Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Jake Wartenberg (talk | contribs) at 19:38, 24 March 2013 (whoops). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection Vandalism We have an anonymous IP who's been changing the release date despite all the warnings he's been given. The IP's address was blocked for a week, but he/she seems to be making the same disruptive edits from another address. A semi-protection seems to be the only way to prevent further false changes in the release date.--Harout72 (talk) 16:06, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent editing by fans. A lot of non-notable and non-encyclopedic content is being added and changed by fans, almost all of whom are IPs. Semi-protection would be very helpful in keeping this article clean. I suggest that it be semi-protected for a good number of months, as this has been a long ongoing process that's unlikely to soon change. • Jesse V.(talk) 08:31, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Elazar Shach (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Permanent Semi-protection: Article has been previously protected twice, in 2010 and 2011 see Elazar Shach Protection Log due to WP:VANDALISM and WP:EDITWARRING. While there is a legitimate vigorous debate that is ongoing between registered users who are often at loggerheads but somehow or other seem to find some consensus, there is a constant peanut gallery of anonymous IP users not afraid to use a variety of tactics, at times outright WP:VANDALISM, other times WP:LAWYERING, and often WP:PERSONAL ATTACKS. Any review of this article's history since its creation in 2006 reveals a plethora of anonymous IP editors swooping in and engaging in controversial debates and incitement violating WP:Flaming without any accountability or any way of knowing if there is any violation of WP:SOCKPUPPETS or worse etc. The problem is furthermore exacerbated and it becomes impossible to conduct communications via normal user page channels with these constant interventions by multiple anonymous IP editors not afraid of making vigorous and controversial edits, deleting huge chunks of material, attacking the credibility of sources and of the subject of the article, while displaying accurate knowledge of WP:LAWYERING techniques without any accountability or way of reaching a resolution with them. Thank you. IZAK (talk) 05:15, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    McLaren MP4-12C (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated addition of badly sourced information by an IP hopper who refuses to engage either on the article's talk page or at WP:RSN. Semi-protection will stop what amounts to vandalism and force the editor, if he/she can still be bothered, to use the talk page. . Biker Biker (talk) 19:35, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism - It appears that some unknown IP users have continuously changed the Result Summary unreliably. I hope semi-protection for 2 weeks can handle this problem to stop the person from continuously changing this. Ccliman (talk) 02:15, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:New York City weatherbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – High visibility template, and no reason for anons to be editing this at all, so long as good watch is kept when all-time monthly extremes fall (even a tie hasn't occurred since 2007). GotR Talk 01:11, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    I don't see any persistent vandalism. TBrandley 01:16, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's not the point. More than any similar template I know, it is a target of vandalism or questionable changes in data; last year alone that occurred on 12 Sept, 8 July, 6 Apr, 7 Mar, and 25 Jan. Moving beyond, although an IP was responsible for beginning the en masse conversion (at least in the US) from 1971–2000 to 1981–2010 dataset. Though the changes were mostly faithful to their sources, they were not the normals figures which are the basis for the phrase "departure from normal". And this went unnoticed until just a month ago. This template presents objective data: based on what NOAA (and Template:Weather box) provide, there is little, if anything, to change anyway. GotR Talk 02:23, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Hi Wiki Admins, There seems to be a persistent vandalism from one particular user who is using different user id's (that are getting created newly) to constantly removing/editing one of the long standing sourced material. Hence requesting for a temporary locking on this page. Also, is it possible to lock a particular section of the page? If yes, could the "introduction" section of the page be blocked indefinitely for editing, please? Thanks!. Thilakan 1980 (talk) 00:05, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
