Hi, I see you deleted this as a copyvio. The source has a disclaimer saying it releases content under the GNU. I had made a note about that when I redid the sources. Did I miss something. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 13:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. I am not comfortable with verbatim copying of text into WP. Just because they release under GNU, can we blatantly copy? Not sure IMO, but then I'm not an expert in copyvio issues. I'm not going to make a fuss about it, else this would not be the place to discuss, but in WP:CP. -- Alexf42 13:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dog World Magazine COI

You said there is a conflict of interest for me to edit the Dog World page. I am in fact the editor of Dog World magazine. The historical information on the Dog World page is wrong. I am only trying to correct the misinformaion (i.e., the date the magazine was first published [Jan. of 1916, not Jan. 1915], who owned the magazine during certain years and removing the strange statement that says Dog World is going to honor those who devoted their lives to Dog World...). I am not going to editorialize or elaborate in any way other than to state the correct historical facts. Thank you.DogWorldEditor (talk) 16:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What?

Im not sure what you mean when you said not to communicate with people. I only ever talk about the topic on Discussion pages.--Super Badnik (talk) 18:22, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your assistance

Dearest Alexf,

Thankyou for the instruction.

Just one question though; have you written a newbie page - Wiki is quite a great deal to Master.

The Nation Builder

The Nation Builder (talk) 18:35, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If by "newbie page" you mean creating a new page from scratch (either writing it yourself or translating an existing page from a interwiki), yes I have actually created over 100 of them (you can see the list in the "Articles" section of my User Page). As long as the subject matter is notable and you can show reliable sources the page will be allowed to stay, either it will not be contested by another editor or it will pass muster if contested. Indeed, it may seem daunting at first to abide by the many rules and policies but if you take it slowly, read help pages like Your First Article and ask for guidance, it is very doable. -- Alexf42 17:02, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changing name of article "GPOCS" to "GPOP"

Pattersonmap (talk) 15:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to have the name of the article or GPOCS changed to GPOP, GPOCS has been superceded by GPOP and GPOCS is no longer available.

Is it possible to change the name of the page? or can you do it?

thank you Michael Patterson

Yes it is possible as long as there is a valid justification and you can show reliable sources. You can do it yourself by clicking on the "move" tab on top then typing the new name and explaining the reason. For more details please read Help:Moving a page. -- Alexf42 16:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Bueno verte de nuevo

Thanks for the welcome! Nevertheless, I will not be spending more than an hour a day on Wikipedia. But that's at least something!

Keeping a portal sounds like a lot of work. Is it supposed to be updated daily, weekly or monthly? Anyway, good luck with the portal; let me know if you need a hand. Mariano(t/c) 07:13, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The photo and article are on a monthly cycle (with several pre-loaded already), news, when they happen, so they are always welcome if you have them, as long as they are fit to print. I try to do few about politics, for example. -- Alexf42 09:37, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I'm not very up-to-date, as I'm again living abroad. But I'll try to put something whenever I see it fit. Take care, Mariano(t/c) 09:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Didn't know you were. Donde? (That makes two of us as you know :-) -- Alexf42 09:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Colombia's article protection did not take place.

Today, I checked the history of that page and it seems like your attempt to protect the page from anonymous users was not successful. The page was edited again, and references to statistical data were removed without previous discussion. Perhaps, if you have a chance, you can look into the situation?

Thank you for your time and assistance. Likeminas (talk) 15:36, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was not semi-protection (done to protect from anonymous IP vandals), but move protection only as there is no valid reason for the article to be moved (renamed) without discussion first. I'll take a look but if you require protection, the best, and fastest place to request is at WP:RFPP. Thanks. -- Alexf42 15:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Soocial page

Hi, I noticed that the Soocial page was deleted by you for reason of not being notable enough (code A7). I was wondering what was lacking in the article? Is it expected for an article to have more references? (these can be provided) I saw the startup Soocial linked on a website to the 'Social' wikipedia page and that's when I decided that Soocial needed their own page.

Thank you for your time, Spazmaster 16:00, 13 August 2008 (GMT +1)

I'd like to ask for your help please...

The deletion log shows you deleted the last version of Ahmed Omar. Could you verify that the previous iterations had no connection to Guantanamo captive Ahmed Umar Abdullah al Hikimi?

Don't know. I delete lots of articles a day (unfortunately we do receive a fair share of unencyclopedic articles). I went back through the logs for the past few weeks and did not find the article you mention. As you know the one you linked here redirects to the Ahmed Umar one. Could you be more specific on the name of the deleted article? -- Alexf42 22:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Valentino: The Last Emperor creation page

Hi there,

I recently tried to submit a new page for the film "Valentino: The Last Emperor," and I was flagged down saying that this was promotional, etc, etc. I assure you that I apologize for any inconvenience, but I am writing directly from the production company so that we may be able to establish this page on wikipedia. I can include more basic info and not a detailed synopsis if that helps. Please let me know if this can be done at info AT valentinomovie DOT com. We would like to have this resolved as soon as possible so that we can have the most accurate info out there regarding our film. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.252.134.18 (talk) 20:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the line above: "I am writing directly from the production company so that we may be able to establish this page on wikipedia" says it all. It is in direct violation of Wikipedia's policies. You should not write an article for one of your company's products and you should not use Wikipedia as a promotion vehicle. Please read the policies on Business FAQ, conflicts of interest, and advertising. Thank you. -- Alexf42 22:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

dear Alexf you cancelled my page on world snowboard day in telling that it is advertising...I am surprised and I think you didn't read my presentation. world snowboard day is a snowboard celebration all over the world ,there is no sponsor and no money around. this is organized by snowboarders for snowboarders...we just try to make that sport more open on masses all over the world. we are recognized by world snowboard federation and we are now developed on more than 20 countries...so why did you cancel my article please ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by FORSANS remi (talkcontribs) 08:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC) why to authorize X Games which is a complete financial tory and not authorize an evennt going on without money ! please tell me..FORSANS remi (talk) 08:59, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou!!!!

