Wikiproject Judaism vs. Jewish history

Hi Bohemian Baltimore. Regarding this edit, articles like Hebrew Emigrant Aid Society better fit Wikiproject Jewish history (vs. something like amidah, which would fit Wikipedia Judaism). Jayjg (talk) 14:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves reversed

[edit]

I've reversed two undiscussed, controversial page moves you performed today at Queer studies and Queer anarchism. Please see WP:BEFOREMOVING, and discuss any such moves on the Talk page of the respective articles first, before attempting such a change. In particular, these two articles are in an inherently controversial topic area of the encyclopedia that are under ArbCom discretionary sanctions. Even if they weren't, scholarly references to the original title exceeded those to your choice of title by ten times and one hundred times, respectively. So even if not under D/s, COMMONNAME would apply. You are a very experienced editor, and I'm at a loss to understand how you imagined these could go through undiscussed.

If you wish to propose a move of either or both of these articles, you can do so by following the guidelines at WP:RM#CM. And please follow the guidelines, and do your due diligence before performing any additional page moves. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 06:58, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mathglot, My apologies. I'm afraid that I was under some confusion when I moved those pages and I'm going to chalk it up to sleep deprivation. I regret the mistake and have added splitting/renaming proposals to the pages. Thanks for correcting me. Best, Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 02:55, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That all looks good, now. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 04:09, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

This is a standard notice about editing gender-related articles. The notice informs you about ArbCom rules governing the behavior of editors who edit in certain controversial areas, like gender, that you need to know about. Please read it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:47, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in (a) GamerGate, (b) any gender-related dispute or controversy, (c) people associated with (a) or (b), all broadly construed. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. Mathglot (talk) 09:47, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anarchism

[edit]

Hi Bohemian Baltimore,

I saw your work on articles related to anarchism and wanted to say hello, as I work in the topic area too. If you haven't already, you might want to watch our noticeboard for Wikipedia's coverage of anarchism, which is a great place to ask questions, collaborate, discuss style/structure precedent, and stay informed about content related to anarchism. Take a look for yourself!

And if you're looking for other juicy places to edit, consider expanding a stub, adopting a cleanup category, or participating in one of our current formal discussions.

Feel free to say hi on my talk page and let me know if these links were helpful (or at least interesting). Hope to see you around. czar 03:43, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category renames on gay or LGBT topics

[edit]

Hello, Bohemian Baltimore, I noticed a bunch of category renames at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 October 31 and */November 3. As in the case of some article renames you were involved with earlier (see Talk section above), it seems to me like a lot of the category renames you proposed were ill-conceived, with a lack of due diligence performed ahead of the proposals. In addition, there was a failure to carry out the recommendations at WP:CFD about how to propose a rename, especially regarding notification of interested editors and projects, which was ignored in every case, except for the one I called out to you in this discussion. As a result, these rename proposals are being closed with votes as small as 2-1 in some cases, without contributions from interested or knowledgeable parties.

As far as I can tell, the category renames seem to be based on your own impressions of the logic of English and what these expressions seem like they ought to mean, rather than the way they are actually used. Now, I care very little about categories in general, which is why I didn't bother responding to most of your proposals, or insisting that Projects be notified for the other cases; and I don't much care if the categories are renamed to the wrong term. Since most of your category rename proposals predated the notice I placed above concerning your article page moves, I don't consider this in any sense a repeat, so you're still good. However, I hope that going forward, before placing category rename proposals, or article moves, you will read the Project page that explains how to do them and follow the guidelines, including whatever BEFORE or due diligence is recommended; including, but not limited to, appropriate notification of editors and projects for each one. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 10:01, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:Mathglot What, exactly, have I failed to do since we talked last? I notified the LGBT and Film WikiProjects. I just pinged you in a comment about this issue, which you may or may not have seen before. Which editors should I have alerted? Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 10:56, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since we talked last, you haven't failed to do anything, hence my "You're still good," above. The failures to notify came before we talked last, so no foul, since you were not yet aware of appropriate notification yet. But, based on this comment, you now know about appropriate notification, so going forward, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 21:03, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Mathglot. And seeing a bunch of moves today on my watchlist because of Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 October 27#Category:Queer studies? That move needs to go to move review. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 13:06, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was clearly a wrong result, based on an uninformed proposal, and a lack of commentary by anyone who actually understands the topic, due to the fact that nobody relevant to the topic was appropriately notified. If I cared enough about categories being renamed incorrectly, I would have proposed a review myself. But I don’t. It’s just a poorly done category move, based on pure, evidence-free opinion, that’s all. Most readers of the encyclopedia won’t ever notice, or care. Mathglot (talk) 01:22, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Mathglot and @User talk:Flyer22 Reborn, I'm okay with a move review if that is what you both desire. I'm pinging @User:MER-C, since he/she was the closer. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 06:03, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As I said previously, I really don't care; a review would be a waste of time, imho. I would answer questions if pinged, otherwise would not participate. As for MER-C, they did a standard close based on the information in front of them, and did nothing wrong. Mathglot (talk) 06:20, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Amended. If it is desired by Flyer22 Reborn, I am okay with a move review per his/her suggestion. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 06:25, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Tejc has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only listed person with this name, Jeroným Tejc, does not have an article, making this an invalid SIA. If an article on him is created, please redirect this page to it.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Haredi Rabbi Cats

