Welcome to the cleanup task force of WikiProject Anime and manga. This task force focuses on improving the quality of Wikipedia's anime and manga articles and ensuring that they comply with the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia. A list of articles needing cleanup associated with this project is available. See also the tool's wiki page and the index of WikiProjects. Cleanup guidelinesArticles on Wikipedia must comply with various policies and guidelines to stay on Wikipedia. Although this is not an immediate requirement, an article that does not meet these policies and guidelines may be deleted from Wikipedia or merged into an article of a similar topic. Some of the more important rules that must be taken into account are: Violation of certain rules, such as copyright, is grounds for immediate removal of content or an article. Not satisfying the notability criteria can lead to either the deletion of the article, selectively merging content into another article, a parent article or related topic, or the selective merging of multiple related articles into a new consolidated article or list. Anime and manga articles are no exceptions to these guidelines and policies, and must follow the guidelines stipulated at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (anime- and manga-related articles), and when appropriate, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). Anime and manga articles that do not follow these guidelines should be edited in order to meet them. In a nutshell, the term "cleanup" constitutes the editing of articles in order to meet the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia, and the editors involved in this task force are encouraged to edit anime and manga articles in order to bring them up to standard. NotabilityAccording to Wikipedia:Notability, "notability is an inclusion criterion based on encyclopedic suitability of a topic. The topic of an article should be notable, or 'worthy of notice'. This concept is distinct from 'fame', 'importance', or 'popularity'." Articles on Wikipedia must show non-trivial coverage from reliable, verifiable secondary sources in order to demonstrate the notability of their subject. First party sources cannot demonstrate the notability of an article, but they can be utilized for the purpose of verification of information within the article. Articles that do not meet the aforementioned guideline should be merged into a relevant article or deleted from Wikipedia. In the context of anime and manga articles, there often exists a primary article on the actual anime or manga along with several other articles that fall under the scope of the material. If the primary article on the anime or manga cannot assert notability, then it follows that the related "sub-articles" are not notable either, although exceptions can exist. ListsMany anime and manga articles utilize lists for utility purposes, such as episode lists, chapter lists, and character lists. Examples include List of Black Lagoon episodes, List of Naruto chapters (Part I), and List of Naruto characters respectively. While notability may not be assertable for these specific topics, they are appropriate under Wikipedia:Summary style, as they would bloat the size of the parent article, and make it unnecessarily difficult to read or navigate. Common precedent has allowed for such lists to exist; however, they are still required to meet Wikipedia:Manual of Style (anime- and manga-related articles) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). Lists on more specific material, such as tertiary characters or fictional locations, are cautioned, as provisions for summary style grow weaker, and it may be appropriate to merge the material into a parent list. As Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, the content of such lists should be examined to determine whether the material is notable enough for inclusion within the topic, as undue weight should not be given to any part of the topic. Other articlesOutside of these lists, all individual anime and manga articles must demonstrate their notability. Whether these are articles on individual characters, individual episodes or chapters of the anime or manga respectively, or other specific subjects, they must follow the provisions in Wikipedia:Notability for asserting their notability. Articles that cannot assert their notability should be merged into the relevant list or otherwise deleted. TriviaAccording to Wikipedia:Trivia sections, "Such sections should not be categorically removed: it may be possible to integrate some items into the article text. Some facts may belong in existing sections; others can be grouped into a new section of related material. Convert bullet points to prose or narrowly-focused lists (such as "Cameos" or "Continuity errors"), as seems most appropriate." Because Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, trivia sections are normally frowned upon. While they may contain some pertinent information, the manner in which they are often organized and displayed can lead to excessive detail and general clutter. Trivia sections should be evaluated for useful relevant content, have trivial content removed, and have the remaining content integrated into an appropriate section within the article. ConsensusThis page offers a centralized venue for the cleanup of the anime and manga articles on Wikipedia, and creates greater visibility for these problems than they would normally receive otherwise. Discussion thus may occur on the talk page of this task force concerning the cleanup of articles, and the manner it should be performed. While a consensus may be gained here concerning the manner of cleanup, editors who commonly edit the articles listed for cleanup should be notified of the discussion and invited to participate as a courtesy. While the editors of this task force are encouraged to actively clean up articles, they should be mindful of not disrupting Wikipedia in order to make a point, and respect the wishes of other editors on the articles they are working on. Bringing articles to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion or tagging the article to be deleted per Wikipedia:Proposed deletion is a last resort option that should only be utilized when attempts to reach a consensus through discussion fail, and premature actions in this regard may be construed as disruption of Wikipedia. Discussion resulting from conflicts arising from cleanup may be diverted to the talk page of this task force. Participants
Anyone is allowed to assist and be a part of the cleanup task force, provided that the participant will work to improve articles within the guidelines of the task force. If you wish to join, add your name below in alphabetical order using {{User}} (* {{User|your username}}) and add {{User WP Anime Cleanup}} to your userpage if you wish to use the userbox indicate you are on the task force. Manga (year of release missing)Video game articlesThese are video game articles that require cleanup; however, when cleaning these articles, keep in mind that they should obey the Video game project's article guidelines. None Featured/Good article rescuesSometimes our articles which have achieved a good article, featured article, or featured list status decline in quality and no longer meet the criteria to maintain their status. The articles listed below are ones which no longer meet those criteria and have been nominated to lose their status. As the various delisting systems usually have relatively short time frames to fix the problems (typically two weeks to one month) these articles may need more immediate attention than those listed for more general cleanup and fixes. Featured list removal candidates
Current cleanup projectsTo prevent duplicative cleanup efforts, task force members should list below the articles they are currently cleaning up, along with their user name. List cleanupThese are projects to clean up a list that falls within the project scope. To sign up for a project, add the article name in alphabetical order followed by - {{User|YOURNAME}} ~~~~~. Article cleanupThese are projects to clean up a single article that falls within the project scope. To sign up for a project, add the article name in alphabetical order followed by - {{User|YOURNAME}} ~~~~~. Series projectsThese projects involve multiple articles related to a single main anime/manga series. This usually includes subarticles such as episode, character, and chapter lists, templates, and individual character articles. Projects listed here are usually longer term, and often involve collaboration between task force participants. To add a new series project, list the series name as a level four header (with a link to the main article), in alphabetical order. Add a brief description, if desired, of the work being done. Under it, put * {{User|YOURNAME}} ~~~~~. Collaborators wishing to join an existing project should add their name in the same fashion. Non-article projectsThese are cleanup projects that are not specific to a single article, but what might be considered administrative work, such as cleaning up categories, doing article assessments, etc. Projects on non-article pages, such as cleaning up templates or category leads, should also be listed here. Many of these are likely to be long-term or ongoing projects with no clear conclusion, and if dropped, should be moved to the Open projects section below. To add a new project, write a brief description of the work, with appropriate links, and sign your name using - {{User|YOURNAME}} ~~~~~.
Open projectsThese are cleanup projects that are especially important, but are currently not being done by anyone. You can either adopt one of these by moving it to the appropriate section above and signing your name using - {{User|YOURNAME}} ~~~~~, or you can just do a little on one of them without actually adopting it.
