NGR Massacre
Thanks very much for yours at my User talk. To answer your questions, the belligerence and the point of view (make the No Gun Ri Massacre go away) are similar, but there's a decided difference in their interests, judging from their User pages etc., and Kauffner, as I recall, was more literate than the hamhanded Weldneck. The problem, as essentially a neophyte at Wikipedia, is to know how to blow the whistle on Weldneck, now that he has stooped to outright fabrications -- by adding nonexistent words to documentary sources -- and to wholesale deletion of well-sourced facts that disturb his point of view. Any suggestions? Thanks. Charles J. Hanley 11:55, 15 October 2013 (UTC) Cjhanley (talk • contribs)

Various Japanese emperors (and apparently one modern mystery writer and one historical province)

Hi IIO. Regarding this edit: you meant it as a rhetorical question, right? Assuming you did, I really didn't want to mess it up by answering on there, but your earlier !vote implied you hadn't checked the guideline yourself so I was a little concerned. Cheers! Hijiri 88 (やや) 15:21, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

At the time I supported I hadn't checked the MOS, since I trust you to read it correctly, I have since checked and of course you did. No, my question was not rhetorical, I wanted the two users to look for themselves. But does [User:...] actually work as a "ping"? Last time I looked they hadn't come back. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:25, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. It does really annoy me when users show up once and make a flawed argument, then I demonstrate why it doesn't count, but they don't come back so it still ends with "no consensus". Hijiri 88 (やや) 15:35, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well - I've seen a different "ping" template - one that works better, but can't find it. I just notified Necrothesp on his/her talk page. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:48, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on uploading images with expired copyright

I was wondering if you could help me. I am interested in uploading an image (to wiki commons) which is an illustration from hundreds of years ago (to enrich an article). I assume any such illustrations are in the public domain, are they not - due to their age? But how can I go about proving that the image in question is indeed that old, as the image source (an article) doesn't explicitly state the age/origin date (but the images themselves are pretty well known, which is how I know). Thank you. Kamoozida (talk) 00:49, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would name an approximate date and explain why in the UPLOADWIZARD comment box. Good luck. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:46, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The above page is currently a GA nominee. I think it might not be unreasonable to have someone review it, possibly rather thoroughly. Oh, by the way, you really need to set for more frequent archiving of your user talk page. Over 100 threads on a single talk page is longer than I think I've seen pretty much anywhere. John Carter (talk) 17:34, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to subject you to this, but you may want to weigh in here Talk:Gospel of the Hebrews#Scope of this article and comment on the wisdom of bringing all the Aramaic/Hebrew gospel material back into this article. Ignocrates (talk) 19:05, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And, Ignocrates, if it is humanly possible for you, you might try to avoid making statements which seem to both violate WP:AGF and also jump to conclusions which are not necessarily supported by the evidence. You seem to have rather pronounced difficulties regarding both of those matters. John Carter (talk) 19:09, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For Your Information / Clarification

You wrote that no modern New Testament scholar supports the view that Matthew's Gospel was first written in Aramaic. I find this statement incredible. Although I respect your view, I am just curious to know what you think about the statement written in the book, The Gospel of Matthew, by co-authors Curtis Mitch and Edward Sri, p. 18, where we find these words:

I will answer this on the Talk:Gospel of Matthew. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:06, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously we are not moving this to the requested title, but it seems I was closing the request at the same moment you were commenting on a new destination. Do you want me to revert so the new name can be discussed in the context of the current discussion? (Or you could start a new discussion unencumbered by the other topic of the move, which might be more effective.)--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:02, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. I think how you have closed it is fine, and cleaner. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:07, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I had some kind of display error. I did not see the text box and your signature below it; the page simply cutoff after your initial "I don't really understand why it isn't at Primorska, since Primorska directs here", and so thought it was an unsigned comment. When I saved, however, I saw your whole post and was fooled into thinking you were posting simultaneously but I see you posted hours ago. I wrote this and then edit conflicted with the above. Comedy of errors.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(entertainer)

