I am trying to create a page and it keeps getting deleted saying it has been copied from LinkedIn. I have access to all this information, but if I cite anything it says it's a promotional page, so I have changed the content and now it is being deleted again. |

On the page linked above, under the section "April 28, 2013 Wikinews articles" (scroll way down), there's stray HTML text. I can't edit the page, so can someone else correct that? On a related note, the infobox on the right side of that page used to be at the top. Links such as "Suggest a headline" were easy to find at the top of the page, so is the current placement an error or the new layout? Best, 75.93.145.185 (talk) 03:08, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- I don;t see the stray tags you're talking about. Can you be more specific about what you're seeing? RudolfRed (talk) 03:17, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's odd. Maybe I purged the page or something, but the layout looks normal again. Not sure what happened. Thanks for the reply though. Best, 75.93.145.185 (talk) 03:39, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Denny Fitch aka Dennis E. Fitch, Sr.
My husband, Denny Fitch, is listed in Wikipedia. Wikipedia incorrectly lists only his 1st wife, GeneAnn. Denny and I were married from June 26, 2000 until his death on May 7, 2012. There are several articles that substantiate this. See Daily Herald Newspaper article written by Burt Constable dated 10/15/10 and Daly Herald Newspaper article written by Marni Pyke dated 5/8/12. Yurs Funeral Home obituary and Huffington Post articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosafitch (talk • contribs) 03:21, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, Rosafitch. My sympathies for your husbands passing.
- Unfortunately, I am unable to find the articles you mentioned using Google. Do you have a link to an online version of them? Also, you can add sources to an article yourself, as explained at Wikipedia:Citing_sources, or with templates from Wikipedia:Citation_templates. However, since you are the person in question, this may constitute a conflict of interest. If you were to edit the article yourself you should follow these instructions found at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest: "Conflict of interest editing is strongly discouraged. COI editors causing disruption may be blocked. Editors with COIs who wish to edit responsibly are strongly encouraged to follow Wikipedia policies and best practices scrupulously. They are also encouraged to disclose their interest on their user pages and on the talk page of the article in question, and to request the views of other editors. If you have a conflict of interest, any changes you would like to propose that might be seen as non-neutral should be suggested on the relevant talk page or noticeboard." Sophus Bie (talk) 06:19, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you, Rosa, for coming here and asking rather than just editing it yourself; and I apologise for the lecture which Sophus Bie has given you telling you not to do what you are already not doing. AGgoogle search immediately turns up this, which confirms what you say, so I will go now and edit the article (unless somebody has already done so). --ColinFine (talk) 16:36, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- An unregistered editor had changed his listed spouse from his second wife, the requester, to his first wife. That was an irresponsible edit, but it happened long enough ago that there is no point in following up other than the correction that has been made. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:26, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- FBO others, ObitFinder is a good tool for finding many newspaper obits, and FindAGrave is a good tool to find gravesites, which often have headstone pics with dates (though some of their contributors copy from Wikipedia articles without attribution ). —[AlanM1(talk)]— 15:21, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- ColinFine, what I wrote was not intended as any sort of lecture, and I am rather hurt that you assume that I was acting in bad faith. Sophus Bie (talk) 10:00, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Double Brackets Edit Summary
When placing double brackets around a word what would an appropriate or useful edit summary be? I searched Wikipedia for an answer but could not find one. All I could find was something about "red links" but what I'm asking about is creating "blue links" when placing brackets around a specific word/words. 24.90.154.201 (talk) 04:12, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Can someone move the above article to Hamilton Crowne Plaza and create a redirect page for Hamilton Hotel (Washington, D.C.)? Best, 75.93.145.185 (talk) 04:37, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have a source that we can reference for the page move? Also, if you create a registered account, you can do the page move, but please provide a reliable source. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:27, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- For "Hamilton Crowne Plaza", references include the hotel's website and the fact Wikipedia policy states we should avoid adding "the" in article titles unless it's part of the proper name (which in this case, it isn't, just as "Washington, D.C." isn't part of the proper name), and no other Crowne Plaza hotel articles include the word "the" in their titles. For "Hamilton Hotel (Washington, D.C.)", the historic name of the building and the name it was listed under when added to the National Register of Historic Places last month is Hamilton Hotel. Since Hamilton Hotel is a disambiguation page, the city needs to be added to the redirect title. Also, the NRHP project's style guide says to add the city in parentheses to address disambiguation issues. Best, 75.93.145.185 (talk) 21:49, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

