HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM WIKIPROJECT TURKEY PARTICIPANTS

Template:Turkish people

I cleaned up this sidebar template, {{Turkish people}}, as part of a routine maintenance exercise (no significant change to content, except I did remove a {{Systemic bias}} tag, as there had been no discussion on the talk page for more than 2 years). I thought it strange that, although it is listed among the 100 most-watched templates, it is currently transcluded in only one article. There isn't much point in having a sidebar or navbox template if no (or very few) articles actually use it! I hope members of this project will add it to the relevant pages. OMGTurkey.com

An editor has been adding links on various Turkish-interest articles to a website called OMG! Turkey - The Turkish Celebrity Gossip & News, while in some cases [1][2] deleting other sources. Is OMG! Turkey an acceptable source for Turkish show biz and celebrity information? (I have also posted this inquiry at WP:RS/N#OMGTurkey.com.)--Arxiloxos (talk) 02:36, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Governors/mayors of Istanbul

Merhaba!Thanks, Google Translate!

I came across Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, the current governor of Istanbul Province, who's currently redirecting to List of Governors of Istanbul Province. I think it would be best to delete the link to encourage creation of an article on this person, who is almost certainly notable. Discussion will take place at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2014 February 12#Hüseyin Avni Mutlu. I expressed some confusion over Istanbul apparently having a governor and a mayor. This may or may not have much impact on the discussion. If perhaps the position of governor of Istanbul is now largely ceremonial, perhaps the person isn't as important as I would think. --BDD (talk) 18:14, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For the last point; the governors are non-political people and are appointed by the government. They are largely responsible in security of the whole province. The mayors on the other hand are elected people. Up until recently their sphere of influence was limited to a single city in the province. (After March 2014 in some provinces, the authority of the mayors will increase) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

TAFI needs global view

Today's article for improvement is Reconnaissance satellite, which is currently tagged with {{globalize}}. According to {{Rest of the World Reconnaissance Satellites}}, Turkey has 2 (1, 2 recon satellites, but as yet the page has no material regarding Turkey's program. Perhaps the editors on this page would be interested in adding some information about the Turkish perspective on the subject? 0x0077BE [talk/contrib] 14:45, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Turkey experts: Here's a little Afc submission about a village that needs some improvement and some reliable sources. It's soon to be deleted as a stale draft. I thought I would post here to see if anyone would like to fix it up so that it can be added to the encyclopedia. —Anne Delong (talk) 23:15, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article on a Turkish animated children's series. Has had a rough start. Was created as a fake article from beginning based on Steven Universe and attempts from new users and IPs to correct it has been (in good faith) reverted by patrollers. For details see Talk:Leliko. I have stubed it, and invite any of you speaking Turkish to expand it if possible. (The corresponding article on tr.wikipedia looks like it could need a helping hand too.) I just started a discussion about the naming convention for Turkish basketball teams. I need an input from anyone here especially those who are familiar Turkish sports and their multi-sports clubs. Thanks! — MT (talk) 13:39, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish help requested: Etiler Anadolu Lisesi

Would anyone knowing Turkish be okay with looking at the article Etiler Anadolu Lisesi? I looked at the school history page at http://mebk12.meb.gov.tr/meb_iys_dosyalar/34/03/158780/icerikler/tarihcemiz_166749.html but with Google Translate it's hard to tell what it's saying. I want to add the info on the page to the article WhisperToMe (talk) 01:59, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leaflet For Wikiproject Turkey At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Writing Wikipedia articles on academic books

How many of you are interested in writing Wikipedia articles on academic books? For instance, I found:

  • Boğaç A. Ergene: Local Court, Provincial Society and Justice in the Ottoman Empire, Legal Practice and Dispute Resolution in Çankırı and Kastamonu (1652-1744). Studies in Islamic Law and Society, volume 17, Brill, Leiden, 2003. ISBN 90-04-12609-0.

There is a review in: Die Welt des Islams. If you use a library search engine you may find more WhisperToMe (talk) 16:05, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vast majority of WP editors are volunteered amateurs and academic essays may require something more.Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 19:41, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware they are amateurs. But they don't have to write an academic essay itself. Just a summary of what the sources are saying. As an example I'm writing: Before Homosexuality in the Arab‐Islamic World, 1500–1800. You can use WP:RX to acquire these academic sources. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:56, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pleas add information about this country to this articles.--Kaiyr (talk) 09:23, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dersim Province

The official name of the province is Tunceli province not Dersim, however in English Wikipedia it's moved to Dersim Province by someone (Ahmetyal (talk · contribs)) quite possibly with political agenda or whatnot. One can clearly see this at the site of Agency of Provinces (Turkish: İller İdaresi) that the name of the province is indeed Tunceli. Please move it back to Tunceli province and lock the move requests without a real good reason. -- Infestor  TC 23:49, 7 September 2014 (UTC) [reply]

Yes, I've changed the name but I also gave two reliable sources. If they appear to be wrong on the matter, then we have no choice but to change it back to Tunceli. However it seems weird that the name has not 'officialy changed' when Erdogan promised this and implemented a law about this. --Ahmetyal (talk) 09:43, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The name is still Tunceli Province.(see http://www.tunceli.gov.tr/) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:41, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Presently, the name of the province is Tunceli. Please check the following pages The official population statistics for Tunceli Province, Tunceli Province governor's page,Tunceli University page So what is the reason of this discussion ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:50, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's to decide which of the two names should be used, so that the chosen name may be applied consistently, because at present some articles use one and some the other. When a topic is controversial, a unilateral decision is always bad, and one-by-one changes to pages can take forever to finish. What I certainly want to avoid is a repeat of the problems of a few weeks ago (see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RRArchive252#User:Master Tyranus reported by User:Ahmetyal (Result: prot), User talk:Redrose64#Tunceli/Dersim Dispute, User talk:Master Tyranus#August 2014), which resulted in a lot of cleanup for myself and other admins. The worst of these was a series of WP:CUTPASTE page moves, which would still have been undesirable even if they had been discussed. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:30, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The cut&paste page moves by Master Tyranus (talk · contribs) have resumed after exactly two months. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:46, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, the usage of "Anatolian Black" is up for discussion, see Talk:Anglo-Nubian -- 65.94.171.225 (talk) 05:29, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone add a translation to Template:Contrib-tr1 in the style of Template:Contrib-ta1, please? Bazj (talk) 13:57, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish spelling of a location in Cyprus

Would anyone be able to confirm my suspicion here? 93.109.171.237 (talk) 18:54, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:08, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Nedim, but the page you've used as reference is an off-wiki copy of List of cities, towns and villages in Cyprus, so I've had to revert it. 83.168.23.138 (talk) 21:04, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this has any knock-on for Turkey articles or not, someone better versed might want to take a look: Talk:Qabala#Requested_moves. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:06, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
