JSTOR Access
Does anyone have access to JSTOR? I am trying to get this article (https://www.jstor.org/stable/3415336?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents) for a page that I am working on. Thanks. //nepaxt 00:51, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi //nepaxt, please send me a wikimail and I’ll reply with the paper. Hint: for future requests, there’s WP:RX. Cheers ✦ hugarheimur 01:18, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you! //nepaxt 01:24, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Nepaxt, if you need access to JSTOR more often, you might want to apply for a free account via the Wikipedia Library. The JSTOR page shows that no accounts are available now, but you could get on a waiting list. Eddie Blick (talk) 23:54, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
KHAWAJA REAZUDDIN ATASH
Hi, I noticed that the page that I had created and maintained for the last several years has been removed! The name of the page was "Khawaja Reazuddin Atash". Atash was a popular Urdu poet and writer. All the information provided about his life and accomplishments were true and informative. Can you please let me know what was the reason the page was removed and who initiated the process? Why was the page not considered worthy of Wikipedia? You may send your response to <redacted>. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fkhawaja (talk • contribs) 01:01, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Fkhawaja! What happened is an editor didn't think that the article met our notability guidelines, so decided to nominate it for deletion. The type of deletion process that was chosen was Articles for deletion, a process usually lasting 1 or 2 weeks but will rarely go for 4 or more weeks, where multiple users can discuss whether they think the article in question is suitable for Wikipedia, usually based off of the notability guidelines. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Khawaja Reazuddin Atash is the venue where the deletion discussion for this specific article was held. Several users participated, and because the consensus seemed to be to delete the article, an administrator deleted it. I hope this helps clarify things, and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:09, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

amitor
Amitor was created by Tom Hufford and Dianne Kisselberg to develop a word that expresses nonviolence. The word comes from the word Amigo or friend in English and to powerful ending, Amitor is accepted by many people throughout the United States. It has not been accepted by the noraal dictionaries, but we cannot determine why it has not — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.169.34.64 (talk) 03:38, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- See WP:Neologisms. Unless there's professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources discussing the history and use of the word, it's not getting an article. Ian.thomson (talk) 03:52, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Transwiki notification
I received a notification to go to a page titled exactly "Community Tech/Newsletters/Commons notification bot and SVG translate - August 2018" on another wiki. I thought it was from meta wiki I copied the page name and posted directions to it on several important en talk pages. The link I posted goes nowhere, meta wiki does not find the title. It must be somewhere else but my notification has also disappeared so I can't trace it. How do I find the notification and correct this link? Trackinfo (talk) 04:45, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Trackinfo, have you asked about this at Meta Community Tech talk page or at Meta Commons deletion notification bot talk page or at Meta SVG translation page? Warmly, Lourdes 17:25, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes and I received an answer. Trackinfo (talk) 21:04, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Bravissimo company page
Hi, I work for Bravissimo and am trying to update our page but my edits are being reverted. Please can you tell me why? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bravissimo_(company) LoveBravissimo (talk) 12:07, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- LoveBravissimo I don't know why the editor who reverted your edits did so, but I would have done the same. Your edits were not supported by citations, and could not be verified. We need independent, reliable sources for our articles. Please note that as an employee of the company, you must comply with our policy on paid contribution. --Vexations (talk) 12:37, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your info. I did have links for everything I posted. None of them were links to our own company website, therefore were independent. Why could these not be verified? For example, I've tried to update the number of shops and employees that we have to give you more accurate information - how can I get these updated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LoveBravissimo (talk • contribs) 12:44, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- You were reverted due to the fact you work for the company (IE your changes were IMHO on the promotional side), As per WP:COI you should refrain from editing the article and use the talkpage. –Davey2010Talk 12:49, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks so much for clarifying - could you tell me why I can't update the factual information such as the number of employees or shops? I can't see how these can result in a COI. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LoveBravissimo (talk • contribs) 13:05, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

