Adding my name to an article

    Resolved

Hello, I'm the artist who created the CDC's Zombie apocalypse graphic novel called "Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic. I noticed in the following article about zombies in government media, that my name and my fellow artists were not mentioned. If possible, I'd like to have our names included.

    The article is: Zombie#Zombie apocalypse

Illustrated by Bob Hobbs, Colored by Alissa Eckert and Lettered by Mark Conner.

Proof of my claim can be found in this excerpt from another Wikepedia article:

"In October 2011, the CDC published a Zombie Pandemic graphic novella created by fantasy artist Bob Hobbs (layouts, pencils and inks), Alissa Eckert (coloring) and Mark Conner (lettering, assembly). [13]"

Thanks, Bob Hobbs — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:33D0:33E0:2DB0:884D:3841:FF22 (talk) 00:58, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The section in the Zombie article has a link to Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse, and that page clearly lists your name and the names of the others involved. I think that the illustrator information is a bit too specific to be included in the main Zombie article, as the book itself is only being touched on briefly in that article. This seems to be a repeated question from one or a few editors working on a few articles. See July 1, July 11, Aug 11, Aug 16, Aug 18, Aug 29, Sep 7, among others. It would be handy if editors, having asked the question, could remember the answers please (or look them up in the archives). - David Biddulph (talk) 09:42, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how to get a link to a past article version

Click to see image for more details

    Regarding my recent Audiopedia question.

....they would need to provide a link to the original page history, or the original Wikipedia page, which itself has a link to the history. A permalink to the version they used would be preferable....DES (talk) 18:26, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

How could a link to the original page history, or the original Wikipedia page or a permalink to the version used, be provided?

I can only find providing the link to the current article, which contains a tab for the article history.

If someone reuses a page from the past, example the article version from June 1 2015, how can a link to the June 1 2015 page be provided? I see articles have version #s in the history-compare differences, but the history tab list does not give the link,

    Thank you, CuriousMind01 (talk) 11:52, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Just click the 'History' tab to open the article's revisions history — for example, this is a history of this page:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Help_desk&action=history
then find appropriate version, for example, a revision from today, 18 September 2015‎ — and the hour-and-date of a revision is a hyperlink to that revision:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Help_desk&oldid=681626935
Just right-click it and choose 'Copy a link' or whatever it is called in your browser; or click it to open in a new view, then copy the URL from the browser's address bar. --CiaPan (talk) 12:07, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Caribpolitan

Hello, I've tried to publish the article below on wiki--an entry for the term Caribpolitan. It was deleted for reason A7: Article about a company, corporation or organization, which does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject.

Caribpolitan is similar to the term Afropolitan, which is listed on wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afropolitan

Is there anything I can do to get Caribpolitan listed? Thanks.

(By the way, my sources are at the bottom of the article here--I know I'd have to format them differently for the actual wiki entry.)

    draft article

CARIBPOLITAN /‘KAR-IB-POL-I-TAN/ is a term constructed from “Caribbean” and the Greek root “-polis”, which means city, citizenship or body of people. A Caribpolitan is a person of West Indian origin/descent living in a diasporic metropolitan community outside of the Caribbean. Examples of such urban centers with large numbers of peoples of Caribbean extraction include Flatbush, Brooklyn, USA; Miami, Florida, USA; Brampton, Canada; and Brixton, London, UK. For most Caribbean immigrants, their first encounters with neighboring islanders take place in these diasporic enclaves, and the similarities are undeniable. As a united people, Caribpolitans successfully transform and navigate spaces in metropoles while infusing unique Caribbean culture and ethos.

The term Caribpolitan was coined in 2015 by Shelley Vidia Worrell, founder and chief Curator of New York City-based non-profit organization CaribBEING, whose mission is to build community through the lens of Caribbean cinema, culture and art. It is similar to the terms Afropolitan and Negropolitan, but more geo-specific. Worrell, who is Brooklyn-born and of Trinidadian descent, describes her inspiration for the term: “[As someone] born here to Caribbean parents and travelling back and forth between the U.S. and the Caribbean, I’ve always felt this gap like you didn’t have the full American identity or this full Caribbean identity. I felt it was very important to start to define what that could look like. It started off with my own personal introspection quest for knowledge.” The term Caribpolitan has since been propagated via social media and adopted by many other people.

