Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 60.51.86.240 (talk) at 04:10, 4 August 2009 (Reverted 1 edit by Momusufan identified as vandalism to last revision by 60.51.86.240). Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protect. A recent burst of IP vandalism activity as a result of editing disagreements. Procedures were taken to discuss this on the talk page, but various IPs refuse to discuss the situation, instead choosing to continue to edit-war and vandalise user pages of those involved. On behalf of the editors involved, we feel that semi-protection would at least make the IP editors start discussing on the talk page. --[[::User:Sb617|Sb617]] (talk · contribs) 03:40, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note that me and User:Sb617 have been receiving inappropriate block warnings from various IPs. Charmedaddict (talk) 03:50, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm request a temp-block to user [[::User:Sb617|Sb617]] (talk · contribs) due to vandalism the article before any final decision been make. Admin, pls notice that the user [::User:Sb617|Sb617]] (talk · contribs) is keep on undo the message at here.

Semi-protection, IP vandalizing it right now, also it has been vandalized too many times before. --Taylor Karras (talk) 02:47, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Enigmamsg 03:34, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection, I'm a prime target for vandals nowadays. Jeff M | Talk2Me | BNosey - 02:31, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. Enigmamsg 02:32, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection vandalism, Temporary but long, please. Someone( or conceivably a group, but.. really... someone) using IPs to insert pictures of Prince of Wales as a notable resident of Stillwell, OK; removing a reference for a Chief; adding non-notable silliness. Protection previously declined due to lack of recent vandalism. This is slow, ongoing annoyance. - sinneed (talk) 01:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected one month. Malinaccier (talk) 01:25, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection A ton of IP's keep adding speculation to the article (specifically what they think the main event for 2009 will be, despite the fact that only 2 matches have been announced and neither have been announced as the main event). TJ Spyke 23:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. This looks more like an edit war than vandalism. Try explaining to the anons without templates what you are doing. Please do not violate 3RR. Malinaccier (talk) 23:38, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
IP's do this every month. For the last PPV (Night of Champions (2009)), they kept adding (even as the PPV was starting) that the main event would be Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Cena. That match ended up being in the middle of the card and the main event was CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy. This is not a matter of unsourced material, it's nothing more than IP's adding what they THINK the main event will be. An IP doesn't seem to ever add it back after being warned, so the problem is not there. It's not a content dispute, it's no different than someone editing next year's Super Bowl article to add in who they THINK will be in it. Would you decline that protection request and tell them to seek a dispute resolution? TJ Spyke 23:45, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Semi-protected one week. Malinaccier (talk) 01:03, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection vandalism, Persistent vandalism and addition of speculative rumors by new accounts and IPs. This new rash of speculative rumor editing occurred immediately after the last protection expired. HarlandQPitt (talk) 23:03, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for a period of 5 days. Malinaccier (talk) 23:19, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection user talk of blocked user, Abuse of the Unblock template. December21st2012Freak (talk) 22:31, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Done # days. J.delanoygabsadds 22:35, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection dispute, Multiple editors continually restoring the article's content against consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/What If (Coldplay song). The article's content has been copied into my userspace (see User:Dylan620/Sandbox/What If (Coldplay song)) per discussion here. Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 21:44, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for four days. Malinaccier (talk) 23:22, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Full-protection, This page is undergoing revert wars (among many IP users and even admins). Right now it redirects to Ubuntu (philosophy), as agreed upon on the talk page. Several users, continue to change it to Ubuntu (operating system), even though notices have been placed on the page, Ubuntu telling users to discuss on the talk page. PopMusicBuff talk 21:36, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected indefinitely. Malinaccier (talk) 23:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create-protection, This page will almost never be a title of a legitimate article, and has no reason to allow creation without discussion. . Feinoha Talk, My master 21:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Article only created twice; not a problem right now. Malinaccier (talk) 23:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection for one week. An IP editor has repeatedly added unsourced POV and other problematic edits.[1] Protection is intended to bring the editor to the talk page. The article is fairly quiet otherwise so there won't be much effect on other editors. Once the editor starts talking we can lift the protection.   Will Beback  talk  20:05, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected indefinitely. Malinaccier (talk) 23:28, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Article has been under attack by IPs who vandalize references. . Wildhartlivie (talk) 19:50, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for a period of one week. Malinaccier (talk) 23:24, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection, Requesting an unprotect Fabian Delph as his transfer is now a fact rather than speculation. --Wikipediatastic (talk) 17:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected – That does seem to resolve the dispute. Please make sure to source said information properly. — madman bum and angel 19:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Semi protection. An anonymous editor (or editors) is reapplying previous vandalism to the page from various IP addresses.--Michig (talk) 20:11, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Important recent source to add to the article. I mentioned this on talk but got no response. -- 209.6.238.158 (talk) 00:39, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – For what statement(s) already in the article is this a source? In the future, using {{editsemiprotected}} or listing the page in the section below will garner more attention regarding singular edits to semi-protected pages. — madman bum and angel 19:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is important to move Jean Grey page to Phoenix (comics). Marvel characters have recently known her as Phoenix, as she took the name herself in honor for her daughter after she returns to X-Men. As Jean herself says that she is always Jean Grey and always the Phoenix, which means that they are now inseparable entity. (talk) 19:07, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – There is currently no consensus for this move; please discuss this move on the article's talk page or at Wikipedia:Requested moves, keeping in mind that this article was move-protected when other contributors tried to do much the same thing, indicating that consensus seems to favor the current title. — madman bum and angel 19:32, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Several attempts to add information to the page which keep being removed and then re-added. Current dispute going on. Semi-protection for a few days would stop this from occurring. RM-Taylor (talk) 16:22, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. King of 17:07, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Undo Semi-protection - I recently created a new wikipedia account due to the fact that I have not used my old one in quite a while and forgot my password. I have edited this page quite frequently and there are some comments regarding the encyclopedia-ness of some of the sections I would like to dispute this as well. -- C geertz talk 16:39, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Already unprotected. Page is not protected, please use article talk pages to talk about disputes in articles. Momo san Gespräch 16:56, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create-protection, Hoax/vanity article recently deleted for the third time at AfD. Appears to be part of a long-term attempt by the subject or someone affiliated with the subject to maintain a promotional 'presence' on WP. I'm requesting it here instead of doing it myself for reasons of best practice. Kurt Shaped Box (talk) 08:18, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Fully protected indefinitely. Nja247 10:58, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection, high amount of IP vandalism. Grandmaster 04:59, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nja247 10:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Excessive vandalism by IP edits, possibly never going to end, I'm so sick of babysitting this article. . GunMetal Angel 02:51, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. IF you're having issue keeping up on the article, perhaps there's a Wikiproject that could help watching. Unfortunately the vandalism is not severe at all or frequent enough to warrant protection at this time. Nja247 10:42, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