Thankyou so MUCH!!!! Muchas gracias amigo!!!!!!!!! Thats awesome. Many thanks. As you may know I've done a lot of work on Argentine cinema on wikipedia and the List of Argentine films. I would love to see more articles like this!!! There are some further Argentine movies and actor articles needing transferring from spanish wiki. Could you help me in my quest to get them into English? Excelente!! The Bald One White cat 21:46, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen your work on the subject. I may in the future, but my main area of editing work is translation and creation of Argentine War of Independence and Argentine 19th-Century history articles which are sadly lacking of are just stubs. I have a long ToDo list of articles and I took this film as a diversion from my usual subject. I would suggest you place a request at the Wikipedia:Argentina-related regional notice board. Not that many people there will jump to help but I'll see it and may take on another project like this in the future. I would also ask as a favor to please give the Guerra Gaucha article a once-over and correct my poor grammar. Also, (this is the extortion part), I'd love a comment/criticism on my work on Portal:Argentina as I'm basically the sole active maintainer and would love to get it to Featured Portal status. Even though I put a request in several places for almost two months, I got not one measly comment or criticism. Thanks. -- Alexf42 21:57, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carfun Footprint Def Change

Our Carfun Footprint definition was deleted a few days ago. What do we need to do to get it posted? I read the rules of posting and think that it comes from an objective position. It read like a plug for the carfunfootprint dot com company. You need to read and understand WP:BFAQ, WP:COI and WP:CORP (some of which you may have already read). These pages will give you an idea of what's needed to be acceptable within Wikipedia's standards. Also please remember to sign your posts in Talk pages by adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end. Help needed

Hi, I think I found an article which is a complete copyright violation. It was uploaded by some unknown user, and has been since expanded by anonymous users only. Can you check it? The article is Més que un club and I put the original links in Talk:Més que un club. HaGamal 23:26, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I checked and it does look like a copyvio even though it has been reworded some. I placed a db-copyvio tag so we inform other admins to take a look as I'm not 100% sure on this one (it might be borderline). What's surprising to me is that it went on for so long unchallenged until you brought it to my attention. -- Alexf42 23:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cassi Davis

I understand this will appear generic considering your reputation however I reverted your deletion of the Cassi Davis article, she has appeared in numerous films and is a recurring main character in a telivision series. Furthermore I have added references to prove all unverified claims, please take into consideration before deleting an article not all users are as advanced as yourself and few are capable of meeting quality standards you have set for an article in order for it to be considered worthy of placement on Wikipedia. Surely however an NAACP award nominated American actresses meets the requirements for notoriety on Wikipedia. I do not intend to go on a rant or start an argument, but it remains unclear why these article was deleted. Certainly Davis exists, she's on telivision every other night and has biographical information on a variety of websites.UniversalBread (talk) 00:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flatmancrooked link on Borges page deleted???

An intern for fmC recently added our link to the Borges page, noting that we're publishing a Borges story currently out of print (ISBN 978-0-9820348-0-4). The link and bibliographic information were both deleted and we are trying to figure out why. The translation of this story and its publication are noteworthy, and the work deserves a readership. We've obtained permission directly from Maria Kodama, Borges' widow. Please let us know how we can make a note of this on the Borges page. Deletion of Sonny Jeffries

Why? It is a for real person and they for real think their all bloods and it had enough info in their for thinking about sonny Jeffries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HairyPerry (talkcontribs)

It was deleted for the stated reason: A7, lack of notability assertion. In order to stay an article like that has to at least comply with WP:BIO. It didn't. -- Alexf42 12:43, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ALLEA

You deletion of ALLEA was wrong. It was absolutely rash, at best. A national academy of science is an organization in which only the country's most elite scientists are members. These are generally considered important organizations.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking into account that the article was written by one of Wikipedia's most respected contributors. Michael Hardy (talk) 05:41, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say it is not notable. I said it does not show notability as it had no sources on a one sentence stub. -- Alexf42 10:16, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its pretty good thanks although it will need some copy editing. How do you go about translating it? Do you just use a translation engine? The Bald One White cat 17:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation engine? Hell no! I copy the article by sections to a text editor (offline) and then translate myself by paragraph on the fly as time permits. When a section is finished I do a quick proofread and try to find typos, and do basic copy-editing as the first pass is a direct translation from the Spanish copy. Then port to the article and press Show preview to identify red wikilinks and try to fix those. Then repeat and rinse. -- Alexf42 17:16, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats what I thought! It seemd to good to be a transaltion ewngine but also there were some awkward phrases which don't translate to easily. I started Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica earlier. I;ve made a good start any help you can give translating any of the smaller sections would be much appreciated. For Costa Rica it is a core article I think The Bald One White cat 17:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletions

Hi, Alex. There is a discussion at WT:CSD about a reason deletion of yours, Cassi Davis. Since I wasn't sure if this was a one-off accident or if you had forgotten that we need to check history, I had a quick look at some of your recent deletions, and I see that you restored another deletion of yours here for a similar reason. Just wanted to remind you that we need to look at the article's history precisely for those reasons. :) Sometimes the history will save the article.

