Quickie Spanish translation?

Got your name from Wikipedia:Translators available and see you are still editing often. Want to use below but some debate over the exact meaning from a mix of personal translation(s) and Translate.google. Could you help? (It's in Spanish from Spain, perhaps Catalan dialect.) From: Jesús Huerta de Soto website (Curriculum Vitae, Labor Editorial)

Hello. I see you are listed as a Spanish-to-English translator. Would you please consider translating this page? Rollback

Hi JTtheOG. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 22:56, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will make sure to use it carefully. Hopefully we can all squash vandalism together. JTtheOG (talk) 03:32, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Translation request

Hello. I see you're listed at Wikipedia:Translators available as being willing to translate from Spanish to English. I have a problem in that I'm unable to understand a question over at es:Wikipedia:Consultas which runs:

Origen del idioma ingles
Porque nos salen mas vellos a los hombres que a las mujeres.

What on earth is this guy on about? I try to answer questions over there, despite my complete ignorance of the language, because no-one else will, but occasionally Google Translate leaves me unable to get even the gist of the question, as here. Hope you don't mind me bothering you. --Antiquary (talk) 12:29, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball articles

Hi. Mate im way more than you in basketball articles, and im little bit longer than you on wiki. There is no need to add countries, they just make mess in infobox. In 2015 almost all basketball clubs have their own articles so adding countries doesnt make sense at all. Also in article of Justin Robinson everything is in text, every country is already mentioned. There is no consensus about adding countries, and that players that you mentioned are NBA players so i will not delete countries, but for most European players and Americans in Europe we dont have countries in infobox.--Bozalegenda (talk) 14:50, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I saw that you started patroling Margaret Weis bibliography, would you be so kind to point out other authors, within the following genres: space opera, military science fiction, historical fiction and high fantasy - that need redirection and creation of new bibliographic pages so that articles are more synthesized? Because as you can see R.A. Salvatore, Margaret Weis, Tad Williams and Terry Brooks' bibliographies needed to be created and redirected to more appropriate new pages, because these respective authors' pages were getting out of proportion.

Kindest regards: The Mad Hatter (talk)
A few more suggestions: David Drake, Lois McMaster Bujold, John Ringo, Tanya Huff, Roland J. Green, John G. Hemry, Christopher Anvil, F. Van Wyck Mason, Arnab Jan Deka, Yasushi Inoue, Brian K. Hi JT - just a thought on the boxing articles created by Bennyaha - would it better to advise him to write on article on the NZ boxing organisation and have the various boxers mentioned within that article. I am presuming the organisation meets the guidelines for organisations. NealeFamily (talk) 22:35, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah and maybe he could add short bios for each one, specifically the champions. Good idea JTtheOG (talk) 01:01, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As much as i would love to make articles about these organisations, they are extremely anal about this sort of things and if they dont like it they have tantrums about not liking it. The organisations are run either by really old men that dont keep up with the present or inexperience people that like to threat with legal proceedings because they have the money to do so --Bennyaha (talk) 00:36, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JT - can I ask for a small favour - I am trying to assist Bennyaha get through the minefield of Wiki rules. He is new to them and the etiquette from his comment above. What I would like is if you could let me know if you come across any non-compliant articles before deleting them. My plan is to transfer them to his sandpit, and develop an approach that is compliant. To do this I will need assistance from editors who are familiar with boxing - I am not. If you take a look at his talk page you will see my discussion with him. Feel free to comment back to me if you have any suggestions. NealeFamily (talk) 09:42, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@User:NealeFamily @User:Bennyaha Here is my personal opinion on each of his articles:

His articles are not bad. They are actually above average with plenty of good information. If only he could help us make articles about non-New Zealand boxers too... He could be a great addition to the team. JTtheOG (talk) 18:20, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks JT - I will encourage him to join the team - NealeFamily (talk) 22:18, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Wikipedia:Translators available list.

Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 06:08, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Belarusian Cup

Hi! Just wanted to make a quick notice - I'm planning to expand Belarusian Cup articles for each season in the near future (including the ones that are currently red links) with more data (similar to the recent seasons), so you can save your time for something else, if you were planning to create other seasons yourself. Otherwise, good job! -BlameRuiner (talk) 08:36, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BlameRuiner: Sounds great! Do you suggest I help by creating any other country's cup seasons? JTtheOG (talk) 17:40, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As for other countries, you may do what you wish. I know there's a lot of redlinked and stub-class competition articles (cups, leagues, whatever) out there, but I don't really have time to work on them, my hands are full with Belarus stuff as it is (as you can probably guess by my contributions history). -BlameRuiner (talk) 07:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Key Loop page AfD

Hi, I saw the template you posted on the Key Loop Highway page, but I would argue that the page should, if not speedy, be put up for AfD. I'm from that area and no one calls it "the Key Loop." Also the piece is rife with misinformation, for instance there's only a single tunnel on US 1 in Florida, and it's in Fort Lauderdale, miles north. The information, such as it is, also just duplicates info from Seven Mile Bridge, Overseas Highway, and U.S._Route_1_in_Florida#The_Keys. Wanted to bring this to your attention before I AfD'ed it but IMO it has no place here. JamesG5 (talk) 19:28, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesG5: I actually didn't place any templates; I simply rearranged them. Either way, I'm fine with the AfD if the article is, in fact, full of misinformation. Good eye. JTtheOG (talk) 21:30, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Wearehere1995: I tagged your page because your page looked very much like an advertisement. That's why it could be what we call "Conflict of Interest (COI)" editing. Read more about this here. Although COI editing is strongly discouraged, you can still try to create an unbiased encyclopedic entry about the organization. First, though, you have to make sure that it receives "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The guidelines for notability are detailed here. Feel free to ask me anything else. JTtheOG (talk) 05:07, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello JTtheOG. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3), or significance (CSD A7) moments after they are created, as you did at Sh. Abdullah Rashid. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Use of Not English template

Hi, I noticed that on the page Normaisarah binti Mohamad you missed the final step of listing it at WP:PNT, where the article would come to the attention of people capable of translating it. In this case I have not listed it there because, on the basis of the google translation, it looks like a non-notable autobiography. So I have nominated it for A' speedy deletion instead. It is questionable if the subject of the article is notable enough to warrant an article of his own. You should add more rindependent news articles from reliable sources that go more into why he is notable. See Wikipedia:Notability. JTtheOG (talk) 02:39, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note

You might want to give a new page a few minutes more than a half hour before tagging it as an orphan - especially when a search would indicate it is easy to de-orphan and the creating editor is still actively working on the page...You tagged my page 2 minutes after I posted that I was doing clean up on it and about 30 minutes after it was initially created. It caused an edit conflict which can be irritating especially for a tag that about 10 minutes later would not apply. So - thanks for looking out for Wikipedia but perhaps investigate before tagging? ☕ Antiqueight haver 22:08, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jenna Fife

What is wrong with the Jenna Fife page? There are at least 5 references, including UEFA.com and the Hibernian ladies own official page (Pitchero). Why is it in discussion for deletion? Where can I find that discussion? Funafuti1978 (talk) 06:47, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Funafuti1978: Hi. Wikipedia's General notability guidelines states that the topic must receive "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject," significant coverage being something that "addresses the topic directly and in detail." Additionally, Wikipedia's notability guidelines for football players recommend the subject have at least one cap in a professional league or in an international game. The SWPL, while Scotland's top league, is not currently on the list of Fully professional leagues, and she has not made an international appearance. If you can find a reference that says that the SWPL is fully professional, we can add it to the list and Jenna Fife would be considered notable (if she also passes the general notability guidelines). If you can find any less-than-positive info out there to cite I will be happy to include it. I was not able to find any. There may be some comments that reflect a summary impression of the content of the cited material, rather than specific cites. Is this not permissible? I have never seen it as an issue before. Also, as far as notability, I can see that your interests do not lie in this area, so I wonder what criteria you are looking for to consider notable in this field? This article is well-referenced and linked to other Wikipedia pages. As far as categorizations, I have added three of the most obvious ones, I am sure there are more that can be added but I am not very familiar with available categories so I left that to someone who has more knowledge there. Please leave some specifics about your issues on the article's Talk page so I can address them, otherwise the tags do not seem appropriate. Thank you. Riverpa (talk) 22:55, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Riverpa: Hi! :) Thank you for your articulate inquiry. It wasn't about any possible negative information out there. I just thought that there was a lot of intricate information (especially about her personal life) in the article that suggested that the creator may have a Conflict of Interest. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean there needs to be more citations to confirm it. Condensing information from sources is encouraged, and is probably where all the unsourced material came from. I will remove that tag, and as for the categories, I think your recent edits solved that. Thank you, again. JTtheOG (talk) 02:40, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please avoid changing "Trump" to "Drumpf"

