Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 153.220.77.128 (talk) at 07:14, 19 June 2020. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Eti15TrSf (talk) 00:19, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined This appears to be a content dispute; if you still want protection, please explain how the IP edits meet the definition at WP:VANDAL. Vanamonde (Talk) 05:20, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – High level of disruptive editing, based on current events. This page only needs very short term protection (maybe a couple of days). Grahamevan05178 (talk) 00:56, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed: High level of IP/new user vandalism, but this page is also covered under Arbitration Committee WWII/Poland sanctions so it should be extended confirmed protected. buidhe 02:04, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Done --slakrtalk / 06:55, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Non-consensus changes and edit warring.--Jimi Henderson (talk) 02:11, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please note the context for this: The editor User:Jimi Henderson (also here) who is requesting the Semi-protection was invited to discuss this (with a ping – twice) as recommended by Wikipedia:BRD, also recently warned about 3RR for their reverts (Other posts there show not the first time this editor involved in "edit war" type situations.) Discussion covers in detail why the reverts were off-policy. ░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 08:37, 13 June 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The article is being vandalised by non registered users. So It needs semi protection. — The Chunky urf Al Kashmiri (Speak🗣️ or Write✍️) 02:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Long term problem with similar IP addresses adding WP:OR and whitewashing to this and related articles. . Grayfell (talk) 02:44, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs adding and removing uncited controversial material for the past half day. Jerod Lycett (talk) 02:47, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The article was fully protected due to edit warring, but now that one of the editors engaged in the edit war has been blocked for two weeks, I believe the full protection can be lifted now. (There's also a bunch of complaints on the talk page.) Some1 (talk) 01:23, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I think it's reducing the amount of edits needed to keep the page relevant and up to date. The game is changing daily, but it hasn't been edited in 2 days due to this unnecessary restriction. Daulton7996 (talk) 04:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: It's been protected for over four years already. Given the increasing repression, restrictions on anonymous edits should be relaxed. 202.40.137.199 (talk) 09:53, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Talk:Nicolás Maduro is not protected. The subject's activities may well be the cause of the extensive vandalism to the article, but it's not a reason for relaxing the protection. Favonian (talk) 10:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Do you mean I have to request and then wait for others to approve and if not I need to come back and discuss and back and forth tomorrow and tomorrow after tomorrow to make just one edit? I am just an anonymous volunteer and I do not have easy anonymous internet connection. I do not know what is your criteria for "a reason for relaxing the protection". Is your criteria the criteria of Wikipedia? I believe my reason is one of the reasons that Wikipedia allows anonymous edits. Let it be. Bye. 202.40.137.199 (talk) 10:44, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite no protection: Other rationale. Minimal vandalism to this page evidenced within last 6 months Darren-M talk 19:41, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

The second sentence, "Admins and New Page Reviewers do not need to add themselves, but they need enable AFCH in their gadget preferences", has a grammatical error. Corrected version is "Admins and New Page Reviewers do not need to add themselves, but they need to enable AFCH in their gadget preferences" Anonymous1261 (talk) 12:06, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Caste Reservation Bsaini5 (talk) 14:00, 24 August 2024 (UTC) The Meena fall into the Scheduled Tribe category in the state of Rajasthan and the majority of them are classified as being Hindu,[1] but in Madhya Pradesh Meena are recognised as a Scheduled Tribe only in Sironj Tehsil, Vidisha, while in the other 44 districts of the state they are categorised as Other Backward Classes.[2] Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.[reply]