I apologize if this is a misinterpretation, but it is our aim here not to do people's homework for them, but to merely aid them in doing it themselves. Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. If you need help with a specific part of your homework, feel free to tell us where you are stuck and ask for help. If you need help grasping the concept of a problem, by all means let us know. Redirect page blanked
If I come across a redirect that was blanked by a user because they claim the redirect creation constitutes vandalism, should I restore that redirect or bring the blanked redirect to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion? I am not knowledgeable enough about the subject to be able to judge the validity of the redirect. The redirect might be just a hoax or maybe not. I couldn't find the name of the redirect page on the target page (searching with the search function of my browser). -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:35, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- It shouldn't be left as a blank page. Restore the redirect code. If nothing at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion applies then you can either retarget the redirect, or take it to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion, or leave it with an edit summary saying something like: "We don't blank redirects. If you oppose the redirect then nominate it for deletion with WP:CSD or WP:RFD". PrimeHunter (talk) 12:01, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Done I restored the redirect and raised the issue at RfD. Thanks PrimeHunter. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 14:10, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, disruptive editors sometimes claim to be reverting vandalism when they are engaging in vandalism. Page blanking is a form of vandalism. The editor, whether registered or IP, who blanked the redirect should be given a warning for vandalism. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:07, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

- I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6.9 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. --ColinFine (talk) 00:12, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Blocking someone
I manage Artie Kornfeld, founder of Woodstock 69 Artie Kornfeld
The below email I received that a person named Walor, keeps changing the information on Mr. Kornfeld's wiki page and he does not have authorization to do so. Is there a way to block someone from changing the content?
The Wikipedia page Artie Kornfeld has been changed on 5 May 2013 by Walor, see Artie Kornfeld for the current revision. Bbentllc (talk) 04:36, 5 May 2013 (UTC) Brenda Brown or sign in bbentllc
- The removal of promotional WP:WEASEL language was needed. Neither you nor the subject of the article WP:OWN it or its content, so blocking someone else for editing it without your consent is not going to happen. Please read some of the bluelinks I provided for you, and go check out WP:COI, especially. Cheers! Heiro 04:42, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
A quick clarification
Are IPs allowed to review good article nominations? Sir Rcsprinter, Bt (barney) @ 08:06, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- In the lead of Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions it says: "Articles can be nominated by anyone, though it is highly preferable that they have contributed significantly and are familiar with the subject, and reviewed by any registered user who has not contributed significantly to the article and is not the nominator." (emphasis mine). Then, under the reviewing section it says "To review an article you must • be a registered user—make sure you are logged in". It's always possible this was someone who forgot to log in though.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Why does your your default editing message use the word "edits"? Edit is a verb not a noun. Sheesh! Yipes! And, no, I'm not logged in.

Orphaned Images from Commons
Hello. I have a quick question about images uploaded to Commons. I recently uploaded File:Tree Sparrows IMG_6370.jpg (I don't know how to put the link in without the image showing) to Commons, and it was automatically transferred to the English Wikipedia. However, it is not used in any articles. Is it still liable to be flagged with template:orphan image? Passengerpigeon (talk) 11:25, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Passengerpigeon, You don't have to add the orphan image template since that is for use only in English Wikipedia files. It's not even possible to add it to en wiki description page since Edit tab is not there. And files can be linked by File:Example.jpg (notice the colon). --Ushau97 (talk) 11:33, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. Passengerpigeon (talk) 11:35, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Passengerpigeon. To expand slightly on the above, images that are on the Commons are seen and can be used here natively but they are not actually here. When you go to the image page here, you are just seeing its display. Note that it says below the image "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. Information from its description page there is shown below." So no, it is not at all liable to be flagged as orphaned. Someone who was confused in the same way could click on "Create this page" at the local display, thinking to mark it as orphaned, but then they would see a message that said "This image is on Wikimedia Commons—not on Wikipedia. Any descriptions should be placed there", and even in the unlikely event they went ahead and created the page with an orphaned template, they would be incorrect to do so, and someone else would surely remove and/or delete it. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:13, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

