    Shortcuts

    Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

    After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    semi-protection. Indef-blocked user repeatedly using IPs to evade his block and add commercial messages to this article. See Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Transitguru. A recent one-week semi-protection was effective in stopping the spamming, but he waited it out and came back for more. Another option here would be a rangeblock, but it seems like the range of IP addresses available to the user is slowly growing--a longer semi-protection of this article might be the least harmful way to stop the vandalism.     semi-protect. Anonymous IP user persistently reverting this article over a long period of time against consensus through the TOR open proxy. Many of the IP's used have subsequently been banned by wikipedia for being TOR open proxy IP's or for vandalism. Integrity of the article has been completely diminished by constant reverts. 13 TOR IP's used by this user since March 1st.     Full protection. Article has been put under semi-protection by administrator Jossi on 15 March 2008 because of vandalism from SPA account Mike Babic and IP address. Old user Jesuislafete has after that reverted vandalism edits but in doing that she has reverted semi-protected tag. Seeing that mistake I have returned semi-protected tag, but it has not worked or SPA account Mike Babic has reverted so that he can edit. Maybe I am mistaking but if he has deleted semi-protection tag he need to be blocked.     Full protection. There are disagreements and an edit war between myself and other editors regarding Reagan's role in the Cold War; it has been getting pretty rough with multiple users feuding and one user editing the page without fully discussing the content.     Full protection - A contentious sentence is being edit warred over and those opting in to this sign-up list are being added and removed with no agreement as yet on how to handle this.
