- June 28–29 – Two University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna students Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez were abducted and killed by the men of Calauan Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
- July 2 – 266 people were killed after a pagoda sank in Bocaue, Bulacan due to overloading of the boat.
- September 24 – Biggest corruption case in the Philippines. Former first lady Imelda Marcos was convicted for the first time of corruption and sentenced to 24 years in prison.[1]