User confusion
I don't know where is the right place to ask this, but sometimes, I might go on the Simple Wikipedia, but when I come back to English, I am on ”Darrman1“ when I got myself renamed here from that, to Darrman!? I think that would be stopped if my Simple rename request would go through, because the account still exists after rename... It happened twice to me, so if at all possible, could anyone delete User:Darrman1 and stop account creation? At least block the account if that's not possible. Or if the person who answers this knows a Simple 'crat that can finish my rename? That would fix my problems. I don't want to be blocked, so could anyone help me? Darrman (talk) 20:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Blocking an account doesn't prevent you from logging in. Simple is still waiting for you to reply to simple:Wikipedia:Changing username#Darrman1 → Darrman. Make an edit to User talk:Darrman saying it was you who made the request at simple:Wikipedia:Changing username#Darrman1 → Darrman, and then post there saying you have made the edit. Removal of page: Gail Brady
Hi there, id like to remove a page about myself Gail Brady? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gailbrady (talk • contribs) 21:08, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- A link would help. Either way, there is zero chance that the page will be removed. We only ever delete articles on people if they're notable for one event (in which case that person's entry is redirected to the event) or if the content is libellous. Your article is neither.--Launchballer 21:28, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

- If some statement on the page is false, you should explain which statement, and give a published source for the correct statement. Then it will be corrected. Maproom (talk) 22:19, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, Launchballer is not correct. We do delete articles all the time because their subjects are not notable - which means in Wikipedia parlance that they haven't been written about in reliable sources independent of the subject, such as newspapers. The wishes of the subject have very little to do with it: if the person is notable, there may be an article (and it is important that the content is referenced from reliable sources) and if the person does not pass the notability criterion, there may not be an article. Now Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL does not seem to turn up any obvious sources (note that iMDB is not considered reliable, because it is user-edited, like Wikipedia), so unless somebody can find some sources, the article Gail Brady should indeed be deleted, as non-notable. --ColinFine (talk) 22:58, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- (later) OK, I have nominated the page for deletion. But if somebody else finds evidence of notability, and contests the nomination, I'm afraid your request will carry little weight. If it is retained, you should do as Maproom suggests. --ColinFine (talk) 23:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

I tried to change my residence on my Infobox Office Holder and the infobox no longer appears on my page. All of the information I want included in the Infobox appears first on my page, but not in the Infobox. Can you re-insert my infobox as it is now?
Thank you, William C. Chasey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bchasey (talk • contribs) 21:41, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- In [3] you missed one of the two ending brackets in a link. I have fixed it.[4] PrimeHunter (talk) 21:46, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- But please be aware of our policy on conflict of interest: what information is included in the infobox is determined by what the reliable sources say and by consensus, not by your choice. --ColinFine (talk) 23:05, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

'I suspect, based on your question'
The language: "I suspect, based on your question ..." is frequently used in response to questions that are not about how to use Wikipedia but about general knowledge. Is there a template that substitutes that language? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC) ~
- It's from {{Astray}}. Like many other templates intended for subsitution, it leaves its name as a comment in the source:

Userboxes
I want to put userboxes on my user page. What page are the userboxes on? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:06, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- You can start on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Gallery. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:29, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- The gallery is more useful than the category of categories. Thanks. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:30, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- The entire collection is available at Category:Userboxes. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:02, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you. The entire category of categories is so large that it is difficult to navigate, but I will just muddle along. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:47, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Language Template for Article Talk Page
Where are the templates that can be put on article talk pages to specify what national version of English should be used for an article? (I am not referring to an article about a place or a historical event associated with a country or a biography, because in those the language should usually be obvious.) Robert McClenon (talk) 00:11, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Relatively straightforward. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
User talk deletion
I'm incredibly confused on whether or not this is in the help section so I apologize if it is. A while back I left my wikipedia account up and a friend went on it and posted obscene things and of course they were removed, but I don't want them showing up in my user talk page or my contributions tab. Can you please explain how I can have my user talk contributions deleted in a simple way? Or if I can delete the individual contributions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haharyne (talk • contribs) 01:25, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Wrong photograph
Hello! My name is S.D. Perry, I'm a writer, and some nice person created a Wiki page for me. However, the photograph that appears on the page is NOT ME. I have no idea who it is. I would be happy to submit a picture, if you like, but either way, the picture on my Wiki page should be removed.
Thank you for your time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.186.85 (talk) 02:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Which article are you referring to? I don't see any photo at S. D. Perry RudolfRed (talk) 02:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Are you by any chance referring to a photo shown to the right of a Google search on S. D. Perry? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt can be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:32, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- If PrimeHunter is correct and that is the photo you mean, clicking on it takes you to shelfari.com. You need to talk to them. Rojomoke (talk) 05:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- As Google's Knowledge Graph appears to be resulting in a lot of questions at the Help Desk I have just created a new standard response template, based on PrimeHunter's response above. You can find it at {{HD/GKG}}. As with all HD response templates, it should be substituted.--ukexpat (talk) 15:16, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Problem with Template:Infobox rail line on New Haven Line
Looking at New Haven Line, it appears that {{Infobox rail line}} is supposed to appear on the page, but the infobox is not showing up there. The only sign of the infobox I see is the words Template:Infobox above the first paragraph of text. Can anyone help figure out why the infobox is not displaying properly? Thanks. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:39, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Update: I figured out that what was causing the infobox to malfunction was the following line in the infobox:
- map= {{infobox rdt|New Haven Line map|navbar=1}}
I removed that line and the infobox showed up again. However, this removal means that the route map is gone from the infobox. Is there any way to have the infobox and include the route map within it too? --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- When I tried adding it back in, I got a message "Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included.". So that5 is the reason for the problem. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it though: perhaps put the route map separate from the infobox? --ColinFine (talk) 10:43, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Hey this site was about me and is the first thing that comes up when you look up my name, I don't know who wrote it but it was really accurate and pretty mean. I removed the content but could you please remove the webpage as it keeps coming up as the first search link. Thanks so much 198.151.130.129 (talk) 05:43, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- The page has been deleted from Wikipedia. I don't know if anything can be done about cached copies of the page as it used to be showing up in search results, but they should eventually disappear. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