- If I change my username, can I update our page? Even though this seems less transparent and honest IMHO! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LoveBravissimo (talk • contribs) 13:43, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- No, you should not edit the article directly, but you can make suggestions on the talk page. Please do provide references, even for simple factual changes like the number of employees or the number of stores. Does nationality need to be verified?
Hello, Could I ask if the nationality of a biographical subject needs to be verified? I've tried googling this and reading various Wikipedia pages, but I can't find the answer. I had always assumed that it didn't, but the nationality of a subject has been removed as unsubstantiated. Thanks very much for your expertise! Srsval (talk) 12:35, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Everything needs to be verifiable. Things that others have removed as unsubstantiated need to be verified (i.e. you need to provide a citation). – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 12:50, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- No reason why it shouldn't. However, if there's no sources that disagree, you may "get away" with using something selfpublished (like Facebook or Twitter) per WP:SELFSOURCE. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:30, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

the WIKI Page: Sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia
I think someone needs to go and freeze the information on this page and start doing a great deal of fact-checking.
Already, some of the information is not being reported accurately from the Grand Jury report -- OR, people are going in and editing/changing the data, misrepresenting a lot of the numbers and information.

Publishing
Now that I have my article ready, how do I submit it for review so that it can go public? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brownca1 (talk • contribs) 16:19, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Brownca1: You're really going to want to start over before asking anyone to review it. As it is, it's a PR piece, which we don't allow. Here's what you should do:
- 1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources.
- 2) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find.
- 3) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.
- 4) Summarize those sources from step 2, adding citations at the end of them. You'll want to do this in a program with little/no formatting, like Microsoft Notepad or Notepad++, and not in something like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.
- 5) Combine overlapping summaries (without arriving at new statements that no individual source supports) where possible, repeating citations as needed.
- 6) Paraphrase the whole thing just to be extra sure you've avoided any copyright violations or plagiarism.
- 7) Use the Article wizard to post this draft and wait for approval.
- 8) Expand the article using sources you put aside in step 2 (but make sure they don't make up more than half the sources for the article, and make sure that affiliated sources don't make up more than half of that).
- Doing something besides those steps typically results in the article not being approved, or even in its deletion. Ian.thomson (talk) 16:24, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Uploading a Page on Wikipedia
Dear Sir or Madam;
I have created a page on wikipedia, have edited a couple of times and uploaded but it still does not come up in a general search.
This is the link info: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Abdelbens&oldid=855366539
Can you please guide me on how to continue the process.
thanks

- User pages, such as yours, User:Abdelbens are intended to facilitate communication between editors. They are not part of the encyclopedia and are not indexed by search engines. If you want to publish the article, you have to move it to Hind Arroub You may want to consider working on it a bit more, move it User:Abdelbens/sandbox or Draft:Hind Arroub instead and then submit it to the Articles for Creation, by adding the code
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the draft or sandbox page. You may want to read Wikipedia:Your first article. Vexations (talk) 20:07, 17 August 2018 (UTC)- I moved it to Draft:Hind Arroub; but it's going to need a lot before it becomes even remotely acceptable. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:10, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Scam external link
Users 35.233.176.122 and 35.230.118.148 have been adding a fake external link into articles about various NFL-related shows and services. The link is to a scam website pretending to be an NFL website and offering paid subscriptions using credit cards. I found and removed the links that were inserted by those two IP 35 accounts but have no idea how to find any others. I'm sure there are a lot more that were sneaked into articles. So if anyone can find and eliminate them, that would be good. Thanks. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:3059:8016:5847:3E43 (talk) 07:06, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting. I "insource"-searched for nfllivestream.com and nflliveonline.com, and have removed four links. Are there other domains we should look out for? @all: should these domains be added to a blacklist? Sam Sailor 08:28, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, Sam. I don't know if there are other domains, but I'd be very surprised if there aren't more. The one thing that stands out with the ones we've found so far is that all the articles they were sneaked into have "NFL" in the title. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:3059:8016:5847:3E43 (talk) 09:59, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

