S. O. Davies
[edit]As you can see, now that Nelson is out of the way and Shaw's FAC is winding down, I've begun serious work on S. O. Davies. There should be a reasonable draft in place by the middle of next week, but I won't be submitting it for review or FAC until I've had the chance to study the one and only full length biography of S.O., by Robert Griffiths. I have managed to track down a copy of this very rare book, but it may not be in my hands for ten days or more. So it's unlikely that the article will get through all its stages and emerge with a bronze star during your "Welsh" month. But you will be able to list as a considerable enhancement; it's graded as stub at the moment, and I will self-award it a C when my draft is complete. Brianboulton (talk) 16:10, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
@Brianboulton: That's great news that you've got hold of the rare biography!! I'm sure by the end of the month it will be significantly improved. That your intention is to get it to FA status is good enough for me!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:38, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Well, it's not in my hands yet...Fingers firmly crossed. Brianboulton (talk) 08:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Lets not count or even acknowledge our chickens but...
[edit]Can I just take a moment to pat you on the back and state that this Welsh challenge has gone off to a crackin' start. Don't panic about who are not taking part or what they may think; the competition has obviously made a significant dent in the first 24 hours. You are on the correct course and are drawing others to march under your banner. Focus now on the good work being done and remember: Do not build a hollowed out volcano base around Tondu, the Hellgate there is trouble enough. FruitMonkey (talk) 00:35, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Cheers FruitMonkey! LOL. Yes, it would be good to have the support of the contest "cynics" too, but I guess you can't win them all! I just get the feeling that a lot of people scoff at this sort of thing on here and think themselves above it. And they're people who I otherwise respect academically and could do a great deal of good on here if they stopped moaning and just got on with it. I don't see them bothering to come up with a better solution. Perhaps if we had an evil £1,000,000 prize it might motivate more people haha! I would hope this will turn out better than a lot of previous contests on here as there is more of an incentive to produce quality work on important subjects, not just mass, random creation. We'll see how it goes anyway, at times I think the editors produce amazing content here, including yourself, Women's suffrage in Wales and Woollen industry in Wales recently created are really outstanding new articles!! I hope to see more great content throughout the month!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:34, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Could you possibly make it two? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:39, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Well, that would be superior of course ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:42, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ouch! Pah, just stop wining. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:25, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Wining or winning?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:27, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- But, of course. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:31, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- It is indeed a great honour to contribute to your revered and scholarly competition. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:46, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Haha, yes, but you have to admit, this article is very important culturally.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:52, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
- As are Welsh leisure centres, of course. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:26, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Dr. Blofeld, the article Sarawak just achieved GA status today and I am interested to promote this article to FA status. Any other work should I do to promote this article to FA status? Any help is very much appreciated, thank you. Cerevisae (talk) 07:32, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Superb work Cerevisae on such a core article!! Always great to see quality work on geography in that area as the overall quality doesn't tend to be very good, with a lot of gaping holes. You're slowly changing this so a hearty well done! I'm a busy n here at the moment and have a few other articles to look at but I'll try to get around to reading it fully next week and making some suggestions. You could open a peer review on it and get some feedback from others in the time being. I'll comment when I can.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:42, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Mingyur Namkhe Dorje.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Mingyur Namkhe Dorje.jpg, which you've attributed to http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Mingyur_Namkh%C3%A9_Dorje. Proposed deletion of Kondakovo
