Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Mhsb (talk | contribs) at 04:34, 30 June 2009 (Requesting full protection of Honduras. (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

List of emo artists (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection, Requesting temporary semi-protection. This page gets ~2-4 drive-by additions or removals per day from new IP editors because of the provocative nature of the word "Emo." As an experiment, I'm suggesting 2+ months of semi-protection. Semi-protection, high levels of POV-pushing from IPs and new accounts. Don't know what's the procedure for protection over NPOV issues, sorry if it's an illegitimate request, but the sheer number of anons and new accounts is making it really difficult to get content policies enforced. <eleland/talkedits> 21:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

High levels of IP vandalism despite the inclusion of hidden comments to advise that all tracks should be properly sourced. leaks are not appropriate for the article. some users constantly add conent with poor sources and frankly it is near impossible for this article to contain any factual content. Semi move protect Moving these templates will ruin my signature. I want to prevent anybody but me moving the templates. --Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 12:30, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there some reason to think they'll be moved? The reason I ask is that semi move protection will still allow any auto-confirmed user to move them, and full protection will keep you from moving them.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 17:58, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I put full protection, only admins can move it? I worry that some vandal MIGHT move it. This will ruin the links in my signature, isn't it? --Tyw7  (Talk • Contributions) 14:01, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at WP:SIG, it seems like this kind of a page is discouraged. (I'm not an expert on this, just going by what I'm reading.) Your sig is small enough that it will fit in the signature box of your preferences, which will prevent any mischief and be kinder to the servers. Then you'll have no vandal worries.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 22:30, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd like to request protection and non-deletion for the page ".999 Refutation". This page presents valid information but is unable to provide "adequate formal online sources" as this is a topic that has been for many years frowned upon by the mathematical community. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nameuserrandom1234 (talkcontribs) 03:52, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    User talk:Wikipéire (edit | user page | history | links | watch | logs)

Talk page was blocked 14 months as myself as the then blocked user submitted too many appeals. I then went on to get a permanent ban and was told by the Arbcom committee I could "re-apply with proposals for appropriate editing restrictions and we will re-consider your application" after "six-months absence from the English Wikipedia." My email isn't working and I wish to apply to be reinstated into the community as the above condition has been served, so I am asking for my former talk page to be unblocked so that I may then use it to then make my full appeal to an admin and the Arbcom committee, as otherwise I have no platform to make my appeal, successful or otherwise.78.16.47.44 (talk) 22:28, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected for the purpose of posting an appeal to the Arbitration Committee per Wikipedia:Appealing_a_block#Appeal_to_the_Arbitration_Committee only; inappropriate use of the talk page will result in it being protected again. — Aitias // discussion 22:46, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of these pages has been blocked (for good reason). However, this is a common slang term for the perineum, and should redirect to this article. If this request is granted, it may be wise to place a new protection on them after they have been created to prevent the original reason for their protection (the definition "a penis that is wider than it is long", etc.) from happening again . — The Man in Question (gesprec) · (forðung) 09:51, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Category:Disney Villains (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

This category was deleted because characters must not be categorized as villains per WP:POV and OR. The page was protected after it was recreated by adding articles on fictional characters into it without any reference. However, The Walt Disney Company has released a franchise named "Disney Villains", which is more than just characters (antagonists, witches, etc.) There are direct-to-video films, video games and other merchandise by the franchise that can be categorized under "Category:Disney Villains", as well as the characters in the official line-up. Therefore, the idea of unprotecting this category is not to add fictional characters only because they are bad guys, as was incorrectly done in the past. --LoЯd ۞pεth 19:19, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Quebec City (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Sourced information has been forcefully omitted, I have tried to add the information and it was constantly vandalized. I was forced to sign up for an account even though I have been editing for over three years without. There is no information in the law that Created the City of Québec (English of French) that states that "City (Ville)" is the mayor and city council and that "city (ville)" is the boundaries of the city as the opposing person keeps stating. I did realize that I had accidentally put city without the capital C, but corrected and properly mentioned the correction. In the English language in Québec, by law, when speaking of municipalities that are cities, it it required that "City of X" be used, and not "X City". This information has been sourced, but the opposing forces are mistranslating the Government of Québec's French text that specifies the rule. I find that the rule is ludicrous and personnaly object to it, but it is a fact and needs to be included in the article. I am requesting protection removal in order to finish the editing. --UnQuébécois (talk) 08:29, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

I would like for the protection to be re-analysed. I would like to request temporary full-protection as due to the risk of vandalism due to Jackson's controversy (such as pedophilia theories etc....) and media coverage which is currently highly world-broadcasted, and due to the high risk to the article's neutral status. The protection should become semi-protection once again at a time when media coverage has minimised to a point that is appropriate.