- If you notice patterns of repeated spamming in the future and warnings have been ignored, you can also report these incidents at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam or directly at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist for blacklisting requests. I have reported both sites there - thank you for noticing these issues. GermanJoe (talk) 12:35, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Thanks all for the help, info and advice. I appreciate it. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:3059:8016:5847:3E43 (talk) 16:17, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- @GermanJoe: Thanks for passing that on, Joe!
@CASSIOPEIA: FYI, Twinkle requires autoconfirmed, and warning users on dynamic IP connections as here 3-7 days after their edits are unlikely to be seen by that same user. STiki for example does not issue notifications or warnings if an edit is more than 24 hours old. Sam Sailor 10:00, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Kinderdijk
Hi,
On the Kinderdijk page, there is written in the infobox "Location of Kinderdijk in Netherlands." Can someone change that to "Location of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands" (remove the dot and add "the") since it includes code I do not know how to deal with? Thanks!
WhatsUpWorld (talk) 10:31, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- I've got rid of the full stop at the end of the caption (per WP:CAPFRAG) by this edit to the template, but the addition of "the" in this case isn't so simple. I don't know whether a redirect from Module:Location map/data/the Netherlands to Module:Location map/data/Netherlands would work. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:44, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Done - First request done. Taketa (talk) 07:05, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- It's the same on Canals of Amsterdam with "Show map of Netherlands". Can someone also add "the" there? WhatsUpWorld (talk) 11:37, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- At present the modules do not allow for "the Netherlands". Duplicating the content of Module:Location map/data/Netherlands at Module:Location map/data/the Netherlands would seem like a sledge-hammer approach, but perhaps someone can find a better solution. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:55, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Problem with content of history of "Bhumihar" topic of Wikipedia
In the history of "bhumihar " topic of Wikipedia there is written that bhumihar caste is offspring of bramhinmen and rajput women or offspring of rajput men and bramhin women . Or bhumihar is hybrid of bramhin and rajput(khetriya) which is wrong. But actually the ancestors of bhumihar caste is bramhin.
so that statement is actually insult of bhumihar caste people.and we strongly condemned this. Therefore I request your team to remove this controversial statement as soon as. (Redacted) i think you must remove this. I am waiting for this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.39.226.48 (talk) 19:05, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- The article Bhumihar gives various accounts of the origin of the Bhumihars. It does not state "that bhumihar caste is offspring of bramhin men and rajput women", it describes that as a legend. It says "The Bhumihars themselves dislike these narratives ..., and claim to be pure Brahmins."
- Your threat of legal action may cause your right to edit Wikipedia to be removed, unless you retract it. Maproom (talk) 19:30, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) The wording reads, "some non-Bhumihars have implied that they are the mixed-race offspring of Brahmin men and Kshatriya women". It is not a statement but a report of an opinion which is reliably sourced. It is therefore not very likely that it will be removed. Do not make legal threats (see that page) or you may lose editing privileges. You should immediately withdraw that threat. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (

Problem with Peruvian location maps and Zip files
Basically, on Ubinas File:Peru physical map.svg apparently automatically displays and that is a problem in Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Ubinas/archive1 because that file has no information on where the topographical info comes from. I suspect it comes from here or one of the files listed on File:Reserva Nacional de Paracas topographic map-es.png but I can't tell as they are ZIP files and I have no way to open them. Alternatively I could remove the map but the template shows no clear way to do so. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:57, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Galobtter (pingó mió) 20:11, 18 August 2018 (UTC) - The map does seem quite useful so it'd be sad if you have to remove it; from googling the issue would be that these are .hgt files that can only be opened with particular software. Galobtter (pingó mió) 20:28, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Another map problem
Hi guys,
Yesterday you already helped me with a map problem I had on the Kinderdijk. I'm working on some more Netherlands pages and have three problems:
- The first one concerns Zaanse Schans. The Netherlands location map (in the infobox) does not show where the place is in the country although coordinates are filled in.
- The second one concerns Amsterdam. I would like to change "Location of Amsterdam in Netherlands" into "Location of Amsterdam in the Netherlands" and "Show map of Netherlands" into "Show map of the Netherlands".
- The third and last one concerns Grachtengordel. In the infobox there is a link "[UNESCO World Heritage Site]" and I would like it to change into "[UNESCO] [World Heritage site]".
Thanks so much for your help! WhatsUpWorld (talk) 13:39, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- I fixed the first problem.
{{Infobox settlement}}
doesn't support a "locmapin" field; you have to use "pushpin_map". Deor (talk) 13:57, 19 August 2018 (UTC)- I don't think the third one can be done as things stand. The link is coded that way in
{{Infobox UNESCO World Heritage Site}}
. I don't really see the problem, as it only takes an extra click to get from the World Heritage site article to the UNESCO article. Deor (talk) 14:10, 19 August 2018 (UTC)- Can't you change the code to avoid the redirection and have two different links? Thanks for solving the first one! Maybe I'll consider using the infobox template of Kinderdijk on the Grachtengordel page. WhatsUpWorld (talk) 14:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello! I would like to know why you have nothing about LT Bobby Ross? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.174.50.227 (talk) 15:40, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello IP, and welcome to Wikipedia. This person [2]? I did a quick google/news search [3] and couldn't find any sources that would be considered reliable/enough to base a WP-article on. However, if you have such sources, you are welcome to try to write an article. It's not super-easy, but if there's good sources, it can be done. Start by taking the time to read Wikipedia:Your first article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:06, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Please note carefully: The only fundamental requirement for an article is that the subject must be notable, as Wikipedia defines it, not as you define it: see WP:NOTABLE. While we strongly prefer that your article is well-written, even a poorly-written article on a notable subject will be retained, and even the most perfectly-written article on a non-notable subject will be deleted. Unless you can establish notability, please do not even try to create an article, as it will end in frustration. -Arch dude (talk) 17:00, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
AC/DC CORRECTIONS
In regards to the musical artist AC/DC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC) SOMEONE keeps replacing legitimate information with fake news (e.g. Axl Rose). AXL ROSE (the "vocalist" of Guns n Roses) NEVER was a member of the band AC/DC. He was a guest on a handful of shows to finish out the bands last tour, Rock or Bust and nothing more. As of August, 2018, it has been confirmed that Brian Johnson (still, the official AC/DC singer since 1980) is back in the studio with the band, as is original drummer Phil Rudd. Also, please reference the OFFICIAL AC/DC WEBSITE WWW.ACDC.COM (c) Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. regarding who are the actual members of AC/DC. https://www.acdc.com/the-band ((ie. the site will be updated shortly to re-introduce Phil Rudd back into the lineup). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.106.226.207 (talk) 19:13, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- The information you mention is cited in the article. If you have some issue with it, you should discuss the matter with the other editors on the article's talk page, Talk:AC/DC. 331dot (talk) 19:16, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Adding hidden text to a citation
Hi. It's been a very long time since I've written, and I'm rusty.
I know that it's possible to put text into an article that can only be seen when you're in edit source, but I forgot how to do that. Can someone please remind me? I had to jump through some hoops to get the date for a citation, and want to note where it can be found in hidden text.
Many thanks, The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 19:36, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- You can use <!-- Comment --> to hide your comment like this: (hidden). See WP:Hidden text for more detail. Dbfirs 19:46, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Giving accounts to other people
Let’s say I got bored of Wikipedia (which could be possible in the future because of school). If so, am I allowed to give my account to someone else, like friends or family? Or does that violate WP:NOSHARING? Torrent01 (is cool) (talk) 19:46, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Torrent01: Yes, it would violate WP:NOSHARE. As is stated there, "Sharing an account – or the password to an account – with others is not permitted". If you think you might leave Wikipedia, you should just stop using your account. 331dot (talk) 19:50, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict):No, you should not give your account or your password to other people because each account must be an individual. If you get bored, just stop using your account, and you can come back to it at some future date if you wish. You might like to mention on your user page that you are no longer an active editor, then you can remove the message if you come back. Dbfirs 19:53, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict × 2) There's also WP:COMPROMISED to consider. If you are planning on never returning and want to pass the username on to someone else, what would be safer is to let whoever you want to "give" the name to register a similarly named account (like Torrent02 or Torrent001), post on your talk page and theirs that they have permission to usurp your username, then retire your current account. Otherwise, they just need to make their own account and you keep yours to yourself. Ian.thomson (talk) 19:53, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

