- June 28-29 – Two University of the Philippines in Los Baños Laguna students Aileen Sarmienta and Allan Gomez were abducted and killed by the men of Calauan Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
- July 2 – 266 people were killed after a pagoda sank in Bocaue, Bulacan due to overloading of the boat.
- September 11 – Ferdinand Marcos remains was laid to rest in Batac, Ilocos Norte.
- September 24 – Biggest corruption case in the Philippines. Former first lady Imelda Marcos was convicted for the first time of corruption and sentenced to 24 years in prison.[1]
- November 27 – SM City Cebu, the first SM Supermall in Visayas region and the fourth SM Supermall in the Philippines was opened.
