Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Twice this page has been protected to prevent non-established users from using it as a launch pad to abuse birthplace presentation consensus in favour of a harsh POV-outlook, twice it has failed and it is the same old issue. Kosovo is a wholly sensitive subject and I am convinced we are dealing with one individual who is playing the trol. You can ignore them in discussion but not on the articles. The abuse dates back to December 2009 and non-constructive contributions by IPs is unequivocal. Evlekis (Евлекис) 17:29, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

An notorious sock master Prabhatmishra1985 and his associates 14.98.14.107,14.99.218.248 are engaged in edit warring and general disruption on mass scale.Instead of providing authentic facts and verifiable details,he has been promoting certain individuals on multiple wikipedia articles and used the online encyclopedia platform to promote individualistic interests.His act of massive favouritism has posed a threat to the integrity of many existing articles.He has got Multiple articles severely affected.Either diluting the actual facts or trying to promote certain individuals as eminent(When they actually were not) against the existing premier personaltities who were much senior and reputed in public life.He has also been violating Wikipedia's guidelines on living persons by deliberatly changing factual details and adding hypothetical importance to certain people whom he is attached to.Please semi protect articles like Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee,List of Rajputs & List of people from Bihar.ITS EXTREMELY URGENT Sunny singh9128 (talk) 23:17, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Unidentified user using multiple IP addresses seems to be deliberately editing this template to vandalize it. When I tell this unidentified user on my talk page to leave the template alone he/she incorrectly claims the template was wrong to begin with and re-edits the template stuffing it up again. I have undone this latest incorrect edit to re-correct the template once again but need some help to stop this unidentified user from striking again. Mtiges (talk) 16:45, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent spat of IP vandalism. Has been semi-protected three times, once in 2007, once in 2010, and once last year. I dream of horses (T) @ 16:42, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: IP editor on a slightly changing IP is adding personal opinion, grammatically problematic info, and making other problematic changes. Maybe a temporary semi will encourage them to discuss changes on the talk page. Qwyrxian (talk) 12:08, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

- Semi protection - IP edits are removing maintenance templates from the article. The editor is believed to be the subject of the article and have engaged him in dialog to try and explain the purpose of the templates. He might be a new editor and isn't sure how to read the messages. See User_talk:122.160.70.87#Please_stop_reverting_K_G_Suresh and User_talk:Sphilbrick#K_G_Suresh. CaptRik (talk) 11:33, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Declined It's predominantly one IP. I'd rather we took action against them than protect the article at the moment. Whilst the other IP has done the same a couple of days ago, I'd rather see if that continues before protecting. Relist if the second IP carries on. GedUK 11:48, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – play. 铁铁的火大了 (talk) 10:38, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Declined Are you sure you meant that page? It's already been deleted, and the only person who edited it was you. GedUK 11:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP's keep adding a non-existent Remix cover resulting in a dead link. They also add Britney Spears' single chronology, when it is NOT her single. Tired of IP's making stupid edits on this page. Calvin • 999 10:32, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK 11:55, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Calvin • 999 12:28, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Semi protection - at least from multiple IPs to give a breather for the time it will take to have a sensible discussion about the recommendation by 1 admin, 1 other editor (thirded by myself after reflection) to discuss an AfD or merge, or return to original REDIRECT to the English spelling Nazarene. The page currently has a notability tag on it from an admin, but one of the IPs yesterday removed it. In effect a content dispute about whether to use primary (IPs) or secondary (registered editors) sources. To and fro been ongoing for about two weeks now, though an 2nd admin and 4th editor not currently involved picked up problems from IPs 6 months and 2 years ago respectively. Protection temporary, may need to be maintained to prevent a REDIRECT, if that is the conclusion of any AfD/merge, being spun out into a POVfork again. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:45, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests
- Semi protection - This article was a favourite target for long term sockmaster Pondheepankar / konguboy. It was semi protected for extended periods in april and may. Semi protection expired on june 13 and he is back to disrupting the article. Two days back he used three different ip's to disrupt it in quick succession. And today he is back again. Since he is using a dynamic isp connection, which can be changed by switching the modem on and off, i request semi protection for this article.--Sodabottle (talk) 07:23, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Protection, IPs are adding unsourced speculation on future events. Sarujo (talk) 04:38, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. -FASTILY (TALK) 07:12, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Unprotection: Protecting administrator is involved in a content/editorial dispute on the page and should not have protected it. Whether legitimate or not (personally, the supposed copyvio is happening at a slow enough rate to deal with by reverting), this protection is procedurally inappropriate and should be removed. Strange Passerby (talk • cont) 01:50, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Declined This is the wrong forum. This report belongs at WP:ANI. -FASTILY (TALK) 07:14, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Buford Highway International Community (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Unprotection: The editor Nyttend has protected this page because he thinks that it is synomous with Georgia State Route 13. It is not. The international corridor is only present for a few miles of the roadway, with the vast majority of the roadway not being within the international community. He has refused to engage any other editors on the subject, and has instead strong-armed the process by protecting the page and re-directing it. This is not fair, nor is it accurate.--Mmann1988 (talk) 01:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