In 2015, CaribBEING launched an initiative called Close(r) Encounters: The Caribpolitan Experience, under the creative direction and leadership of Natalya Mills-Mayrena and Shelley Vidia Worrell. With the view of New York being “itself one of the largest Caribbean cities [in the world]”, the mission of this initiative is to contextualize and preserve the cultural literacy of Caribpolitan New Yorkers while redefining the Caribbean immigrant experience. The various events associated with Close(r) Encounters: The Caribpolitan Experience highlight the importance of embracing complex identities and cultivating social cohesion while still maintaining the idea of “back home”. Programming included a Caribbean film series at the Brooklyn Museum showcasing contemporary Caribbean cinema; an online exhibition and panel discussion in association with the Lower East Side Tenement Museum featuring interviews recounting tales of contemporary and historic immigration, and exploring Caribbean American identity; and re’Present!, a multimedia project designed to capture and document diverse stories of New York City’s Caribpolitan community with a focus on Brooklyn.

You should probably ask Bbb23, who is the administrator who deleted the page. Assuming the page was similar to what you posted above, A7 should not not apply as the article was not about "a company, corporation or organization." As for the sources you have posted, don't use Twitter as a source. The about page of caribbeing doesn't seem relevant, but the other two sources seem like a good start to the article. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:02, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the above content, if in an article, shouldn't be an A7 deletion. If Bbb23 doesn't agree you could go to WP:REFUND to ask for un-deletion. However, to have an article on a term on Wikipedia, we need significant evidence that the term is in use by published reliable sources other than the person or organization that coined the term, particularly if it is recent. I think the above, while a good start, would not be enough. Additional sources would be needed. While there are cases where Twitter can be used as a source for a statement sourced directly to the person who posted it, it is at best only reliable that that named person wrote that tweet. If possible, avoid it altogether. DES (talk) 16:42, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Julie rules, I just looked at the deleted version. It did not have the text above, merely the references with no text at all. It might well have looked like an article, and a very sparse one, about the organization "caribbeing".
I urge that you start over, using the article wizard again, but going to draft space and the articles for creation process instead of directly into mainspace. Also, first please read Your First Article and the golden rule of article essentials. Referencing for beginners might help, also. DES (talk) 16:52, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@TheRedPenOfDoom: It looks like Pisharikavu Temple is the more recent one and before the OP copied the information from Pisharikavu it only contained the opening line with a single ref. The ref was removed as part of the copy. The other other option would be to do a redirect from one to the other. --Stabila711 (talk) 18:17, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've declined the speedy (the article doesn't, I think, qualify as "recently created article with no relevant page history") and redirected Pisharikavu Temple to Pisharikavu. If anyone thinks that the redirect should run in the opposite direction, he or she is free to make it so. (Please transfer the maintenance templates, the ref, and the coordinates to Pisharikavu Temple when reversing the redirect, though.) Deor (talk) 11:49, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Easiest way that I've found to get the URL for a PDF or DOC that is found in google. Select the little down arrow that has Cached in it and instead select "related". It will go to a search page for related pages. The search box will look like related:www.foobar.com/whatever.pdf , just remove the related: and add http://. If it is already uploaded you would link to it the same way you link to anything on wikipedia, with brackets ( [[ ]] ). So to place the file test.jpg, you would do [[File:test.jpg]]. I recently just changed the age for Sam Sarong as it was at 39 for the past 2 weeks when before it was at 34 so I changed it back to 34 since its his correct age and I know him personally, how long does it take for google to recognize 34 is the correct age as I have changed it to 34 last night.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Sarpong — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caliboyx70 (talkcontribs) 02:33, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    • @Caliboyx70: Wikipedia really doesn't have control over what Google displays. It will update when it next crawls the page. However, there is a slight problem with you editing that page as you just admitted a close relationship with the article's topic. This is in direct conflict with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. In addition, we would need a reliable source that says his birth date is 1980. We can't just take your word on it. The references that are currently on that article place his birth year in 1975. The source of this is the Los Angeles Time article written in 1995 that describes Sarpong as 20 years old (which would make his birth year 1975). --Stabila711 (talk) 03:05, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Alright, so I looked at everything I could find and I could not find any source that puts his birth year as 1980. I found multiple references to 1975 and two references to 1979 but none for 1980. Since there are discrepancies I have removed the birth date from the article. Wikipedia not only requires reliable sources but also verifiability. --Stabila711 (talk) 03:31, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
      • Stabila711, I would think it better to list both years rather than neither when sources conflict, making it clear which sources support which date. Otherwise someone may find one of those sources and re-add one of the years, not realizing that there is a conflict of sources. DES (talk) 16:33, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You should also refrain from editing that page directly. For all future edit requests you should use the article's talk page. Dear Stabila711 when I first contacted you i let you know the correct age is 34, which would make him born in 1979 the source that says 75 is incorrect and i just sent you three sources that say 79,which is the correct year he was born, if you can please change it back to 34 i would truly appreciate it as the miss correct information is not a very good source this is very important because many people look up Sam and it is important that the information which has been up for a very long time that always said 1979 are still up, Somone changed his age on wikipedia two weeks ago, and that information is not accurate. If you can please change it back to what it was as soon as possible. It would greatly be appreciated. here are the names of the sites to show Sams age. the websites are hotbirthdays, famousbirthdays, and howold.co — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caliboyx70 (talkcontribs) 00:13, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is not unusual for people to arrange for incorrect ages to be recorded on websites. I've no idea whether this is happening here (I'd never heard of the subject of the article, and I'm not making any accusation about you, Caliboyx70, but are you claiming that he is not a year older than his younger sister June, or that he was only 17 when the Los Angeles Daily News wrote about him?). We need some reliable sources if we are being asked to record a definite age in Wikipedia. Dbfirs 06:07, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the extra articles. I didn't want to be too hard on our persistent intern who might possibly believe the publicity, but I hope this is the end of the attempted deception. Dbfirs 11:22, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Caliboyx70, you should be aware that an intern who is not paid directly, but who expects to recieve future professional benefits for the work s/he is doing, and who is working for a PR firm that is receiving payment for its representation of the subject, even if it is not specifically paid for the Wikipedia article, is still considered a paid editor and must disclose in accordance with the terms of use. sourcing vs. accuracy