[edit]The article Kondakovo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not a proper disambiguation page; does not link to any page where any of these three cities are discussed.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 07:12, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
St Catharine's
[edit]Sorry, I was sure I'd put that category in! Deb (talk) 20:57, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
@Deb: No worries, just add the citations where marked and try to separate the publisher name from the titles and I'll put the 35 points on the board!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:59, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean about the publisher name. I've always done it as a library cataloguer would. Maybe I'm behind the times. Deb (talk) 07:34, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
@Deb: Your Welsh Biography Online: John Prichard. Accessed 3 April 2016 Try Prichard, John, Dictionary of Welsh Biography. Accessed 3 April 2016 for instance. Separate the publisher from the title.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:52, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oh, is that what you mean? Dictionary of Welsh Biography isn't a publisher. Deb (talk) 09:23, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Well you could add "Online" to the end of it. Isn't it the National Library of Wales who is the publisher?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:44, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Do them like that, take the source/publisher out of the title links. Just introducing Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Stub Obliteration 2016, a way to earn a lot of points this week through minor expansions!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:50, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, maybe I've just been here too long. I've never used cite web because to me it doesn't make any real difference. I've always cited things in what I would call a librarian's way and no one has ever even commented on it as far as I can remember - although occasionally bots have changed the odd thing. I've also never submitted anything for GA or reviewed anything for GA because, to me, it doesn't mean anything in terms of the value or readability of the article; it all seems to be about personal preferences. But I really don't expect you to do my work for me. If that's what it takes to participate in this exercise, I will try and conform. Deb (talk) 21:27, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it may be because you've been around since the dark ages on here before citations templates came into being. I joined in 2006 and by then they were in use. I don't want to put you out but I do have to try to kepe to the rules, if I don't then people could really produce some bare url link refs and fail to mention publisher. If you could get into the habit of url linking the titles only and the publisher/website after it, not within the link, that's all I ask for.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:30, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
A bot closed the PR
[edit]Hey! the PR was recently closed by a bot. You didn't even get to post your comments there. I don't know what to say. I hope you would look at it. Krish | Talk 18:02, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
I didn't have time to, sorry. My world doesn't revolve around reviewing Indian cinema articles! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:10, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Get baking...
[edit]Hi Dr. B! Just thought we'd smugly point out the creation of List of restaurants in Wales. We are serious about wanting the cakes... I hope you didn't think you'd get away with just sending a cookbook. I hope that you'll be getting the hot plate ready for those Welsh cakes! Bwhahahah! Stacey & WormTT(talk) 19:27, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Haha, but you have to write Welsh cuisine and get it to GA status first, the list was the easy part of the deal ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:29, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- User:Worm That Turned/Welsh cuisine. I'm on it. It will happen. WormTT(talk) 19:30, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- It has to be a pretty good article and reasonably comprehensive with a good outline of the aspects. There should be some images in the commons!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:32, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- You're talking to the person who reviewed English cuisine for GA, as well as brought Pasty, BLT, Stargazy pie and Clotted cream to GA. Food articles are my speciality, as my girth declares. Now stop distracting me, I've got to keep thinking of the cakes. WormTT(talk) 19:35, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Like to remember Stargazy pie, translated to German: my most successful "DYK", ever, mmhhhh ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:58, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Cornish cuisine aint Welsh cuisine though ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:06, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

