Shrewsbury High School is a public high school located in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, USA. It is the only public high school in the Shrewsbury Public Schools district.

Shrewsbury High School placed 27th in the list of 21,035 high schools that U.S News reviewed in 2013.

It is a large school offering a wide variety of electives and extracurricular activities.

The current principal is Todd Bazydlo. Shrewsbury High School is part of Shrewsbury Public Schools, the current superintendent of which is Dr. Joseph Sawyer.

Sports

Shrewsbury High School offers the same number of sports as most high schools, if not more. In the fall the sports offered are: football, cross country, crew,[notes 1] golf, volleyball, field hockey, and soccer. In the Winter the sports offered are: basketball, track and field, swim, ice hockey, and gymnastics. In the spring the offered sports are: lacrosse, baseball, softball, track and field, crew, and tennis. For the boys' basketball games and football games the SHS Pep Band attends, headed by Mr. Brian Liporto, as well as the majority of the student body. Shrewsbury High School offers the unique opportunity where if a sport is not offered, it can be created as a club then, eventually, if popular, can become a sport with proper support.[2]

The school also received the PEP Grant and has fleshed out the classes the school offers in its physical education programs. The new programs include biking and a ropes course.

Music and theater

Shrewsbury High School has 3 sections of theater, the fall play, spring musical, and competition play:

Fall play- Almost, Maine (2010), The Outsiders (2011), Romeo and Juliet (2012), Charlotte's Web (2013), It's a Wonderful Life (2014).

Spring musical- Once On This Island (2008), Seussical (2009), Anything Goes (2010), The Sound of Music (2011), Curtains (2012), Legally Blonde (musical) (2013), Bye Bye Birdie (musical) (2014).

Competition Play- The Diary of Anne Frank (play) (2009), Rabbit Hole (2010), The Tempest (2011), Dancing at Lughnasa (2012), What I Did Last Summer (2013), Enchanted April (2014).

SHS offers a variety of music and theater classes and performing ensembles. The classes include: Music Theory I & II, Theater Arts, Movement for Theater, Theater Design, and Music Technology.[3]

Wind performing ensembles under the direction of Mr. Brian Liporto: Pep Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, Honors Wind Ensemble, Honors Jazz Band[4]

Vocal performing ensembles under the direction of Mr. Michael Lapomardo: Freshman Choir, Mixed Choir, Honors Women's Choir, Honors A Capella[5]