- Wikipedia:Sandbox is a public page where new users can experiment with editing - anything you do there will quickly be overwritten by others so it's not a suitable place to draft articles. See Wikipedia:Your first article for instructions on creating a new article, and Help:Editing for editing tips. Please note that Wikipedia already has an article about Search engine optimization - any additional content or improvements on the subject would go into the existing article rather than a new one. - Karenjc 08:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Task force without WikiProject
Is it okay to create a task force that is not attached to a WikiProject? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- While there's certainly no rule against it, I don't think it would be properly called a "task force" in that case. WP:TASKFORCE says that a task force is a "non-independent subgroup of a larger WikiProject," so I think a parent WikiProject is a necessary condition for calling something a task force, and thus whatever it is that you're interested in creating would likely go by a different name. What is it exactly that you want to create? Sophus Bie (talk) 10:13, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that's a bit of a longer story. I am an NFCC enforcer and perform a task to identify and deal with 10c violations as outlined at User:Toshio Yamaguchi/NFCC task. That task was originally supposed to be performed by a bot. Unfortunately, that bot never materialized (not due to lack of consensus for such a bot I think, but because nobody coded it). After that was clear, I took over the bots task myself and I am performing the task as outlined on that page. However, the number of violations is huge and I my progress is rather slow, so I would definitely appreciate any helping hands on that task. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 10:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Also, I do not have an estimate of many people would be interested in joining that task force (not too many I guess). Many of the NFCC patrollers (including myself) are active at WP:NFCR. However, bringing all 10c violations there is not possible, because there are too many of them and NFCR is already backlogged. I personally only bring NFCC#8 vios there or cases where I suspect the file shouldn't be tagged as NFC at all and the task I perform is supposed to handle the 10c violations without bringing them to NFCR. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 10:46, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Aha! That's a lot of work for one person; I can see why you'd want to organize a group to work on it. I think what you want to create would be called a WikiProject proper, à la Wikipedia:Typo Team, for example. No one says that WikiProjects have to be centered around broad topics, after all. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory/Wikipedia lists all sorts of projects dedicated to very specific tasks. Sophus Bie (talk) 12:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Mhm, I would have to think about how to go about that, since I already tried to establish a WikiProject for that purpose and failed. It's definitely an extremely sensitive area. On the other hand, I've experienced few problems with performing this task so far. So a coordinated effort might be viable as long as each participant tries not to act like a brainless bot and tries to follow the rules for the task. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 13:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that's a bummer. If you do decide to attempt the creation again, I noticed that User:Sven_Manguard, who seemed to be your main opposition, wrote, "Thinking about supporting it this time around." at the bottom of the page, so perhaps you'll have more success with a second try? Sophus Bie (talk) 14:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- I won't support or oppose any efforts. I've moved away active NFCC enforcement because I find the whole of non-free content soul-crushing, so I'm not going to support it, but if Toshio has been able to do it uncontroversially for all this time, I'm not going to oppose it either. Sven Manguard Wha? 15:36, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Given the Articles for deletion discussion with 3 keep and 2 delete votes I think there is a chance that the page might be restored. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:52, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia Entry for GlobalCollect
My company's page, GlobalCollect, was deleted almost five years ago for overtly commercial text. I fully understand and respect Wikipedia guidelines, but it can't have been the intention for the company to have received a "lifetime ban". How can APPROPRIATE content on the company be re-added to Wikipedia? Many thanks.
Crosebrook (talk) 12:42, 6 May 2013 (UTC)CRosebrook
- No, it was never a ban: it was a statement that that particular article, at that time, was unsuitable and could not be rescued. Assuming that your company satisfies the criteria for notability, it may have an article; but you are strongly discouraged from writing one, because of your conflict of interest (which easily leads to such promotional language even when you think you are being neutral). Have a look at WP:ORG, and then if you think the company is notable, I suggest you make a request at WP:Requested articles. --ColinFine (talk) 14:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

