Because although the surname of the father (and thus the mother) appear as Behl in Wikipedia (the latter) and in sources (the former), a user has "moved" -I understand after some discussion- the son to Bahl. To me what happens around these people are a mystery... I saw how you found many sources on other complicated issues and believe may do so also in this case to clear this mess. Mohnish Bahl seems the most common spelling. Perhaps he changed the spelling slightly for professional reasons. Can you find any source which disproves he is their son?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:17, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

More chance of having it permanently protected from editing. I understand that some here don't think much of WP:OWN, but in my experience core high-traffic articles need to be treated differently from others as they expose the main weaknesses of building an online encyclopedia which anybody can edit. If you could get Paris to FA and it go through a strong FAC then I think you'd stand a better chance of it being protected from further editing and locked, providing you can show that it's difficult to maintain being free to edit.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:51, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Aha, a sort of 'appeal to authority'. I was always of the notion that a good-quality article is less prone to change because there's less to 'fix' or 'add'. But yes, the article's attempted use as a WP:SOAPBOX has been a large source of its problems (and the reason for the WP:OWN and WP:BATTLEFIELD attitude that reigns there), but I can't seem to get that even looked at to any depth because of (maybe) admin overload and resulting inattention and short-sightedness. And probably even you still don't have a full idea of what you walked into a year ago, and that's what brought all the attention there (even mine). Wiki does have its share of organisation obstacles, for sure.

I'll try to improve the article about Miroslav Cikán, Blofeld. Try Loves of a Blonde, Intimate Lighting or A Report on the Party and the Guests if you like Golden Sixties/Czech New Wave. Personally I think that Marketa Lazarová is the best Czech film ever made, but I have to agree with you that The Shop on Main Street is a masterpiece. Hello DB. I see you are working on SK's ACO film today. I am wondering it you might be interested in taking a look at this Talk:A Clockwork Orange (film)#Public perception of genre .28proposed_re-write.29. The genesis of this is a bit long and involved. Some of the info about it can be seen in the threads above - including one at the top of the talk page. IMO the info would be of benefit to the article and I think that a skilled editor like you could improve its usefulness. OTOH you might not agree with the sections premiss or you might not be interested in working on it. @MarnetteD: Oh pretty much the whole thing will need a rewrite. I'd thought the same thing, concision is always better. Don't worry, Clockwork is one of my targets with the books through the grant to get to GA status. For now I'm just compiling info in my sandbox and adding some quotes and stuff to films, and I can decide what to do with it at a later date. I've reached Barry Lyndon now in the first book I have, rather than me actually starting work on Clockwork. Hoping you come back

HI Dr. B! Its been over a week since I last heard from you and Im hoping that you decide to come back so we can work with you on any remaining issues the article might have to gain your support. Unlocking your support is all this article needs to achieve featured status now. In the time since we last heard from you, we have been hard at work on the issues that you pointed out and I think many of the issues you had may now be resolved. I have replaced and/or doubled up many HistoryLink citations with a book source and have improved the sourcing in the history section as well other parts of the article. Casliber has done a thorough copyedit and worked with me to get rid of the last of the flab in the prose, taking out introductory and other sentences that dont tell you anything in particular. The Sports section seems done. It doesnt have that ugly table in there and even includes a Googlebook citation, which you introduced me to. The Parks and rec section has been slashed and is comprehensive, yet compact; covering the parks, trails, as well as summer and winter recreation. We have worked so hard on this and we are so close. There's a huge number of villages of the same name in Burma like that, so in circumstances coordinates will be needed. It's difficult to know which village is in which district let alone township. Paris article

