Is it about time to remove indef protection from Newbie? The last 50 edits go back to 2012, and that was when it was last protected. We should see how it goes unprotected; I've already got it on my watchlist just in case. What do you think? Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 04:59, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

@Anarchyte: Though I don't share your idealistic optimism, the request is ever so much in the spirit of the Pillars and whatnot, so I'm giving it a try. Favonian (talk) 18:17, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) YMMV, but in these types of cases I usually put on a three month pending changes protect as a stepping stone to full unprotection to see how much disruption the article is going to experience. --NeilN talk to me 18:34, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Bad move of Jewish mythology?

I'm not clear why the history of Jewish mythology has vanished in the move by someone you've warned before.[1] I'd revert it but the history bit confuses me. Doug Weller talk 12:22, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: Oh God, him again! :( Looks like Jytdog already took care of it, so I contended myself with restoring Berenice I of Egypt to her more common spelling. Not sure what you mean wrt. vanished history. Looks intact to me, but maybe I misunderstood something. Favonian (talk) 18:13, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
When I looked it was a redirect with no history. See this. Are you going to warn him or? Doug Weller talk 18:33, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
I believe this statement makes it clear that he won't listen to me. Favonian (talk) 18:36, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
See the hatted material at [2]. I think I'll just NOTHERE him, any reason I shouldn't? Doug Weller talk 11:37, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
The only thing that keeps me from doing it is the fact that I already blocked him three times, so go right ahead. Wikipedia will be the better for his departure. Favonian (talk) 11:41, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Bob Blackman (politician):

Greetings Favonian. I wonder if you can have a look at the last I/P edit from what I assume is an agile address? This politician is one of several I monitor whose entry gets regularly sanitised prior to a general election leading to national newspaper comments. I have put some comments about correcting errors on the talk page. Is there anything else can be done if only for the sake of my blood pressure? Regards JRPG (talk) 18:48, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Since the information was sourced to something that doesn't look like the Daily Mail, I have reinstated it. If the effort is "systematic", a protection may be possible, but it could end up at BLP/N. Lots of potential for drama. Favonian (talk) 18:54, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I've also been trying to encourage the I/p to use the talk page but seriously doubt if he's looked at it. Hopefully he'll take more notice of you. Regards JRPG (talk) 20:34, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Edit Dispute

Hi, Favonian. I was reverted again by User:Nuobgu on List of Dragon Ball Super episodes. I refrained from counter-reverting him today. It appears that the user had been waging a silent "edit war" against me on both that article and List of Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS episodes. I tried to explain my edits and I even tried to start a discussion on his talk page to work towards a resolution, but he never responded to any of my messages, and he kept on silently reverting, without providing any explanation at all (save for 1 edit, which really didn't make any sense either). Since the user isn't responding to any of my attempts to start a discussion, I'm thinking that maybe he might listen to you instead? If not, I don't really know what to do. Can you please help out. The conflict really has to end. You can see his talk page, User talk:Nuobgu for more details. I wanted to see if you can help resolve this, because I really don't want to take it to WP:ANI. Thank you. LightandDark2000 (talk) 05:56, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

@LightandDark2000: Apart from being rather late answering (Real Life demanded my presence), I'm afraid I can't help you. The user in question is insufficiently responsive, but probably won't improve by being yelled at by me. As I am completely ignorant of the universe to which these articles belong, I won't be able to comment in any meaningful way. Favonian (talk) 09:09, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Your correction

I'm not a fan of automatic tools in editing wikipedia - their users are often faster than content editors (whose work is inherently quite slow- and often multi-step) and in many cases cannot tell an incomplete partway edit from a mistake or an act of vandalism. But this appears to be justified; I didn't pay attention to the quotation tags. So, thanks. 87.1.122.76 (talk) 15:01, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Nuking user sandbox page and a look at contributions