Hi In ictu - would you please stop changing disambiguators away from "(entertainer)"? When to use it is an unsettled question as you know, with RMs going both ways recently. It is certainly not uncontroversial. If you want to start an RfC on the issue, feel free, but otherwise I would suggest pursuing them as individual RMs for the time being until a clear consensus on the issue emerges. Thanks. Dohn joe (talk) 17:14, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dohn, I'm using my judgment as an editor. Most of those I have reverted have been undiscussed moves and very clearly counter sources. However you're welcome to revert per WP:BRD.
As for gone both ways. The simple one's haven't. You have been in a minority so far in supporting a neologism that is rarely or in some cases never used in printed sources. A balance has to be struck between leaving some (where it's justified), reverting some by WP:MOVE where it's obvious, and putting in WP:RM where there could be a case for merits on both sides.
As I say you can revert, but I recommend you run ["entertainer Name"] in Google Books before doing so. Ultimately we must follow the language and terms of reliable sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:30, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I just wish that we could at least get on the same page about the word itself. This may be an ENGVAR or a native-speaker issue, but it is just not the case that "entertainer" is limited to court jesters and vaudevillians. A singer is an entertainer. An actor is an entertainer. And "entertainer" is especially helpful as a descriptor when someone is notable within multiple realms of entertainment: a model-dancer, or a comedian-actor. I've already shown you a dozen examples of both individuals and groups being called "entertainers" by highly reputable sources, from newspapers up to and including academic journals. I don't understand your continued reluctance to recognize that that sense of "entertainer" is widely accepted, and certainly not a neologism. Is "singer" preferable when someone is exclusively (or nearly) notable as a singer? Sure. But if someone is notable as both a singer and an actor, "(singer)" becomes less and less helpful. We could use "(singer/actor)", but "(entertainer)" is more consistent when applied to all subjects who are notable across disciplines, don't you think? Dohn joe (talk) 18:16, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We could, you could suggest it.
Otherwise we don't need to rehash the RMs. Yes you've found some cases where 3% or 5% of printed sources use "entertainer Fred" among 80% for "the singer Fred" - but that 3% or 5% fails WP:AT twice, both on recognition and precision. The reason that the (singer) dabs are being restored in RMs is that 80+% hits for "the singer Fred" show the printed language as it is.
So far I haven't observed any ENGVAR issue when Australian, Canadian, US, UK printed sources all avoid "entertainer Fred". :::The argument that you're applying would mean going through Category:American female singers and moving every (singer) to (entertainer). Why not merge Category:American female singers into Category:American female singers and be done with it?
Those are rhetorical questions by the way, they are to explain my view not, with respect, invite discussion here, now, that can wait. Ultimately printed sources will bring titles to something sensible. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:28, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(people)#.28entertainer.29, I apologize for not making it clearer that the survey section was only for those who wished to participate in the survey, and that the discussion section was for more general comments such as yours. I hopefully made that clearer now. It wasn't meant to "hide" your comment, just manage the structure of the RfC. Hope there's no hard feelings. Dohn joe (talk) 18:58, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article David Goldsmith (actor) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only two roles, clearly not notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi @George Ho: no evidently not since in such a case Fuzao is the real title, the various English versions are just guesses. If there was an official title like Cui Jian's Balls Under the Red Flag then it would still need the Chinese. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:57, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi In ictu. This edit went against WP:REFACTOR. You can't change the rationale of a comment after three other editors have responded to that comment. It skews the discussion. It makes it look like people have responded to comments that didn't exist when they were made. Please don't do this again. Dohn joe (talk) 04:30, 7 September 2013 (UTC) P.S. If you were thinking about comparing this action with my move of your comment at the WP:Naming conventions (people) discussion, please read WP:REFACTOR, which allows people some leeway in structuring a talkpage discussion. At the time I moved your comment, no one had yet responded to it. By the time you moved it back, multiple editors had. Moving left those comments dangling without context. Dohn joe (talk) 04:30, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't compare the addition of WP:AT guideline to a RM nomination as refactor of the RfC. Since the other two editors didn't even need it. But I am quite happy to place after your comment, as you are the only editor to whom the WP:CRITERIA 2 question applies. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:39, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"And" dabs

I appreciate the articles with "and" dabs you dug up at the Mike Reid RM. If you come across any others, I'd appreciate their listing at User:BDD/And dabs. Unfortunately, I don't think there's going to be a practical systematic way of finding them all. --BDD (talk) 19:21, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

songs named "Applause"

Thank you for creating an article summarizing Bonnie Franklin's 1970 recording. All the attention on Gaga's recent release made me fear that the musical's title track would never get its proper treatment. — HipLibrarianship talk 08:34, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Holy Incense

In ictu oculi, hi! My article on the Holy Incense was rejected on grounds that it sounded more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. I do not deny that it has an essay-like style, but this is larger due to my past writing experiences on other venues. In short, I am asking your advice on how to change the style and make the current article acceptable to the set-requirements of Wikipedia. Can you please suggest areas in which I can change the style and make it acceptable? Here is my article: User:Davidbena/draft article on Holy Incense . Which references should be deleted? Which Primary Sources - if any - can be saved? Thanks in advance. Davidbena (talk) 17:55, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inviting anyone who has written on WP:Tennis