- In Special:Preferences, under "Advanced options" there's a field called "Watchlist token". Filling in this field with a secret key will generate an RSS feed for your watchlist. Anyone who knows the key in this field will be able to read your watchlist, so share that key with whomever you want to see your watchlist. You can't see other people's watchlists unless they share their key with you. Hope this helps. Sophus Bie (talk) 12:57, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

- The messages should be signed so there should be a link to the talk page of the editor who left it. If you leave your message on their talk page they will see it. (They may also watch your talk page for a response but that is less certain.) If it isn't signed you can check the history tab for your talk page to see who has edited it. Does this help? - Have you taken a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Citation templates? Taking a quick look at your most recent edits, it looks like your problem is thus: the <ref>this is a reference</ref> must go above the {{reflist}} on the page, or it won't work properly. Why are Little Barrier Island and Richard Evans (British author) watched so often?
I just found Wikipedia:Database_reports/Most-watched_pages. Most entries at the top of the list are obvious. But how about Little Barrier Island (rank 16) and Richard Evans (British author) (rank 22)? Does anyone has a theory about this? --Zulu55en (talk) 14:40, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have no actual idea, but I have a guess. My guess is that there were edit wars on these articles in the past, and that Requests for Comments were publicized, and a large number of users watched these pages. That is a guess. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- It’s clear now: Talk:Little Barrier Island#Why is this the most watched page on Wikipedia? and moving of the Introduction talk page to Richard Evans (British author) and back afterwards, so all the watchers of the Introduction page – which at the moment is the second most watched page here with 16562 watchers and surely had thousands of watchers already in 2007, when the article has been created – were automatically transfered to the new article. --Geitost 17:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Strange errors in a cite
Please take a look at reference #68 on West Wetlands Park (Yuma, AZ) - it cites a United States Geological Survey (USGS) publication and from what I can make out it is supposed to have a very specific format but I have no idea where to find relevant guidance. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Heya, looks to me that the META tags from the source page got copy/pasted into the ref. I, as a layperson, interpret the meta tags to be the USGS's requirements for displaying information on the USGS website. It doesn't look relevant to us and could probably be deleted from the reference. [view-source:http://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/ofr80335 Page source.] What do you think? - You accidentally deleted the AFC review template, I put it back for you. The template contains "When you are ready to resubmit, click here." that's what you need to do. However, you need to fix two of the references before you submit it again as they have become broken. BTW the page has been moved to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Philip Awadalla, your sandbox now contains only a redirect. The article does not prove the subject's notability - all your sources are by the subject but notability requires that you use sources about him. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi User:Cag-anjos, I have made some changes to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Philip Awadalla so it now cites some independent sources. Edit it further if you like and then re-submit the article. Yaris678 (talk) 23:36, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Richard A. Hellman
Dear Sir/Madam:
I am writing to ask your advice on how to fix the following situation. It has come to our attention that the UNEP logo and name are being inappropriately used in a Wikipedia article on Richard A. Hellman (Richard A. Hellman). Richard A. Hellman has been using UNEP's logo without our authorization, in violation of UN rules, and has been associating himself with a defunct group known as “Friends of UNEP” which has not existed for many decades. Through using this false affiliation, he has associated himself with UNEP while making statements that do not align with UNEP’s and the UN’s views. Since Richard A. Hellman is not authorized to use UNEP’s name and logo, or to claim, imply or suggest in any manner to represent UNEP or its views, we ask your help in removing the logo, and all references to "Friends of UNEP" from the Wikipedia article. I look forward to your advice. Many thanks and kind regards, Regional Director United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.105.109.178 (talk) 19:49, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have removed the logo from that article per the non-free content criteria. --ukexpat (talk) 20:12, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, it's UNEP, USA that hasn't existed for several decades, and you'd like us to clarify that in the article? Was there any press coverage of the UNEP USA closure/ceasation? Was it succeeded by the UNEP Regional Office of North America? -- Zanimum (talk) 22:27, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm new to all this. I wanted to report a delete article about a place that still exists.