Although I was kind of skeptical in the beginning, I think I agree more and more with your idea of restoring the article to its July 2013 version, given the mess they've done in the article. For example: [1]: wrongly named reference (so when one clicks on a, b, or c one is brought always to the 1st mention of the reference, and not to the others); figures mentioned in the sentence not present in the reference; no effort to use proper citation models with { {cite web } }. Unfortunately this is not an isolated case. I can't count the number of grammar mistakes and poor diction either. A typical example of this: [2]. Sections have also been thrown here and there rather haphazardly (for example the "religion" and "tourism" sections, which have been created and moved around several times; another funny example: the article now has a... "Poverty and the homeless" section, lol! I'm waiting for a "Wealth and the rich people" section next). There were some flaws in the July 2013 version, which I wasn't shy to mention on the talk page at the time, but now the article is frankly much more of a mess, and also less professional (unreferenced figures, US-style double spacing, and so on). I've asked User:Future Perfect at Sunrise about some circumscribed RfCs dealing with specific points, but perhaps a more general one is needed. Not sure yet. Well, that is a surprise. Admittedly I stopped looking at the article and talk page a while back as I couldn't believe how much of a hash had been made of it. I'd suggest restoring User:Dr. Blofeld/Paris 2 at least, which combines some of the condensing improvements and decent housing and demo additions (although which need sourcing and copyediting improvements) with the relative technical soundness of the July 2013 version. I'm not too keen on the "Human resources" and "Infrastructure" section clustering though and would rather return to original section headers at least. Ultimately multiple editors overediting the same article tends to often make things worse as in this case. I wasn't very keen on the "human resources" section either, but as you know too well, discussion is nearly impossible on the talk page. I liked the "infrastructure" section better. They do that in many articles, and it allows to group together sub-sections that are otherwise spread a bit everywhere.

I think it's best to work on the main article anyway, and not on a sandbox that most editors are not aware of. You should have placed your version of the article (good or bad) in the main article, and let other editors work on it from there.

The question of whether this article is supposed to be an encyclopedic article about Paris or a tourist guide should also be asked once and for all. These are two different things. An encyclopedic article does not contain the same information as a tourist guide, and vice versa. An RfC is needed, but I haven't been able to locate a talk page somewhere that would attract the attention of uninvolved editors (the current 5 or 6 editors in the Paris talk page will never agree on anything). There is Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities, but it seems to have very little traffic. If you know of busier places where to highlight such an RfC, let me know. I usually prefer working in the mainspace but for article subjects with much conflict I think it is best planning it out bit by bit in a sandbox. I think the current state of the article has proved that many editors working on it and in conflict in the mainspace doesn't work. I don't think it's possible to come up with a version everybody is happy with, but I at least appreciate the effort Promenader, Siefkin and Cold are making to make it comprehensive and trying to come up with a decent version without the major issues. The best articles are those which are made comprehensive first and then filed down and split into separate articles. Sorry for the delay, I was out walking in the woods (I live in the Ile-de-France). Reference 16, on the coins of the Parisii, is Joel Schmidt, Lutece: Paris, des origines a Clovis, p. 65-70. For 17, about Roman monuments, that's a website, and not my citation. I would prefer that you use the same Schmidt book; he describes the theater, baths, etc. in detail on pages 154-167. Otherwise I can give you another citation from Fierro, "Histoire et dictionnaire de Paris, p. 12, with the same information. I can put those in. I agree with you on all points. I will start working my way through the refs and getting them added in that format, and here and there I'll try to do some additional cleanup and shortening; there's a fair amount of duplication in the article, on multiple mention of monuments and tourism figures, among other things. I agree that sub-articles would be better on several subjects, such as restaurants and administration; it's just a matter of finding the time to write them. I've restored to the bibliography some sources that were deleted during the reversion, and updated more citations to the sfn format. As you've probably seen, I've also restored the 18th and 19th century sections of the history, which had a lot of new information and new citations, put them together, and put those citations in the sfn format. I propose next to do the same with the 20th and 21st centuries, to bring in the more recent text and citations and merge them. I'm a little baffled about how you want the cite web citations to be done, I see different formats out there. Can you give me an example of the format that should be used? Re:Silent films

