Revision as of 08:32, 12 October 2018

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Lordtobi () 09:37, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 12:29, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: low grade but persistent -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 12:29, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – For the past few days, user:205.123.244.172 has vandalized this page three times. This is an account with a single purpose: to vandalize this article. . Den... (talk) 15:51, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question: If it's a single user, would it not be better to block that user? -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:01, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    User(s) blocked. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:05, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Let me know it it restarts. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:05, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed: Persistent disruptive editing – Long term protection requested due to IPs making disruptive edits. EC or Semi would be preferred. IanDBeacon (talk) 17:06, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:52, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed Protection: Disruptive and/or "test" edits from inexperienced editors. Also, unsourced and/or poorly written content has been added as well. Could the protection please last for a week or so as this will be a widely covered topic for a decent while? Already was semi protected (couple days ago) and the issues are still there. Additionally, there have been some instances of WP:OVERLINKING in the see also and copyright violations with media. FigfiresSend me a message! 20:19, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Figfires - Where do you see these "test" edits being made? I looked through the history of this article, and other than reverts from edits by a now-blocked account, I don't see any edits that add or remove content for "testing purposes". If you could respond here with some diffs from recent edits where you saw this occurring, that would be very helpful. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:00, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Oshwah: Looking back on that, I don't think test edit was the right term for it... here is one thing I saw. Unnecessary text being added into the template as it auto converts from knots to mph and km/h. Im sure there may be more, but there have been a lot of edits. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. FigfiresSend me a message! 22:09, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This is one Hell of a current event. People will be flocking here to edit the "encyclopedia anyone can edit". Will leave it up to others to decide whether the commotion is worth the increased usage, but I am reluctant to protect in the absence of edit warring or outright vandalism. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:32, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Dlohcierekim: Some of the grammar in content that has been added is atrocious. People have also messed up references in many ways. Some content has been entirely unsourced while others have dead links in the ref. Additionally, quite a few edits have been reverted/removed for various reasons. With that, overlinking in the see also, some past copyright violations, and several disruptive edits, it would be nice for the article to have more protection as the current issues will only get worse as more information becomes available on the impacts. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Bennv3771 (talk) 02:07, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:38, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I can neither confirm nor deny agreeing w/ the revdel'd revisions -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:38, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Currently being continuously converted into an article about an unnotable YouTuber of the same name by anons. Nathan2055talk - contribs 04:29, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Ad Orientem (talk) 04:59, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent IP and new account vandalisms. Previously protected in the past, probably needs it every year around this time for a couple of weeks until the day passes. Ifnord (talk) 04:47, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Only a couple of disruptive edits recently. This may change. If it does just come back. Ad Orientem (talk) 05:02, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: this article provides people with a overview of the number of deaths under Joseph Stalin and and provides a range of numbers people have come to to arrive at the accurate number occasionally there is vandalism and disruptive editing that is why the page need to be semi protected . Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism. Likely the same person on a series of problematic edits, but on varying IP addresses. In the last week has escalated to including personal attacks directly in article content. Declangi (talk) 07:55, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Draft article should be moved here: Draft:Glenn Mena, which meets NMUSIC per the rotation on major radio stations, and addresses concerns from the last AfD. Enterprisey (talk!) 06:02, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: the source of the content dispute has been resolved with the publication of sources from a universally-accepted authority on the subject. 1.129.104.33 (talk) 08:32, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
