Revision as of 19:56, 16 August 2008

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

semi-protect. People giving misinformation that is not confirmed by the developer. Blaze of merc (talk) 19:53, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection , Continued addition of original research regarding the recently released gameplay trailer by anonymous users..~~ [Jam][talk] 19:33, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. If the problem re-occurs, probably best to semi-protect until the release. DMacks (talk) 19:48, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks DMacks. ~~ [Jam][talk] 19:52, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection Dispute, IP vandalism.-- iMatthew T.C. 19:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.. I assume you meant semi for IP vandalism instead of dispute. PeterSymonds (talk) 19:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Persistant IP vandalism and addition of unsourced content. Asher196 (talk) 16:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected one week. EdJohnston (talk) 17:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, vandalism and unwarranted reverts by alyeska and Whitefish Mountain management72.160.51.116 (talk) 15:15, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected 2 months. There is a strange revert war going on, where an IP-hopping editor is bitterly complaining about the management of the ski resort. The edit war is too slow for 3RR to apply, and blocking the rotating IP is not worth it. (User:Alyeska, the main editor on the other side, doesn't appear to have a COI). The dispute, not always with the same participants, is running for nine months already. If anyone thinks this issue belongs at ANI, please move it there. Meanwhile, semi-protected two months. EdJohnston (talk) 16:39, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, vandalism due to Usain Bolt's world record today. One or two days should suffice.user:Everyme 15:07, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. (There is also a great deal of productive editing from IPs, so I'd hate to protect it at this point.) - Rjd0060 (talk) 18:05, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection - both user page and talkpage indefinitely; user request. D.M.N. (talk) 15:05, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. Your userpage is already semi-protected, and people may wish to use your talk page to talk to you. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why would IP's wish to contact me via my talkpage? Most IP's that come via my talkpage are to vandalise it, the amount of constructive IP's that actually efit this website is very little. I think considering I see quite a few administrators protect their own user talk and userpage, I think I should be able to request successfully the protection of my own talkpage. D.M.N. (talk) 15:11, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Banning anonymous editing from Wikipedia is a debate for another place. Please see WP:SEMI. There is very little vandalism to your talk page. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll also note that I'd have declined this also - IPs could have a legitimate need to contact any established user. - Rjd0060 (talk) 18:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi protection Vandalism, Vandalism due to his world record. One or two days should suffice..user:Everyme 14:57, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: It's on the front page and I'm seeing a lot of constructive edits from unregistered edits and newbies. It should be watched closely but I don't think the vandalism is overwhelming the constructive contributions yet. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:23, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection Vandalism.Bidgee (talk) 14:45, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected by PhilKnight. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:46, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, Having a lot of problems with anon-IPs changing the spelling of various character names from their official English ones to other spellings, despite hidden notes and clear discussion on the talk page about them..-- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 14:42, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GbT/c 17:38, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection despite attempts to discuss through talk pages and using slow reverts, multiple IP's are repeatedly reverting without cause, and replacing or removing reliably sourced data. – Zedla (talk) 20:16, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Please make new requests at the top in future, that way admins can see them. Stifle (talk) 12:04, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. GbT/c 17:39, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

• To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
• Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
• Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
• If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add Edit fully-protected to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

• Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among Edit protected, Edit template-protected, Edit extended-protected, or Edit semi-protected to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
• Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the Edit COI template should be used.
• Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
• If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
• This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

I am arguing that it is incorrect to redirect it to Bob Dylan, because it confers upon the topic "Dylanology" undue weight and undeserved legitimacy. I think it would be more appropriate to redirect it to A.J. Weberman, because it is a vanity topic of interest primarily to its author. --Leatherstocking (talk) 01:41, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotected Was protected, because of recreation, for more than a year, probably no need for that anymore. See talk page - Nabla (talk) 18:23, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Looks like a content dispute to me - no obvious vandalism. You should try discussing the matter with the user rather before asking for admin action. Papa November (talk) 15:34, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Several editors were discussing changes to the policy's wording and prototyping changes via the mechanism of WP:BRD; an admin apparently believed this constituted edit warring, and stopped the work dead in its tracks. In the past three days, only three reverts to the page have been performed, all by the same user -- though that is also a part of the BRD process.

Would anyone be willing to step forward and allow the work to resume while I discuss the matter with the protecting admin? Thanks.--Father Goose (talk) 02:30, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected Please discuss with the protecting administrator first. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 02:32, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

indefinite semi-protection Constant targets of Soccermeko (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log). We are up to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Soccermeko(11th), and four checkuser cases. Let's just protect the target. There have only been a handful of legitimate edits to these articles in a year, and those have been from registered users. Short-term protection is of no value, because there is no reason to believe that Soccermeko will ever give up.Kww (talk) 01:26, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