Doc, the breakdown for automatic PD is done according to the year the item was done. Anything before 1923 is automatic PD; anything after that requires some proof that it's in the public domain. With the posters, lobby cards and photos that have no copyright marks, they are PD if they were done before 1978. If something was copyrighted, checking to see if the copyright was renewed is what's done. If it wasn't renewed, then it's in the public domain. The magazines at Lantern are PD because their copyrights weren't renewed. Let me check on the film to see if it was renewed or not. We hope (talk) 14:18, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Because there's money in them--putting them on DVD is a cash crop. ;) Right now, I just started to look for posters & lobby cards for The Temptress. What happens here is that while the films may still be in copyright, the companies many times didn't mark their promotional material as being copyrighted. Right now I'm finding some lobby cards from the film--they're not marked so they're in the public domain. Many of the lobby cards of the day started as black and white and were hand colored to make them more appealing to display. I think we're interested in part because it's all a time we don't know first-hand, so we have to read and learn and try to imagine it. When I was a kid, I was lucky enough to have one very "senior" relative still living. You could ask her anything about the times gone by. Of course, not about the War Between the States and things like that. :) I'd asked her about Halley's Comet and she told me about being on the roof of a building watching it with other family members. The photo should be fine as a non-free photo as I'm almost certain it's no longer in business. Look at the Brown Derby; at one point it was everywhere and it's now also part of history. I'll also have a look around to see if there are any postcards for the Montmartre and upload then if so. • This in 2 parts tells how the restaurant was divided into two sections-a section for stars and a section for the "nobodies". The famous New York eateries El Morocco and Stork Club did the same thing. While those from out of town didn't realize they were in "Siberia" at El Morocco, the regulars knew they had their own section. I try to upload as many lobby cards and posters as I can, even if we don't have an article on the film as yet. Think there are more Border Romance cards out there if you want and we can operate our own "still" for pics. :) Thought he may have been in the card but didn't get a chance to check it. This was before there was an article on Don Terry and I thought it would be nice to have a shot of Armida in her first film. The bad news is-Me, Gangster was renewed but am glad I re-checked. The good news is that Border Romance wasn't. Here's a link to watch & download it free. The site has more films and television shows claimed to be in the public domain, but before I used any shots from them, I'd check to see if this was really so. I would be dubious about anything like this claiming PD that's after 1962, because that would likely be for non-renewal. After that time, it would need to be non-registration.

It's not impossible, but registration is more than likely the case. A while back I spent a few hours with the UPenn copyright books over original registrations for Star Trek. The show was produced by Desilu in the beginning and when Lucille Ball sold Desilu to Paramount, Paramount took over the production until it was canceled. Bottom line is that neither Desilu nor Paramount ever registered the Star Trek orgiinal episodes. It looks like at some point in this century, someone at Paramount realized what had happened and re-mastered the episodes, making enough technical enhancements to get new copyrights on them. So if you can get a photo that has proof it dates from the time Star Trek originally aired and can tie it back to NBC, Desilu or Paramount, it's in the public domain.

Was just using Photoshop but am now also using Pixlr. Got comfortable with some of the way you do things with Photoshop like straightening/turning a photo, so do that with Photoshop, but do a lot more adjusting and so on with Pixlr. We hope (talk) 15:54, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

My news here is not good. Have looked through Lantern and no luck with PD photos. I then tried for non-free and found nothing that would fit the purpose of a photo to identify the deceased person. Did read that as per his article, he was not the easiest person to get along with, so this may have been a factor in the lack of photos of him. Am guessing he did few interviews; these would have made for photo ops. On a happier note, take a look at what I backed into about Don Terry. We hope (talk) 03:21, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

I didn´t really plan to, but just happened to expand Hadatha (which you started...once upon a time) to meet the DYK-criteria. Feel free to nominate it if you like. I´m still going to expand it a bit more (Dauphin, Thomson). I was just trying to clean up the mess on the Haditha (disambiguation)-places. Well, there is the SWP map from the 1880s, linked at the bottom of the Hadatha-page, take the SWP map VI, IAA one (best scan). It is named El Hadetheh on the SWP map.