Hi JTtheOG. In one of your recent edits, you changed the word "Trump" to "Drumpf". I assume that this was unintentional and caused by having the Drumpfinator extension enabled. To avoid this kind of mistake in the future, please disable the extension before editing articles that mention Trump. Thank you. —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:28, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I do have it, and I did not even realize that it would change the word while I'm editing articles. I will disable it; thank you. JTtheOG (talk) 21:18, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dami Tha Prince

How is none of the sources notable? On Dami Tha Prince article? Don't you think saying "quasi" is VERY opinionated? The song has gathered more than 10 million plays. I don't think that's very fair of you to try and take this article down, when evidently and realistically NOT everyone can achieve that. Second, there are 11 sources and you stated all of them were social media profiles. There are a total of 11 sources and ONLY 4 of them are social media sources; twitter, youtube, and soundcloud. ALL verifiable information which is why I believe it is included. In addition, this subject has produced for one of the biggest artists coming up now, Bryson Tiller. Which verifiable information was also provided. I think you guys are looking too much into this page and missing things that are right there. All the information and sources used are correct and meet guidelines. 2601:CA:8500:B270:F8F4:5095:2C98:6C5C (talk) 14:10, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Basically you are saying is that "not notable", "that song isn't even popular". I think you are taking it too far, how can one that does not know or probably has anything to do with music say something like that? 10 million plays is ALOT. Let's be real, can you get ONE million plays? No disrespect, just really confused when sources and everything MATCH. This needs to be thrown out JT!Producerartwriter (talk) 14:29, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Producerartwriter: @2601:CA:8500:B270:F8F4:5095:2C98:6C5C: Not that it matters at all, but Montana of 300 and L'A Capone are actually my top 2 favorite artists (RIP LA). Getting to the actual issue though, at the moment, the article fails WP:GNG, but that does not mean we cannot get it up to par with notability standards. He may very well be the most notable producer out of Atlanta, but the sources provided simply do not prove that. What we need to find for this subject is "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article." The MTV profile is a good start, but even better sources would be online articles reporting a new album, new label signing, personal info, his childhood story, his road to success, etc. As an example, Metro Boomin has sources from The Fader, The Washington Post, Vibe Magazine, Jenesis Magazine, XXL, Complex, Stereogum, Pitchfork, and Billboard, while the article in question uses sources such as Twitter, Soundcloud, YouTube, The Daily Loud, Discogs, PSB Pop Culture, and the ITunes store. Now, regarding the page itself, please stop deleting the AfD template from the article. It is only a discussion, and we can close it and decide to keep the article once adequate sources are provided. Good luck.JTtheOG (talk) 18:04, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Women Together

Hi, I am very upset that the wikipedia entry for Women Together was deleted. This is not a self-promotion issue! The foundation is very established, having started in 1996. There is little press on the foundation because it has dedicated many years to developing programs around the world, and not only does it deserve to be known, but there are also many people who have requested there be more information online and a wikipedia is essential for those searching further info on the foundation and because this is a very important organization. The Women Together foundation hosts an annual gala at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and recipients of the awards include, Iris Apfel (this year), H.M. Queen Rania of Jordan, Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Eileen Rockefeller, etc. All this information can be found on the website www.womentogether.org. Please help me contest this deletion and put the site back as it was! Thank you.