I'm also wondering, now that I've looked at your recent deletions and at your talk page, if you may not fully understand WP:CSD#A7. You tell another editor above that "In order to stay an article like that has to at least comply with WP:BIO." You tell another, "I didn't say it is not notable. I said it does not show notability as it had no sources on a one sentence stub." A7 doesn't require proof of notability. It only requires a suggestion that an article could be notable. As the criterion says, "This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability; to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable." At the point that you deleted Tambuco, for instance, it included an assertion that the band was three-times Grammy nominated. The article on Andy Wheating indicates that he is an Olympic runner. Both of these are assertions of significance and, even though unverified, in fact are assertions of notability as we define it. WP:Athlete includes "Competitors who have competed at the highest level in amateur sports." WP:MUSIC includes "Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury or Grammis award." Wikipedia:CSD#Non-criteria states that notability is not in itself a reason for speedy-deletion, expanding that "Articles that seem to have obviously non-notable subjects are only eligible for speedy deletion if the article does not assert the importance or significance of its subject." Articles like those two should be handled through other processes.

I think you do great work at CSD and certainly perform a valuable function. I used to spend 90% of my wikitime there, but have been able to dedicate myself recently to new challenges thanks to an increase in admins who are willing to help out there. I know that sometimes those CSDs seem to pour in out of nowhere, and keeping on top of that backlog is a never-ending challenge. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:21, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. You may have a point there. I will review A7 and my recent deletions in detail and fix my understanding of A7. Thanks for the heads up. Now if we could reduce the number of kids that think their garage band is notable... -- Alexf42 12:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would make life a lot easier. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:29, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article is not eligible for deletion under A7, because the subject matter is a book. Per WP:CSD, "A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on" EVCM (talk) 13:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article restored. Thanks for the heads up. -- Alexf42 13:45, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you post a warning?

Hey, why did you post me a warning? I was not vandalising? Those facts have NO CITATIONS given. What's wrong with posting [citation needed] notices on them? I mean, it's Wikipedia policy only, nothing goes in an article without proper references. So if somebody says that a fork is an eating utensil, they would have to cite the source. Otherwise stuff like original research prohibition on wikipedia should also be disallowed. If somebody writes that tea is a beverage from this and this plant, they would have to cite their sources. Please do reply to this message and don't give me a reason like "everybody knows what a fork is" or "such things don't need citations", because all that is SUBJECTIVE, you get me? Wikipedia lists ONLY THE FACTS. And something exists only on wikipedia if it has proper sourcs. So instead of giving me "only warnings" like this, take a moment to read through this, and rather than just blocking me, please reply with a decent message. Thank You. Serveg;ugbrown (talk) 02:30, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT TO ABOVE-> I expect a reply, Alexf. It's not fair that you don't reply to users quickly. If I edit another article, you'll be quick to block me, but you take forever to reply. Thanks. Serveg;ugbrown (talk) 02:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, you are complaining I don't reply to users quickly? When you post a message at 2:30 am EDT (Eastern Daylight Savings Time in the USA) you shouldn't expect an immediate response in the middle of the night. Don't forget that Wikipedia is worldwide. A check on my pages would have told you about my time zone. Getting to your warning, posting spurious {{fact}} tags fr everyday, common sense items, like proving that a fork is an eating utensil is a waste of time. Please read the template instructions, specifically the section When not to use this template: Many editors object to what they perceive as overuse of this tag, particularly in what is known as "drive-by" tagging, which is applying the tag without attempting to address the issues at all. Consider whether adding this tag in an article is the best approach before using it, and use it judiciously.
The template should be used for claims where there is a doubt and needs to be verified. You posted it in lots of articles in a very short period of time. Examples from Coffee: Coffee is a widely-consumed stimulant beverage prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans, of the coffee plant.{{fact}}
I take it you may have never seen or drank coffee (or tea for that matter as you did the exact same tagging there), else why would you tag such an obvious case? Sorry but too fast "drive-by" tagging looks like vandalism, especially from a new account that has not yet have a history of judicious editing. So the warning was justified. Note that you were not blocked, just warned, as that is the purpose of the warning. To make you think and ask a question as you did here. Thank you. -- Alexf42 09:47, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sound of urchin page deletion