@Worm That Turned: Getting Culture of Wales to GA status now worth 925 points in total as there's a 750 bonus on whoever gets it to GA... But like the cuisine article it will need to be a high quality, well-researched entry. Worth several thousand Welsh cakes ;-) History, Geography, Economy, Politics and Culture articles are extremely important articles and the ones we most want to see promoted by the end of this as they'd be the Level 1 Vital Articles for Wales.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:26, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to. We're certainly able to try, but the last time I had a go at a core article (Drink), I just wasn't happy enough with it to put it up for GA. That said, we'll see how we do with the cuisine article and have a look at them towards the end of the month! WormTT(talk) 11:12, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- They're not easy to do I agree, though surely one like Drink is much harder!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:13, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Would you mind terribly... reading over Welsh cuisine? I'm starting to go blind to the subject and am sure I've written something stupid. I'm hoping that if I can get another few hundred characters I could bring it to DYK, as I think work like that would look good on the front page! WormTT(talk) 21:54, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Will look fully tomorrow. At quick glance though it certainly looks on the right track and a respectable start. It might need a little more detail and breadth if possible though, but shouldn't be too difficult to get it to GA from here, unless I find something devastatingly awful about the prose LOL.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:09, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Feel free to give us any suggestions, I'm sure we can get it over the line. But it's hard to write about Welsh food, when so many sources say "there's no such thing as Welsh food". WormTT(talk) 22:17, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have two books on Welsh food. If there are any cites you can't find give me a shout, I may be able to help. FruitMonkey (talk) 22:36, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Worm That Turned: and @FruitMonkey: I want the article done well on this, as well as possible of course. If FruitMonkey thinks he can help it, I would allow for this to be a collaborative one, as it's a specially designated one in the contest. I would also allow others to work on getting the restaurant list to FL status. I would give both of you the points on promoting it unless either of you object to this?♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:26, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'm all for collaboration, and would welcome the help (though I've still more to work on the article before the end of the competition, I'm just trying to get it to DYK at the moment, GA will come in time). As for points, well, I'd leave that up to you, but I will say that I (and Stacey) have worked very hard on bringing the article to this point, and I hope that will be reflected. in any distribution. [edit]Blowers, I apologise, it appears I'm now on holiday. Unfortunately I'm in Glastonbury and not in a remote area of Wales that needs photographs. My internet connection is like the Namibian Empire and I am away from my beloved books. I will continue my best to update articles but I will be sluggish until next Saturday. Llawhaden Castle
[edit]It was only when I came to claim for Llawhaden Castle that I realised that Miyagawa had been working on it the day before, however he had not removed the stub tags. Films
[edit]Hi, Dr. Blofeld. Finally i got some free time to watch some films, and i am going to resume watching the films recommended by you. However, i have changed my rating system. Instead of numbers, this shall be my new rating system.
Let me know what do you feel about this new rating system of mine. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 18:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Begun watching Tokyo Story. Shall rate it tomorrow if i complete it tonight. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:00, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
- Done watching Tokyo Story. Quite a charming and sensible film. The Pawnbroker up next. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:06, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- It's a excellent film, but I personally think it's a tad overrated. But I'll watch it again sometime, like Ugetsu it might grow on me! The Pawnbroker is all about Steiger!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:22, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- Tokyo Story wasn't entirely subtle, but was surely sensible. Setsuko Hara was brilliant. Shall watch The Pawnbroker tonight. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:47, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Done with The Pawnbroker. It is Steiger's one man show, and i guess that it would grow on after further viewings. Shall begin The Naked Gun trilogy from tomorrow, my birthday. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:16, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Didn't enjoy it then?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:25, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- I blame my world, not the film. I liked Steiger's performance and his characterisation in The Pawnbroker. There are some other tragic happenings (read deaths) in my personal life which affected the experience. That was why i said that it may grow on after further viewings. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:52, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Didn't enjoy it then?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:25, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld, lets go for a deal. I will watch The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! tonight. Once i am done with it, you can choose any random film left in the recommendations and let me know. You need not do it immediately, however. Deal? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:46, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'm a bit busy to watch much at the moment. I haven't forgotten though! I think you said it's your birthday today, so happy birthday and enjoy The Naked Gun!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:47, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- Not today, Doctor. It was on 24th. Still, thanks for the wishes. I can understand that you are busy here until May 1 thanks to the dragon editathon. When you are free, choose anyone of those remaining ones, and let me know. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:59, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Done with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! completely last night. Really entertaining. The fight in the beginning, the scene at the pressmeet where Frank sings in the bathroom, all the scenes related to Frank and the villain's office, mishap at the queen's reception, and the one where a lady falls on a hypnotised player—really entertaining film. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 08:44, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Glad you enjoyed it. They ought to have made a Naked Gun 4 1/4 which poked fun at O.J. Simpson's trial though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Amen. I still am unable to forget Frank's acts at the pressmeet in the bathroom, and also the doctor's chase. Poor guy, he is subjected to so many attacks LOL! Another brilliant scene was the one related to the airbag in Frank's car. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:08, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Glad you enjoyed it. They ought to have made a Naked Gun 4 1/4 which poked fun at O.J. Simpson's trial though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- The second one isn't as good but the third one very good, you'll LMAO at the sperm bank scene and Escape from Alcatraz spoof.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:11, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Should watch both of them sooner. Now that i am back from Chennai, i guess i will do it faster. Meanwhile, i think Pathala Bhairavi may complete the deal. It is a bit longer, but it may serve as a small deviation from the 80s deals. What say? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:14, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'm sure I'll see that next month sometime.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:19, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