--LifestyleDesignMedia (talk) 21:47, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @LifestyleDesignMedia:! The page seemed promotional to me; it was not a page stating subjective facts, but a page advertising the organization. However, this does not mean that a subjective page is impossible to create. A tip I'd give you is to cite as many third-party sources confirming notability as you can, and to cite your website as little as possible. You might have to find third-party sources from these other countries you do your work in. That's okay; you can include them. I'd also advise you to find sources covering the annual gala you host. Good luck. JTtheOG (talk) 05:16, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your helpful reply. I received a much lengthier one from someone else, that was actually less helpful. Does that happen often? Several opinions at once?? I will try and do what you suggest, only the initial problem I have seen they have is VERY little press, considering the MASSIVE amount of positive work they've done, how long they've been around, the "celebrity status" of some past awardees, etc. They really need help getting their presence online and deserve it, as many people have asked (as I have asked myself) why it's so difficult to find info/press about them online. I have had the good fortune to meet several of the people that collaborate with WT and the amazing programs they have developed, one of which, in the Caribbean country I found myself living in recently. The photos at first were deleted and they were given me to use for whatever was deemed necessary, but I still wanted to add the photogs name, but that apparently caused a red flag...which is confusing? Give credit or not give credit, even if one has the permission to use an image? All your advice is helpful, and I still want this up and running ASAP because it deserves to be posted, probably more so than many other posts out there. Do you have access to my original post, so I can work from there? Thank you! --LifestyleDesignMedia (talk) 03:38, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@LifestlyeDesignMedia: Unfortunately, I do not have access to the deleted article. If you do not find sufficient press, the only thing I could suggest is that you advise those working for WT to invite the media to their events, galas, fundraisers, etc. Here are a few sources I found online from this month:

Good luck, and you know how to contact me for any further assistance. JTtheOG (talk) 05:03, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just pick any of this user's creations, but you will see that they are all machine translations from their es-wiki counterparts. Some have already expressed concerns about these "translations" on the user's talk page, but this seems to be a case of either "I didn't hear you" or "I didn't understand you". In any case, the machine translations keep on coming. It is possible that Cadejoblanco does not understand English, which is the reason for my request for a Spanish warning. - HyperGaruda (talk) 02:20, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IVANDRAGOPETROVICH (talk) 17:03, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@IVANDRAGOPETROVICH: In order for your article to avoid deletion, it needs to pass the guidelines of WP:NMMA (for an mma fighter) and WP:GNG (for a living person). Your article fails both, because he fighter in question has not fought three fights in a top-level MMA organization (namely the UFC) and the fighter has not received considerate media coverage from reliable independent media sources. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

Hello. You proposed deletion for Kyle Ihn article. But I can't see name of article on the list for articles for deletion. Where I can discuss for deletion? Thank you very much. --Aabdullayev851 (talk) 18:59, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Aabdullayev851: The proposed deletion is not in discussion. It's up to the administrator to decide if it passes WP:NFOOTY and WP:GNG. What you can do (if you think the article should stay) is improve it so that it's up to standards. Include multiple references from reliable third-party sources that confirm the subject's notability. If the admin sees an improvement, he will not delete the page. JTtheOG (talk) 03:03, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can you check article again. I added some references. Please give me some advice. I just started article in English Wikipedia and my English is not good enough. --Aabdullayev851 (talk) 18:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Aabdullayev851: Hey Abdulla. You have done a great job with the article, but the problem is that I just don't think that Kyle Ihn passes the notability standards. Firstly, he plays in the PDL, which is the fourth division of football in the United States. I suggest that you use your article-creating skills to make article for players who clearly pass the guidelines. Please see the list at WP:FPL for a list of football leagues that are fully professional. Players that have made at least one appearance in these leagues will almost always be regarded as notable. What I do is I go to the list and find a league, then find a team and look at their roster. From there, I create articles of players who do not yet have an article. Again, you have done a great job with Kyle Ihn, but I don't think his article will stay. Good luck and I hope to see you contribute ! JTtheOG (talk) 03:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User group: New Page Reviewr