Hi alex. I created a page for the alternative rock band, sound of urchin. It was a very thorough and comprehensive page for the band. I am inquiring on why it was deleted. Even though the sound of urchin has not had any "mainstream" success, they have three releases on major label RCA Records, a release on Hybrid Recordings (which has a wiki page linked to SOU), articles in major publications such as spin, rolling stone, etc, a video on MTV, performances on major network tv such as the CBS late late show with craig ferguson, a college radio cult hit, and a national fanbase. The band also has members who have played in tenacious d, ween, and other popular major/Indy rock acts, as well as touring with other legendary rock acts such as deep purple, scorpions, dio, twisted sister, cracker, etc. I'm sure you have your reasons for the deletion, but I would like to know what I can do to make the page better, in order to keep it up on wikipedia. The sound of urchin is one of those bands that has been flying under the radar for the 2000s but has managed to gather as much credibilty, history and underground success, if not more than some mainstream "one hit wonder" type acts. Thank you for your time.Tomato11 (talk) 14:43, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please read WP:BAND. There are 12 criteria for notability there. If you can show which one it meets, by providing reliable sources, then the article is encyclopedic enough. I'll even restore the deleted article so it can keep the original history. As it was, an editor tagged it for CSD#A7 and it was deleted. Let me know if I can help. -- Alexf42 15:19, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alex, thank you. I will redo the page with the appropriate references. I have to check to make sure that I have the most updated version of the page. How easy is it for me to edit from my most recent version?Tomato11 (talk) 17:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you have a copy you do not have access to a deleted page. I could restore the page to your userspace, which will lose the page history (may not be important to you anyway) but has the advantage of giving you all the time in the world, or I could restore it in place and you would have to place an {{hangon}} tag and an {{underconstruction}} tag on it immediately else another admin might possibly delete it again. The other one is to work from your copy (if you have it) and recreate the page from start. Your choice. -- Alexf42 17:53, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alex that would be great if you could restore it on my user space. Thank you. I will make all the necessary changes from there. What should I do once I am done revising the page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomato11 (talkcontribs) 19:00, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article was restored at User:Tomato11/Sound_of_Urchin. Work on it in your user space to make it comply with WP:BAND. Once done, you can create a new page for it in mainspace and copy/paste the source of your article from your userspace. Once finished, if you want that temp page removed, just place a {{db-u1}} tag in it and an admin will take care of it. Note: I saw you had added a link to MySpace. Please remove it as social networks are not acceptable references under WP:EL and WP:RS. Good luck. -- Alexf42 19:13, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alex, I have read the WP:BAND and found that Sound of Urchin meet a few of the criteria listed, but i have a question in regards to providing reliable sources... what is the best way to show the reliable sources? should these be footnoted "references"? or links to external websites? im not sure i fully understand how to show these reliable sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomato11 (talkcontribs) 15:36, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Best would be inline citations. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Citation templates for details. Also please remember to sign your posts in Talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks. -- Alexf42 15:49, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE: I should have said that footnote references (<ref>link here</ref>) would also be fine. -- Alexf42 16:55, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thanks!Tomato11 (talk) 16:32, 26 August 2008 (UTC) Ok, so I added the references and revised the page so it will comply with the WP:BAND at User:Tomato11/Sound_of_Urchin. Is there any way you can take a look at it there and let me know if i am on the right track? FYI, I removed the history for the time being so i can focus on getting the main info correct. Thanks.Tomato11 (talk) 18:28, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a subject expert, far from my field but it looks much better. I made the references look a little better than just numbers. I also saw you used HTML tables. Although they are not wrong, it is generally better to use Wiki tables. You do not have to change them but it's good to understand the wiki syntax. -- Alexf42 21:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article deleted.

Hello, My question is on article wiki "Apollo Braun". The article was posted about a man who is in the news, who has interviewed Ehud Olmert (The Israel Prime Minister) when he was the major of Jerusalem. A lot of people have asked about him, and I thought about creating a page about him. However, I am new to Wikipedia and I do not fully know how to use all of the tools, so I am slow at it, and I noticed that it did not show or pop on search engines, so people could not come and check the site.

Could it be possible for the article to be opened again? I am trying to get the article up and running, and I guess other people will want to also add their own information to the page. What can I do to open it again?

Moreandmore123 (talk) 04:44, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The article was deleted - as it says in the notice the editor who tagged it for deletion posted in your page - for not asserting notability under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion: it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. -- Alexf42 10:18, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

why so serious?

Sir, were you born without a sense of humor. Are you aware that no sane teacher actually allows their student to use this website as any academic resource because, frankly, half of the material is misspelled and many other errors. My humorous editing of the article Uranus could not have possibly offended anyone but you. Anus is not a cussword, and to call a term that is commonly used in human anatomy classes vandalism simply because i was discussing my anus is preposterous. Now I have a request that will encourage me to forget your grievance against me. Please give me advice on how to post a page about my local town hero Adam Jacobs, even though no scholarly sources have yet currently been written. Then, I can promise you that any supposed vandalism will cease. Signed, The Joker :D P.S. (Why so serious?):) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jok3r09 (talkcontribs) 17:23, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not what you are using it for. If you want to create an article read Your First Article and about notability. If your hero is notable, then go ahead, else it will be removed. As per your promise, I can also promise that Wikipedia's policies are always in effect and if you vandalize you will be blocked. We prefer you help us writing a better encyclopedia. If you can't do that then please don't contribute. Thanks for asking. -- Alexf42 17:30, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Article

Comment from User: Kai Tatsu

Hello. Why did you delete an article I started? I hadn't finished it at all, and I added the tag at the top saying it wasn't finished. You deleted it, however. It was an article about the Jedi Religion. Please let me know why you have deleted this article. Thanks, Kai Tatsu, Posted: 14.47, 30th August 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kai Tatsu (talkcontribs) 13:47, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As the notice clearly said, it was unreferenced, notability was not asserted and it sounded very much like a case of WP:MADEUP. If you wanted to explain why the article is encyclopedic, you think should not be deleted, and delay its deletion for review you should have placed a {{hangon}} tag on it and immediately explain the reasons for it in the article's Talk page. -- Alexf42 17:06, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, but you have just largely insulted my religion! You're saying it's made up! It is a known fact Jediism is a religion. Two churches exist already, and it has been accepted by the Universal Life Church. It even says so here in Wikipedia! Check here:jediism. Also, you can look at the Jedi Sanctuary! www.jedisanctuary.org I did not reference anything because there were no books or websites to reference! I hadn't entered any information I learned from websites or books. I was well prepared to enter any website/book I used, if I used it. - Posted 21.38, 30th August 2008.