I want to make sure I've exhausted every option before I throw my hands up and drop a brick on my head: How do I balance factual accuracy of information in an article against using inappropriate sourcing of updated information? Specifically, I want to update an article that is currently out of date (okay, by four months, but still...) The source that has correct/current information is questionable -- at best -- under the guidelines for biographies of living people. However, in not updating the information, the detail in the article is rendered factually inaccurate. Not to get into too much detail, but the subject of the article has perhaps unintentionally obfuscated by being existentially metaphoric about himself in public assertions (which is to say, his article is headed with a stage name that he has publicly retired, using the preface "R.I.P.") before relocating. All of the subject's personal public websites reflect his new data, which is neither here nor there (as it amounts to original research on my part), and at the same time, the base information is verified by what may be deemed an inappropriate source: that fact that the guy has information traceable through open and public court documentation that are required every time he relocates.

Perhaps this is answering my own question, but: would the best course of action be to simply remove the outdated information completely and not replace it with anything, since the only reliable sourcing for the current information does not come from either the primary subject directly or an otherwise "neutral" source? Absurdist1968 (talk) 03:32, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

While general answers are possible, it would probably be a better idea to tell us which article you're referring to. Rwessel (talk) 04:58, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is about Big Poppa E. "the subject of the article has perhaps unintentionally obfuscated by being existentially metaphoric about himself" – right, that's why we prefer reliable independent sources. Maproom (talk) 08:50, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I had to revert your edit. An article about employment websites can't possibly include every website of that type, and needs to focus on the most notable sites and developments (see also WP:WEIGHT). Can you remember some of the articles you edited? and roughly when? If so, look at the article's history, (tab at the top) and look for your edit, or just scan down the names - which may remind you.

Unable to Establish Secure Connection from Kindle

I have regularly accessed Wikipedia from my first generation Kindle for years without a problem. Starting about 3 months ago I get an error message "Unable to Establish Secure Connection". I only get this for Wikipedia and I always get it for Wikipedia. My Kindle still works in all other ways including accessing other internet sites. I reset my Kindle but it didn't help. Would appreciate any info. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.109.238.244 (talk) 22:45, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would imagine that this is due to Wikipedia changing to HTTPS connections in June (the url you are accessing is HTTPS://en.wikipedia.org instead of HTTP://en.wikipedia.org ). Older devices (and those with old firmware) that cannot access HTTPS websites will most likely receive an error of some sort. From a quick google, a lot of owners of old Kindle devices have also been having trouble accessing sites such as Facebook and Twitter (both of which use HTTPS) since November last year and Amazon/Kindle haven't been too helpful with a solution. Incorrect information about my great, great, great, great, great grandmother

The information regarding my great, great, great, great, great grandmother, Mary Campbell Willford is not correct. It has her marrying John Willford in the beginning of the information regarding her life and finally in the very end of the information he is correctly identified as Joseph. She did in fact marry Joseph Willford, not John Willford. Not sure how or who to contact to get this information corrected. Change in name of company - what to do?

