Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Woody (talk | contribs) at 20:10, 1 July 2020 (→‎Ed Henry: s 1w). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Short-term disruption from multiple IPs regarding recent news events. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:35, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Woody (talk) 20:10, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    College Democrats of America

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Per my understanding, within the last two days a major controversy has erupted within CDA over the behavior of the current president and the national board. I saw on Twitter this open letter circulating among related CDA elected officials calling for Guido's resignation. In the last 24-48 hours, there have been several instances of vandalism, often defamatory and directed against Guido, some of which which went undetected for up to half an hour. (See: Special:Diff/965398029, Special:Diff/965406153, Special:Diff/965419929, Special:Diff/965419766, Special:Diff/965507895 and possibly others). Anecdotally, I've see reporters this morning inquire about the controversy on Twitter, so it may show up in the news soon, making this page much more highly trafficked. Page protection for a few days while the CDA sorts itself out should be sufficient. . WhinyTheYounger (talk) 14:00, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update, NYT did just publish a piece about it half an hour ago, FYI. WhinyTheYounger (talk) 17:13, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    Semi-protected – 1 month. EdJohnston (talk) 19:15, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Nonong Ballinan

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated and persistent vandalism and BLP unsourced additions; see history. Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 14:11, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected – 1 month. EdJohnston (talk) 19:20, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Changpeng Zhao

Indefinite full protection: Persistent vandalism – Please add autoconfirmed lock, as authorized by WP:GS/Crypto. Jtbobwaysf (talk) 14:19, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected – 1 month. EdJohnston (talk) 19:22, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Mason Greenwood

Indefinite Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Target of repeated IP vandalism. Has been protected many times before. P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 16:09, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 19:20, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User talk:2601:8B:C300:4A70:5D09:1427:2C4C:4D51

Temporary full protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked. Unbroken Chain (talk) 17:53, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) re-blocked with talk page editing disallowed. Favonian (talk) 18:30, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User_talk:Yel_D'ohan

6 month semi-protection: An IP user has repeatedly left me messages despite me having expressed my desire to end the discussion, twice asked the person to stop, and cleared out my talk page. I ask for 6 months because the person replied to a 3-month-old message before. --Yel D'ohan (talk) 18:46, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Plaza Baquedano

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – In the beginning of the 2019–2020 Chilean protests the protesters decided that Plaza Baquedano should be renamed as Plaza Dignidad. For that purpose, they vandalized the name of the square on Google until they managed that the automatic algorithms changed the name. The change was manually reverted the day after, but it was published by the press and the users considered that as a triumph. In parallel, they also attempted to change the name in eswiki. Since then, the eswiki page was constantly vandalized by anonymous IPs until it was semi-protected. During the last months (since the semi-protection in eswiki), a similar pattern has been observed in enwiki, including changes in the main name of the square (I already made changes to recognize the attempt in the history section), as well as the claim a person would have been killed by state repression (a fact that has neither been aknowledge by the government nor by human rights organizations). They also keep adding dubious references .SFBB (talk) 19:25, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Mr. Wrestling II

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Until the discussion on the talk page has been closed. Jerod Lycett (talk) 19:30, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Rockall

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – This page has a history of anti British who resent the territorial claims of Britain changing the territorial claims (run on sentence? ). Thanks, Thanoscar21talk, contribs 19:31, 1 July 2020 (UTC). Thanoscar21talk, contribs 19:31, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Lele Pons

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Lele Pons is a Venezuelan Youtube personality, who is quite prominent in Latin America, and recently revealed she has Tourette syndrome, ADHD and OCD. Her article, as well as The Secret Life of Lele Pons are continually vandalized. A three-day semi-protection at her BLP was just removed, and vandalism continued right away. Longer semi-protection at her BLP may be needed (the Secret Life is now semi-protected through July 24).

See my previous requests here and here. . SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:01, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Woody (talk) 20:09, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cartoon Network (Southeast Asian TV channel)

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced content by floating IP (clearly the same editor). Article has been temporarily protected in the past ... now five additional attempts since last protection was lifted, extended period of protection required. Ajf773 (talk) 20:07, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