The article you pointed to is documented/referenced. As per your lack of references, "there were no books or websites to reference" (your words), you have to read the pages on verifiability and especially the section on burden of evidence. Also, I did not say you made it up, I said it sounds like it. -- Alexf42 21:17, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so you are saying I made up a religion, which is unknown to the world? Alright then, ask the half a million people who belong to this religion if I made it up and it is unkown. Please, make sure you have suitable knowledge on a topic before deleting a page about it. Especially if a page (or pages) already exist reffering to it. Jediism might not be as large or old as a religion such as Christianity, but it still exists, and is still known to the world. If you think i made it up, you should check out the Spaghetti Monster: Flying Spaghetti Monster. That's definately made up! Maybe you'd like to delete that aswell? - Posted 00.36, 31st August 2008 (GMT)

Of course not! Not only it is well referenced but also as real as any other church. You do not seem to understand how Wikipedia works. It is not facts we look for but verifiable facts. As said before, you did not assert notability. The article was marked for deletion under the CSD process. An admin (myself in this case) proceed with the deletion as marked. If you do not agree with it, you can always go for deletion review. Thanks. -- Alexf42 23:52, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[Update]: I see the article was recreated. Good luck to you. -- Alexf42 23:55, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Lzip

Hello Alex. I am Antonio Diaz, the author of several Free Software programs like Ocrad or Ddrescue. Some days ago I finished the first version of a lossless data compression program named Lzip. Before announcing it, I searched Wikipedia and I saw an article of the same name dedicated to an April fool's day joke.

I wrote to the author of the joke (talk) and, as he didn't respond, I spent the whole Sunday changing the article to describe the real tool. It is not my intention to become a Wikipedia editor, but I don't want my tool to be identified with a hoax, you know.

Now that you know the truth, could you please restore the Lzip article? Thanks. Ant diaz 10:21, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Antonio. If that is indeed the case, you would have to provide reliable third party sources to prove it. Furthermore, you wrote "Diaz made the first public release of lzip, version 0.1, in August 2008." This has two problems, one a conflict of interest, and two, it shows (beta?) software, hardly encyclopedic material. Remember WP is an encyclopedia, not an advertising medium. -- Alexf42 12:05, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree Lzip is not (yet) encyclopedic material, but this don't give you the right to insult me by stating in the deletion page that Lzip is a hoax. Lzip is a new project and I can't provide the sources you ask, but you can see herethat it is not a hoax. So, please change the cause of deletion of Lzip to something not derogatory to my project. Ant diaz 12:04, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

It is not an insult but a statement of what it looked like at the time of deletion, given the state of the article, and the history of it (already marked as a hoax before). As I said above, without reliable sources it does not look like it belongs in Wikipedia yet. -- Alexf42 12:10, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

195.224.118.82 block.

Re the 31 hour block, this is a vandalism only account - all edits since 2008-08-05 has been BLP libel vandalism. 31 hours is not going to help. -- Jeandré, 2008-09-01t12:41z

Unfortunately there is no "vandalism only" IP account as there is with named (password access) accounts, as IP's could be used by anyone. If they start again, they will be blocked for longer times. -- Alexf42 12:46, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Back to vandalising again (all edits made from IP have been vandalism). Editing non-notable BLPs so that it goes undetected. -- Jeandré, 2008-09-17t14:29z

deleted "Dendura"

Hey Alex, it seems you have deleted my 1st article with Wiki for the following reason.

A7 (group): Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a group/company/etc.: Doesn't indicate notability under WP:MUSIC)

I don't understand this, as I have made this article on a band that has had its music featured in a movies, and on TV. As this is my 1st article, can you please help me know what is needed to restore my article if this isn't a mistake.

Thanks in advance, Cobra Blade (talk) 23:25, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As the reason for deletion said, it did not assert notability under WP:MUSIC. The only references it had (none inline) were two external references, pointing to myspace (not a reliable source) and the band's website, also not an acceptable reference. Read the indicated page and it will tell you what is needed. Remember Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a catalog or list. That means that it has to meet notability criteria to pass muster. -- Alexf42 23:27, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I need better references indicating what has been said? Would any of following sites be any good? http://www.rockbandlounge.com/local-news.asp?nid=335 , http://cdbaby.com/cd/dendura , http://www.westmichiganmusic.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=585 . They all mention their involvement in films and TV. Cobra Blade (talk) 00:12, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an expert in music (not my field) but I think those might be OK. -- Alexf42 00:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking the time to explain that to me. Seeing as this is the 1st time I have been through this process, my only other question is how do I add these references to the currently deleted article to make it worthy of undeletion? Cobra Blade (talk) 00:32, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the article. You must act fast (this message is copied to your Talk page), before another editor questions and tags for deletion. Good luck. -- Alexf42 01:17, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly I want to thank you for all of your time I have already taken. With that being said I hope taking a look the Dendura article once again won't be too much of a bother, as jimfbleak said I should get back to you regarding the removal of the notability tag if you see it fit to do so. Fuck

