Len Rawle

Len Rawle, player and preserver of organs of the Wurlitzer variety. I've just been re-watching Metro-Land and wonder whether Rawles might be notable. Pathé covered him in 1960, there are bits such as this and he is already mentioned in Wurlitzer theatre organs in the United Kingdom. He has been interviewed here (I cannot hear it) and there are loads of other GHits, although many are unfamiliar to me and a fair few seem to be basically PR for concerts. There is also a hint in a snippet about what he had to do to his self-built house feature in Metro-Land in order to get the former Empire Cinema, Leicester Sq. organ into it and not annoy the neighbours. It will be a stub but there are enough snippets to suggest that more might turn up. What do you think? Hee Hee

Just saw this and had to chuckle. My one pleasant memory of the film is that I saw it at our Cooper Cinerama Theatre. As a youngster it seemed to make any film a extraordinary experience. Just shows how wonderfully naive a person can be. If the legend that Howard Hughes watched it over and over is true that alone would show he was off his rocker :-) I am working my way through a nice Bluray set of Werner Herzog's early films and Thursday night was Aguirre, the Wrath of God. It is a true journey into the "Heart of Darkness" film. The opening sequence is stunning and it, as well as his other film made in the Amazon forest Fitzcarraldo, are worth your time. His remake of Murnau's Nosferatu - Nosferatu the Vampyre is also worth a look - if only for the fact that some scenes were filmed at the same spots. WH captures nature and magnificent scenery like few others and all three of these films have great examples of this. Roger Ebert's review of the film is absolutely spot on!! I really wanted to like it, generally I enjoy Rock Hudson films, but aside from a few nice shots of the frozen ocean, the snow and Borgnine spurring on Jim Brown to hit him with a crowbar I honestly can't see what on earth they were thinking in making it!! Actually Aguirre is already near the top of my to watch list and I spotted the remake of Nosferatu in my 1001 movies book. Olympia and The Bakers' Wife from 1938 I think is all I have left now and then I'll have seen almost all the films in the book up to 1956!... I've long been looking forward to tackling such European masterpieces of the 60s and 70s of which the book has many... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:44, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Big feature films of the era often had a program that you could by in the lobby. I think I still have the one for ISZ in a box somewhere. Now the memory is hazy and this is WP:OR and WP:SYNTH on my part but I think Hollywood thought that turning Alistair MacLean novels into films was a money making proposition in the 60's and 70s. While The Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare are on my favorite "Adventure films" list the others are so-so films and most don't match up to the books very well. Glad you enjoyed them. The documentary My Best Fiend shows how correct you are about KK. The story is that he was in 130 some odd films and the only director he worked with more that once is Herzog. Query on map functionality

Frietjes seems to be willing to make something happen. However, due to the extensive use of the template, he wants a consensus to be formed regarding the ultimate final format. At User_talk:Frietjes#Template_coding, he has presented the various cartographic possibilities. Personally, I don't think a reader should have to get by with less than 3 or 4 of the map options that he has presented. E.g., Chicago has three maps and that is quite useful. Something in a neighborhood within Chicago should have a 4th map as well. Thus, a building like Broadway Hollywood Building or any other building would better serve the reader if we could present 3 or 4 maps. I would not be averse to all 5 maps that we have for that building. How did {{Infobox settlement}} come to their multi pin map consensus? Where was the discussion held and when? @We hope: All of them yeah! I love looking at old Bollywood film posters! They're all public domain I believe. Pre 1954 film posters of the 50s too. And with Kaayay it seems we're trying to cover every film :-). The stub was perfectly legitimate and contained info on the director, cast and release date. Do you honestly expect me to write a full length article on a Brazilian film from the 1920s?? Sources are in Portuguese. Do you not think that the stub was a step in the right direction in trying to tackle systematic bias? I'm not criticising you for wanting these stubs improved, but it is worrying to me that you're not bothering to look in google books to see if it is notable or not, and that you wouldn't even consider asking an editor courteously to expand. I thought we were trying to build the world's greatest encyclopedia, not tear it down. I am disheartened by those who choose not to even try to improve articles before tagging them for deletion. I'm not criticising editors for going through articles who want to see general quality improved. But if you want an article deleted from the encyclopedia purely for being short without bothering to search and prove there's no sources then that really isn't a good thing. It's lazy and irresponsible. In fairness, sometimes reviews need to take weeks. If an article is obviously good but not quite Good, and in particular if the nominator/primary writer/whatever is one of those people who tend to dig their heels in, then things drag on. No review at least for GA really needs to take weeks. Peer reviews and FACs which require multiple reviewers and a wealth of comments and time needed to address, then of course weeks are needed. Thanks, it's been ridiculous. I can't believe not one administrator here can ask people from skyscrapers.com to refrain from creating new accounts to try to force an urban image at Talk:Paris. So many situations which should have been dealt with swiftly have been allowed to continue on here because of the lack of intervention. I appreciate that people are busy but it does sort of defeat the object of having them if still new accounts are being created to stack votes. At least an admin should leave a notice at the top of the talk page saying "This is not a vote.
