To constituent India's 16th Lok Sabha, general elections were held in April-May 2014. The result was announced on 16 May 2014. The main contenders were two alliance groups of the incumbent United Progressive Alliance and the opposition National Democratic Alliance; led by Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party respectively.

In Punjab, BJP has won 2 out of 3 constituencies in which they fielded their candidates. SAD won 4, thus taking the NDA (BJP+SAD) tally to 6. Arun Jaitley, a BJP heavyweight, losing to ex-chief minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh of the INC in the Amritsar Lok Sabha Constituency. In another astonishing turnout all the 4 lok sabha seats that the Aam Aadmi Party has bagged are from Punjab. Out of the 13 seats in Punjab, 6 were won by NDA, 4 by AAP and 3 by INC.

A few months back the BJP won a great round of elections at the assembly level and they have repeated the trend by sweeping the entire state, 25 out of 25 for the BJP in Rajasthan. BJP rebel Jaswant Singh, who fought as an independent candidate, looses Barmer constituency from BJP's COL. SONA RAM. Sachin Pilot of INC, a minister in the UPA, looses from Ajmer by a huge margin.