The wiki article regarding Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, NY is deleted for some reason. The facility still exists, I worked there VERY recently. They are currently expanding. Twitter: original post of tweet
In the article Friday (Rebecca Black song), there's mention made of a tweet deeming it the "worst video ever made?" There are references in the articles to news articles mentioning this tweet. Along with those YouTube Trends and Mashable articles, I cite the original tweet. While I didn't try to defend it in the failed FAC, someone raised it as an issue. Is there any way to link to the original tweet, without it being deemed an improper reference? -- Zanimum (talk) 22:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Why link to the original tweet? Just use a reliable secondary source. I suggest:
<ref>{{cite news|newspaper=[[National Post]]|last=Baldwin|first=Stephen|title=Five things you need to know about Rebecca Black’s Friday|url=http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/03/17/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-rebecca-blacks-friday/|date=March 17, 2011}}</ref>
- Note, though, that the lead section of an article is for summarizing content in the body of the article, so there's a problem here with this rather significant detail being only in the lead. It can be only in the body in full, with a summary in the lead, but not the other way around. Note also that usually when you source something in the body of an article, you don't need the citation in the lead, but that is not the case with quotations, which must always be sourced with an inline citation, even if repeated. could u help to use, thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanneDal (talk • contribs) 01:41, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Per the AfD page you linked: the article creator is a banned spammer, the page is overly promotional, and the notability of the subject is not established. RudolfRed (talk) 03:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- To explain a bit more what the deletion discussion and RudolfRed are saying: Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a directory or website host. It has articles about subjects not people's pages (or listings or profiles), and promotion and advertising of any kind is strictly forbidden. This means that articles are acceptable only if they cover subjects which are notable, which means that other reliable sources have already written about them; and the article must refer to those sources to show that the subject has been noted. It also means that the content must be written in a neutral way; and because of that, it is difficult for somebody closely connected with the subject to write a satisfactory article, and they are discouraged from trying.
- There are only two references in the current article, and neither of them looks to be a reliable source (the information probably comes from the singer himself). In order to prevent deletion, you will need to find the reliable sources I have mentioned to, and reference them in the article. Actually, I don't agree with the point in the nomination that the language is promotional: I don't think it is, but the article does contain a lot of unreferenced detail which should not appear unreferenced in an article about a living person.
- If you can find the required references, the best solution might be to ask an administrator to userfy the article, so you can work on it in your sandbox and improve it. But if there are no such reliable references yet, then there cannot be an article on Nurtuan at present. --ColinFine (talk) 09:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Article Creation Help
Hello there,
I work as an intern for the band Bestfriends. This specific article page has been in creation for a while:Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Bestfriends
Is there any possible way to speed up the process? What else would I need to help create the article? Any help would be much appreciated.

- See Wikipedia:Notability (music) and expect a bunch of COI comments as well. I find that User:CorporateM/How WP:COI would read if I wrote it puts in a friendly nutshell.--Canoe1967 (talk) 03:29, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- There are 735 pending submissions for articles to be created. All you can do is be patient. RudolfRed (talk) 03:30, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's true, but neither Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Bestfriends nor Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Bestfriends are currently submitted for review, so being patient is not going to help.
- I would suggest reading WP:42 and WP:REFB carefully, improving one or other of those pages using that information, and then putting {{subst:submit}} at the top of it to submit it for review. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:38, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- And also read WP:There is no deadline. If you are in a hurry, this suggests that you might be interested in the page for promotional reasons rather than to improve Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 09:23, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
We want to Give our organization's details in wiki.