Hello JTtheOG.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, JTtheOG. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello JTtheOG,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 826 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello JTtheOG,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 826 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Penryn RFC page

Hi JTtheOG I notice that you have reviewed a number of the rugby union club pages I created - thank you. I have a query regarding another page I created, Penryn RFC, which is not appearing on any Google searches (although an image I used for the page does). I was wondering if you had any idea why this is the case? Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 20:20, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jgjsmith006: Hi! Great job on the articles. I know there is a technical reason regarding web crawlers and indexing, but I don't know enough on the subject to explain it correctly to someone else. It may have just been that it hasn't been patrolled until just now. Let me know if it is not solved, because I have been curious about this issue for awhile, too. Happy editing! JTtheOG (talk) 23:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw that the page is now reviewed. Thanks JTtheOG and keep up the good work. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 14:52, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reviewing "Ligier JS1"

Hello JTtheOG. Thank you for reviewing the page above. That's just the second page that I've created directly without submitting for prior approval since I started editing more actively and I'm interested in your feedback.

OhioBasketball

Why did you nominate my article for a speedy deletion? That makes no sense. I gave credit to the athlete. So, stay off my page. Thank you. Also stop messing up peoples articles, they put hard work into them.

@OhioBasketball: Hey. I nominated your article because he does not meet the general notability guideline set by Wikipedia. If you want to make an article on someone, you have to make sure he/she has received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." If they have not, they are not notable enough to have an article about them. Unless you can cite multiple sources online to confirm this player's notability, this article will be deleted. Especially for a player who has not reached the college level yet, sources are essential to establish their notability since they have not yet proven themselves at a higher level. Look at someone like LaMelo Ball. Since he's only a high school player, he has 36 sources from sites such as ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, etc. JTtheOG (talk) 04:25, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I wanted to know if you could help me out with an article I came across while patrolling the recent changes page. I'm not familiar with American Football at all; I tried to gather as much knowledge from what I'd heard of the sport and try and figure things out myself but failed eventually and had to search up Wikipedia: WikiProject American football as a final resort. The page is I wanted help with is Jonathan Wells (American football). I reached out to you because there were some suspicious changes to the numbers under the "rushing statistics" table made by an IP and I was unable to cross-check the source myself and revert if needed. The "rushing statistics" table on the page has statistics of games from 1998-2001 while the NFL player stats shows statistics from 2002-2005. Is that maybe because the the info is out-dated? Hope to see a reply soon! Jiten Dhandha • talk • contributions • 17:42, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jiten Dhandha: Hi! The rushing stats table on the Wells page details his rushing statistics during his college career at Ohio State University, which spanned from 1998-2001. He started playing professional football in 2002, where he recorded 1167 yards between 2002-2005. I do see how it can be confusing, because there's a high school career section, followed by a college career section, and then it immediately jumps to his post-football career. If you wanted to help the page, I'd suggest adding a section with details on his pro career with the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts, complete with sources. JTtheOG (talk) 22:28, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply! This is slighlty embarrassing for me because I dont know how I could've missed the big heading: "College career" (because I did miss it). I'll see if I can get around to doing some research before updating the pages. Cheers! Jiten Dhandha • talk • contributions • 22:33, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Matthew Mancinelli, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Trophy Kids. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello JTtheOG,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 826 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Can you help verify translations of articles from Spanish

Hello JTtheOG,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Spanish to English Wikipedia?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Spanish article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Spanish, using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Spanish. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Spanish article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elinruby (talkcontribs) 07:47, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, JTtheOG. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello JTtheOG, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello JTtheOG, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