How to create preview text for Wikipedia searches
I've been seeing a form of preview text in Wikipedia search results, as below:
What I mean is the line that says "public research university". I've been unable to find instructions on how to create this kind of preview text for pages I'm editing. I'll appreciate any instructions you can provide, or show me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterNordgren (talk • contribs) 21:00, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, PeterNordgren. I think that short description - like the one that appears in the mobile App - comes from Wikidata; in this case d:Q838330. You can get to it by picking "Wikidata item" from the sidebar of University of Wisconsin-Madison. --ColinFine (talk) 22:57, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you ColinFine. I see that's the case. I'll work there. --PeterNordgren (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:01, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Rather than using a short description from Wikidata, which is outside the control of the English Wikipedia, you can use Template:Short description which overrides anything from Wikidata. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:18, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Although you are free to work at Wikidata as well, PeterNordgren, it is preferable to also add a local short description here on Wikipedia, since it is much more visible here and allows us to better control and monitor changes to it. You can read more about the initiative to add a local short description to every mainspace article at Wikipedia:Short description and its associated WikiProject. —Nøkkenbuer (talk • contribs) 05:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC); edited at 05:29, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

HARD COPY REFERENCES
How can I use a hard copy of a reference source (unavailable online)? Do I scan it? If so, how do I then convert it to a link? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Django1887 (talk • contribs) 22:23, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Django1887: No, that would be book piracy, which we do not allow.
- Just cite a professionally-published source the same way you would an online source.
- The source needs to be something that someone else could access without driving to your house or some county office or whatever, like maybe they could order it off of Amazon or something. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