- If your organisation has only formed recently, it is unlikely that it meets our inclusion requirements for companies and organisations. Once a degree of coverage has arisen in reliable sources, we will be able to have an article about BYCP. Wikipedia is not a news service; we aggregate pre-existing information from other published sources, rather than publishing original information. Yunshui 雲水 08:28, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Pingala
- Heading added by --ColinFine (talk) 12:16, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
This is with reference to the information about Pingala
In the section: Combinatorics There is a sentence : Pingala's work also contains'the Fibonacci number, called mātrāmeru, and now known as the Gopala–Hemachandra number.[5]
Its the other way round. Pingala existed before Fabonacci. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.84.184.140 (talk) 12:06, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- It is not saying anything about primacy. It is saying that the thing known in English as the Fibonacci number was described previously in Pingala's work. --ColinFine (talk) 12:16, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed. One of Fibonacci's greatest influences in European mathematics was the popularization of another Indian invention, what are commonly known as Arabic numerals but are really Indian numerals. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:59, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Citation Templates Protected
I'm sure I've toggled something because the citation templates are protected on my account at the moment. I am just working an article up in the sandbox. Any suggestion to get them working again?
Sidpickle (talk) 12:32, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- The templates found at Wikipedia:Citation_templates are generally always protected, due to their frequent use. However, that just means that there will be no changes to the templates themselves; you can use them regardless of whether or not they are protected. Taking a look at User:Sidpickle/sandbox, they seem to be working fine when you use them. Sophus Bie (talk) 13:17, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
They still do not respond when I click to open a fresh one. They did work when I started the article. Could just be a corruption. I'll work round it. Thanks for looking at it for me. Sidpickle (talk) 17:05, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- You need to be very careful with the syntax, one little error and they won't work.--ukexpat (talk) 17:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- It isn't clear to me what it means to "open a fresh one". What does that mean?
- I don't see anything terribly wrong with your citations except how you've used
|page=
. Oddly enough, that parameter is for page numbers. Anything other than page numbers corrupts the citation's WP:COinS metadata. There is a parameter for chapters,|chapter=
, which should have the chapter's title.
When I try to open the citation template for say web it does nothing. I think it may be a local setting my end now that I have thought about it. I just fiddled with the browser settings to see if this has sorted it.
Thanks again for looking into the issue.
Sidpickle (talk) 18:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Are you talking about one of the buttons on the editing window tool bar? If you are, then it isn't a citation problem but a toolbar problem.
Clinton Park.
There are two disambiguation pages for Clinton Park:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Park_%28disambiguation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Park_%28disambiguation%29
There is also something wrong with the entries for the section on the neighborhood park in Clinton Park, Houston.
I would appreciate it if some clever editor would straighten out this situation. There should be only one disambguation page, and there should be a link to the neighborhood park in Houston.--DThomsen8 (talk) 14:18, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Clinton Park (disambiguation and Clinton Park (disambiguation) are both redirects to Clinton Park. The first could reasonably be deleted as nothing links to it, but the mantra is that "redirects are cheap". What are you saying is wrong with Clinton Park, Houston? - David Biddulph (talk) 15:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Dealing with Hostile Posts
CipherCloud (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
The company CipherCloud seems to be the victim of a negative social media campaign. The company's Wikipedia page is now evidently part of this campaign. Because it's so easy to create a Wikipedia account, anyone can quickly remove any information they like - industry recognition, a list of company leadership, and any other information that's factual and unbiased but positive, and make broad-sweeping claims to hurt the company's credibility.
Certainly, the company can monitor this, and make changes while citing the reasons for them, but are there any other tactics available? What we're seeing here is not in the spirit of what Wikipedia was created to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IDigAwards (talk • contribs) 14:52, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm one of the people who edited CipherCloud page and removed your edits. As noted in the history of the article, it was substantially written by Allen Pogorzelski, Sr. Director of Marketing at CipherCloud. It had an "Advert" template when I first saw it. I tried to improve it a bit by removing unsourced claims. I also removed the "Leadership" section. Your username is IDigAwards and your only contribution, before you started edit war, was adding another advertising-like section to this article with the comment "CipherCloud has won some important awards that seem to be missing", adding non-notable awards. I suspect a sockpuppet account. If you have any relationship to the article subject, please stop editing the article. Dchestnykh (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