[edit]

Hi, I'm a little concerned about this category and the placement of rabbis who lived hundreds of years ago into this category. The term "Haredi" as used daily is fairly new and most of the rabbis should be placed under Orthodox. I don't see a need for a sub cat of Haredi when it's a modern term and also is unnecessary. Did Frank C. Bocek even exist?

[edit]

So I know you've expressed an interest in the Frank C Bocek Park and fleshing it out to a full article. I started doing some preliminary digging into this, and I've come away baffled. Presumably Mr. Bocek was a real personage, but he has proven elusive. "City Councilman Frank C. Bocek" is alluded to in this Aug 1946 writeup in the Sun, without the councilmanic district being listed. There is one more reference to that name in 1947, a passing mention of a campaign contribution. Then there's a 50 year gap in the Sun, when suddenly it's talking about the park. The park, incidentally, was being called "Bocek Playground" as early as 1965, though I'm still trying to find a writeup of its actual dedication.

Now, there also is mention of Frank J. Bocek who was floated as successor to the Second district seat for James Klima on his death in 1944, got the support of Curran and apparently was on the council by July of that year. But here's where it gets odd. Neither Frank C. Bocek, Frank J. Bocek, nor indeed any Bocek at all are listed as members of the city council for the second or any other district ever. Now, I'm guessing the real answer here is that Bocek didn't get listed because he filled a vacancy, and did not stand for reelection in 1947, indeed dying later that month. But his son was Frank J. Bocek Jr., not C. Who is this C. Bocek? Alternate Czech transliteration? A typo that somehow achieved official status? Any idea? Sauzer (talk) 19:29, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I should've kept digging before asking this. A playground was founded as Frank J. Bocek in the honor of the dead councilman in 1953. It was dedicated in 1956. Now, assuming the playground and the larger green space are the same unit, it strongly SEEMS that at some point people just flipped the J to a C. I'm still confused how that happened. Sauzer (talk) 19:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sauzer This is stupendous research! Thank you so much for digging into this. In my previous research, I wasn't able to find out who Frank C. Bocek was either. Frank is an anglicized version of the Czech name "František". There's a Frank Joseph Bocek Jr. buried at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Baltimore, a Catholic cemetery where a lot of Catholic Czechs are buried. This page on FindAGrave lists his parents as Frank Joseph Bocek and Mary J. Klima. A sibling named Charles Alphonsus Bocek is also buried there. I assume Mary J. Klima is related to James Klima. Perhaps the "C" in "Frank C" is Charles, the anglicization of Karel. Frank Sr named his son Charles, so maybe it was a family name. This is his listing in the Census. I checked Frank Sr's father, but his named was Joseph Bocek. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 05:49, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

mass recategorizing of Jewish biographies

[edit]

Hi Bohemian Baltimore, I may have missed a discussion somewhere but I noticed you are changing a lot of categories from "Nationality Jews" to "Nationality Ashkenazi Jews" or its Sephardic equivalent. I am wondering if this is a productive or provable change in a lot of cases, especially in countries where there were few Sephardic, when talking about secularized people or historical figures whose details are not well known, or in countries where the important distinction was not along those lines but also along other dimensions (subject/non-subject as in Romania, etc). I have to admit I'm not really a Wikipedia-policy knowledagble person to talk about this change in that sense but it feels a bit like over-specifying for its own sake. What do you think? Can you point me to a discussion about this? --Dan Carkner (talk) 03:51, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify my thinking a bit, I think there is a difference between identifying the person's religious sub-community at the level of their biography, and identifying it as the single national trait such as "Ukrainian Ashkenazi Jews" as somehow a more important aspect of their identity than the national-minority status of "Ukrainian Jews". Native American Tribes in Maryland