Hi Favonion, saw you on the recently active users list. User:ToolWiki23/List Sandbox/2017 White house attack strikes me as an entirely inappropriate userspace page (the user has even identified themselves as the assailant in the infobox). The user's deleted contributions do not inspire much confidence either, and with minimal edits to the mainspace I feel they are venturing into WP:NOTHERE territory. Thought I would bring it to an admin first, but happy to bring up the possible WP:NOTHERE issue at WP:ANI if you think it'd be better dealt with by the community. IP hopping F1 guy

Hello
See User talk:Favonian/Archive 42#Blocked editor and User talk:Favonian/Archive 42#Right on cue I think this might be our old chum. It geolocates to Andover which is an IP location which alternated with Salisbury (Rowdeford School) before the aforementioned move to Newbury. I still have a list of IPs used going back two years.

I only stumbled on it after a declinature notice was placed at Rowde's TP in respect of a draft abandoned since last October - slipped the net or it would have been G13'd by now - but which was submitted recently by a well-meaning 'uninvolved' editor. On which note, does the submission mean G13 has to wait? There have been no other edits to the draft since October.

It is almost certain that there will be other IPs used recently, if it is him and the usual pattern is followed (20 or so edits per day...IP changing at least daily) but have not found any others as yet. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 07:44, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

@Eagleash: Certainly him and the habitual range is blocked until January next year. Could you have a look at Jesschool, please? The history of this draft seems to point the finger. Favonian (talk) 16:24, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Yes I think that is probably him. Several 'boxes ticked'. He has been known to edit Moto GP pages in the past as well as soap opera articles. The new articles created have some of his trademarks. Eagleash (talk) 17:14, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I have blocked the account and deleted various of its creations, leaving further cleanup in you capable hands. ;) Favonian (talk) 17:27, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I will have to keep an eye out for other edits. Is it OK to G13 the draft mentioned above? Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 22:09, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
@Eagleash: Below is a list of (forcibly) abandoned drafts, sorted by date of last edit. G13 appears to be considered controversial by some, so I'll go by the book and eliminate the stragglers as they turn 6 months of age. Favonian (talk) 18:46, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
  1. 2017-01-15: Draft:Eagle 987
  2. 2017-01-29: Draft:Bahrain GP2 Series Round
  3. 2017-02-04: Draft:Penske PC-21
  4. 2017-02-06: Draft:Indycar on ESPN
  5. 2017-02-15: Draft:Indycar on Sky
  6. 2017-03-22: Draft:Matra MS640
I've got most of those on my list except the Eagle and Bahrain pages. There's also Draft:F1 Rewind (the one noted above). There were over 20 abandoned or barely started drafts when he was first blocked. Got them down to those now. I have also deleted, via MfD, some 15 userpages which were often duplicates of rejected &/or deleted pages. One of his 'tricks' was to start identical pages in main- draft- and userspace. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 19:11, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Ambrosius Aurelianus

Why did you lock the article? Dimadick is totally in the wrong here. I have removed factually incorrect content from two totally fringe authors (per WP UNDUE WEIGHT) who are absolutely not Arthurian scholars (as Dimadick incorrectly claimed). Please consider unlocking it so the offensive material can be removed. Cagwinn (talk) 21:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Classic content dispute, and "offensive" is hardly the right term. Get ye to the article talk page! Favonian (talk) 21:39, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Dimadick is hardly an expert on this subject and bears some sort of weird grudge against me - now I have to jump through hoops to validate my perfectly justified edits and Dimadick is openly insulting me on the article's talk page. The material is "offensive" in that it is fringe nonsense. Cagwinn (talk) 21:48, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Just to make one thing clear: the alternative to page protection would be wringing the necks of both you edit-warring gamecocks! It's not like you lack experience. Now, confine your discussion to the article talk page! Favonian (talk) 21:50, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Give me a break! It's seems like the admins don't want Wikipedia articles to be accurate and reflect current scholarship. Why do I even bother? Might as well let the idiots rule. Cagwinn (talk) 21:53, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Blade Runner, Replicant, and Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human links. 15:27, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