How to correctly do a template
August 20
I was the inventor, Burton Rubin. The article attributes the invention to Robert Stiller. I ha d the idea years before he invested in the Company. I traveled Europe & The U.S. to build the company. He handled the inside administrative work and loaned the company the funds to buy inventory. Please see Larry Sloman's book, Reefer Madness". He mainly interviewed me. Burt Rubin (talk) 14:22, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, Burt. Please bring this up on the article's talk page. You clearly have one very good source (WP:RS). Since you have an unavoidable conflict of interest (See WP:COI) Please do not edit the article directly, but instead make suggestions for editing in a new section on the talk page, and add then add {{edit request}} (with the curly braces) to the section to attract the attention of a editor. I feel that the book is a sufficient reference by itself, but if you can also find additional references (e.g., in contemporaneous newspaper articles) those would be great, also. -Arch dude (talk) 18:04, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Categories
How can an editor find out what articles belong in a category? The obvious way is by reading the category's documentation, which I would expect to find on its talk page; but whenever I've looked there the talk page has provided no guidance.
This question is provoked by the recent addition of Battle of Blenheim to Category:Battles in Bavaria. The site of the battle is now in Bavaria; but at the time of the battle was in the Duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg. That's just an example where a "definition" of the category would be useful. There are many others. Maproom (talk) 18:39, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- The category page is itself editable, so I believe the category definition belongs there, not on the category's talk page. I have no idea what policies and guidelines, if any, apply to the implicit definition of any category, or to categories relating to geopolitical regions, so here is my opinion: If a category name is subject to interpretation, then the actual definition should be placed on the category page. That definition can then be changed or modified just like an article or a guideline, based on consensus arrived at via discussion on the category's talk page. Note that a category can be split into multiple subcategories if the two competing definitions are incompatible. (Here's a question for you: Where should I express this opinion in order to have it become part of a guideline?) -Arch dude (talk) 18:59, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Guideline info is here WP:MOSCAT. Please pay particular attention to WP:CATDEF and WP:CATVER. Categories are not placed in an article based on an editors interpretation of things, rather they are based on sourced info and the fact that they are a defining characteristic of the subject of the article. MarnetteD|Talk 19:06, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- The OP was not asking about which categories to associate with an article, but rather how to determine the definition of a category. An editor cannot adhere to those two guidelines unless the editor can determine a category's definition. -Arch dude (talk) 20:03, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- And of course placement of the category documentation is covered at Wikipedia:Categorization#Creating_category_pages, which agrees with the opinion I stated earlier. I should have looked for this before answering, but better late than never I suppose. -Arch dude (talk) 19:59, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you all for the advice, which I have read, along with WP:MOSCAT. I am none the wiser.
- essential–—defining–—characteristics of a topic. Is it an essential, or defining, property of the Battle of Blenheim that it was fought in territory that would later become part of Bavaria? I have no idea. That's a philosophical question, which I am not equipped to answer.
- It should be clear from verifiable information in the article why it was placed in each of its categories. Verifiability is not in question: interpretation of the category name is.
- If a category name is subject to interpretation, then the actual definition should be placed on the category page. But it never is.
- No-one here has expressed a view on whether Battle of Blenheim belongs in Category:Battles in Bavaria, and I am no closer to an answer.
- Here's another "interpretation" problem. Solomon Mestel was of Polish Jewish ethnicity, and was born in Galicia when it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He migrated to Autralia in 1923, by when Galicia had become part of Poland, and later to England. Later still, that part of Galicia became part of Ukraine. The article on Mestel was in Category:Australian people of Ukrainian-Jewish descent; I removed it on the grounds that he was not of any kind of Ukrainian descent. I see that it is still in Category:Ukrainian emigrants to the United Kingdom and Category:Ukrainian Orthodox rabbis; I believe that it should not be. The category pages themselves provide no guidance. Maproom (talk) 20:42, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Guideline info is here WP:MOSCAT. Please pay particular attention to WP:CATDEF and WP:CATVER. Infobox issues
Hi, I've been having some difficulty editing the Richmond upon Thames London Borough Council elections page, in particular to upload a new infobox. I place it in the correction section- Political Control- however it keeps jumping down to the by-elections section. This is the infobox in question:
<redacted because being malformatted it has been placed in the wrong place on this page>
Is there anyway to fix this so the box is in the right place? BitterGiant (talk) 19:39, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Ensuring up to date research/references for an article for a company
Hi there, I know there's a very clear conflict of interest with representatives of an organization/company making edits or suggesting changes to that company's article wiki page. My hope is to better understand how to best engage with page editors to provide more up to date references and research that readers of the page would be interested to see as they represent a more complete picture of the organization at present time.

- While direct edits are strongly discouraged, there is absolutely no prohibition against a paid editor making edit suggestions. I would say that such recommendations are actually encouraged. A paid editor such as yourself must declare your status: see WP:PAID. any editor with a conflict of interest should make edit suggestions on the article's talk page: see WP:COI, so please put this suggestion there. You "engage the editors" be adding {{edit request}} (with the curly braces) to the section in the talk page where you make your suggestion. -Arch dude (talk) 20:42, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello @Mjtrainor:, in addition to the great advice above, I have also added a few more links regarding COI and Wikipedia-editing in general on your user talkpage (and tweaked your original message a bit for better formatting). But please feel free to ask additional questions here anytime. GermanJoe (talk) 13:03, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
Someone keeps reposting inaccurate information about me
I was trying to edit the information on my own wikipedia entry, but it is inaccurate, and someone keeps changing it back. I suspect it is the same people who attacked me and posted inaccurate information about me all over the internet last summer. What can I do? Can I get Wikipedia to just entirely delete my page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kadettwyler (talk • contribs) 22:06, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Your page won't be deleted solely because you might want it to be- but it does need to be accurate per our policy on biographies of living people. I'm not sure which information it is that is inaccurate, but most of what you removed seems to be cited to reliable sources like the Washington Post and some other (what seem to be) reputable news organizations. If they are incorrect, you should start a discussion on the article talk page (Talk:Katherine Ann Dettwyler) explaining your concerns along with any supporting sources you have. 331dot (talk) 22:20, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Kadettwyler: That page is not "your" entry. It is Wikipedia's article about you. You should not edit that article directly. See WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. If you have suggestions for improvements to the article, make the suggestions on the article's talk page instead. Do not remove properly-sourced information from any article on Wikipedia, including that one: that is considered vandalism and will get you blocked. After all that, if inaccurate information has been published in a reliable source and then included in the article, Your best move is to find another reliable source that has the accurate information, and ask that it be included in the article. -Arch dude (talk) 02:41, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