Hello! You seem to be one of the foremost editors on Native Americans in Maryland, and I wanted to see if you'd be able to give some pointers on the article Native American tribes in Maryland. I'm considering taking the article to GAN (and possibly FAC far in the future), and I'm mostly concerned about the breadth of coverage in the "History" section. I can't find any one source that nicely compiles a comprehensive history of Native Americans in the state, so if you have any knowledge or sources you'd like to share (or other pointers on the article in general) it would be very much appreciated. Hi, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is not a gripe, just a concern about the recent recategorization of the article about Catherine Brown. You recently changed her category from Cherokee people to Cherokee Nation people, however, I think we need to add something to distinguish what Cherokee Nation we are linking her, and others, to. Catherine was a part of the Cherokee Nation (1794-1907) but she was never a citizen of the Cherokee Nation which was established after the Removal. Catherine passed in 1823, a full decade and some years before the Removal and nearly a hundred years before the Cherokee Nation was officially established in Oklahoma in 1907. I think this designation is important to note. There are several biographies with this designation but, to a Cherokee, when we say Cherokee Nation, we are describing the tribe from Oklahoma. I think that is why they created separate articles. Maybe we need separate categories too. --ARoseWolf 13:41, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous IP users and several new users (Mookilla, Boricua19) have all added the exact same verbose, peacock-y, uncited promotional material that the individual already uses in all of his online bios, creating a copyright violation but also many other problems. You're welcome. As a grocery store worker at a Hy-Vee, I never have the opportunity to sit and it sometime causes intense foot pain. SL93 (talk) 15:16, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SL93 I'm very pleased, because I created the article specifically to shine light on the rights of retail workers. I was able to find that Iowa, at least at one time, had a right to sit law (Code 1939, sec. 148). This 1922 report from the U.S. Department of Labor stated: "All employers of females in any mercantile or manufacturing business or occupation shall provide and maintain suitable seats when practicable for the use of such females at or beside the counter or work bench where employed, and permit the use thereof by such employees to such extent as the work engaged in may reasonably admit of." The believe the law was first passed in 1892.
Another Labor Department document from 1944 mentions Iowa's right to sit law: "Suitable seats for female employeees...Use to be permitted when employee is not necessarily engaged in active duties of employment...Person or corporation employing women in any business." A 1970 report from the CDC mentions the law: "Section 88.4. Requires employers of females in workshops, mercantile, manufacturing or business establishments to provide suitable seats and permit their use when duties reasonably allow it." I have no idea if this law or a similar law still exists in Iowa. Most of these laws contain outdated, gendered language about "females", so I don't know how male workers fit into these laws. It would be great if Iowa law protected the right to sit! I'll let you know if I find any contemporary sources mentioning Iowa legislation regarding the right to sit. Take care. Notice

The article Redundant elevators has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

How is this even a thing? Any structure that has more than one elevator can be said to have "redundant elevators". It isn't a different type of elevator or used in a different way. This article is simply about an ordinary adjective + noun phrase.

Hey. I was just wondering, why are you pinging that list of people when making nominations like Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 February 26#Polysexuality and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 February 21#Queer categories, and not simply notifying WikiProject LGBT studies? Car Accidents

[edit]

I'm concerned hat you have been over a large number of pages performing a find and replace of "car accident" to "car crash". This is a bad idea for a two reasons;

  • You are making no effort to find out the nature of the events described in each article. Accidents happen with cars that are not crashes. For instance, in 27 Club you changed (along with every other mention) the cause of Anton Yelchin's death to "car crash". This is factually incorrect. He died in an accident involving his car that could not be described as a "crash".
  • Your find and replace is changing the text that should remain exactly as it is in the sources. For example; in quotes and headline titles in cites.

