enlightened being, quite the contrary. As I said before it is a simple expression of faith, nothing more. I'm not shoving it down anyones throat. None of it is against the username policy. Kevin 01:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm offended by it as I believe you are claiming your writing to be that of a Buddha. Calling yourself a Buddha is NOT an expression of faith.Secretlondon 01:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Secretlondon is correct, you're essentially saying you are Buddha, it'd be like calling yourself JesusChrist. Now DevoutChristian would be a "simple expression" of faith.Rlevse 02:07, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I just told you I wasn't doing that, if I was then I would proclaim to the world, and sooner or later I would be a massive celebrity. Why are you being so uncivil? This is an expression of "faith", nothing more. What do you call an expression of "Faith", in a username? I certainly don't think users like "Catholic", "God Allmighty", "Jesus Saves", "Shiva Indis", "Gautama Buddha", "Ganesha", "Vishnu Prasad", "Allah-u-Akbar", "Moses 2007", or "MessiahAndrw" are any better than I am. These don't offend you? They might offend me because they seem to be claiming that they themselves are a prophet, god or a messiah. Do they offend you? If they don't, I can say that its your own personal opinion of your judgement of my requested user name and frankly thats not what the user name policy calls for. If it does, than why do these accounts still exist? Why hasn't someone do anything to them? Some of them, like me, are a simple expression of faith while some of them are, as you say, "offensive". Who are you to say what is and isn't an expression of "faith"? Kevin 02:21, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Reading what you wrote in the usurp web page makes me want to clarify a few things. When I put breach with quotations I didn't mean to point out that you had a typo, honestly I didn't notice there was one in the first place . I don't see why my username before has anything to do with it, I admit its a little too much of a current event fad anyway, but it doesn't have any aspect of Tanha. Kevin 12:39, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

If you think any of those are offensive, could you at least give me a hint of what wouldn't be offensive? Thanks, Kevin 22:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

It's generally recommended to avoid names with religious and/or political overtones. the username policy says "Usernames that invoke the name of a religious figure or religion in a distasteful, disrespectful, or provocative way, or promote one religion over another. (Note that simple expressions of faith are allowed unless they are disruptive, but are discouraged.)"

As you are discouraged from making usernames that are expressions of faith I don't see much point in making a Buddhist whitelist for you. Why not come up with something unique? Secretlondon 22:33, 17 October 2007 (UTC) Alright Kevin 22:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't be so testy. I was just pointing out the policy rules. Kevin 00:26, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Reply to Lay off It

I would like to say this: What? No I wasn't! (Well with the blocking part.) But, I will try not to bite newbies (I admit that I have a real problem with that). Sometimes, I get real mad at people trying to promote stuff, I mean, some other day, I remember this person saying "Know English" to some IP, so I told him not to personally attack them. Can you help me limit my biting, because when I get really mad at Vandalism and other stuff, I start going crazy "biting" people. I will try to stop that, but, I know that I can't block people, but, I'm just giving them a perspective. I apologize for my disruptive edits and any inconvenience I may have caused you. Thank you for notifying me and have a nice day. I will then let User:Airbus A350 know not to change the username. --Goodshoped35110s 01:40, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

And I would also like to say this:

I know I can't block people, in fact, I don't even remember saying I can block people. Check my contribs by clicking 511 on my sig. Although I did say something else about blocking, but yeah... and also please do not personally attack me by saying this:

"I suggest you lay off the username stuff until you get a better idea of how stuff works. If you continue to be rude to newbies and pretend that you can block people - then someone will be blocked - YOU!"

I do not mean that you are going to be blocked, just giving you an example of what you said...

As I said, I apologize for any disruption and/or inconvenience that I have caused. Thank you and have a nice day.

