Welcome!

Hello, Martarius, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I noticed with interest your link to Chipstead RFC. I moved it though into the ref as I added encyclopedic knowledge that it has been open since 1960. Otherwise the link would be deleted as wikipedia is not really a directory. Hope that's OK. If you live in the area a photo would really enhance the page. SuzanneKn 17:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that's fine with me, because external links sometimes have information relevant to their subjects. (Martin Banting 18:03, 30 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, thanks for your work on the Treorchy page. I'm not too much of a fan of the Trivia heading, just like the person who posted the warning. Do you think we could somehow bring the Trivia notes (which I do think are valid) under Entertainment or maybe change it to Cultural references or something. I also don't like the placement of the photo, it would look far better towards the top of the page, so people see it straight away when they enter the article. What are you thoughts?--FruitMonkey 10:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, especially when they just have one piece of information {Martin B 10:58, 1 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Album genre categories

Hi there. I see you're adding a bunch of albums to Category:Alternative rock albums. Please see the note at that category that says that albums should not generally be added to the category directly. Have a nice day. --PEJL 15:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I've been putting in albums in that category when the genre is Alternative rock according to their infoboxes (Martin B 15:54, 6 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I've now reverted most of these. See also WP:ALBUM#Categories for more info on how the categories for albums work. --PEJL 16:06, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for becoming a member of The Simpsons WikiProject. The Project has been around for over a year and has seen many Simpsons related articles improved exponentially. The members of the Project have achieved many successes, including getting an an entire season of The Simpsons promoted to Featured topic status as well as getting many articles promoted to Featured article and Good article status. For a full list of Project accomplishments, see this page. There are currently several drives within the project, including a drive to improve the episodes of season 1 and a drive to improve the core articles of the project. If you would like to work on a page and need help, please see our guide to sources or the style guide. If you require any further assistance, please leave a message on the project talk page, or ask myself or Gran2. Once again, thank you for joining the project, and happy editing.

Important: We're currently going through a membership reconfirmation, so you should probably go here and add your name. -- Scorpion0422 16:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Beach Boys

Why have you removed The Beach Boys from the category:American rock music groups? MookieZ 18:40, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's in one of it's subcategories (Martin B 18:47, 5 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
That is a template that is in the subcategory... I think it was better the other way. MookieZ 18:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ozzy

Why have you reverted my edit to the name of Ozzy's boxed set? Look it up, the "vandalism" was obviously not mine but rather the original editor who made it Princess. Idiot.

I'm sorry

Invitation to join WP:FG

A potential chat session with Bill Oakley

We at the Simpsons WikiProject have managed to get into contact with the one and only Bill Oakley (who showran The Simpsons from season 7 to 8) and he has agreed to send us some images and to do an IRC chat in the future with us so that we can ask questions about things that we can use in articles. The transcript of this chat will hopefully be posted at NoHomers.net, which I think will be a good enough sorce. Failing that, we'll try The Simpsons Archive. Every member is more than welcome to take part, which will be held at our #wpsimpsons channel. Because not everyone will be able to make the chat, a page has been made where any member can post questions that can be asked. Remember, no fan questions, and due to a lack of time, try to limit it to ones that will help improve an article. That page is here. If you have any questions, ask myself, Xihix (who is the one in contact with him) or post it at WT:DOH, which is where any future updates will be posted. -- Scorpion0422 02:58, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Large Marge

Do you have a source for the "alternate storyline" in the production section of Large Marge?

No, especially because I did not type in that information, I just moved it out of the trivia section into a section of its own. Martarius (talk) 09:40, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you think the Differences from the novel section in its present form constitutes original research since no reliable sources have been provided for this section? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 10:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and I think that section is fancruft. Martarius (talk) 10:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Combining templates

I note you combined templates on Adult contemporary music, a page with only two cleanup templates! As far as I can see, the blurb on WP:TMC says "if too many tags are piled at the top of an article, the article starts being eclipsed by the tags". Template:articleissues itself does not offer any guidance, but its example has 6 templates. Do you really consider 2 tags could be "piled up" and "too many", or is there other advice elsewhere? Personally I would consider 2 too few to consolidate, indeed I have seen people separate a {{articleissues}} when removing an issue so that only 2 remain. I would only combine 3 or more.

Note I'm not planning on reverting or asking you to revert, although I expect someone else may; I'm just surprised that this was done and wondering about your rationale.