Are you going to go back over all the articles you changed in this mass change of wording and fix these? Escape Orbit (Talk) 14:03, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The same applies to your mass changing of vehicles into "drivers". You are probably correct that in many instances the vehicle was under the control of a driver, but you simply don't know this, so shouldn't be changing articles to suggest specifics that are not in the article or sources. What if the car was rolling free downhill? What if the car had been struck by another vehicle and was therefore beyond control? Would it be correct to say that it was the driver of that car who had struck the victim? What if the driver of the vehicle was completely blameless? What if the car involved in the accident was stationary? These are nuances that you have been blindly changing to a simplistic "it was the driver that killed the person" when there is nothing in the article to specify that's how it happened. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 14:24, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Escape Orbit Hello. Thank you for the corrections and suggestions. I'm happy to go back over my edits during the coming week to check for any mistakes made. Mea culpa on the 27 Club edit. What remains true is this: Wikipedia is years behind the times on language related to cars, drivers, and traffic collisions. The AP and other groups, including many government agencies, have advised caution for many years about using the term "car accident" too freely, and yet it stubbornly remains ubiquitous on Wikipedia. Using language like "drunk driving accident" or saying that "the car fled the scene of the crime" seems particularly egregious. This sort of dubious language is so common and so normalized, I've even had Wikipedia users defend the term "drunk driving accident". As if to drink, to drink until drunk, and to drive afterwards are accidents that befall someone rather than choices that person makes. I've been told that "car accident" is the "formal tone", that "crash" is a colloquialism, when it's really the exact opposite: crash or collision is generally preferred by transportation experts, and "accident" discouraged as the problematic colloquialism. I'm perplexed by at least one of your edits on the Death of David Glenn Lewis, as I'm not sure why we should say a "vehicle" flees the scene rather than a driver. A hit and run seems like a very good case where the driver should be mentioned. And yet Wikipedia is filled with references to Christine-like vehicles that seem to operate themselves and kill by their own accord. Thanks again. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 11:55, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A driver fleeing the scene often means the driver fleeing on foot, whereas
when the vehicle does the fleeing the driver's fleeing in the vehicle is implicit. Iskandar323 (talk) 14:47, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Iskandar323 "The driver fled in their vehicle." Problem solved. Phrasing sentences in a way in which the driver is "implicit" is exactly the problem. Dehumanizing language that takes away from the fact that there was an interaction between two flesh and blood human beings. It actually is important to mention the real, live, human being inside the machine. And this distancing language of saying the "car" did this, the "car" did that, there was a car "accident" serves to detract from the human dimension of traffic collisions. In the case of a pedestrian/driver collision, it is especially problematic if the pedestrian is named as a human agent but the driver is euphemistically invisibilized as a "car". It certainly contributes to the stigmatization of the pedestrian, and if you examine the demographics of pedestrian deaths and injuries, the equity dimension becomes unavoidable (in addition to the general public safety dimension). I'm surprised these conversations haven't already been hashed out. A good indication of how far Wiki is lagging behind on this subject. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 16:48, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia should reflect what the sources say. Wikipedia is not a place to campaign for a correction to the terminology used by sources in these circumstances. This is specifically the case when the sources use the vague "accident", rather than the more specific "crash". If the source chooses to be vague (perhaps for the very good reason that the exact details are unknown/unproven), then there is no rational for Wikipedia jumping to a more specific conclusion about what happened.
Iskandar323 explains exactly why "driver" is sometimes misleading, where naming the vehicle should be preferred. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 15:11, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.

North African and Middle Eastern Australians

[edit]

Hi,

You have recently made some changes that removed Australians of Jewish descent from this article (North African and Middle Eastern Australians). Can you please provide me with sources that explain how your changes are accurate to Australian definitions? I basically grabbed the statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, where they do classify Jewish Australians as being from "North Africa and the Middle East".

I know that sometimes that the USA and UK and Canada might have a different classification, so maybe you applied that. But for Australia we kind of lump them in together.

I think that this is more of a cultural differences between who Australia considers to be of Middle Eastern descent.

Basically can you please provide me with Australian sources that back up your narrowed down definition?

Indigenous cats, etc

[edit]

Thank you for all the good work you're doing sorting cats and articles. I've been coming across a number of cats and articles that need to be brought up to date with MOS:RACECAPS and "Indigenous". For instance, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:History_of_indigenous_peoples_of_North_America, among other others. Again, good work. I really appreciate it. - CorbieVreccan 22:14, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Are you mostly referring to capitalizing the word Indigenous? Are there other style recommendation issues I should be aware of? Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 00:01, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops! I missed this response at the time. Yes, I just meant capitalizing Indigenous. - CorbieVreccan 19:39, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Hello, Bohemian Baltimore,