: A request for page protection might be in order. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:04, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- EDIT: After looking at the article, it appears that there are a number of issues with the quality of its content. Jargon, promotional language, etc. That there are other editors attempting to conform the article to WP:MOS and other Wikipedia guidelines doesn't mean there is a negative social media campaign active. Wikipedia is foremost an encyclopedia, and not an indiscriminate collection of information. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think IDigAwards should be telling us what Wikipedia was created to do. It wasn't created to be the Yellow Pages with color pictures. There is no campaign, there is no conspiracy, there is no cabal. I don't see the need for protection yet, personally, but I do think that IDigAwards should be careful in both their edits and their accusations. If three different people tell you you're wrong, you could be victim of a social media attack campaign, or it could be that you were wrong. Drmies (talk) 15:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- In response to this question, at least one more editor (probably several) has put CipherCloud on his watchlist and will help to protect it from being used for promotion. Maproom (talk) 19:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Submission for Handyman Matters
Hello,
I submitted an entry regarding the franchise organization, Handyman Matters Franchise Company (HMFC), on April 9th, 2013. Is this entry still being reviewed in the Wikipedia queue? Thanks for any information you can provide.BenWaymire (talk) 16:01, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Which user name did you use when you submitted the draft - you only have one contribution using this user name, and that is your question here. Alternatively, do you recall where you created the draft - at WP:AFC, in a user sub-page? Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 16:26, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Editing a page that has speedy deletion removed
Hi all,
I want to contribute to an article Payne (company) but I'm concerned that it may get nominated for speedy deletion as it was already nominated several months ago. Even though speedy deletion was removed I'm concerned that any contribution I make even with valid citations may mean its deletion.
As speedy deletion has been removed, does this mean that it will not get nominated again, and can only instead be reverted back to the state after speedy deletion was removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tauqsouth (talk • contribs) 19:07, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- If the page meets the criteria, it can be nominated again, but I wouldn't expect that to happen. It would probably get reverted back to a good version, or nominated through the normal (non-speedy) deletion process. Unless you have a conflict of interest, you should be bold and make the changes you want to. See WP:BRD for more details. RudolfRed (talk) 19:44, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think this is not correct. If a speedy nomination has been declined (by someone other than the article creator), it may not be renominated. It must go through PROD or AFD. (I swear this was a policy somewhere, but I cannot find it now.) Gaijin42 (talk) 19:49, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Its party of the CSD template, but I cannot find it in a policy. One way or another that is a discrepancy that should be resolved. Gaijin42 (talk) 19:51, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- If you want to contribute to the article and don't want your contribution to be lost by deletion, you can watch-list it, and if it is nominated for deletion by any of the deletion processes, you will be notified.
- If you have an affiliation with the company, please see the conflict of interest policy. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

- (ec) WP:SPEEDY says "A page is only eligible for speedy deletion if all of its revisions are also eligible.", so you're right. If there is a good version of the page, it can't be speedy'd. RudolfRed (talk) 19:58, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Add a company to Wikipedia
What steps to I need to take to add a local, but national, company to Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.128.0.178 (talk) 19:13, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Start by reading WP:42 and perhaps WP:Your first article, and then go to WP:AFC. Also, if you want to use existing articles about other companies as examples, make sure you are looking at ones that are at least listed as Good Articles. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:18, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Concerns regarding recent username announcement
My username on the English Wikipedia is "Neelix" and I am afraid that, because of the recent announcement about unifying accounts, I will lose my username. I am by far the most active user named "Neelix" across the various Wikimedia projects. As far as I know, there have only been a handful of edits made under that name on Wikimedia projects other than the English Wikipedia. On all projects other than the English Wikipedia, my username is "Ambassador Neelix". Is it possible for me to have a unified account across all Wikimedia projects under the name "Neelix"? If so, who would I approach about making this happen? Neelix (talk) 20:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- The process is at WP:USURP. What announcement are you talking about? Do you have a link? RudolfRed (talk) 20:07, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- From Wikipedia Signpost/2013-04-29/Technology report:
- SUL finalization announced: In an email to the wikitech-ambassadors list, staff member James Forrester announced the plans to convert all accounts into global ones, regardless of conflicts. Discussion is underway at the bureaucrats' noticeboard, and on Meta-Wiki.

Resolving a conflict tag
The articles treaty and foreign policy of the United States have been tagged as being in conflict with each other for more than a year. - A link would help, on this occasion I've added it for you. You need to have been here three days and made four edits (autoconfirmed, in other words) to be able to move pages.
DoneWell, that's weird. It's been salted so it can't be created. If you ask at WP:RFPP they will unprotect it for you and maybe even move it for you as well.--Launchballer 22:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)- The article was deleted and salted because there was consensus that it was promotional and involved a conflict of interest. Pages keeps getting deleted
I am trying to create a page and it keeps getting deleted saying it has been copied from LinkedIn. I have access to all this information, but if I cite anything it says it's a promotional page, so I have changed the content and now it is being deleted again.
