Revision as of 15:38, 11 April 2010

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    2010 Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

7 day semi-protection - IPs and newly registered users are beginning to push conspiracy theories/terrorism charges and "Putin murdered the Poles" nonsenese. --noclador (talk) 15:38, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major football rivalries (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Perminant Semi-protection Vandalism this page is a persistant target for unautoconfirmed users and unidentified IP vandals and I'm having to revert vandalism on a regular basis and since it keeps coming, semi-protection seems like the only feasible option. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 09:53, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, interesting. Some appears to be creative writing and embellishment rather than straight out vandalism. this edit is interesting - is it correcting incorrect figures or introducing subtle vandalism? If the latter, it makes for a good case for semi, if not then shows helpful IP edits which suggests semi'ing might not be such a good idea. Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:12, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well after looking at the separate derby page and comparing, it leads me to suspect that this particular addition may be vandalism from a possible supporter of Southampton as it seems to make Portsmouth look like they have a worse record. Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Cherry blossom (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection, This article does not see vandal edits very often, it's been protected since January... should probably come off by now. — raeky (talk | edits) 13:47, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection, This is another of User:Dbachmann protections. This didn't deserve a indefinate block. It was a first time block. This was not even reported on this page. He was also an editor on this page. I am now looking through User:Dbachmann log to see what else he has block and see if they deserved a block. . Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 20:30, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Please ask Dab first, he may have had a good reason for indef. GedUK  20:49, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Never does a first time protection constitute an indefinite protection. Both these were first time blocks. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia everyone can edit and protecting a page indefinitely the first time just isn't right for an encyclopedia that goes by that slogan.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 02:05, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the history this all appears to have been done by a single IP, after they were engaged on their talk page they appeared to stop. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 09:55, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Rigveda (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection, This was protected a year ago due to anon POV. It wasn't due to vandalism. I think a year worth of protection is overboard. Plus the user that protected is one of the pages main contributors. That was also the first time it was protected. This also makes me wonder what made the admin User:Dbachmann to protect it indefinitely for a first time protection. . Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 20:17, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This page is a pov magnet. Dougweller (talk) 05:19, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the history the primary series of vandalism which resulted in the pages protection was conducted by a single IP address - 213.29.233.199, who wasn't even given a single warning before the page was semi-protected indefinitely. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 09:51, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    Of note there was another main vandal - though they were auto-confirmed. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 11:57, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Semi-protect. This is an article gets constant vandalized by ips that want to promote their websites. I don't think that this will stop since this a first stop for wikipedians. I don't want a semi-protection by time: more I want a semi-protection for all time: the ip edit nearly all got reverted and in last time no changes happened to the article except of reverted! mabdul 01:15, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined for now - this request has been getting bounced around and skipped for some time now - I'm going to go ahead and decline it for now. One of the main edit warriors was just blocked for a week, the article has quieted down a bit in the last day or so, and many of the edits look constructive. However - I understand that the article's history is a bit insane. If the problems come up again, I'd have no problem with someone re-listing it at that time. Semi-protect. This is an editor indefinitely blocked for sock-puppeteering and racist vandalism, and he persists in returning with infinitely variable IP addresses to remove the sockpuppet notice from his userpage.
