Improperly licensed files[edit]

More improperly licensed files have been uploaded by you: File:Americapa.jpg File:Solohop1.jpg. The others which don't have the right license haven't been corrected. When notice of no rationale is given, you rectify this, but don't correct the license issues. Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Non-free:non-free album cover. I had been correcting them for some time now, but believe you should learn how to select the correct license yourself so these files don't fall into backlog. A couple things[edit]

First, great work on adding public domain images to the project. I'm curious, however, why you're adding these images to Wikipedia instead of to the sister site Wikimedia Commons. If it's on Commons, all the different language versions of Wikipedia can use it; otherwise, it's restricted only to the English version. Also, be careful about dating these images - most are 19th century but you've added 20th century dates (1943 instead of 1843); if that was correct, the images would not be in the public domain and, therefore, not be allowed here. Finally, I'm concerned about the lack of sourcing information on each of these files. Are you scanning them from personal copies? If so, say so. If not, say that as well. Imaging instructions[edit]

To use a picture on Wikipedia, we need permission from whoever owns it.

  • If it is your OWN picture - then you can just upload it yourself, at "Commons", saying "It is entirely my own work" - at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Upload .
  • If it is NOT YOURS, then the owner can give permission in two ways;
A) They could put it on a website (flickr, or their own site) with an appropriate licence, such as "Public Domain" or "Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike" (that is an option in flickr)
B) They could email us permission. You could ask them to do that, by sending them an email saying something like:
"Hi, I've written a page on Wikipedia, and I'd really like to add a picture - but as Wikipedia is FREE, we can only use freely-licenced pictures. If you have any which you can give permission for, please send me an email back with the text below, and the picture(s) attached."
-Then add a copy of this: http://enwp.org/user:chzz/help/myboilerplate (having filled the form out)
-And send the email (attached picture file + completed form) to: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org

Song covers[edit]

Please read WP:SONGCOVER and see how it serves to greatly limit the lists of cover versions in song articles. It sets a very high bar for inclusion, such that the cover version has charted, has been released as a single, has been discussed significantly in the media, or is discussed in sources that are primarily about the song itself. What falls away are otherwise unremarkable album tracks, B-sides, bonus tracks, live performances, TV performances, and actors humming the song in a film.

On the other hand, hundreds of unregistered editors keep adding this stuff to Wikipedia in the belief that every single cover version should eventually be listed. I have been working against this latter group to preserve the SONGCOVER guideline, which represents a consensus of editors at WikiProject Songs. Binksternet (talk) 02:50, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please not re-add this sheet music image. It's no longer needed and, as stated here, we can't justify its inclusion under fair-use provisions.