    Resolved

What should I do in this situation? Wikipedia has an article about a company but the company has changed its name twice in the past year. Further, the products the company is developing have changed substantially over the past few years. The Wikipedia article is very outdated. I think the company is notable enough to merit an article (it's stock is traded).

I can think of some options:

    1) Keep the existing article but rewrite/update it considerably. The article name would have to be changed to reflect the new name of the company. I don't know how to do that (could someone point me to the instructions; I couldn't find them.)

    2) Create a new article under the current name of the company. Somehow set up a redirect from the old article to the new one. Again, this is something I have never done before. Carax (talk) 02:31, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carax in any case, a relaible source should be cited for the new name, although it could be a company-published source in a case such as this. Doing a WP:MOVE is the best method, as Stabila711 suggests above. Again, what company or article is this about? DES (talk) 13:50, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Reguarding bias against Homeopathy

Dear Wikipedia Editors It has just come to my attention in the article Extreme bias at Wikipedia on homeopathic medicine Thursday, November 13, 2014 by: Dana Ullman Which includes the paragraph "Because I know that we all want Wikipedia to be the best modern resource of reliable information, my intent in writing is to show you where Wikipedia is falling below your high standards, and in fact, Wikipedia's article on homeopathy is providing strongly biased, inaccurate information. This strong bias is a symptom of a deeper problem at Wikipedia in select articles on topics that challenge dominant medical and scientific worldviews. After reading the below body of scientific evidence on the subject of homeopathic medicine, I hope that we can engage in a dialogue that will help reduce the amount of misinformation that pervades certain subjects, such as homeopathy."

Are you funded by Big Pharma or something? Having done a great deal of recent research on the evils of Big Pharma due to my falling victim of antidepressant withdrawal - and how I even got sucked into them in the first place I can say I am now using homeopathy to try and rescue me from my trauma. And when it comes to such comments as the placebo effect - that is also said in many an article about antidepressants. This is divulged by whistle blowers on the whole horrible lie that Big Pharma have used to promote these toxic drugs. I have bitter experience in the problems they bring.

Without further ado - just reconsider your stance on this. Look into it further..The queen of England still works hard in her 80s with very little time off in her life with sickness - and homeopathy is her preferred health practice. And if anyone has enough money to utilize any health practice she wants...... Something to consider.

I have many a time referred to Wikipedia. I want to continue to trust it. Thank you Michele — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.185.2.39 (talk) 05:58, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of things: a) We are not an unbiased encyclopedia. We are biased towards the viewpoints which are well supported in reliable sources. Sometimes something is simply right and something else simply wrong. We can't write articles claiming that they are both equal in this case. b) We are funded by donations, mostly from educational institutions. They have no control on what we write in articles. Also c) while I am sympathetic about your health problems, what you said here really isn't a reliable source at all. WP:MEDRS has a better run-down of what is considered a reliable source in medicine. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:59, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there is no evidence that homeopathy works. It is just water and placebo. This is what reliable sources say and we say what they say. Supdiop (T🔹C) 09:17, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, Michele, a dichotomy between alternative medicine and Big Pharma is a false dichotomy. See Ben Goldacre as an example of a doctor who argues fiercely against alternative medicine and even more fiercely against Big Pharma. --ColinFine (talk) 10:39, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We have, inevitably, had numerous groups trying to alter Wikipedia's coverage of their subject, to how they want it to read, ignoring our fundamental principal to base our articles on Reliable, Independent, Sources. This came to a head in 2013 when the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) petitioned Jimmy Wales to change Wikipedia's policy. Their arguments, and Wales' response, can be read in this essay. We will not be changing our policies - Arjayay (talk) 12:03, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced sections with see also or main

Are references needed in a section marked with {{see also}} or {{main}}? Or should they still be marked {{unreferenced section}}? And if so, which template comes first? YBG (talk) 14:53, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If an example would help, see Numbered street §§ Baltimore, Denver, Detroit, and San Francisco. YBG (talk) 14:59, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Every article is stand-alone and must cite sources directly for its content. For some discussion of this matter, see Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 103#Citations on linked pages. I'm not sure if the order of the templates is captured in any guidance page, but my gut is that any section template about sourcing should go first. Even though a {{main}} tag is a navigation self-reference, it is much closer to a part of the content of the section proper that would be a bit strange to split from the content by placement above the sources tag.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:26, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Trimming URLs in references?