You have told several people that they will be blocked - they do not know that you cannot block people. You are just going on your interpretation of the rules. They think they are in trouble and have to do things when they don't. You can tell someone that they've been reported (and rejected in most of your username reports), but you are actually making newbies request username changes because they think you speak with authority. Your comments to User_talk:MsKellyRowland were unacceptable - you didn't just add a spam template - you were chatty and rubbing it in. I suspect they are just an obsessive fan as they already have a real article and have no need for userpage spam. Basically you are being rude and abrasive and speaking with an authority you don't have. You need to not only read the policies but also see how we implement them. Using templates is recommended if you cannot use polite language. Secretlondon 01:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I know that. I'm thinking of taking a Wikibreak, but I occasionally welcome IP users in Good faith (which I try to follow) and help those who are in need. Now about the spam template, it is a promotion, but I didn't know about the rubbing-it-in part. I don't even know how to use those templates because it is a little bit confusion, so I created my own templates. Most of them have been deleted by either me or the others, but I try to assume good faith. If you can, you can kind-of coach me, and I will take a break from warning users, and just welcome IP addresses and give help to those who need help. --Goodshoped35110s 02:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. You were rejected before as you had never actually edited the encyclopedia, just your user pages. You've also got a pretty impressive block log. I think I was right not to rename you, BUT, I understand you are only 11 and if you start behaving better then I'll consider it in a few months. Okay? Is that fair? Blatantly inappropriete usernames

My understanding in the username policy is that if an account name is totally unacceptable(such as accounts that promote racism), it can be blocked on sight regardless of the amount of edits it made. Now, I've learned that many borderline usernames and some offensive names wouldn't get blocked if they never edited. I have stared a discussion at WT:U#Blatantly inappropriete usernames so that I will know if blatant violations should be left alone if they never edited.--U.S.A.U.S.A.U.S.A. 03:31, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Anyway, per your comment and per the discussion at WT:U, I think it would be a good idea to add a note on the header page not to report old accounts that have never edited. It's up to you.--U.S.A.U.S.A.U.S.A. 21:07, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, they were supposed to be jokes. The sock puppet tags were part of the joke, which I guess wasn't that funny after all. I was also going to use them to edit my user page since I've been editing a lot lately, and I thought it good just to have an alternate account if needed. Could you either show me where they are tagged for deletion or, possibly, since you're a bureaucrat, could you just change one of them to "Sockpuppet of Okiefromokla" or something, and let me know? This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Péma Tönyö Nyinjé, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Tai Situpa. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 23:49, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm working on it - I just moved contents.. Secretlondon 23:50, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about the apparently false alarm; but most cut-and-paste moves are errors so the bot flags them for human attention. When the move is legitimate (like yours), just removing the tag like you did is the correct thing to do. There's not much point in removing the entry from WP:SCV, it'll get cleaned up as we traverse the page anyways. Happy editing! — Coren (talk) 00:36, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

You seem, to be active a lot at WP:CHU, which, is where we wind up sending some users, from WP:ACC. There was recently (not VERY recently, but, recently. I keep getting sidetracked) a thread at Wikipedia_talk:Request_an_account#Sending_User:Joe_dorfman_to_WP:CHU_if_they_have_zero_edits_and_want_User:Joe_Dorfman_instead, that, you might be interested in commenting on, as it involves WP:CHU.

Unapproved bots

I deleted the user pages as pure vandalism. It's quite unlikely that User:JoanneB is actually running the bots, so we shouldn't keep that template around with her unsullied name on it. Blank the user page, at the very least, though I don't see the point of keeping old reversions to revert to around, like User:KalsigBot already did. -- RG2 10:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Possible help from you

Hello, Secretlondon, I have recently started a page on Absolute Anarchy (Instead of Absolute Monarchy where ruler has too much power, the people have too much power. This is indeed a type of absolute) and I would like to ask for your help on seeing what you can do for it. All I have is one sentence, and it defines the term Absolute Anarchy well. If you could possibly find time too add more too it, I would be deeply appreciative. I only started this article as it may help someone in the later future, of course. If you could add more to it, that would be great, as I am currently working on a project about Absolute Anarchy. Thanks! Maltese Dragon (talk) 22:32, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you tell me what these have been deleted? If there's a pressing privacy reason, fine. If not please consider undeleting them. The 'rtv' does not allow for the routine deletion of talk pages on demand (see the discussion on AN). As I say, I'm not going to rush to undelete, as there may be a concrete privacy reason for your action. Thanks.--Docg 03:07, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

OK, I've been briefed. The deletions are absolutely fine by me. But, if talk pages are deleted in such extraordinary circumstances can you please not use "rtv" as the deletion reason. As has been shown in the AN thread[17] rtv, does NOT justify deletion of usertalk pages on request - meta explicitly states that. Usertalk should only be deleted in exceptional circumstances - and I'm encourage admins deleting under such circumstances to use a deletion summary like "special circumstances - e-mail me if you need details". That way we don't give the impression of deletion on demand, but neither do we end up with some idiot like me undeleting or sending the deletion to DRV in cases that there are exceptionally good reasons for deletion.--Docg 17:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

From Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrats

Whether we'd resysop a different account would depend on the circumstances (and the bureaucrat).