Edit to page F*** not vandalism, just nomination - wanted to nominate this page fordeletion due to offensiveness - only reason i blanked it at the same time was to preemptively remove the offensive pages it linked to, also ,any idea why I am unable to edit the main page on that word? says view source instead of edit. Please understand that Wikipedia is not censored. If you dislike seeing pages with names as Fuck (disambiguation) which you tried to remove, then don't read them. If the word bothers you, then Wikipedia may not be for you. Blanking of Wikipedia articles or portions of it without a valid reason explained in the article's Talk page is considered vandalism and will lead to a block. -- Alexf42 00:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please take another look at this page that you deleted. Although it might have been a bit spammy, it wasn't eligible for a G11 which requires that the article in question be "fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic". The article had plenty of valid NPOV information regarding what is now somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. I'm really not interested in going through the tedious DRV process. Please undelete it, I promise to do some work on it, or at the very least userfy it. Thanks, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 14:59, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also noticed that the user was never notified of the pending speedy. I have no idea if another tagged it for deletion of if you just deleted it, but in any case, the user should have been notified and given a chance to fix it. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 15:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Restored as per your request. I was not the tagger, just the admin on duty at time of deletion. I still see it as an ad for WaMu and don't think notability has been properly asserted. No guarantees that another admin won't delete as it stands now. Good luck. -- Alexf42 15:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was an advertisement for a non-notable advertisement. If and when it becomes notable, then and only then should it have an article. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would see no objection to restoring it to the original author's userspace, of course. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Orange: What you did was inexcusable edit-warring, behavior that is totally unbecoming of an administrator. If there's no general consensus that that article was speedy-eligible the article must go through an afd. Please restore. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 15:30, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Slow down Brew. I do not agree with your statement. OrangeMike has every right to delete in his opinion, as I did, as we both found the article speediable as it stood at the time of deletions. Both of us also showed willingness to restore it as per your request so please be civil. Honey catches more flies than vinegar. Always. -- Alexf42 15:35, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, maybe I was a bit too itchy. But please restore it to my userspace. The article's creator is a newbie, who is quite unfamiliar with the process here. I'll let him/her know that it can be worked on my userspace. Thanks, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 15:42, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I just left a note at OrangeMike's who's the one to restore at his discretion. -- Alexf42 15:47, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick notice, (Important!)

You deleted my article on Jim Wood while I was in the middle of actually writing his bio which detailed how he was important. It is still not finished as I am reseraching it and information is hard to come by, or at least, hard to sort through. He is the current State Auditor of Arkansas, has many news reports, a VoteSmart Page, and was reelected with half a million votes. He is also a former State Senator and State Representative. I think that he meets the Notability requirements. Sorry for not having answered earlier. Somehow I forgot at the time and did not come around to it. The article was deleted because it failed to assert notability. It had no references other than a link to myspace, a non-acceptable source. In order to understand what's required please see WP:MUSIC. As the who deleted this article, could you please let us know which of the two notable people by that name was intended? Was it the 14th century one who is linked from Dafydd Gam, or was it the 9th century one who may be the same as Hywel ap Rhodri Molwynog. The 9th century person appears in the Dictionary of National Biography as "Howel Vychan". The boilerplate in the notice to the contributor is not helpful. Eclecticology (talk) 03:25, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted way back on March 25, 2008. It did not assert notability as it had no references or even external links at all the whole text was:
"Hywel Fychan Ap Hywel (born 1304 in Of Parc Letis, Lngtwgdyfrynwysg, Monmouthshire, England) was ?. He married Alice Verch Llewelyn and he had 6 children:
Llywelyn Ap Hywel, Dafydd Ap Hywel, Ieuan Ap Hywel, Elsbeth Verch Hywel, Gwilym Ap Hywel andLleucu Verch Hywel.
Hywel Fychan ap Einion Sais ap Rhys ap Hywel ap Nest ferch Grufydd."
(the text was underlined in the original article as shown). Hope this helps you. Cheers. -- Alexf42 11:31, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This is clearly the 14th century chap, but it's the 9th century one that interests me at the moment. The above, which should be easily verifiable, seems entirely genealogical. Hywel Fychan (disambiguation) should take care of this. Eclecticology (talk) 18:03, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yesterday, you deleted Janet Beed under A7. I think it asserts notability because she was a leader in many hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area. Not just one, but many. Do you mind viewing what you deleted? Thanks. Pie is good (Apple is the best) 17:37, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I looked again. It says: "she was Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at Toronto General Hospital ... she likes to hike, swim and golf". There are countless business people, CEOs, Vice-Presidents and high executives of multitudes of companies, big and small all over. That post alone does not qualify her to be notable. I did not see anything that qualifies under WP:PERSON, though I could be wrong of course. -- Alexf42 18:54, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sinolinkconsulting

hallo, We, in name of sinolinkconsulting, recently created an article about "invest in China" on wikipedia, but due to unclear copyright problem this article has been deleted. With this email we want to explain that we own the copyright of century dragon as well. we have also used one email adress of century dragon to send a email at permissions-en@wikimedia.org. we donot know what we should do further to get that page back. thanks

There are several problems here. Besides the copyright issue, for which the article was deleted, you have to remember this is an encyclopedia. "Invest in China" does not look like an encyclopedic article. Your account also has username issues and possible conflicts of interest. Please read BFAQ and the pages indicated. Lastly, please remember to add new entries in Talk pages always at the bottom and sign your entries by adding four tildes (~~~~). Thanks. -- Alexf42 11:38, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Article, InsWeb