However, a number of them (see entries 48–315) add the homepage of the website gomolo.com as a reference which is … odd. Can something be done to remove there superfluous references? Thanks.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 14:41, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi Cpt.a.haddock. Yes they all need filling out with the actual page links rather than main page and all need fleshing out. Gomolo.com, as dodgy as it sounds, is a credible, comprehensive database for indian films. They'll mostly all be notable but like most wikipedia articles need a lot of work. Of course there's lot of Indian cinema editors here who can fill them all out ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:49, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Mind taking a look at this? ツ FrB.TG (talk) 15:14, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, no reviews for actors/films this month, I'm busy.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:02, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- That makes no sense to me. Even if gomolo is credible, this is like adding imdb.com as a reference for every Hollywood film out there … utterly pointless IMO, except perhaps in inadvertently misleading the reader that an article is well-referenced. Anyhow, I just wanted to draw your attention to this issue as I thought that it might have been unintentional. Cheers.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 15:27, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Delete them then if you wish Cpt.a.haddock, I don't mind.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

DYK for The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny
[edit]On 9 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1839, the landlord of The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny was found guilty of failing to provide sufficient hay to horses of the 12th Royal Lancers? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny. [edit]There I was squirelling away on my next project deep underground in my secret bunker in Pant, when I discover you were watching me all along. Your spies are legion. Sorry I'm not hitting one of the main articles on the list but I clicked on the radio section under the Culture of Wales box and it took me to Radio in the United Kingdom. This always gets my goat, so I was forced to attend. It turns out its quite an interesting topic, so at least I'm learning something, which is always my main goal when writing articles. [edit]I've put this on a related project page. Feel free to amend or add to if needed. Robevans123 (talk) 11:51, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Robevans123. Later in the month I'll open Wales in Red where there will be a mass new article run for a week with high points for sheer bulk of new content. I'll aim to target a lot of those missing ones then. The main focus for now is on the existing core content and improving the overall quality.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:02, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Given it some focus on core articles. Robevans123 (talk) 12:20, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. When I start the Wales in Red run I'll have some very good points for mass starts of those missing railway stations, so overall contest will hopefully target all aspects. The central focus though is really on sorting out the important core existing articles which are neglected, to improve the general quality and consistency. Hopefully one of the guys can get me a list of the ones with tags, that'll be a good place to start with the cleanup/improvement.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:24, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Land of the Leopard National Park might interest you or @Nvvchar:. I'm headed to work so can't do anymore for now. Core articles?
[edit]Builth Castle is not on the core article list, perhaps because it was not in the Castle stub category. Should it be? It was an important stronghold and I could expand it more. And what about Wildlife of Wales, an article I would like to create? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:52, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
I don't think Builth is listed nope, so didn't make the list. You could argue though that it should be for historic reasons. Wildlife of Wales should be existing by now and is definitely a Level 1 core article but I can't really keep add articles to the core list when contestants ask because new articles are much easier to do! Miyagawa did 1927 FA cup final which definitely should have been a core article but I couldn't give him the points. If your fellow contestants are happy for me to add Wildlife of Wales to the core list and you get the points for it I'll do it as it would be a worthy article, but I would expect a really good article if you plan on taking it to GA. I did ask before the contest began for people to add wildlife articles as it's poorly covered on the list. The problem if I add missing articles to the core list now is that others will be asking to do the same and before you know people will be back to just starting articles and not improving the existing ones! At the end of the contest we can agree on a new, updated core list for the next contest, if we do it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:00, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:30, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: What I can do, is add a 100 GA bonus for starting and getting Wildlife of Wales to GA status. I did have some ones in there originally on missing notable core articles like that and would have added it anyway if I'd thought of it originally, so I can give 300 for it if you get it to GA but you would only get the 10 (x2) 20 points initially for the start, so it would be worth 320 points in total. Such an article at GA would definitely be a good thing on an important topic, so go for it, but it has to be pretty well-researched.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:36, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Nick's nightclub in NY
[edit]Dr. Blofeld:
The present designation for Nick’s being in Harlem is incorrect. It was in the Greenwich Village region of Manhattan at the northwest corner of 7th Ave. and 10th St., and this is 9.4 miles southwest of the incorrect Sugar Hill reference (at 150th street) in Harlem. After your December 2013 edit to Sugar Hill another editor incorrectly posted Harlem. Refer to the River Walk Jazz Collection from Stanford U. at http://rwj-a.stanford.edu/program/night-nicks-hot-jazz-big-apple first page, paragraph 6. The building still stands as of 2015 and can be seen on Google Maps. My second cousin, Bill Reinhardt, used to play here before entering the Navy in WWII. He also played with Muggsy Spanier and Miff Mole at Nick's and Bill later hired them for his Jazz, Ltd. club in Chicago in the late 1940s, that he fashioned on Nick's club.