  • Okay, less than hypothetically, if an admin revoked admin status and rejoined Wikipedia with an alternate account in order to regain anonymity due to the privacy concerns, would that be acceptable. And how would the alternate account holder prove it was the self-same admin? Hiding T 14:16, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
This has happened several times and people look out for new accounts that have been mysteriously sysopped. It's not a good way of remaining anonymous. Secretlondon (talk) 14:24, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Well as a mimimum you'd have to be able to prove conclusively that you were you. However if you have a stalker then they may well be looking out for a random new account to get sysopped. If you do IRC (I don't) then having the same freenode login may count, if you can find a crat on there. Secretlondon (talk) 22:20, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

I see you have blocked BicesterCommunityCollege for partial edits to Bicester Community College - well done. Can anything be done about user:213.105.192.81, the school i.p., who preceded BicesterCommunityCollege (with this sort of edit)? We don't want your band on Wikipedia, unless you meet the criteria in WP:MUSIC. If you do then someone unconnected will probably write the article. We are not free advertising. Secretlondon (talk) 19:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Country usernames

It's a bit of a slppery slope though when you think about it. Some countries could be seen, when used as a username, as a bit contentious. I find it interesting that users People's Republic of China (talk · contribs), Ulster (talk · contribs) and Republic of Macedonia (talk · contribs) were all created but never used and Macedonia (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was blocked but not for the username. However Sealand (talk · contribs) has made several valid edits but not been blocked. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:30, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping the backlog down at WP:CHU, however, I think you may have missed this request here, as its older than some of the others you tagged with {{done}}/{{not done}}. Cheers, Qst 21:24, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DDR Mark Vorderseite 1Mark kl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DDR Mark Vorderseite 1Mark kl.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:04, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

RFA

Dear Secretlondon, my sincere thanks for your participation in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 17:05, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Edits 24th Dec to Bradford Grammar School

In fact, the school has just purchased a new sofa for the sixth for centre, and if mention of the cafe is acceptable when discussing sixth form life, I don't see why mentioning the sofa is not? Fair use rationale for Image:Sunkids.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sunkids.png.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 19:55, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hot Chip-Over and over-cover-2nd-uk-release.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Hot Chip-Over and over-cover-2nd-uk-release.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:17, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Removal of misleading photo

Hi, I've removed your photo Image:St pancras water tower.jpg from St Pancras Cruising Club. There is an old Victorian Gothic tower, officially called the Water Point but often referred to as the water tower, within the club boundary. The modern functional tower you have photographed is nearby, but much closer to St Pancras hospital. Would it be possible for you to change the description on the Commons licence? The title could be made less ambiguous, but the text as it stands is misleading. Thanks. BrainyBabe (talk) 16:48, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London

Wikimedia UK logo
Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Re-evaluation of bureaucrat status

Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal, which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat. The discussion centres around whether bureaucrat status should be considered a 'lifetime' appointment like administrators, or whether bureaucrats should be subject to periodic reconfirmation in a manner more like the stewards. There is also consideration for a separate re-evaluation of the status of those bureaucrats who were promoted in the early days of wikipedia, when the standards at RfB were significantly lower than they are currently, and whether such users still retain the explicit trust of the community.

As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:

  • Do you consider yourself to still be a wikipedia bureaucrat in spirit, or is the flag essentially just a legacy? Do you have any intention of ever returning to being an 'active' bureaucrat?
  • What do you consider your position to be in terms of your 'mandate' from the community, in comparison to more recently-promoted bureaucrats?
  • Would you be amenable to surrendering the bureaucrat flag, or participating in a reconfirmation RfB, if asked to do so? In what circumstances would you consider such an action?

Your thoughts on these, and any other comments you may have, would be very much appreciated. We have set up a section on the discussion page, Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal#'Crat comments, for such responses.