Hello Alexf. On Saturday, Sept. 6th, you deleted my entry about the publicly traded company InsWeb (NASDAQ: INSW) because you thought it was blatant advertising. Could you please provide an explanation as to why a brief history of a company, a picture of a corporate building, and a brief explanation of what the company does, is considered advertising? The entry for esurance is very similar; it has a simple description of what the company does, where it is located, its history, etc. and the only references are about its mascot. Thank you in advance for your explanation. Inszo95 (talk) 15:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I checked the other page you mentioned and see the similarities. Even though other companies pages should not count or have bearing, I see your point and reconsidered. The article has been restored and I placed a {{hangon}} tag for you, This will delay the deletion. It is up to you to fix the article. It does read like advertisement. For starters, you should get rid of all the unsourced company praise that is there (at the time of this writing). Good luck. -- Alexf42 16:02, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elton Yiying Chen

I attempted to create a page about a fellow student of mine called Elton Yiying Chen recently. However, you deleted it before I could finish. You see, our school (Albany High School, California) is doing a project for 11th graders in which we write short biographies about our classmates. However, my friend Elton is very busy man. Despite being who many would call a nerd, he is actually quite popular at our school, so many people are interested in finding out more about him. He doesn't have time to answer everyone's questions, so I decided to help out my classmates by creating a wikipedia page about him. A few days ago, I received permisson from our teacher to let me create this page, which he would later inspect to check if there were any jokes about him. This would greatly benefit many of the students here so please reconsider the article. This project is due at the end of our school quarter (October 31, 2008), so it only needs to be up until then.

PS - He was actually born in a Rancid concert, so please don't take that as a joke. Also, the part about "playing oral" actually was a joke. I apologize for that, I was going to delete in a few minutes. By the way, he is isn't the son of Chen Kenichi. I just tried to add that in to make it seem as though he had more signifigance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drk woo (talkcontribs) 01:36, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments and explanation. I'll remind you, and please tell your teacher, that Wikipedia is a serious encyclopedia, and every article has to be about a notable subject. Your fiend Elton may be a very busy man but possibly not encyclopedic material (few of us are). -- Alexf42 01:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ICAdmin

Hmm ... although it's pretty clear that he's not getting the point (I'll try to explain it to him to), perhaps we can initiate a username RFC just so he gets it (I can't imagine the result being anything other than what it would otherwise be). Deleted Page

From Osims (talk) 20:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC) : You deleted my page ("Oliver Sims"), and I wondered why. The reason code you gave was "db|nn-autobio)". I checked in "speedy delete" but could not find a match for these codes.[reply]

I wonder if you could tell me why you deleted the page, since various other authors etc. have a very similar page. In addition, I am already referred to from at least two existing pages.

I'd like to understand how I can change things so that my page will be acceptable, given that other people with similar background to mine have their pages.

Thank you.

It means autobiography. Other authors may have similar pages, I don't know, and they may or may not be wrong, but it is not an acceptable reason for inclusion. If you are notable it is much better and more acceptable if somebody writes something and documents it properly asserting notability. -- Alexf42 21:52, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bojan Krkic

Hi alex i'm sorry for my headines in editing Bojan Krkic's page but i think that is should be written that he is Spanish-Serbian footballer, because his father is from Serbia so it is not correct to say that he is just Spanish.

I do not agree. Unless he is a Serbian citizen (holds a Serbian passport) and you can show it, (I don't know, he may be), the father is Serbian, not him. He was born in Spain, lives in Spain, and plays for Spain. Would you call Messi Italian/Argentine? Why would that be important? It is not like the case of Marcos Senna where he does have two nationalities. Here it does not seem to be the same case. -- Alexf42 21:58, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK! It is not important, but if your father is (for example) born in France and your all family from father's side is from France then you have France descent. You don't need to be French but you definitely have French descent. I repeat it is not important but I think that for Krkic you can say that he is Spanish whith Serbian descent, only like this is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matijaa007 (talkcontribs) 23:22, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CWMania

I'm not too keen on renaming him, especially since it sounds like he might return to SPA ways. I'd say if he wants the new name, he should create it instead, as long as you didn't disable his account creation. If he does create the account, you need to tell him to be contributive. I'm a little unsure about this, so I think a second opinion from another crat might be good. bibliomaniac15 17:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made sure Autoblock was disabled (undid the block and reblocked then I found it wasn't necessary :( as autoblock was already clear on the first). I emailed him back and explained the issues of COI and NPOV, then suggested he creates a new account. Thanks. I just realized you are a fairly new 'crat (didn't know) so Congrats on that! -- Alexf42 22:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The classical 'why do you delete my article?'

Yeah, why? My article is In Harmonia Progressio and you deleted it with no explanation. I'd be glad to hear any.In Harmonia Progressio! (talk) 11:27, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As it says in the deletion comment (yes, it did have an explanation), because the article was a redirect to a non-valid target (CSD#R1). Looking back, the original article was changed to a redirect in August, as it does not make much sense to have an article on a school's motto (besides issues of notability). The redirect should have pointed to the school I guess, instead it was an R1 case. -- Alexf42 11:46, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you, but I want your opinion in this case because I don't know where will I find answer. We have the article Dominus illuminatio mea, Fluctuat nec mergitur, etc. Oxford is an university, so does Institut Teknologi Bandung. It is not a high school, but an institute; a university. Please give your explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adri K. (talkcontribs) 11:57, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said above, the article in the current form was an invalid redirect. I restored the original article, which is extremely short and unreferenced, but may be salvageable. Please work on it before another editor tags it for deletion. Good luck. -- Alexf42 12:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll try to improve it, but I can't do it quickly because I have another work to do in real life. Thanks anyway! In Harmonia Progressio! (talk) 11:32, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