- First, turn off your capslock. Typing in all caps is like screaming on the internet.
- Second, if you set up an email address with your account, just click "Forgot your password?" on the login page. If you did not set up an email address with your account, then there is no way to recover your log in information. Ian.thomson (talk) 23:16, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- If by "I . . . want to . . .update my wikki" you mean you want to edit the article Luisa Fernanda and this article is about you, you should not be doing so yourself: please see Wikipedia:Autobiography.
- If you have additional information from published Reliable sources, and/or pictures whose copyright you legally own, and think they would improve the article, you can suggest edits and additions on the article's Talk page, but you should leave disinterested editors with no Conflict of interest to decide whether or not to carry them out. This page explains the procedure in more detail.
- Please remember (if you are in fact this person), it isn't your article, it is Wikipedia's article about you.

How to Correct Article Subtitle (as it appears on mobile, Wikipedia Beta app)
I was reading the page for Ron Arnold on a mobile device and noticed that the subtitle was incorrect.

Ron Arnold an Anti-Environmentalist, or more accurately, a proponent of the Wise use movement

- Hi Neuralnewt, I suppose sometimes the subtitle also says "American writer". But what you and I are seeing is not Wikipedia, but probably the Google infobox that pops up; Wikipedia doesn't directly control what appears in that infobox, although the contents of Ron Howard's Wikipedia page may be used by Google to generate its infobox contents. Notability questions
I want to write an article about a book (not mine), but not sure whether the book is notable or not. I would hate to write an article only to have it deleted. Is transclusion as wrapped in <code><nowiki></nowiki></code> possible?
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Suppose, there are pages Template:Foobar, Template:Foobar/doc (with documentation), and Template:Foobar/example, which is a demonstration of the template's usage. Is it possible to transclude the code of /example as if it was wrapped in <code><nowiki></nowiki></code>
into the /doc page?
So, if page Template:Foobar consists of is Hello, World!
, /doc page is Use Foobar to say hello to the world.
, and page Template:Foobar/example is "some text before" {{Template:Foobar|param1|param2|...}} "some text after"
, I want to be able to add a section "Example" to /doc page, which would transclude the code of /example, and the wikimarkup result in the /doc page is <code><nowiki><!-- whole code of /example appears here --></nowiki></code>
. Question was originally posted here: Wikipedia talk:Transclusion. Thanks. —andrybak (talk) 10:46, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

How long does it take for a new page to be approved once it is submitted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ipni2018 (talk • contribs) 20:22, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- According to WP:AFC there are over 3100 submissions awaiting review; as reviews are conducted by volunteers, it could take many weeks. 331dot (talk) 20:32, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

This page has been tampered with - not by myself! Please fix if able - Thanks 180.150.21.186 (talk) 23:41, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I fixed it. A good faith editor simply deleted a curled bracket breaking the infobox (which I erroneously called a ref box in my edit summary by accident, sorry). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:55, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Redirect Issue
I am a wikipedian who edits in malayalam wikipedia. There were 2 existing templates namely ഫലകം:Requested move and ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക. I recently deleted all the contents of the template ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക and I redirected that template to ഫലകം:Requested move. But currently, in the pages that were linked to ഫലകം:പേരുമാറ്റുക is showing the message REDIRECT ഫലകം:Requested move and not the contents of the template ഫലകം:Requested move. I tried to clear the cache of both the templates but in vain. Please note that the word ഫലകം means template in english. Adithyak1997 (talk) 07:24, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

I need to change the page name
Hello! There's a mistake in the name at title of my faculty (must be "Faculty of Engineering Management", but instead we have "Faculty of Management Engineering"). Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faculty_of_Management_Engineering,_Bialystok_University_of_Technology On the following link you can check that it is the official name in English: https://wiz.pb.edu.pl/en/faculty/ . I've tried to change it myself, but unfortunatelly I've failed. Maybe you can help me?
Thank you in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessica Eugenia (talk • contribs) 08:15, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
To block my username
Hi, please do you can tell what I have to do for the block of my username? Thank you --Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 08:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- What do you mean, Frullatore Tostapane? That user account has never been blocked, and neither can I see anyone suggesting it would be in your contributions. Do you have another account, and if so, under which username? TigraanClick here to contact me 08:29, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I want to know the proceeding for the request for to block my username in Wikipedia in english, I have another username and I want to close it, thanks--Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 09:42, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- You don't need to have the name blocked, you can simply stop using it. 331dot (talk) 09:46, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- ... But I do not want any more to declare it... (sorry for my english that is very bad!) ;-D --Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 09:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

- I think you may be talking about something like this (WP:RTV) - X201 (talk) 10:00, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- PS and I do not will use it anymore, it is Aviator7712, I have declared it in my user page here [10]--Frullatore Tostapane (talk) 10:02, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Courtesy vanishing is only done if the user is not returning. If you intend to use another account, you can't be given a courtesy vanish. 331dot (talk) 10:04, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- I gather that you just want to use a different username; you should have just requested a username change per the instructions at WP:CHU. Then there is no second account to declare. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

- Even if it was blocked, that would not remove your need to declare it. I really think your best bet is to just stop using it. 331dot (talk) 10:23, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

how to get your wikipedia page accepted
how to get your wiki page live and accepted and how much time it takes to get your page live — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patni.Aditya (talk • contribs) 08:39, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Patni.Aditya: on the assumption this relates to Draft:Kyvos Insights the review notice contains the information that it could be up to 8 weeks before it is considered for acceptance. In the meantime some useful links have been left at your talk page and you should study those carefully and improve the article accordingly. References should be placed inline at the point in the text they refer to. The article could be seen as promotional (which will mean it is very likely to be rejected) and some minor adjustment may be necessary. If you have a connection to the company you must read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make any necessary disclosures. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (

- @CiaPan: Yes, I noticed it was blocked shortly after I posted here, and at the TP. I felt it was a bit on the rapid side and agree there was no opportunity for the OP to address the issues. Eagleash (talk) 15:52, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Reminders to self?
From time to time I propose things on talk pages (or similarly via, say, Mergeto/Mergefrom templates on articles) with the intention of going ahead at a suitable future time, typically a few days or a couple of weeks. (Unless, of course, there is debate whose consensus is against.) Very often, there is no feedback whatsoever; this I would intend to interpret as tacit approval to proceed. But... then it slips my all-too-human mind and I forget to follow up.
Is there some sort of reminder-to-self function that can be set to notify me that the intended period has elapsed? It might be something like "{{remind-me|period=7days}}". Feline Hymnic (talk) 12:36, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- You can write a note to yourself on your user page – or on a subpage of your user page such as User:Feline Hymnic/reminders. Maproom (talk) 14:57, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was wondering if there was a more formal, common mechanism, generically useable, that could issue notifications, like when a "thank" is issued from a revision-history page, or when a {{reply|UserFoo}} is done. The delivery mechanism would be something like the notification. Its trigger (driven from MediaWiki software perhaps?) would be after a specified time-delay.
- My day-job involves software development (including a few major open-source projects) and taking ideas, perhaps from users, and if deemed useful then generalising them and implementing them. This "remind me in a few days" idea just seems potentially quite useful to many users.
- If it (or something similar) is not already available, where might I propose it, please?
Feline Hymnic (talk) 15:46, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- A good place to ultimately propose it is Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals), although I'm a big fan of starting at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(idea_lab) to work out potential kinks before formally proposing something.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