[edit]Hi. Please avoid posting on Caden's page, as there seems to be bad blood between you. I've protected The Beatles (album), and hopefully everybody involved will be able to work out the dispute on the article talkpage. Bishonen | talk 19:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC).
That I've had past differences with Caden Bishonen has absolutely nothing to do with it. I noticed an edit conflict on an article which has long been on my watchlist, and Caden simply happened to be reverting to a poorer quality version with a short paragraph in the lede. I simply asked him to stop stalking J66 (see Ticket to Ride history) and just let him get on with editing. It is infuriating when somebody is working hard to improve an article and somebody is constantly deleting their efforts of hampering them. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:47, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

I've brought this to WP:PR for comment. A particular thing that needs looking at is the presentation of certain Welsh names, so I'm hoping that you (and perhaps others of the Welsh mafia) will be able to help here. I'm looking for a fairly rapid PR turnaround, because if we could get it to FAC, say, by 21st, there's an outside possibility that this could become a FA within your "Welsh month" (Nelson's Pillar recently went through in a week). Big Pit Grade II buildings
[edit]A number of the buildings at Big Pit were listed as Grade II in 1995 but I don't think they're on the Grade II list. Not sure if they'd be best off listed individually or together as part of the Big Pit museum. We hope (talk) 15:01, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Depends how much detail is available for each and how many their are. Sometimes notable estates and museums have a listed building for the gatehouse, or even walls. Not all of them are notable. What do you think? A basic summary of each would be a good start in the main article anyway. I'll get back to Llandaff Cathedral early next week, we'll have it at GA by the end of the month!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:23, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Am thinking they would be best off with a summary in the Big Pit article. Taken alone, they wouldn't be as significant as they are grouped together in the article. The question might be "why is this significant?" which is best answered when looking at them as part of the mine. Think I've gotten hold of everything else re: the cathedral-including the fact that Wood was trying to reconstruct Solomon's temple there and not an Italian-style building. Hi, I just created this article for the April 22 prep set, but I'm unable to find any free images of the Haggadah on Commons or Flickr. Would you be able to help? I came across this image of the supermarket display; not sure if it's free, but it sure is blurry! Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:34, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- User:Yoninah, the display is from 2009, so it can't be used as PD, sorry. Had a look at some of the older Haggadah books Maxwell House produced; the company copyrighted them, so I'd assume they copyrighted the books from the beginning. The good news is that they didn't renew their copyright on the older books. They're not as colorful as the more modern ones, but we can get some PD images of those if you like. Proposed deletion of Phenomenon Art Gallery
[edit]The article Phenomenon Art Gallery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable art gallery tagged since May 2008.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 02:44, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Editor of the Week : nominations needed!
[edit]The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.
The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?
Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

Wales in Red this weekend?
[edit]Hi Doc. Just noted on the Wales in Red page that we're doing it again this weekend. Is this right? If so, would I add any new submissions as a "day 4" for today? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:20, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
@The C of E: Oops, forgot to change it, we're holding it on the 30th. I think people need more time to do more quality expansions of the core articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:01, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Time for the toons...
[edit]Hi Doc, I have recently been working on Walt Disney, which is now up for PR. Any thoughts or comments on his huge figure would be much appreciated. Cheers – SchroCat (talk) 11:34, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
How do you work so quickly? You make most of us look like lazy sods, right Martin?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:15, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

80s films
[edit]Now, time for a bit of the 80s. My turn for a challenge, Your Malevolence, Mwahahaha!! Sri Raghavendrar vs. Pale Rider (both related to religious aspects). — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 15:22, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Nono, the 1980 film next, the one you mentioned. That vs The Elephant Man. I'll be moving onto 1985 next week so Sri vs Pale Rider can come then.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:25, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oh yes, Sankarabharanam. That then. As His Evilness orders. Deal. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 15:31, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- The Elephant Man really is borderline top 50 list material, I was undecided whether to cram it in or not. It's a terrific film, quite extraordinary. What did you think of 10 Rillington? The abortion/murdering scene for me is one of the creepiest scenes I've ever seen in any film. The old decor and look of the rooms, actully shot across the street from the real house, so would have looked just like that, reminded me of the interior of 25 Cromwell Street. His demeanour was exactly that of the benovelent psychopath, perfect. Christie in real life was actually from Yorkshire, so Attenborough absolutely nailed his accent and demeanour I'd guess. Both Attenborough and Hurt should have won Oscars for that film.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:44, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Attenborough was quite subtle-like, yet dangerous. The abortion/murder scene was my pick too! — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 16:03, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what made it creepy as this Christie fella like the Harold Shipman type was regarded as a benevolent character in the community, the last person you'd expect to be a serial killer. That he didn't play it as a typical thug or monster worked to its advantage. A guy like that, the Shipman type, you can see how they got away with murder literally for so long!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:27, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Glad you enjoyed Sankarabharanam. Watched Pale Rider yesterday. Almost an ode to High Plains Drifter, and yet, with a flavour of its own. Eastwood's as usual, brilliantly badass. So, your part of the deal (Sri Raghavendrar), Evilness. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 00:38, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Later, yup. Did you like the "nothing like a nice piece of hickery" scene?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:46, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- You kiddin! That was, as you would put it, the creme de la creme of the film. Also, the shootout scene with the old geezer. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 12:37, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- The Outlaw Josie Wales another great Eastwood western you seen that? The Jackie Brown vs. Annamayya after I've watched Sri.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:29, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- Nope. Have been meaning to watch it. Will do so after Jackie Brown. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 13:48, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

DYK for It Happened in Monterey
[edit]On 26 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article It Happened in Monterey, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 1930 song It Happened in Monterey fell out of popularity until it was revived by Frank Sinatra in 1956? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/It Happened in Monterey. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, It Happened in Monterey), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

WiR statistics
[edit]Thanks for updating the main WiR page. I was just going to do it myself and discovered you had just been there. But I am curious about your calculation behind the figure of 11,596 new articles in the announcements. The problem is that the bios on men are being created at the same time. The number of new articles will therefore have to be much higher.--Ipigott (talk) 11:28, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, the male biography count is going to increase so it's quickly going to be a little inaccurate. If you could get somebody to work out a live figure proportionally that would be the best thing. I also get almost 135 articles needed to up the notch by 0.01%. It's rough and subject to cange but it does give us roughly an idea of what is need to up to notch.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:30, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
@Ipigott: Calculation:
- 1,347,281 divided by 100 x 17 = roughly 229,037. 229,037 - 217,442 = 11,596.
- 1,347,281 divided by 100 to get 1 percent, divided by a further 100 to get 0.01% so 1,347,281 divided by 10,000 = just under 135 I get.
Of course this depends on whether the total figure is constant and the male biography figure isn't changing, which it is, so it might be more articles actually needed. What is really needed on this is a live calculator which I'm sure could be programmed. It just gives a rough idea of what sort of articles are needed anyway. Even if we can't get a live calculator, this could be quickly worked out and updated each month.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:41, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- I agree we need a much more reliable basis for calculating the number of women's biographies needed to reach 17% overall. But on the basis of available stats, I would guess we would need about 4,000 new articles per month over the next year -- and at the moment there are only about 2,000 new articles a month, of which about 600 result from WiR. So at another rough guess we would need at least 60,000 new articles over the next two years to reach 17%. At our present rate, that will take us three or four years. I've looked at past stats in some detail and despite all the fuss about the gender gap, the percentage of female biographies on the EN wiki actually went down by 0.22% in 2013. At present there are about 2,000 new women's biographies a month, most on sports and entertainment and most not from the various WiR editathons. But I'm not sure whether this should be our objective, given the interest in women in sports, fashion, TV, and modelling which will continue without any support from WiR. I would far rather see significant proportional increases in areas such as art, science, literature, music and leadership. That's why I support your proposal to have research undertaken on progress by occupation. I would therefore suggest you alter your announcement until we have more reliable figures. @Rosiestep: I'm sure Rosie will be interested in this discussion too. She'll probably suggest we should move the discussions to the WiR talk page but it may be even better to have a new page on "Research and evolving objectives". In any case, we need to improve our coverage of "research" and provide a link from the WiR template.--Ipigott (talk) 12:09, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- It's a mammoth task yeah, just one percent increase that many articles. To really get it up over 20 is going to take a long time, unless we find a way to bring in new numbers and ways of increasing output.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:13, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

- Amazingly we didn't actually have a proper article on it until I wrote it, it was a brief bit of info in the main Alcatraz Island article! That place really has an electric atmosphere, I visited it once about 20 years back amd those eroding buildings and look of the place is really quite eerie. Even before the penitentiary it had that sort of feel to it as the Indians thought evil spririts resided there!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:38, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

@Deb:, @Penny Richards: Feeling generous for the Finale, anybody with under 1000 points so far can claim a bonus of the lifetime of the person that they improve. Scientists and sportspeople on the core list are now worth double (50 points) for 3 kb expansions. So if Penny expanded a dead woman scientist or something by 3kb she'd get 40/50 core, 50 scientist, 20 woman, + bonus of however long they lived for. Hopefully this will make it more fun (and not too confusing) in the closing days. Plus if you manage to spell the name of a famous Welsh person there's more points in it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:00, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