I was viewing the history of the Blade Runner article, and I have to ask; are you sure that the Blade Runner article needs eight separate links to Blade Runner, seven separate links to Replicant, and four separate links to Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human? Just asking. Don't get me wrong, Blade Runner is in my top five favourite movies of all times, however, I'm pretty sure that the Blade Runner article only needs one Blade Runner link to the various different Blade Runner articles. 50.64.119.38 (talk) 15:27, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

Didn't check the tally, but if the numbers are correct then it would go against WP:REPEATLINK. Favonian (talk) 17:47, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

Sorry Favonian. I had the wrong article. The article with all the links is List of Blade Runner characters. I was trying for some humour with all the links to Bladerunner. (Jackass is probably the word you're looking for). However, the reason I mentioned it to you is because I was wondering why you reverted the attempt by User:Usa60527 to thin out the superfluous links? 50.64.119.38 (talk) 03:28, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

You did not "have to use bad words". Your editing has been consistently disruptive, and Wikipedia is better off without it. Protection stays! Favonian (talk) 14:41, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Nawaz Sharifs Wiki

Hi, I am just curious on why have you reverted the changes to Nawaz Sharifs Wiki. I mean he is now a lifetime disqualified ex Prime Minister on corruption charges, more over the each user needs to know upon reading the first sight of his front Wiki. Do you agree?

We are talking about this revert of mine. There is no such office as "Former Prime Minister". He was Prime Minister for several terms, the last of which ended today, and that is what the infobox should reflect. Favonian (talk) 15:21, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Bit more about G13

Hello,
Following the disc. about g13 in the section above re F1 IP guy, I was wondering about a situation that hasn't arisen before (in my experience). A couple of weeks ago I tagged Draft:Brendan Kelly (politician) as abandoned and another editor immediately removed the tag saying "object to speedy". No other reason given and seemingly an uninvolved editor. No further edits have been made to the draft so it is still abandoned. Is there a procedure here, or can it be 're-tagged'? It hasn't been worked on since January but there were 2 or 3 editors involved in its early days, 2 IPs and one registered...who don't seem to have edited at all since. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 10:17, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

Regrettably, that's how CSD works, and any attempt by "trigger-happy admins" to override rationale-depleted objections will lead straight to the town stocks. I should now read from scripture, where it sayeth that the next step is MfD, but why bother? Favonian (talk) 10:23, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
I thought that was probably the case. Had a couple of similar incidents with Rowde's drafts. I found a way round those though. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 14:08, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

@Salimfadhley: Hardly a mystery. To my knowledge, we cannot force an article into incubation. If the author insists on dragging it into main space, he shouldn't be surprised when it's taken to AfD! Favonian (talk) 17:12, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

User:Krajoyn

Not to be obtuse, but edit-warring and refusal to discuss controversial changes seems pretty distinct from NOTHERE. Maybe escalate here on the off chance that they might eventually learn how to use the talk page. An escalation from 48hr to indef seems... sudden. TimothyJosephWood 23:01, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

@Timothyjosephwood: We may quibble about words, but this person is not just an unfortunate edit-warrior. Soon after getting himself blocked the first time, he proceeded to evade the block using at least two IPs. When the block expired, he wasted no time resuming the disruptive behavior, in particular the mulish refusal to explain, let alone discuss, his controversial edits. Under these circumstances, another temporary block is pointless. To be readmitted, some serious contrition and swearing of allegiance to all the pillars will be required. So far, all we've got are some emails to the tune of "I did nothing wrong". Incidentally, the discussions "Dealing with a reverting user?" and "Sockpuppet using same sources?" on this page are about the same person. Favonian (talk) 17:25, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Sockpuppet using same sources?