Thanks in advance for your views on this, --Rogerb67 (talk) 01:04, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think if an article has two tags at the top, they can be combined or not. But If the article is very long than the templates really need to be combined. Martarius (talk) 13:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blank lines

Hey. Please do not remove blank lines like you have done here and in a large number of other articles as well. These are not "unnecessary", see WP:STUB: It is usually desirable to leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it. Thanks, Prolog (talk) 20:23, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, I didn't know when those articles are going to be too long. Martarius (talk) 10:00, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think to come to a final consensus, we should wait until the season's DVD comes out and found out in the audio commentary of Pandemic to find out if there really is anything notable the previous episode reference. Martarius (talk) 10:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ambigram edits

I noticed you removed two references to (see on ...) in the examples on the Ambigram page. Since a major point of the examples was to enable people to see the actual ambigrams, yet it would be too much to show them inline. I didn't revert your change because I don't know your logic in removing some but not all of them. I would ask you to consider the purpose of having them there. Thanks. RoyLeban (talk) 16:59, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of my edit there was for the ambigram links to still be easy to access from their information but to make more encyclopedic and less like a collection of image links. Martarius (talk) 17:44, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hi, I've noticed that you make quite a few edits to Simpsons articles, quite often fixing my small mistakes. I just wanted to say thank you. However, in the future, when you see original research like this or vandalism like this, could you please remove it or tag it, rather than fixing it?

Do you have any of the DVDs? We have an ongoing Featured topic drive and we always need great editors to work on articles, or just copyedit them, and if you have time to help out, we'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Scorpion0422 18:12, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eveyone with good eyes and common sense can see that the nanny in the half of Burns song is the same as the one from 101 dalmatians. Especially because the episode is a parodie on 101 dalmatians. With your logics we could ask sources for everything. 1 + 1 isn't 2 till we have a viable source, etc.

anyway, here's some graphical evidence. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk218/mijzelffan/nanny.jpg Mijzelffan (talk) 22:05, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - Re: Generation Z

Thank you for your recent edits. Generation Z is still fairly new, and most of the article page need citing. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 13:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome. Martarius (talk) 13:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have attempted to revert edits to these pages (see talk page for both articles), but an editor keeps changing back the dates for Generation Z with only one book as a source to back up his claims. All sources I have seen, including magazines, demographical research, and technological magazines all use the mid-1990s as the starting date for Generation Z, especially 1995. The editor making these changes is 3bulletproof16 (talk). I'd like to see what your opinion is on this. Your edits are appreciated. Thanks. CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 20:41, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, the user seems to be mistaken on the number of sources being used to cite the early 1990's date. See this by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, or simply this by the California Teachers Association for some examples. I believe the user failed to read the citations next to the dates, though he claims only "one book" -whatever that means- was used. Finally, the user continues canvassing.--UnquestionableTruth-- 20:24, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think mid-1990s is the one to have since it has more sources, in which more will agree with. If something as one source it is more likely to be incorrect. Martarius (talk) 20:59, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While I understand your relationship with the user, note that this "something" doesn't have one source but rather five. I invite you to take a closer look at this issue, otherwise simply ignore it if it is a subject you are not familiar with. --UnquestionableTruth-- 21:08, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I lost track of the amount of "early 90's" sources mentioned earlier. Martarius (talk) 21:14, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries.--UnquestionableTruth-- 21:15, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not in disagreement with a couple of sources you provided, but I'm not sure if the website on parenting/pregnancy is appropriate. As I said previously, most sources cite 1995 as the starting date. I think a consensus should be reached before changing the dates in the heading of an article. Others are welcome to give their opinions. CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 21:45, 24 July 2010 (UTC) So has anyone decided on the actual dates used for Generation Z? Most sources I see start with 1995. Shouldn't the dates most used be included in articles? The dates the other user put up overlap with Generation Y. CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 18:39, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Non-English versions of The Simpsons. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Non-English versions of The Simpsons. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you have won one of these, but if you haven't, it's long overdue.

The Simpsons (Annoyed Grunt)-star
For your consistant efforts in maintaining the many Simpsons articles, including fixing my mistakes, watching for vandalism, and making many other useful edits. -- Scorpion0422 20:27, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have not won one yet, so it is overdue. Martarius (talk) 20:31, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see u have edited this article. I want 2 ask how to handle the disagreement between me and another editor over whether the reviews for the album have been "mixed" or "mixed to positive". The other editor says that "mixed" infers positive, like in a range or average, but I say a mixed review is one that is neither unfavorable or favorable (but inbetween), like a 2 and a half out of 5 star review. At Metacritic, the reviews are shown to be mostly mixed and positive ones, with a couple negative. Dan56 (talk) 02:57, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are right to say that mixed means in-between positive and negative because in-between is a 'mix' of positivity and negativity. Martarius (talk) 10:25, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I put up a consensus section at the article's talk page. Would U mind commenting there? Dan56 (talk) 10:35, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. --œ 23:11, 23 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Thanks for straightening out my footnotes on the Doug Preston and MoMK pages. It would be great if you could make a couple of additions to the documentaries section of MoMK. (1) April 2008 CBS 48 Hours segment "A Long Way from Home", (2) April 2009 CBS 48 Hours segment "American Girl Italian Nightmare", (3) TLC Documentary "Trials of Amanda Knox" (Mar-10), and (4) Dateline NBC "The Trial of Amanda Knox" Dec-09 possibly earlier. These reliable sources have been banned from the article so we'll see how long they last. Footnotes and links aren't my specialty. Thanks. PhanuelB (talk) 18:02, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes

Please weigh in on Talk:List of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes#Inclusion of episode segment links, so we can generate a consensus. Thanks, Fixblor (talk) 09:28, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With regard to edits like this, can you please a) use the proper template name, which is {{IMDb name}}, and b) include the id from the URL to ensure that the link points to the right page. Thanks. PC78 (talk) 08:23, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will do that, but I left out the ID numbers because I test them and they link to the right page automatically. If I left out the id number in the template, it is because I forgot to test the link. Martarius (talk) 16:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit conflict on Chinese Democracy

Would like to help out for this article and the recent unconstructive edits made to it? I suspect the user who recently removed sourced material is a socksuppet of other editors to the article that have removed the exact same material in the past. Dan56 (talk) 21:22, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritical marks on Goran Visnjic's name

You probably won't be pleased to see I've reverted all your edits adding diacritical marks to Goran Visnjic's name in articles referring to his English-language work. While his birth name includes the marks, as does his professional work in his home country, he made a conscious choice to drop them when he began to work in English. The only English-language film in which he is billed with them is "Welcome to Sarajevo"; after that, everything is billed without them. His feeling was that his name was hard enough to pronounce without the added problem of the diacritical marks making it even less accessible. Drmargi (talk) 00:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I actually changed the names to avoid unnecessary redirects, since both his name with diacritics and without have the same amount of letters and to save space on articles. I left his unlinked mentions of his name alone. Martarius (talk) 09:18, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
His name links to his article with either spelling, so I can certainly see the wisdom of taking out the redirects. However, the accuracy issue is a greater one, and the spelling is shorthand for the origins of his work; realistically, it also prevents constant corrections by his fangirls (and he's got a troop of rather too enthusiastic ones!). The greater body of his work is in English, and his article arguably should identify him without diacritical marks, but that's an entirely different discussion for another day. I'd suggest that this many changes should have been discussed on the talk page for his article, rather than simply done, particularly with no more of an edit summary than you left -- shorthand is fine, but doesn't make your motives clear, and in this many articles it risks looking a bit insider-ish, particularly given the number of casual users who edit celebrity articles. I'll backtrack when I have a little time and remove any redirects while preserving the accurate spelling. Drmargi (talk) 15:13, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Don Gilmore for deletion

The article Don Gilmore is being discussed concerning whether it is suitable for inclusion as an article according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ Don Gilmore until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Combo boxes and Catscan

Hello! Last year as we in the Martial Arts group were cleaning articles for notability issues Wikipedia:WikiProject_Martial_arts/Article_Review, we discovered that the CatScan tool does not look inside combo boxes. The notability tag of [1] prevents catscan from finding this article. Would you object if I returned the external tag? Thanks! jmcw (talk) 10:43, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, but the reason I add combo boxes is to make the issues easier to read and to remove any unnecessary space. Martarius (talk) 16:36, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Isfdb_name Name Parameter

Is there a particular reason for this edit? I specifically used the name parameter to avoid issues that occur when pages are moved (i.e defaulting to the article title no longer being correct). Granted, that's less likely to occur with an less common name like this, but dab moves often occur. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:23, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I avoid the name parameter when articles are currently considered to be moved. I removed the name parameters when they are unnecessary to save space. Martarius (talk) 22:27, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's fine & I don't particularly care. However, removing them doesn't save any space. The edit history, which keeps both versions of the page, takes up far more space than those few characters. The rendered page (HTML) size is also the same with or without the parameter so there is also no space saved when viewing the page. -- JLaTondre (talk) 01:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know that the more edits that occur on an article, the more space it takes up. I thought that the size of articles increase only when edits occur which add more characters to it. Martarius (talk) 10:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ivan Hippolyte

This message is regarding Ivan Hippolyte being placed as a K-1 World Max Champion and should be reeditied as a K-3 Grand Prix Champion.

It is to my understanding that the K-3 and K-1 World Max Championships were of seperate catagories and as such should be seperated. Within the K-1 official website they state their K-1 World Max Champions in order of induction. In no official way do they include or recognize Ivan Hippolyte among that list indicating that Ivan should be placed within a separate category. 11:07pm Jan 20, 2011 Guest.