Many thanks in advance, Happymelon 00:00, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Radio Amateurs Emergency Network requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Your contribution on the discussion page of Agenda21

... quite impressive all the stars and rewards you earned on the wikipedia ... I've been a nearly first year contributer myself ... but never had the priviledge of receiving any of them, although I talk a lot about wikipedia and try to contribute as much as possible. Here's what I want to contribute to your comment... I hope this is the way to do that ... should my comment go here or should my comment go on the dicussion page of Agenda21 under your commment ? It was as if your comment longed for an answer/reply. Please let me know, I've now pasted them here and there for your convenience.

Yes of course Agenda21 is still talked about ... during the yearly open doors of the EU's Directorate General of Environment = Greenweek, you can see what the results are and actions undertaken by local governments and "major groups" under their local Agenda21. I think in e.g. Belgium about every region and town has a local Agenda21. As a "Kyoto Protocol" Consultant, I'm specialised in Chapter IV, more specifically on how to bring "Low Carbon Economy" money to "the people". It was thanks to embedding my knowledge in the blueprint framework offered Agenda21, that I was able to make more holistic/coherent lectures and workshops on "How to increase welfare, attract financiers, develop business, implement eco-innovations, thanks to the "Kyoto Protocol" and the link between Agenda21, CO2e-Certificates, Green-, White- and future Certificates, new money's and the impact on Strategical Planning in your company and organisation." Even as an individual, I find that Agenda21 gives a blueprint for personal life, helping in sifting through info, deciding what is important and not, understanding at what level you are working in a private life situation with kids, in a working situation to make money and in a strategical management session related to time-frames in which effects must be visible for the peers you are working with at that stage and being able to say/contribute something meaningfull to just about every group-even individual, organisation or company I come in contact with. Agenda21 = God, or just about ... :) --SvenAERTS (talk) 06:43, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Back in 2005, you argued to keep this article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jody Dunn. However, Wikipedia has changed since then, and I believe she no longer meets our standards for inclusion. I have re-nominated the article for deletion; your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jody Dunn (2nd nomination). Robofish (talk) 23:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

remaming?

Hi, I have come across this user and I noticed he had previously been indefinatly blocked and you moved his page and remamed the account, here could you enlighten me a little as to what happened and are all the users edits available to view? Off2riorob (talk) 19:26, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Can't remember. I used to spend hours a day doing trivial renaming so I don't do any anymore. My time is too precious. Secretlondon (talk) 22:17, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Entrism and Canadian Grantites

Can you look at Talk:Fightback (Canada)? There is a dispute over whether the Canadian IMT (Grant/Woods) affiliate, Fightback, should be described as practicing entrism in the New Democratic Party of Canada. One editor, the main author of the article, insists that there must be a source that specifically says Fightback is entrist however the group is quite small and hasn't generated enough press or academic interest for such a source to come into existence. However, the fact that they are an IMT affiliate and are members of a social democratic party and the fact that the IMT is credibly sourced as being entrist should make this a no-brainer. I mean entrism is the IMT's whole modus operandi and I think the editor who is objecting to this is being too cute by half. 67.70.121.29 (talk) 14:01, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Secretlondon! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 26 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 941 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

The article Brightside (software) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals,

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Oo7565 (talk) 19:27, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

I started an article on a UK parliamentary constituency called Brightside. I am not interested in the software. Secretlondon (talk) 21:08, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Blackfriars bridge.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Blackfriars bridge.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Southwark Council election, 1994, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Southwark Council election, 1998. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:39, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I marked these edits as unsigned by hand, so you can rest assured that this is no bot work.

That's not my concern. It was mass mailings of wikiproject newsletters by bot I was complaining about!

London Wikimedia Fundraiser

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Monochrome BBS

I've gone through and rewritten the article at User:Quaestor23/Monochrome_BBS which you've previously expressed an interest in.

Having looked around at other BBS's in preparation for a conference presentation, I am still convinced that this is one of the only BBS's still active and used daily. I've found some old articles that Mention mono, including one from .net in 1994 which clearly show that Mono was significant and unusual then. Other sources for the content are the Mono help files, on the web and on the BBS itself - does that count as original research?

I am having trouble finding a suitable licensing mode for the screenshot to satisfy Wikipedia, please add any comments / suggestions here: Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Monochrome_BBS.png