I have found a number of articles where the URL given for the reference includes information like utm_referer in the last part of the url which the site uses to determine which site (often a search engine) was used to access the page. The URL directs to the same location without these fields (often separately by ampersands). Is it appropriate to clean this information up? I'm not trying to be nice to the sites that these go to (though that is a pleasant side effect), but rather to the cleanest/clearest URL that wikipedia can use. Note, I'd be doing this by hand making sure the cleaned URL goes to the same page.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Francis_Xavier_Seelos&diff=prev&oldid=681960922 for an example of that type of change. Naraht (talk) 17:14, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Naraht, I'd say yes, looks like an improvement to me, I don't see what bad could come from this, only good. It might make it eaiser for users to copy and paste the link or to archive it, stuff like that. Rainbow unicorn (talk) 21:13, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to do a really thorough job of normalizing a URL (for example when adding a reference that contains a URL) we have a list of changes you can make at URL normalization. The change Naraht made in the diff above would be an example of what that article lists as "Removing default query parameters. A default value in the query string may render identically whether it is there or not". Another helpful tip: when the URL has a Canonical link element, use that. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:05, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    "policy" v. "content guideline" - WP:NOT v. WP:NOTE, WP:NFT

Should the content of WP:NOTE "notability guidelines" and WP:NFT be folded into the WP:NOT page in some way? It could be that I don't understand the distinction that Wikipedia makes internally between "policy" and "guideline".

What would be the procedure / Where would be the forum to propose an edit of those pages?

Background: Hi. I'm a new contributor, and have been slowly reading more Wikipedia internal documentation in parallel with my content contributions.

    Boruch Baum (talk) 07:44, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boruch Baum, the basic difference between policy and guideline is that a policy is mandatory while a guideline is optional. Policies are enforced, guidelines are not. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:09, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Boruch Baum: Another way to look at it is that Policies are the broad structures. Guidelines focus on common specific applications and/or how the concepts of more than one policy should be applied when they intersect. For example, WP:NTF is a more detailed explanation of WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_publisher_of_original_thought and how it intersects with WP:OR. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:46, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Biography of Living Person: Deletion Policy

    Hi,

There is an article that has been through the deletion process two times, and is now on its third go-through. It was actually deleted once, and then an editor put it back up. You can see the whole sequence of events by going here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Francisco D'Agostino (3rd nomination)

This seems like it could go on forever, except I saw that it is possible for the subject of the article to ask himself to have the article taken down: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Summary deletion, creation prevention, and courtesy blanking

Where it says this: "Where the subject of a BLP has requested deletion, the deletion policy says: "Discussions concerning biographical articles of relatively unknown, non-public figures, where the subject has requested deletion and there is no rough consensus, may be closed as delete."

So my question is: What is the process for the subject of the article, in this case Francisco D'Agostino himself, to request that the article be taken down? Who does he have to contact, and where does he send his request, and is there some way he will need to prove his identity?

    Thank you.Pangera (talk) 08:37, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He can create an account and do it that way, but generally speaking such requests go to OTRS (info-en@wikimedia.org). Yunshui  08:47, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First, you put URL with an 'equal' sign in it, which may conflict with a parameter name/value separator. Use {{=}} instead.
Second, you put a vertical bar in a 'title', which in turn conflicts with parameters' separator. Use {{!}} instead.
Finally: complete the reference date with a year and close the {{cite web}} template invocation with double braces: }}.
    Result:

@Aardwolf A380: A few points: If the name of a named ref consists of more than one word, it has to be enclosed in quotation marks. And presumably you wanted the U.S. Holocaust Museum to appear as the publisher of the Web site, not as part of the page's title. (I see no problem with the equals sign in the URL, and you also left the year out of the access-date field.) I think the coding you want is

Adding our group to a Wiki page via edit

    Hi,

I want to add details of our Animal Rights group to this page List of animal rights groups and I understand I would do it via the edit tab.

Is that correct and am I allowed to add it?