Could you please leave a brief edit summary when you move an article or page like you do when you make an edit? It would help others understand why you think the new page title is an improvement over the previous one. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:24, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that you did include an edit summary with other page moves (now that I'm scanning through the Move log) but if you could make this a regular practice, that would be great. Liz Read! Talk! 21:27, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cherokee descent

[edit]

At Rose Bascom, you removed Category:American people of Cherokee descent, and replaced it with Category:American people who self-identify as being of Cherokee descent, a category you created today. What specifically led you to make this change at the Rose Bascom article? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:11, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are no sources indicating that she was part of any Cherokee tribe (e.g., Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band Cherokee, United Keetoowah Band). See the discussion here with Indigenous WikiProject members discussing efforts to distinguish between actual Native descendants and people who self-identify without evidence. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 11:24, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So unless there is a source supporting that the person was part of a tribe, then they only "self-identify". So Lindy Waters III and Keith Birdsong, for example, would be those who "self-identify"? What about if the person's great-grandparents were part of a tribe? Would this remove the "self-identify" label? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 17:04, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Sources permitting, I have been trying to detail the specific tribes that individuals are enrolled in. If a person isn't enrolled in the tribe but has a parent or grandparent etc who was a citizen, then that person can be listed as a descendant. I have been trying to say Muscogee Nation rather than just Muscogee, Cherokee Nation rather than just Cherokee, etc for enrolled Native Americans. There are a lot of people, usually Southerners, who have unsubstantiated or disproven family lore about Native ancestry. For those people who claim descent without any known affiliation with a tribe, we put them in the self-identify categories. There are a handful of biographic articles in the American people of Cherokee descent category that I have yet to examine. Some are people who are Native Americans who have multiple ancestry, enrolled in one tribe and with heritage from other tribes. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 19:44, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
At Jesse Jackson, the source supporting his ancestry was this book, written by Marshall Frady, a highly respected author, who wrote about Jackson: "one of his grandfathers was half Cherokee; one of his great-grandmothers...was also part Cherokee". This would certainly be considered a reliable source, so I'm not sure why you changed the category to "self-identify"? Magnolia677 (talk) 21:11, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cherokee what? Cherokee Nation? Where is Frady getting this information? Does he identify any tribal affiliation? "Cherokee" is not a tribe. You can look at the Indigenous WikiProject's style guide for further information. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 22:02, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for seeming aggressive. Your edits are totally in good faith, I just think the inclusion criteria needs some fine tuning. I'll start a discussion at the Wikiproject. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:25, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Blackfeet Tribe

[edit]

Hi Bohemian, since you focus on categories, can you tackle Category:Blackfeet Nation and Category:Blackfeet Nation people? The name of the tribe is Blackfeet Tribe of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation of Montana, which is too long for a category name, but just making up an inaccurate name for the tribe ("Blackfeet Nation") confuses things (I just fixed a bio article that incorrectly listed a citizen of the Blackfeet Tribe as being a citizen of a First Nation of Alberta due to confused names). I'm not entirely sure how one changes categories names and it appears to involve bots, but leaving a completely inaccurate name is not a good solution. Thanks for any thoughts. Yuchitown (talk) 15:17, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

@Yuchitown I created both of those categories, basing them on the name of the article. The source of the confusion seems to be that the tribe's official website, blackfeetnation.com, uses "Blackfeet Nation" but their constitution says "Blackfeet Tribe". The main article would have to be renamed, then the categories could be shifted to something like Category:Blackfeet Tribe and Category:Blackfeet Tribe people. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 23:24, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wandering in... Don't know if this will help or further complicate, but I'm also looking at a few pages.
- CorbieVreccan 20:54, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Tribal websites are usually all over the map with versions of names. Current official, legal names of tribes can always be found at the current year's Federal Register list of tribes (and tribes update their names all the time). The current official name of the tribe truly is Blackfeet Tribe of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation of Montana. [2] Yuchitown (talk) 00:49, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia

[edit]

You did not identify the source of the material in your edit. It appears to be American Jews. Copying within Wikipedia is acceptable but it must be attributed.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. However, for future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, linking to the source article and adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

While best practices are that attribution should be added to the edit summary at the time the edit is made, the linked article on best practices describes the appropriate steps to add attribution after the fact. I hope you will do so.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that need to be crossed.~~~~ S Philbrick(Talk) 12:51, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the indigenous Wikiproject is only for North America, and only applies to North American articles, not European or Asian articles.
