How to handle redirect pages[edit]

Use template {{no redirect|SEARCHNAME}} to create a link (not a wikilink) to the page (redirect page), which takes the form SEARCHNAME. Use the link just like any wikilink. Alternatively, see WP:EDRED.

To change a redirect, go to the redirect page and just click the edit button.

Example: First-day Sabbatarianism

Purge the Page from the Browser Buffer[edit]

Useful Templates[edit]

  • {{tlx}}: Creates display text and a wikilink for a template, as demonstrated.
  • {{u|Evensteven}}: Creates display text and a wikilink where placed - Evensteven - plus a notification to the user that s/he has been mentioned, and where.
  • {{ping|Evensteven}}: Creates display text and a wikilink where placed - @Evensteven: - plus a notification to the user that s/he has been mentioned, and where. Generally used in place of whisperback or talkback.
  • {{cot}} and {{cob}}: "Collapse top" and "collapse bottom", bridges a text segment that can be collapsed into a thin rectangular box that has a title and an open/close toggle.
  • {{WikibreakSwitch|<status>}}: Announce on the page any of the common wikibreak types; if not on break, announce use of the template to do so. Some common status values:

Hink-Pink Game[edit]

  • The hink-pink game is for two or more people, of (at least somewhat) matched abilities, that can be targeted at a level suitable for any age. Each person in turn becomes "the poser" who poses a riddle to the rest ("the guessers"). The riddle is a short (one-or-a-few-word) clue to the answer. It is a clue, not a definition, and need not be absolutely precise, but it should lead naturally to the answer (in the opinion of the guessers). The winner is the one who guesses the answer correctly (in full), or if no one guesses before all give up, the poser wins. Credit for a win is by mutual agreement.
  • Each guesser gets only one guess in each round, and if not successful, must remain silent and non-signaling throughout the remainder of the round, except by common consent.
  • The answer is in two rhyming parts, and may be one of three types, identified by the poser when announcing the riddle:
    • A "hink-pink": two rhymed words, or even one word of two rhyming syllables.
      • Example: The poser introduces, "a hink-pink for a partial liquid measure". Now a Canadian might be prompted to think of "a U.S. gallon", which matches the clue (compared to an Imperial gallon), but s/he realizes it has no rhyme, no single syllable in each part, no good. A Britisher might be playing in a pub and think "half pint", which scores on syllables, but is found missing on both the rhyme and the draught. An American might be thinking instead of the barkeep, about whom he's long had suspicions of a light touch, and come up with "short snort". And if I had been the poser, that would be a win for the guesser.
      • Example: "a hink-pink for doorbell". Got nothing? After a while, you'll see your way faster to "gong bong".
    • A "hinky-pinky": two rhyming parts (as always), each part of two syllables, formed of single words or two-word phrases or a mix. (It's not good form to move from one part to the other in the middle of a word, though. Keep the separations direct.)
      • Example: The poser introduces, "a hinky-pinky for diminutive". If one word works for the clue, it's better than more words. Short clues are always good, but they must give enough to guess from. And if the inevitable answer comes back "itsy bitsy", that's a win, if I'm the poser. What a disappointment to the one who came up with "teeny weeny", for he must have been thinking of something else! Credits all 'round for a good try. But still no cigar; the guess must match what the poser was thinking of.
      • Example: "a hinky-pinky for a dislocated finger". There can only be one answer: yes, a hinky pinky.
    • A "hinkity-pinkity": two rhyming parts, each in three or more syllables, formed of single words or phrases or a mix. Single words are commonest and most often sought, but not required, and not always best.
      • Example: The poser announces, "a hinkity-pinkity for polling". Another one-word clue. Is it a noun, or a verb form? The poser does not say, and does not have to. Pick one, choose something, make a guess, sink or swim. It can be cutthroat. The winner guesses "opinion dominion", whose only flaw as an answer lies in being somewhat staid. The poser really has the toughest role.
      • Example: "a hinkity-pinkity for the Declaration of Independence". Now you're getting into fancy territory with "revolution elocution".
      • Example: "a hinkity-pinkity for a fine French cross-dresser". Eventually, every game gets a somewhat tortured but ultimately obvious entry. What do you think of "Cannes' best white transvestite"?
      • Example: "a hinkity-pinkity for a diet book". Less obtuse, that's nice. But easier. Still, not necessarily transparent: "rotundity profundity".
  • There is no scoring, unless it is by general acclamation, for cleverness, or wittiness, or sheer entertainment value.