Thanks, Wendy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wendywoo70 (talkcontribs) 10:47, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just be aware that Wikipedia is not a means of promotion, and that users are discouraged from editing in areas where they have a conflict of interest. Also, most entries in articles titled "list of" either already have articles elsewhere on the site, or else cite a professionally published source that is independent of the subject. Beyond that was already said by Ian, take a look at our general page about creating Your First Article in there is some excellent information. Don't just skip down to the 'how to do it' part, but rather read and understand the really important information contained in it. We want contributors to Wikipedia, but in order to maintain certain quality and reliability standards there are some policies in place. Tiggerjay (talk) 15:26, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Wataniya Telecom

Hullo, Wataniya Telecom no-longer exists as Wataniya it is now Ooredoo Kuwait. Please can you change the name on the header to be Ooredoo?

    Wataniya Telecom

    Many thanks

PS I am working with Ooredoo in Kuwait as a consultant and just updated the profile from the boiler plate. Please check if you wish to amend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StephenKing2012 (talkcontribs) 10:53, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question header added. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 11:08, 21 September 2015 (UTC) [reply]
Before you do anything else, you are required by our terms of service to disclose your conflict of interest, preferably on your user page. Then please read WP:COI.
I have moved the article to Ooredoo Kuwait, but it needs a lot more work, including a proper lead paragraph.--ukexpat (talk) 13:51, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the moved article was about the parent company Ooredoo, which has its own article. I have deleted those parts, also a promotional sentence about its vision of enriching people's lives. There's not much left. Maproom (talk) 14:28, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. Sounds like a merge is the correct outcome.--ukexpat (talk) 14:30, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There are several Ooredoo pages that could probably be merged into one article. Wataniya Telecom Maldives, Ooredoo Kuwait, Ooredoo (Tunisia), and Nawras are all subsidiaries owned by Ooredoo. Not sure though since competing companies, such as Vodafone seem to have individual pages for many of the countries they operate in. --Stabila711 (talk) 14:37, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A merge sounds like the best route to go with a stub like this. Tiggerjay (talk) 15:23, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can our group be added to a page?

    Hi,

I just asked this question and got a reply to a link and then I replied but was told they hadn`t replied?!

Ok, can I add our group to this page? List of animal rights groups

    Many thanks, Wendy --Wendywoo70 (talk) 15:20, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does your group already have a wikipedia page? If not, then the answer is likely no.Tiggerjay (talk) 15:21, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also see the reply to the same question you asked previously. Tiggerjay (talk) 15:24, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In the absence of any inclusion criteria for that (rather wide-ranging) list, I am going to remove all the redlinks.--ukexpat (talk) 16:01, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Way ahead of you ukexpat. Other lists like that have a "prior page" requirement for inclusion. If it is not notable enough to have its own page it is not notable enough to be included in the list. If an organization wants to be added to that list they should go through the article creation and vetting process first. --Stabila711 (talk) 16:04, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed the same thing, and was going to remove when I ran into an edit conflict... great minds think a like. Tiggerjay (talk) 16:11, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating a page

I am new to Wikipedia. I work for a record label, One Little Indian Records, and have been attempting to set up pages for some of our artists that are entirely credible in terms of receiving both established press and national radio airplay, but due to complex Wikipedia guidelines, these keep being deleted and constant issues keep on occurring. I wondered if there was anyway in which someone could assist me in setting these pages up in the correct and proper fashion, as these artists needs these pages to link to websites such as BBC Music Page and they are in line with your guidelines for notable bands/musicians/artists. Trincres17 (talk) 16:30, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    • @Trincres17: First off, you should not be creating any page directly for anyone you represent. That is a clear conflict of interest. In addition, according to our Terms of Use agreement you must explicitly state that you are being paid to edit Wikipedia. Next, take a look at the notability guidelines for music that Wikipedia has set. If the people you are representing do not fit into those guidelines the article will be deleted. After that, read the general guidelines for all articles. Finally, since you should never create an article that you have a direct involvement with you should go through the articles for creation process. Once submitted another, non-involved, editor will take a look and decide if it is right for Wikipedia. Again, this all requires you to disclose on your user page that you are being paid to edit Wikipedia. --Stabila711 (talk) 16:36, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thanks for the advice. How can I add to my user page that I am working for One Little Indian Records, and as part of my job it involves adding content to Wikipedia? Trincres17 (talk) 16:42, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for being so clear and helpful. I shall try and pursue the create an article route. Trincres17 (talk) 16:49, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
