Siddiqui, (also rendered as Siddiqi, Siddique, Siddiquee, Siddighi, Sadighi, Seddighi, Sidiki or Siddiquie) (Arabic: صدیقی) is a Muslim family name, found in South Asia and the Middle East. Shaikh is an additional title used occasionally by Siddiqui/Siddique to signify their Arab heritage.

Origin

The name "Siddiqui" derives from the word Siddiq, which means "truthful" in Arabic. "Al-Siddiq" was the title accorded to Abu Bakr (Arabic: ابو بكر الصديق), the first Khalifa (Caliph) and close friend of the Islamic prophet Mohammad. He was the greatest of the Companions or Sahabba and belonged to the Banu Taim clan of the Quraish. The surname "Siddiqui/Siddique" signifies ancestry (purported or otherwise) from Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq.

In South Asia, the name Siddiqui implies membership of the Shaikh community, which is one of the four communities that make up the Ashraf category. Communities that use the surname include Manihar, Muslim Kayasths, Bisati and the Shaikhs.

The Siddiqui surname is found among a number of ethnic groups and communities spread across Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and South Asia.

Siddiqui of Badaun

Between 1690 and the early 20th Century, the District of Badaun/Badayun, in India, was ruled by the Rohilla Siddiqi Nawabs. The broader Siddiqui clan of Badayun was known for its leadership in the areas of Islamic scholarship, tasawwuf ("Sufism", or Islamic spirituality), and literature (producing several well-known poets and writers). Dargah Luari Sharif

Khwaja Muhammad Zaman, also known as Sultan-ul-Aulia, the founder of Dargah Luari Sharif, District Badin, Sindh, Pakistan, was among the prominent Siddiquis in the Subcontinent. According to Luari Ja Lal, (by Dr. H.M. Gurbakhshani) he was the direct descendant of Abdulrehman ibn Abu Bakr, the eldest son of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq.

Pirzada Siddiqui family of Haryana

The qawami Siddiqis, as they are commonly known, are the most politically conscious people of 'Rohtak & Maham'. They participated wholeheartedly in the freedom movement of India, Khilafat movement and Pakistan movement. On migration to Pakistan, about four thousand Siddiqis of this 'Qawami Clain' setteled down in Karachi, Multan, Lahore,Lodhran, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. With them they brought their tradition of spreading of knowledge and inspiring devotion. They constructed about one hundred mosque in Mirpur and Kotli districts of Azad Kashmir. In some towns the religious schools are also attached with the mosques. The famous people of this 'Qwami Siddiqui' family are, 'Hadi Haryana' Shah Muhammad Ramzan, Shah Muhammad Ismil Siddiqui, Pirzada Muhammad Huassian, Hazrat Qazi Shah Fatah-e-ullah Siddiqui Mirpuri, Professor Dr.Arsh Siddiqui, Professor Manzoor ul Haq siddiqui and Justice M.A Shahid Siddiqui.

Makhdooms of Hala

Makhdooms of Hala also Siddiqui according to Tarikh Babul Islam Sindh by Dr. Habibullah Siddiqui. The are the children of Muhammad, the youngest son of Abu Bakr.

Siddiqui of Pat Sehwan and Hala are belong to Siddiqui family their ancestors migrated from Baghdad in Iraq to Sindh during 11th century.

Manihar Siddiqui

The Manihar or more commonly referred to as the Siddiqui Manihar, are a Muslim community, found mainly in North India, and the province of Sindh in Pakistan. A small number of Manihar are also found in the Terai region of Nepal. More detail about : Manihar

Sipritual Siddiqui or NaqshBandi

Some people also call themselves as Siddiqui or Naqshbandi. They are not by lineage or ethinicty Siddiqui but by sipritual linkage with Hazrat Abu Bakkar Siddique. More detail is on: Naqshbandi.

Siddiquis are also widely distributed in the areas of Balochistan, KPK and Afghanistan they Speak Balochi Barahvi Pashto Farsi and Urdu. Some of them write Qureshi as their casts as the Siddiquis are actually from the Bani Taym clam of the Quresh Tribe of Arabia. They main;y consist of the people who were settled in Afghanistan after they came with Mohammad bin Qasim and then they migrated from the Ghazni province of Afghanistan with the Ghizais (Khiljis) like Lodhis and Suris and then when the ghilzais were ruling they settled in different areas. They also migrated from Afghanistan with the Mughals.
