==Current requests for reduction in protection level==

Revision as of 07:42, 29 November 2016

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Permanent semi-protection: User:ThomasPark02, is trying to edit the archive page of previous cases brought against ThomasPark02 after a new case was brought at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ThomasPark02. He was recently unblocked and then blocked almost straight away again after he once again began his pattern of disruptive editing (see block log here). I made a similar request a few days ago after the archive page was edited, at the time I warned this kind of behaviour was "likely this will happen again" but the request was declined on the grounds that "we do not protect pre-emptively". However, the ThomasPark02 has since again tried to edit the archive as an IP, admitting in the edit to being the blocked user (see here), demonstrating this is a continuing problem. I spend enough of my time trying to clean up the messes this user makes. The banned user often moves or deletes warnings and parts of conversations in an attempt to twist them or hide evidence on his own talk page and it seems highly likely that the integrity of the archive (where editors are unlikely to be examining the logs to check that things haven't been altered) will become compromised if no protection is provided. There is no need for this page to be editable by non-confirmed users as it is an archive. Ebonelm (talk) 14:25, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – People really don't like how Nintendo handled the release of the console and are expressing their views in their edits. Gestrid (talk) 18:47, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Short-term semi-protection: Persistent conflicting changes, with the movie coming out in a little bit, there might be conflicting ideas. JustAGuyOnWikipedia (talk) 23:01, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. -- Fuzheado | Talk 00:37, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: 350 transclusions. George Ho (talk) 01:15, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continued addition of information that cannot be verified by reliable sources. livelikemusic talk! 02:20, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism after previous protection period expiry. 73.96.115.53 (talk) 02:59, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: WP:CRYSTAL violations - it is being reported that Vólquez will sign with the Miami Marlins, but the reports are unofficial pending a physical per latest sources. Trut-h-urts man (TC) 03:12, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – This article was recreated after being deleted, persistent edit warring, user blanked it and was nominated for speedy deletion, I put it as a redirect with a possibility, it should only be created by an admin. IMO, it's something that really doesn't deserve it's own article.

    • Turns out, the section was removed, maybe it should have it's own article, still, it should be protected to prevent disputes.

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Has just been drafted in the 2016 AFL Draft, will make a redirect until he makes his AFL debut ref. The-Pope (talk) 13:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    @RHaworth:--Ymblanter (talk) 17:53, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@The-Pope: For what it's worth, regardless if this title gets unprotected of not, I'd oppose creating this title as a redirect to 2016 AFL Draft. Such redirects have been nominated at WP:RFD in the past per WP:XY issues and most, if not all, have been deleted. Steel1943 (talk) 16:40, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: I am requesting that only the move protection be removed from this page; I have no intention to edit the page itself. This talk page's parent non-talk page, Wikipedia:Community Justice, is a redirect to its move destination, Wikipedia:Concordia. I intend to move this page to Wikipedia talk:Concordia/Meeting once/if its parent page gets restored. See related request at WP:REFUND. (Disclaimer: this page's protecting admin hasn't edited since 2015.). Steel1943 (talk) 22:51, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: 1700~1800 transclusions. Looks highly visible, but the amount of template editors is very low, like 150~170 per WP:UAE. The administrator is inactive at the moment, and 2,000 is considerably very low, now that ECP is widely available. George Ho (talk) 06:48, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Consensus reached at Talk:Yip Man. Anarchyte (work | talk) 07:17, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