I declined the speedy deletion of Karan Singh Grover as notability was clearly asserted (major role in a popular Indian soap opera and host of a reality TV series), but I have cleaned up the article and added some references. Please also note it is considered courteous to inform the creator of an article (User:Lizcook) that you have nominated the article for deletion (speedy or otherwise), you do not appear to have done so in this case. --Canley (talk) 12:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct. Forgot while doing two things at the same time. Thanks for the info. -- Alexf42 17:43, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alexf. You recently blocked User:Iamtiredofliberals, a user I tagged as having an unsuitable username. I thank you for stepping in and blocking the user however I believe he or she may have returned. User:IraqInvasionftw2003 posted at User talk:Iamtiredofliberals stating that it was an alternate account of Iamtiredofliberals, "Iraq Invasion"'s userpage is the same as that of Iamtiredofliberals and I have little doubt that this is a ploy to evade the block. Hope you don't mind me bringing this to you. AreaControl (talk) 18:21, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all. I knew about the new account and it is indeed the same person. His explanation for the "liberals" name was plausible but I still ruled it as a username violation. The new name, even though strange, is not IMO a blatant violation so I could not complain. Thanks. -- Alexf42 18:28, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks! I just remembered reading a policy somewhere that users weren't allowed two accounts for the same person and wondered if that applied here. Thanks for the help here though and I'll be sure to brush up on my policies! :) AreaControl (talk) 18:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct on the policy. Here it is not two accounts, as one is indef. It is the same case as when we allow a username violator to change to a new name, or just create a new account instead. This is not done for blatant vandals who are blocked for account creation too. HTH. -- Alexf42 18:35, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see. Thank you AreaControl (talk) 18:37, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alexf,

I am one of the poor saps that have been deleted repeatedly, and I was not sure how to change my page in accordance with wikipedia's needs, so I kept adding it agian so that those that could help me would have a refernce point.

I assure I had the best intentions in doing this, I was not trying to be beligerant:)

I have just been informed that the site that I have been trying to have published EliteAnswers.com does not have apporopriate references. However the references that I have are media outlets for the organization I am trying to create a page for. It is unlikely that an academic journal will have written about the company. Of the references that are there, some are thrid party, and are quite reputable sources. Therefore I am not sure what the concern is and I need some help with that.

What other ways do I have to modify the article in order to get it approved for submission?

I really appreaciate you taking the time, and once again I apologize for the appearance that came across through my edits.Yitzhaac Pesach (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 19:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

It is rather simple. Just follow the guidelines and policies. For websites, the appropriate guidelines are at: Wikipedia:Notability (web). See also our pages detailing notability, verifiability and reliable sources. These will tell you what you need to know in order for an article to be acceptable to the encyclopedia. Good luck. -- Alexf42 19:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your helpYitzhaac Pesach (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 15:06, 17 September 2008 (UTC). I read up on web notability, and the page seems to conform with those requirements. Which parts are not valid? All the sources are thrid party entities that have nopthing to do with organization, or are awards given to the company. Do you see it in another way?Yitzhaac Pesach (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 15:15, 17 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for just tagging Ron Gorchov (db-bio) instead of deleting it immediately, as I'm sure many admins would have done. This gave me the opportunity to discover the article, clean it up a bit, and establish notability. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:43, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, some would. I wasn't sure on notability and thought it best to allow other editors (and admins) to take a look and decide, and to post a note on the creator's page to inform of the CSD. -- Alexf42 22:47, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

questions re. duplicate topic headings and saving unfinished content

Hello Alexf

I see that you flagged my page on Ron Gorchov for two reasons. I am new to Wikipedia and I appreciate your feedback. I have two questions that perhaps you can help me answer when you have a moment.

First: the reason I made duplicate topic headings ("Ron gorchov" and "Ron Gorchov") is because I couldn't figure out how to capitalize the 'G' in Gorchov on the first page (it automatically showed up as "gorchov"), so I created a second with the capital 'G.' Now that the second page exists, do you know how I go about deleting the first page, since obviously there is no need for two pages on the same topic and I would prefer to have both the first and last name capitalized?

Second: is there a way to save content while I'm working on it but before I post it? I explored the "Sandbox" option but perhaps I didn't understand it correctly. Do you recommend that I take down the page altogether and save the content in another place while I work on it? How do I do that?

Again, I'm new and still slogging through the protocol here. Any help you can give is appreciated.

Best JBirdBK (talk) 22:47, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When an article is wrongly named, you can use the move command to rename it, instead of creating a new one. I had already deleted the page as duplicate. Admins can delete pages, editors cannot. What you can do if you want your page deleted is to blank the page and put a {{db-author}} tag on it. This will signal admins to delete it. On your second question, you can create a subpage on your user space by adding a slash and the new page name to your userpage's URL (follow the link for instructions). There you can work on it, make it look nice, establish notability and then copy to a new article when ready. When you want that page deleted, just place a {{db-u1}} on it to signal admins for deletion. Simple. -- Alexf42 22:57, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ward Jarret

This is Nick Price, executive producer for Troubadour Records. We are a small record company based in Nashville. I have a new artist who we are excited to be launching in a month on our label, and we are launching his website in three weeks, and thought that Wikipedia is another great place we could put some history about him on.

The artist's name is "Ward Jarret", also Ward Jarret Hilger.

If you could return my message as soon as possible. Thank you for your time.