Since the Mikhail Youzhny career statistics FL nom is passing, its about time to discuss how to change the layout of the career statistics. It would be great if we could turn the Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray career statistics articles to FL status, but I feel I can only do that with support in the WP:Tennis project/community. --TIAYN (talk) 08:25, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you can meet THIS Belinda in-person and photograph her. This image is replaceable in the article. Unless you find notability of the album, can you tag it with db-g7? Thank you. --George Ho (talk) 17:52, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Socks, cocks and frocks. ;) You're better at working it out than me, but I note that the nomination was by an IP who has made one edit and the IP support has made half a dozen edits - all at RMs. Should I AGF or continue to wonder? Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:15, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Belinda Cabo Verde.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Belinda Cabo Verde.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
 2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Như Quỳnh (actress) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! Just letting you know the account exists. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:25, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I just put a note on that user's Talk page that contains some remarks about their choice of user name. At first glance, the user's contributions appear to be constructive, and they seem already rather familiar with Wikipedia editing and community practices. (For example, by successfully creating a user page with a centered animated picture, making a properly formatted and competently worded remark on an AfD discussion, and eschewing excess capitalization.) But it might be better if they would choose a different account name to avoid confusion about who is doing editing. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Như Quỳnh

The article literally said "Như Quỳnh (1954) is a Vietnamese actress.[1]". I have requested the speedy deletion of articles with more notability than this. WP:A7 perfectly applied and its initial deletion clearly demostrate it. You don't own the articles you create, and the lack of understanding of the CSD policy is incredible in an experienced editor like you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 03:37, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't an issue of owning articles, even though you went to the article and put a speedy on it because I created it as part of disambiguating the singer, WP:A7 requires a deleting editor to look at the interwiki link for sources in the local wikipedia language - you put a WP:A7 on a People's Artist with extensive filmography, leading roles in the 1970s and 1980s, and even roles in French-Vietnamese and South-Korean Vietnamese coproductions. I will add a note to WP:A7 if necessary. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:41, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"[E]ven though you went to the article and put a speedy on it because I created it as part of disambiguating the singer", can you prove it? If that were the truth, don't you think I would have reversed this. Also, there were no interwiki link. And I didn't put a A7 template on a "People's Artist with extensive filmography", because, once again, and *any* admin can verify this, the article that I requested deletion said "Như Quỳnh (1954) is a Vietnamese actress.[1]", I didn't request the deletion of this article, and .vi's demostrate why she is notable. The question is, why you didn't create an article like their's but you are here complaining about an article that was a re-phrase of the title. Wasn't better for a reader to read? this than "She is a Vietnamese actress"? Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:37, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You yourself said you went to that article because I created it here. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:49, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the link doesn't prove that I "went to the article and put a speedy on it because [you] created it as part of disambiguating the singer", still defamation? Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:53, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think rather than ask myself, you'd better ask Richhoncho and GeorgeHo on the impression your action leaves, seeing as they have both commented on your AfDs on articles I created. What is certain is what you yourself said about why you went to the article. I have opened discussion on the Talk page of the WP:A7 CSD criteria itself. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:00, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know Rich hasn't and George's argument was weak, he even accepted that the page he tried to defend wasn't notable in WP:GNG terms. I don't know if he tried to help you or the page by !voting "keep", but this is not a democracy. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 05:11, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
 • @Tbhotch. I have already made my opinion of you known on another page so don't write as though I haven't commented, but just for the record I note 5 deletions listed above and made by you, together with the timestamp posted to this page:-
 1. Applause (Bonnie Franklin song) - 23:26, 4 October 2013
 2. Belinda (Cape Verdean singer) - 23:26, 4 October 2013
 3. File:Belinda Cabo Verde.jpg - 23:26, 4 October 2013
 4. Như Quỳnh (actress) 23:47, 4 October 2013
 5. Killer (Swiss band) - 18:02, 5 October 2013

There is no connection between 4 of the items, oh, save, one, they were created by the same editor. I also note that Tbhotch is not known for nominating for deletion, in fact hasn't made one nomination since the last one above. Therefore there is only logical explanation, you trawled through one editor's contributions with the intention of making mischief. Too late to assume good faith now. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:12, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And your opinions are supposed to be cared by me because... I told you at Applause that I won't reply nothing you say, so stop sending me notifications as I don't care what you say or do here. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 23:28, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why would I think you would pay attention to my opinions when you pay no attention to any other editor's opinion? Sorry IIO for taking over your userpage - feel free to delete. --Richhoncho (talk) 18:30, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Kww

If we consider that the chance that I requested the deletion of an article, which was "intentionally a Vietnamese language stub in order that" I could request its deletion so you "could later complain about its deletion", possibly performed by any editor under A7 is almost nule, you should ask Kevin what does he mean with that accusation, because it seems to him that you created the article, which failed A7, to later complain the A7 process. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 05:04, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree it is nil since it had already passed New Page Patrol 4 days earlier, I would take it up with him, but he seems quite trigger happy. In 4 years of editing I have only ever come across one other threat like this. Perhaps you could say on the CSD Talk page that you didn't make any such accusation and he has misunderstood.

Thanks. Charles J. Hanley 11:55, 15 October 2013 (UTC) Cjhanley (talkcontribs)