You might want file an SPI, Nectorbe and Krajoyn, the latter who sent me an email concerning the current edit war which includes Nectorbe. I noticed Krajoyn was using Clodfelter, just like the IP185.121.173.172, which oddly Nectorbe has restored unreliable information placed by said IP. --Kansas Bear (talk) 15:09, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Had to check if your account got blocked, giving me a chance to impose a purely punitive sanction against your IP. This not being the case, I assume that massive intake of beer during and after the match made you forget your password. Favonian (talk) 17:50, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

HarveyCarter?

Hi. Could you take a look at the edits of User:213.205.198.246 to see if you think it's HarveyCarter? I've expressed the opinion that it might be, based on the physical location of the IP and the general nature of the edits, but the evidence is less conclusive to me than usual (no edits to WWII articles, for instance). I think you probably have a better handle on his overall modus vivendi then I do, and could make a better determination one way or the other. Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 12:36, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

@Beyond My Ken: Problematic though this IP(s) is, I don't believe it's HC. To add to this, as I mentioned in my edit message, the date the ship was sunk (which is correctly May 24, according to sources in the article itself), is already included in the 'Fate' portion of the infobox. --Hunterm267Talk 20:58, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello Favonian and Indy beetle. This morning (my time) I filed a RFPP and the article has been protected. A few minutes ago I received an email from Genusat (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) about the edits made by K and the IPs to the article. Of course, they cannot edit the article at the moment and it is possible that they will never use this account to edit but I wanted to make you aware of the situation for future reference. Regards to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 02:19, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

@Favonian: I'm not sure, but we might be dealing with a new sock here. It's a similar uncommunicative editing pattern to the Second Italio-Ethiopian War article again. Something to watch out for. -Indy beetle (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, Indy beetle! He'd already caused a ping on my radar and the latest (unexplained) revert nailed it. Favonian (talk) 20:01, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

I apologize, this is getting bloody ridiculous. But another editor, User talk:Tahurus, has been making some edits to the Second Italo-Ethiopian War page that can't help me think of our original sock-puppeteer, User talk:Krajoyn. Originally they added several problematic photos which I removed. They briefly wrote on the talk page that the photos were "from wikipedia" as their explanation, but I explained in detail the copyright problems most of them posed. They did readd the photos before I responded, which Elmidae reverted. Elmidae then noted a most curious observation on the talk page, that "[Tahurus] spent yesterday in what is basically low-level vandalism to get to auto-confirmed status." Tahurus' contributions would seem to support that conclusion. In that case, it appears the editor was trying to circumvent the semi-protection on the Second Italo-Ethiopian War. They did also make another edit that added a different photo with licensing issues and tried to change the statistics in the infobox. It could be, User talk:Krajoyn (the changing of the statistics was a hallmark of him), but this would require a sock investigation for confirmation. -Indy beetle (talk) 22:49, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

@Indy beetle: Disruptive, edit-warring, POV editor – definitely – but I don't think it's Krajoyn. Though the latter is no talk page enthusiast, he does write copious emails, Tahurus' command of English is somewhat inferior in comparison. Favonian (talk) 17:38, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi Favonian. Don't know quite what is going wrong or if its a global or Windows 10 update phenomenon but I came back from holiday to find every page on my watchlist had vanished. Good grief, JRPG, that's pretty damn awful. I have never heard of anything like that happening. The only way that could happen, short of a system snafu, is if you hit "Clear the watchlist" in the line just under the "Watchlist" header. I don't dare try it out, but I would assume it has a confirmation button. You could try and post a question on WP:VP/T. Favonian (talk) 05:55, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

146.198.27.192 - repeat of previous behaviour

IP appears to be the follow on of previous blocked IP user which edited several mainly Leicestershire statistical and tabulated articles with high-speed edits but never any summaries. The editor has focused their efforts this time on the List of tallest buildings and structures in Leicester article, in their usual style of clogging up the page history and excessively complicating existing tables and data.

User has, within days been warned and instructed by several other users including myself to no avail, as it falls of deaf ears.

While you can never be 100% it's all the same user due to being IP based, but their style is so similar that there is almost no doubt here.

Rehash of the user's history is:
