    Change a thumbnail photograph

I desire to change my thumb nail photo to an updated image. Can you please assist? G.d.bricknell (talk) 04:50, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

G.d.bricknell, you've just done that, in this edit. (You simultaneously removed the bio-infobox, but I'd say that this was completely superfluous.) Materialscientist then reverted your edit; you can discuss the pros and cons at Talk:Sam Prince (restaurateur). -- Hoary (talk) 06:21, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@G.d.bricknell: You used VisualEditor where a new user may easily delete a whole infobox by accident instead of an infobox image. Click the infobox and then "Edit" below to change the image field without deleting the infobox. Opinions are divided but most users do like infoboxes and don't want them deleted even if everything is repeated in the article text. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:30, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Problem

I ask here because the topic is relevant anyway and because I would like to receive more feedback. On the List of Italian dishes page, there are many unknown foods in English in the main sections, while there are other unknown foods in the regional variants. To avoid confusion, it would be better to do one of the following: include all foods from the regional variants in the main sections as well, or include all unknown foods in English from the main sections within the regional variants. @JackkBrown: The place to have the conversation is the article's talk page (as you've been doing in this case). To receive more feedback, invite the editors who have made significant additions/changes to the article to join the conversation. You may also post a request on the associated WikiProject's talk page to invite them to the conversation. GoingBatty (talk) 14:44, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Watch articles under Wikiproject

Is there a way to watch the recent changes made on articles under the scope of a certain wikiproject?

For example, for all the articles under Wikipedia:WikiProject Mammals:

    - I know you can watch changes made to pages in Category:WikiProject Mammals articles, but that's just the talk pages, not the articles themselves.

-There was a tool that apparently did that, but seems like it got shut down in 2014.

    Thanks in advance, Gor1995 𝄞 11:54, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @Gor1995 Hmmm I'd check out {{Hot articles}}. Another tool I used seems to be broken, https://bambots.toolforge.org/WikiProjectRecentChanges.php, perhaps this can be asked again in WP:VPT ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 20:11, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I did not know the bambots tool. I could not figure out how to make it work... perhaps Bamyers99 can help clarifying if it's permanently broken or not. -- Gor1995 𝄞 22:07, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gor1995 and Shushugah: WikiProjectRecentChanges has been retired. It did not survive the move to my personal server. I just looked at resurrecting it, but could not figure out how to query the needed information from the Wikimedia server. --Bamyers99 (talk) 23:42, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's bad news... do you know any other way of achieving a similar thing? I just saw that WP Medicine created this page (looks like via PetScan) to list all 53000 pages under the scope of the project and then they use the related changes to watch the articles. That's an option but it's a huge page and also has to be updated manually. Thanks -- Gor1995 𝄞 15:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gor1995: You can also check out the Cleanup listing for WikiProject Mammals, which has enough to keep you busy for a while. GoingBatty (talk) 22:16, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks! Didn't know this tool -- Gor1995 𝄞 15:49, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am new to Wiki. I want to set up a page for a Museum Project

I am new to Wiki. I want to set up a page for a Museum Project

    Where do I start? Jethrob101 (talk) 18:46, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jethrob101. Writing a Wikipedia article from scratch is a very difficult undertaking. Your best bet is to closely look at our notability guidelines to see if the Museum Project passes our criteria for inclusion. If it does, then I'd recommend you start a draft article via our Articles for Creation process which will allow an experienced editor to review your draft on submission and give feedback.
Please note if you are being paid by the Project you must make a declaration by following the instructions at WP:PAID. If you are connected to the project you must also make this clear by following the instructions at WP:COI. Qcne (talk) 18:59, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Jethrob101. Your choice of words "set up a page for" suggests that, like many people, you misunderstand what Wikipedia is and how it works.
If your project has already been written about by several independent, reliable sources, then Wikipedia could have an article about it, based almost entirely on what those independent sources say, not on what the project itself says or wants to say. You and your colleagues are discouraged from writing this article, but not forbidden.
If an article is accepted into the encyclopaedia, whoever writes it, it will not be owned or controlled by your or your project, and it will not necessarily say what you would like it to say. Your role will be limited to suggesting edits, which should be backed up by independent published sources. promotion of any sort (a.k.a. "telling the world about") is forbidden.
In addition, as Qcne says, writing a new article is a challenging task, even for an editor who does not have a conflict of interest, and I would advise anybody against trying it before they have spent a few months editing existing articles and learning how Wikipedia works. Adding a book to a list of books in a Wikipedia article

I've added a book ("The Negev and the Bedouins: nomads, living areas and the land problem, 1800-1967") to article Ruth Kark.

Have I formatted the information correctly? Is there a tool for doing this?

This is the Hebrew version of the book as the English version is not out yet. I used Google Translate to derive the English title from the Hebrew title. Is that the correct thing to do?

I tried searching for the book using Special:BookSources but neither form of ISBN was recognised (978-1885881786 and 1885881789). Does that happen often?

Many thanks Misha Wolf (talk) 20:03, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can see, you have added it correctly. However, I question why it needed to be added: in my opinion, the list of works is already too long.
What that article needs is not more content, but better sources. I suspect that Kark does meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, but the sources do not demonstrate this. Apart from nos 3 and 4, which I haven't looked at, most of the rest do not contain siginificant coverage of Kark, and the biography is obviously not independent.
What that article needs more than anything else is some independent sources which discuss her indepth, meeting the criteria in the golden rule. ColinFine (talk) 21:42, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have revised the existing references in Ruth Kark's article, deleting those that were less informative (too personal), and adding several academic and journalistic sources related to Kark's work and achievements.
Also added a link to Kark's publications on Google Scholar to help people find her papers and books online.
I believe this resolves the issue identified earlier and so, I have removed the warning tag from the article. MountainStream888 (talk) 11:30, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's a small problem, but I don't know why there's white space in the "External links" paragraph that shouldn't be there. JackkBrown (talk) 20:52, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can this drawing of Madame Roland - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame_Roland#/media/File:Dame_Roland_b,_cropped.jpg. -

seen here in the info box on Madame Roland's page, replace the slightly different and crooked (not straight and with too many words) image of Madame Roland seen on Susannah Taylor's page please? It is FAR superior, but please make the image smaller than the drawing of the page's subject - Sussanah Taylor. Thanks 175.38.42.62 (talk) 01:51, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They are two different people. Taylor just had an unusual nickname. I see no need for a picture of Roland to be included in Taylor's biography. I will remove it. Cullen328 (talk) 01:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Citation

What exactly is a citation and how does it work, and does it require a precise article on the subject or topic or can it be a blog which has a proper information, and what is a reliable source. Jfebin1998 (talk) 05:53, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jfebin1998, today's featured article is Handel's lost Hamburg operas. It has citations. If you click on them you can see how they work. A reference need not be an article that's primarily about the subject -- it may instead be primarily about a different subject but say something of interest about "your" subject and be referred to for this information. Other than for very limited purposes, it may not be a blog. For the meaning of "reliable source", please read and digest WP:RS. -- Hoary (talk) 06:36, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a place for Israel-Palestine conflict help?

I've recently seen a new article and some edits on Israel-Palestine related issues that I'd view as extremely contentious. I really don't want to start editing heavily in that space - if I start reverting or requesting deletion, I know I'll be down a rabbit hole for days (I don't think I'm allowed to either, I don't know what the conditions are). Is there a neutral noticeboard or project where I can flag something I saw, where it will get attention from people with varied viewpoints? Samuelshraga (talk) 10:23, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning conditions—while users are encouraged to be vigilant concerning potential conflicts of interest they may have, there are no relevant restrictions on what a user may or may not edit or what biases a user may or may not have, as long as they are not reflected in their editing and they remain civil towards others. The relevant subject is presently designated a contentious topic, so ensure you know what that entails.
Other than that...you're being a tad imprecise here. If you want a place to discuss specific concerns, the best place is usually the article talk page. There is also the neutral point of view noticeboard, though posting on it should usually be accompanied by a talk page discussion. If there is a pattern of obviously uncivil or otherwise abusive behavior from specific users, WP:AN/I is the place to report that.
    Cheers! — Remsense 11:47, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Samuelshraga welcome to Teahouse! Editing in Israel/Palestine is not only emotionally challenging but there are many more rules and guidelines. One of them is that only editors with WP:ECP status (500 edits/30 days of activity) can edit. I would recommend you spend your time productively learning about other areas of Wikipedia first. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:50, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Shushugah, I assume that the rule about ECP status means that editors without ECP status should not post about Israel/Palestine on noticeboards like ANI or NPOV, am I correct? I have read Template:Welcome-arbpia and am still uncertain. TSventon (talk) 15:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This editing restriction primarily applies to Article mainspace, and the guidelines explicitly allow newer editors to make edit requests on the talk page. I would derive from that, ANI/other non Main namespaces would be permitted, but generally discouraged. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:26, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just put out a big update on the California's 35th State Assembly district as it needed to be updated as their was a redistricting and an election, I figured everything else out but I cant update the infobox. Cancelling Amir Tsarfati

I just read about Wikipedia is cancelling Amir Tsarfati. I can’t believe that this is serious? I just typed in adolph hitler, and I found out everything about him, even his book mein kampf!!?? I can’t believe that a serious and respectable site as Wikipedia really are letting this happen, why cancel Amir Tsarfati? I can find and read info and find info on the worst people and their biography and books on your site? Then I will ask you, how in the world can you then cancel mr. Amir Tsarfati? I hope and believe you can see that what you are doing here raises questions about your decision in this case. I really hope you cancel your cancellation of mr. Amir Tsarfati before this goes to far. Br. Frode 84.234.210.246 (talk) 15:49, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Amir Tsarfati was deleted per the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amir Tsarfati. A draft at Draft:Amir Tsarfati was rejected at Articles for Creation.
Inclusion in Wikipedia is decided on "notability" which has a special definition here. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 16:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dozens of draft articles get rejected. This has nothing to do with any judgment on the subject - it is because there are not enough independent reliable sources that talk about the subject, to base an article on. That is what we mean in Wikipedia by "notable". ColinFine (talk) 17:46, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    References

Unfortunately I think I made a mistake when editing, as this is the first and last time I am editing references. Is it possible to restore the "References" paragraphs of the Greco (grape), Mastroberardino and Asprinio bianco pages to the version prior to my edits (I refer to my edits in the "References" paragraphs), without deleting all my edits? JackkBrown (talk) 16:24, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly is the problem with the references? I've looked at the first article, and I can't see any obvious problem. ColinFine (talk) 16:35, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at the revision history of Greco (grape), and it looks like: 1. the only change to the "References" subheading was passing {{Reflist}} a |1=2; 2. none of the other edits mention references or citations in the edit summaries; 3. nothing has been altered in the (unformatted) references throughout the article except for markup syntax and punctuation. How do you expect others to figure out which of your edits have altered references in ways you're apparently dissatisfied with? What was the mistake? Folly Mox (talk) 16:39, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Folly Mox: yes, that's right, the punctuation; seeing many other pages that always have the same punctuation (different from the one I inserted), however much neater the punctuation I inserted was, perhaps it's better to restore the old version of the references, the one before my edits (without deleting all my edits). JackkBrown (talk) 17:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see what you mean. Manually formatted citations don't have to follow the same punctuation style as the main CS1 templates, per WP:CITEVAR. Since the references still have consistent formatting within their own articles after your edits, it's not necessary to change them again, and if they were to be changed, it would probably be to add citation templates rather than fiddle with the manual formatting. 1) Is there a way to get the Tool to make a new Infobox based on the original version,

Help on Archiving Web Pages with See More Button

    Hi,

I'm currently looking for ways how to archive some web pages with a "read more/see more" button. For example, I tried to archive the whole article, but the website has "Baca Artikel Penuh" (Read full article) button that hides the remaining part of the article until you click on it.

I tried Archive.is, GhostArchive, and WebArchive. While all three do archived the same page, but the remaining half of the article behind the "Baca Artikel Penuh" isn't visible. Any suggestions on how I can archive the text article in its entirety? Thank you. SyFuelIgniteBurned 03:21, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I recently replaced one version of an image with a newer version with better resolution. I edited the relevant page (entry for "Frank Stirrup, rugby league player") to insert the new version. However, the page still shows the old version. If you click on the image it then shows the new version of the image, but on the entry it still reverts to the old version (also for the thumbnail). Even though I should not need one, how can I get a mentor? To ask a few things, so I can avoid using the help desk. Obviously mine isn't a request but a curiosity. JackkBrown (talk) 13:11, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown: Hi there! When I'm looking for documentation to help a user at the Help desk, but I don't know the specific page, I guess by typing WP: followed by a word related to the topic. In this case, I tried WP:MENTOR, which is a shortcut to Wikipedia:Mentorship. Hope this helps you find what you're looking for. GoingBatty (talk) 16:23, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown That link is is useful but mainly describes an old feature. The current mentorship program which assigns mentors to all new editors is activated by the "Newcomer homepage" feature which is automatically activated for new accounts. You can test it out (and be assigned a mentor) by clicking the relevant box at the bottom of Special:Preferences. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:32, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull: I cannot find ("You can test it out (and be assigned a mentor) by clicking the relevant box at the bottom of Special:Preferences."). JackkBrown (talk) 22:51, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown Scroll to the foot of Special:Preferences and tick box under "Newcomer editor features" where it says "Display newcomer hompage". Then you must navigate to your own Userpage at User:JackkBrown, where you will now see an extra tab in the interface, so the top menu row of tabs below your name will read "Homepage" "User Page" and "Talk". Click on the Homepage tab to see all sorts of stats and a panel about your assigned mentor. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:06, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Notability rules on Wikipedia

    misplaced policy debate

Hello, before I get started, I know these rules will never be removed. But my question is, why? If Wikipedia is the center of information for people on the internet, why do they not let smaller and less notable articles be allowed? They are restricting information on people just because they are not notable enough. I made an article on a local politician named Chris Del Borrello, and it keeps getting taken down because he is not notable enough. What if somebody wanted to learn more info on him who was in his district? If Wikipedia was truly a center of information and user-friendly, there should not be a notability requirement. All kinds of articles should be allowed, as long as they are good articles. Antny08 (talk) 13:31, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We aren't a big old collection of information though. That's a misunderstanding of what we do. We are an encyclopedia, we don't really pander to "inclusion", rather have articles about things that are in the public eye. The notability guidelines are pretty lax really, if you think about what someone needs to have to pass WP:GNG Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:38, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Antny08,

If Wikipedia is the center of information for people on the internet

That's saying something we don't say. First and foremost, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a vague "center of information".

They are restricting information on people just because they are not notable enough.

Not quite. Notability is a fairly broad and nuanced concept, but ensuring notability also means ensuring verifiability in many cases. If articles were allowed for subjects without coverage in reliable sources, Wikipedia would essentially become just another user-generated content mill. You can't write good articles (as you say) about non-notable subjects, because they cannot be verified with any confidence, and therefore cannot be trusted.
Wikipedia also (sort of) extends the concept of notability to ensuring WP:due weight in the representation of notable subjects. If the barrier of what information is worthy of inclusion is removed, every existing article on the site will also get much worse. This may be a fundamental disagreement—but curation is important. Think about a single article: you may agree that more is not always better. There is true information one can add to an article that makes it worse for readers who want to be meaningfully educated. You can naturally extend this concept to inclusion of articles on the site. — Remsense 13:40, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But especially for politicians, they are not counting reliable and good sources as worth anything because it is “regular campaign coverage”. I still believe that this is false and it doesn’t make sense to not include that is notable, as politicians are the things people need the more information on. Antny08 (talk) 13:43, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
     Courtesy link: Christopher Del Borrello
It's generally helpful to provide a link if you're writing about a specific grievance so that people talking to you have adequate context. — Remsense 13:46, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will put it this way: there is nothing inherently interesting or notable about a person running for political office. Thousands of people do that every year. — Remsense 13:48, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But yes, if Wikipedia is an “encyclopedia”, then it doesn’t really matter if it is interesting or not. There are people, especially locally, who might want to know information about Chris Del Borrello. This is giving that information on him. Antny08 (talk) 13:55, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Campaign coverage is about his campaign, not him personally. 331dot (talk) 13:47, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But the campaign articles also talk about him, not just his campaign. Antny08 (talk) 13:54, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Antny08 There are other websites with less stringent requirements that are better suited to what you describe.
In the case of Christopher Del Borrello you have done an excellent job of summarizing his activities and views, but little information about how he is considered by independent sources to be important/significant/influential. 331dot (talk) 13:46, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    What websites? Antny08 (talk) 14:33, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] "Not notable" doesn't mean "nor important" or "not interesting." It means "not enough published in Reliable sources on which to base an article."
In addition to the sources being reliable, the matter cited must be independent of the subject (so no press releases, interviews, etc.), and must discuss the subject at some length, not just mention them in passing or include them in a listing. Such published sources are necessary so that readers can (potentially) check them for themselves to confirm that they contain the information in the article that is being cited to them: see WP:Verifiability.
If your Drafts are being declined, it is probably because you have not used sufficient and suitable sources. It may be that you have failed to find ones that exist, or that they do not (yet) exist because this subject is not (yet) prominent enough to have had much published about him independently of him: after a cursory websearch I suspect the latter is the case. Remember that Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia, not a Directory of Everybody in the World.
It might help you to read Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Politicians and judges, Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, and of course Wikipedia:Notability. {THe poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.104.88 (talk) 13:54, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    My two redirect pages

    Hi Team,

With new information about a live-action Teasing Master Takagi-san film, I am having trouble with my two redirect pages: Teasing Master Takagi-san (2022 film) and Teasing Master Takagi-san (film).

I initially created Teasing Master Takagi-san (2022 film) redirect page (for the anime film) after initial news of the series having a live-action film. But I move that redirect page to Teasing Master Takagi-san (film) after new info that the live-action is for television.

Now that live-action film is also confirmed alongside the live-action television, with the film's release date set to May 2024, I am planning to create Teasing Master Takagi-san (2024 film). However, I am stuck on what to do with Teasing Master Takagi-san (film).

What can I do to fix this? Can I create a redirect page for 2024 film and keep the other two as it is OR delete the two redirect pages and start over?

Any tips will be appreciated. Thank you so much! Centcom08 (talk) 15:35, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Centcom08: Hi there! I suggest creating the 2024 film article first, and then changing Teasing Master Takagi-san (film) to a disambiguation page with links to each film. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: That is a good suggestion! I'll create an article for the 2024 film once new info and interviews start to come in. Thank you so much! Centcom08 (talk) 16:25, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Best practice in refactoring level-2 headers on talk pages

Occasionally, new editors may copy-paste sections of article content onto talk pages that include various headers, including level-2 headers (example, the two "Composition" level-2 headers should be part of the edit-request thread), which interfere with the Discussion Tools and the table of contents. Is there a preferred way in refactoring these headers in line with WP:OTHERSCOMMENTS (nowiki tags, collapsing, deleting, etc.), or should these threads be left alone? Liu1126 (talk) 15:53, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Liu1126 in the example you gave the easiest solution was to change the level-2 headers to level-3 headers and the editor who answered the request did so. TSventon (talk) 19:25, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I clicked on the link in reference n. 3 and was warned by the site itself that it's dangerous (translation from Italian: "Dangerous site. @JackkBrown: Hello! It's better to add the archived version (on Wayback Machine), than delete. Deltaspace42 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @JackkBrown: Instead of deleting a reference, you can try finding an archived version that isn't dangerous. For example, copy the URL and paste it into the Wayback Machine and you'll get this archive-url, which you can add into the reference with |archive-url= and |archive-date= parameters. You can also add |url-status=unfit to the reference to hide the link to the dangerous URL. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:28, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As a followup, I was checking this reference to see whether it was legitimately a dangerous site or just an unencrypted connection, and got a browser warning I had never seen before, so I retrieved the archive and marked the original URL as unfit. Apologies, this is for the Netflix Documentary about Jon Batiste and his wife Suleika... American Symphony (film) Emcpherson0 (talk) 18:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Emcpherson0: So it's about the infobox in American Symphony (film) which links "Mercury Studios" to Mercury Records. We don't link infobox fields to external websites. Links go to Wikipedia articles but Mercury Studios doesn't have its own article. We often link to a related article instead. Mercury Records has a brief mention of Mercury Studios and they have the same owner Universal Music Group. Eagle Rock Entertainment says "In 2020, Universal Music established Mercury Studios which absorbed Eagle Rock Entertainment." Would Universal Music Group, Mercury Records, Eagle Rock Entertainment or a fourth Wikipedia article be the best target for "Mercury Studios"? I don't know. Is Mercury Studios basically a new name of Eagle Rock Entertainment? If so then that should probably be the target. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page Deleted - How to restore or recreate?

The page about me - "john jones (record producer)"- was deleted in 2017-18 after I edited it. The page was deleted for me not being notable according to this notice - "page does not exist" from January 2018 - John Jones (record producer)

How can the page be restored? Because it is about me, do I need to hire someone to make a new page?

Thank you, John Jones (JJ) Johnibjones (talk) 17:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If it is written by yourself and is about yourself, various red flags start to appear, including WP:COI and WP:ABOUTME. Wikipedia is not designed to do these things, and you should look at having a profile on Facebook or LinkedIn rather than trying to do it here.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:48, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding. My page started in 2001 and was not written by me. I was one of the first, if not the first record producers on wikipedia. I am a Grammy awarded music producer, songwriter and recording artist.
I need advice as how to get the page back. Not having my page on wikipedia is destroying my business since the music services and press use wikipedia to search for music and record producers using it. The person who deleted my account was in error and gave me no opportunity to remove my edits! Johnibjones (talk) 19:03, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Winning a Grammy award might be a good indicator that you're notable by Wikipedia's special definition of the term, @Johnibjones, but it would need to be an award you specifically won, not something awarded to - for instance - a studio album you were one of many producers on (Falling into You?).
The main thing here is to find reliable, independent secondary sources with significant coverage of you. You, specifically. And they must be independent - not interviews; not biographies published by you or an employer. Reading WP:42 might be of help (and also perhaps An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing). 57.140.16.1 (talk) 19:16, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that most of the page's data went up in 2002 had a lot to do with the references not being included. At the time the page was deleted I was trying to add references. Johnibjones (talk) 19:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnibjones We would highly discourage getting involved in paid editing firms: most are scams, and most Wikipedia editors heavily disapprove of them as it goes against the entire ethos of Wikipedia.

The deleted article did not meet Wikipedia's current standards for establishing notability. But Wikipedia still has a category "Albums produced by John Jones (record producer)". I agree with what Qcne wrote above, and suspect that some volunteer who knows the field might be willing to create a new article. Maproom (talk) 19:30, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the link. I see that it only has 3 albums listed. Am I allowed to add the other 50?
But seriously, my biggest problem is my name. Before 2018, Google and other search engines found me by my wiki page and domain name. Now they can't find me and only find people with different spellings! Johnibjones (talk) 19:41, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Johnbjones I don't mean to sound cruel- but Wikipedia is not concerned with search results or "knowledge panels". The presence of a Wikipedia article is usually only one possible input. 331dot (talk) 20:07, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnibjones: I searched Google for "John Jones record producer" and found lots of information about you. Category:Albums produced by John Jones (record producer) now has 5 7 albums listed. The category is added to the article about the album, so if Wikipedia doesn't have an article about the album (e.g. Alan Frew's Hold On), the category won't show the album. @Jax 0677: I believe it's fixed now – I assume you're referring to indentation, not indenture. Reducing the heading levels to be at least as low as their parent headers fixes the issue in this case. Tollens (talk) 00:14, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    (moving an article)

I am trying to move an article about track and field coach Art Venegas. I placed it in the sandbox, and I am trying to move it into another platform for review. I feel ridiculous, but I'm pretty old and very analog. Will someone please help this aging Luddite out? Eric-Dieter (talk) 01:30, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eric-Dieter, the draft was moved a few days ago and is now at Draft:Art Venegas. There is a button you can press to request a review, but there are some questions about the references at the top of the page which you should look at first. Come back if you have more questions. How do I exclude certain accounts (i.e. bots) from my watchlist?

As above. I watch a lot of pages I have created and mass-editing efforts such as WP:PIQA are very valuable but make it difficult to discern content additions from small automated edits. VRXCES (talk) 07:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vrxces: While I don't believe there is a way to exclude any particular account, there are some filters you might find useful – if you click the "Filter changes" box, you should be able to scroll down to "Human (not bot)", which if enabled will only show non-bot edits. You might also want to enable "Non-minor edits" in that same filters dropdown. Tollens (talk) 07:31, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect! Thanks for your help :) VRXCES (talk) 08:30, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vrxces: Hi there! There are some other options being discussed at Wikipedia:Bots/Noticeboard#Flooding watchlists. GoingBatty (talk) 15:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page views for a single article from a particular country?

    Hello,

Is there a way I can find the approximate page views by humans from Turkey for the English article Electric car please, for example for last month or last year? Chidgk1 (talk) 09:52, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, because the Pageviews analysis tool by MusikAnimal does not list this as one of the features.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:07, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know this is not possible. There's a tool to see the pageviews of Electric car and its equivalent pages across all languages (here), where you can see that en.wiki accounts for about 1/4 of the pageviews across the 76 wikis which have an article, and the tr.wiki article got less than 10% of the number of views the en.wiki article did, but as far as I can work out there's no way to break down the en.wiki article's pageviews except for between desktop, mobile browser, and app views.
You can see how many pageviews en.wiki in general got from any particular country in a specific month here, but Turkey seems to be one of the countries excluded from the dataset "for privacy reasons". Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 10:15, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Referencing errors on Hemolytic–uremic syndrome

Reference help requested. I do not understand what is the error exactly, so I couldn't fix it, please help me who to fix it. Thanks Thanks, Mostafa Elbaba (talk) 11:09, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mostbaba The edit you linked was made last August and fixed later on so the article now is fine. The main problem was that you had put the URL external link into the |date parameter instead of the |URL one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:15, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
May thanks for clarification and prompt response. I do understant now. Mostafa Elbaba (talk) 11:20, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mostbaba: In case it helps, here's a link to the edit where the references were fixed. GoingBatty (talk) 14:57, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to know if my wikipedia article has been removed?

And how to improve it Singh Ena (talk) 14:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We are not mind readers. You will have to provide an article name, or some other means to figure out what you are referring to. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:31, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article was about a politician of Nepal and his name is Ujawal Jha. I wanted to do some edits but i am unable to find it. Can you please help me out? Singh Ena (talk) 14:38, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Singh Ena The article was deleted after this discussion, it seems like it had a history of problematic editing. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:47, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You also had a draft in your sandbox, User:Singh Ena/sandbox, which was deleted as blatant promotion. 331dot (talk) 14:49, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a whole new 'personal life' section to a page (created by someone else) about a relative of mine, who was a cricketer of note in the early 1920s. I have a few selected photos (family heirlooms) that I believe would be helpful to readers: a professional portrait photo dated 1917 (in soldier's uniform), another dated 1920 (in cricketing clothes), one copyright "Sports Pictures", and one that I suspect was taken for Essex County Cricket Club in 1921. None was taken by me (they are all more than 100 years old!); but I very much doubt whether the original copyright holders could be traced now or even still exist. Are they now out of copyright by virtue of their age? Or do they become my copyright if I photograph the photographs before uploading them? Or will they remain for ever unusable? I'd be grateful for some guidance. Gangnam Woodford (talk) 16:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gangnam Woodford, there's one problem with your addition - you didn't cite any sources. That's understandable, since most of the rest of the article doesn't cite any sources either, but this is actually an issue (and I've added a maintenance tag about it). Where did you get the information about his personal life? Has it been published somewhere or are you just drawing on family lore? 57.140.16.1 (talk) 17:00, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gangnam Woodford: No, copyright is not eternal. Duration varies by country. See List of countries' copyright lengths. You can almost certainly justify your specific examples under the UK's "author unknown" category, which is a 70-year expiry. But you must explicitly explain this for each upload. If you make a non-creative copy, you are not adding any creative elements and you have nothing to copyright. If you include an image of a photo in another work (e.g., a collage or an interpretation of some sort) then your work is a "derived work" in which you own the copyright, but the copyright of the original photo is not affected: if it was Public domain, your derived work is all yours, and if it was copyrighted, you must adhere to its copyright (e.g., by getting a license to use it from the copyright holder). -Arch dude (talk) 18:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Neutral word/phrase for promiscuous

I'm currently working on the article for Hart Crane and the sentence In 1925, he briefly lived with Caroline Gordon and Allen Tate until they were unable to endure the disruptions caused by his promiscuous lifestyle. None of the synonyms Google gives me seem any better and phrases like "heavily sexual" just feel clunky. Sincerely, Novo TapeMy Talk Page 19:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
