Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Weichei (talk | contribs) at 15:24, 15 May 2008 (→‎Current requests for unprotection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

indefinite full protection, due to spam/trolling/stalking by User:Joehazelton (block log)and his army of sockpuppets. — goethean 15:17, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

indefinite full protection , because if this redirect page gets vandalized or changed, it might not redirect to the article Dolphin Cove (Seaworld) anymore...which might be confusing to our readers. same applies to the discussion page.SomeUsr |  Talk Contribs 15:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, Since unprotection again just heavy and persistent vandalism from anonymous users. .—αἰτίας discussion 13:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Alexf42 14:12, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protect. Permanent high level of vandalism from IP addresses. Please apply indefinite semi-protection to pages per "Subject to heavy and persistent vandalism" rationale (WP:SEMI). See article history for details. Mieciu K (talk) 13:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC) Mieciu K (talk) 13:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection Vandalism, Some University of Arkansas student from his dorm/lab and from an at-home account with shifting IP continues to revert redirect against consensus..--EEMIV (talk) 11:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protect. High level of vandalism from IP addresses. Frequent forking out of (mis)information from Kyle's last.fm profile. This article gets the kind of abuse that Tenacious D does, and it has semi-protection. Look at [1] I can see about 10 reverts, a redirection to Jack Black's page, and other vandalism. This stuff is not productive. Tenacious D Fan (talk) 10:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

full-protect. Frequent user disputes over content and validity of edits. High level of user vandalism. --Relaxitaxi (talk) 09:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protect Frequent IP vandalism, last 23 edits have contributed nothing to the page. --Jpeeling (talk) 08:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protect Frequent anonymous IP vandalism of the "Family" section.--Redeagle688 (talk) 08:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    temporary semi-protection , I suggest 1 week, due to constant stream of speculatory drivel from IPs.TreasuryTagtc 06:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection , Random IPs adding unsourced information. Has been protected before, but IPs continued editing afterwards.DiverseMentality (Talk) (Contribs) 05:11, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    temporary semi-protection Vandalism.« Milk's Favorite Cøøkie ( talk / contribs) 01:25, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Italicize Super Smash Bros. Melee. --Weichei (talk) 15:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please unprotect and consider blocking if edit warring resumes. The article is on AFD, it is important that the article remain easy to improve while on AFD. Regards, NonvocalScream (talk) 10:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page needs to be unprotected. His stature continues to grow in the health care industry in a way that's different than his co-author and counterpart Dr. Mehmet Oz. He is one of the top executives of The Cleveland Clinic as well as a nationally known author on health and fitness. There is no informaton on the page at all, and I am prepared to use a half-dozen authoritative sources to establish a page. Cseper (talk) 22:20, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This recently undeleted page needs to be unprotected so that the community can try and restore it to the high quality article that would be expected. It is unlikely that politically motivated individuals from Encyclopedia Dramatica website will attempt to damage this page as they have a whole wiki of their own to vandalize. Cheers Chebyshev (talk) 21:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC) Declined No. Horologium (talk) 21:19, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(take 3) ArbCom has just clarified their position, so the edit war should be settled. Semi-protection may still be warranted to prevent vandalism. Z00r (talk) 04:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please courtesy blank the above two pages, both of which are fully protected, per OTRS #2008051310027978. Thank you. Paul Yeratz (talk) 10:19, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Fulfilled/denied requests

full-protection, MAJOR VANDALISM, happening right now, specifically by two users, who keep harassing me, and deleting over half of the article, I think to make me mad. Need immediate action please. EDIT: User, Hav0xx is vandalising the page completely now, and he's told me he intends to keep editing it back, even without a source to cite. He says if Wikipedia bans him, he will create a new account and continue vandalising. Please, this page needs protection. Dude527 (talk) 04:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined User warned about edit warring. If s/he continues then s/he'll be blocked. The page isn't protected pre-emptively against potential multiple accounts, see Wikipedia:Protection policy. PeterSymonds (talk) 06:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi protection IPs and new users have commented. It is known that there will be trolling issues with this matter and valid comments can be left on the talk page. MBisanz talk 02:51, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. There is no prohibition against either IP or new users commenting, and I don't see any history of abuses that would indicate that protection is indicated at this time. This seems to be jumping the gun, and prophylactic protections are hardly needed, especially for what is supposed to be an open discussion. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Full protection; edit war. -Jéské (v^_^v E pluribus unum) 02:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined There's hardly been that many edits at all on this article, nothing which could really be termed an edit war... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    semi-protection Vandalism.Abby 02:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection Due to long term vandalism from multiple sources. May need long term semi-protection, as it doesn't get a lot of good faith edits and receives quite a bit of vandalism. VanTucky Vote in my weird poll! 01:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protect. stupid amount of IP vandalism lately. RedSpruce (talk) 00:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Not enough vandalism recently to warrent this. Re-report if problems become unmanagable. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:28, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protect Constantly being vandalised by IPs, I think it can be long term semi-protected like some of the other high-vandalism articles. The DominatorTalkEdits 13:51, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for a period of one week. Tiptoety talk 04:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article currently on AFD - full protection prevents article being improved as part of the AFD process. Editprotected requests on talkpage being ignored also. Exxolon (talk) 02:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined The article was protected earlier today due to edit warring. The start of an AFD is no reason to unprotect it. Edit requests can be made via {{editprotected}} on the talk page. In fact, a couple edits have already been made using this method. - Rjd0060 (talk) 04:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection , The list contained in this article does not change and comes from a reference. Multiple times every day editors do not read or ignore the instructions and add random entries..NeilN talkcontribs 03:46, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, Barrage of anon and new user vandalism through out the month of May. In fact, almost every anon contribution is either vandalism or test edits. Semi-protection for a few weeks might be in order here. .Wisdom89 (T / C) 03:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

protect, we have a user threatening to delete the article, even though we have references for just about everything. A lot of vandalism occuring lately, mainly by the threatening user and some IPs. Dude527 Dude527 (talk) 01:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: User (Hav0xx (talk · contribs)) notified that Wikipedia is not crystal ball User also advised that any further additions without a citation will be treated as vandalism. An admin may still want to look at this, as I am not an admin, and I have never replied to an RPP before. J.delanoygabsadds 01:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
. The article has sustained a massive amount of vandalism, and probably should be temporarily semi-protected. J.delanoygabsadds 01:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thank you. When will an admin check this out? Because random IPs and even some users are adding information that is not cited in any way, and is pure speculation. We need a semi-protect, and soon, if possible. Again, thank you. Dude527 (talk) 02:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection , Requesting temporary semi-protection, due to removal of cited material from a Featured Article. The article is also experiencing vandalism from multiple other IPs, page blanking, etc. .Cirt (talk) 01:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
