Hi Avicennasis I Just want to appreciate the edits you made for the article Alfonso G. Pablo Sr.; I wish I could do some of those things.Greferjun (talk) 18:06, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AvicBot error

Hi Avic, your bot should not have tagged the "Civil engineering" article as uncategorised after I'd re-introduced the categories. Graham87 11:38, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Duly noted. I've adding some coding which I think should stop this from happening again. Thanks for the heads up. Avicennasis @ 03:38, 6 Elul 5771 / 03:38, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AvicBot2

I just wanted to let you know that AvicBot2 seems to be repeatedly triggering the edit filter. This should probably be resolved before allowing the bot to continue. Thanks. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:50, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. Filter 47 seems to be way too complicated, so it's now been disabled. Avicennasis @ 20:45, 6 Elul 5771 / 20:45, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is no references in List of benzo compounds

Hello, you have twice changed the template {{Refimprove}}{{Unreferenced}}, because there is no references in the article! I have reverted both of your edits Christian75 08:00, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about that! The use of a reference tag for a non-reference footnote seems to have AWB confused. I've added the nobots tag to the page to stop it from being processed. (Though if you disagree with said action, I won't mind at all if you revert it.) Again, sorry. Avicennasis @ 08:34, 7 Elul 5771 / 08:34, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AvicBot2

Your bot seems to be generating a large number of null edits that are getting blocked by the edit filter. What is the point of them? Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:32, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've now had to block it since it continues to make null edits, including an attempted edit on User:Jéské Couriano's userpage. Let me or another admin know when it is under control so I or another admin can unblock it. Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:56, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
AvicBot 2 was null editing a few pages to force some updates (that purging wouldn't do and the job queue won't process.) I'm not sure why it's hitting the edit filter, since it's not actually changing anything. (Any ideas on that, as an edit filter manager?) I've stopped all AvicBot2 scripts for now. Avicennasis @ 20:05, 8 Elul 5771 / 20:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've unblocked the bot. (Sorry, didn't realize you would log in that soon after blocking. :P ) Why would it be editing Jéské's userpage, though? I'll email you with the filter details, since many of those filters are designed to catch prolific sockmasters and abusers. Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:19, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Emailed you why your bot was triggering filters. Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:22, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It was editing userpages that have a protection tag, since a number of those belong in Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. And I got the email. I believe I can correct the filter tripping fairly easy. Avicennasis @ 20:43, 8 Elul 5771 / 20:43, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

help! - Dahlia Lynley-Chivers submission

Dear Avicennasis, You were really kind to help me with the reference section in the article. Now I just wonder what else can be done to get it accepted. I've added quotations, references, pronunciation and more factual information and run out of ideas. Dahlia really is an important character in the Southern Vampire Mysteries and she can't be described through Sookie because in the Dahlia's stories another (both geographically and personally) point of view is represented. There's also the question of uploading an image. Would you, please, help me with it. The image in question is the one with the link in the "character box" (http://i.usatoday.net/life/_photos/2011/02/10/daylightx-large.jpg) Thank you in advance Severenika (talk) 13:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC) Severenika[reply]

Project tags / DisambigProject

Hi, ever thought about using a bot (Wikipedia:Bot requests) to add this template to all pages in the Category:Disambiguation pages? Might save you some work...--Teilzeittroll (talk) 16:22, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have a couple requests open right now. I'm just sprinkling them in a little by little, though. I think that's best for DisambigProject. Avicennasis @ 16:33, 10 Elul 5771 / 16:33, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That might be. Keep on sprinkling! Greetings --Teilzeittroll (talk) 16:55, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

orpan disambig page??

Hi,

you have added an orphan template to Agmon. Is not it strange? I thought the policy is to avoid links to disambig pages (they exist for the convenience of the user, not to have incoming links), so how can it be an orphan?

Thanks, Sasha (talk) 19:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was checking for orphan links to non-disamb pages - and as you can see in my edit not 3 minutes later, I added the disambig tag (which should have been there before.) Avicennasis @ 19:34, 11 Elul 5771 / 19:34, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jasper County Courthouse (Newton, Iowa)

I expanded Jasper County Courthouse (Newton, Iowa) and nominated it for DYK. Since you started the article, do you want me to add you to the nomination? SL93 (talk) 00:00, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to here it's been expanded and up for DYK. Since it was pretty much just a few templates and two sentences when I started it, (and most of that was semi-automated), I don't really feel that my name needs to be on the nomination. I do appreciate the offer, though. Keep up the great work! Avicennasis @ 00:12, 18 Elul 5771 / 00:12, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AvicBot thoughts

I just happened across a string of double redirects your bot fixed which were the result of vandalism (e.g. this) - have you thought about putting some sort of delay for that task to avoid that problem? I haven't looked for any discussions on this topic beyond scanning that particular BRFA, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. VernoWhitney (talk) 20:17, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how - AvicBots' scripts (and AFAIK most other double-redirect-fixing bots) just make API calls for all double-redirects. Trying to work-in a "last edited" parameter seems to return the last time the double-redirect was edited, (e.g., this edit, from 2009) not the time of the edit that caused the double-redirect. It certainly might be possible, but it's a bit above my head on that one. Even so, this kind of page-to-redirect vandalism isn't too common, as far as I know, (correct me if I'm wrong) so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Dummy edit

In reference to this reply, you can actually purge the cache in different ways. First off, you can purge it, by adding ?action=purge to the end of a url, when it is in wiki/ARTICLE. If you are in a w/index.php?title=ARTICLE page, add &action=purge to the end. Another way you can do this is by going to edit. Then, without really having edited anything in the editbox, save the page. It won't show up as an edit in the history, but it will still clear the cache of that page. Just wanted to let you know. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 19:41, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dummy/null edits are different than purges. Avicennasis @ 19:56, 21 Elul 5771 / 19:56, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, about that time display

שלום חברי,

How do you get your sig to display the Hebrew date like that? Also (unrelated to wiki), given the association on one of your userboxes, what is your opinion of "Anonymous" (I am pretty sure it's just a bunch of organised guys, with a leader, claiming to be Anon) vowing vengeance upon various New York-based institutions as they did today? Classic case of butthurt? Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 01:44, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! For the Hebrew date, I use a time parser function of {{#time: xjj xjF xjY}} which produces 16 Tamuz 5784.
As for Anonymous - I actually hadn't heard of this "Day of Vengeance" thing until you mentioned it. My bet is that it is unrelated to the actual group, and is moreso an undertaking of script kiddies with (what they think are) beliefs that are shared with the group. Avicennasis @ 03:57, 24 Elul 5771 / 03:57, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh neat. I am afraid I know nothing of these functions nor could I hope to understand how Wikipedia knew to translate it to the Hebrew month name (albeit in Latin characters), but with your permission, I would like to use it in my signature.
Oh yes, I highly doubt they have anything to do with Anon other than the name. I mean designated leaders, an actual altruistic goal, openly expressing strong negative emotion in response to retaliation, and to top of it off, freaking white knighting! No way this is the same Anon (though I only know of them from what I have read and would never claim to actually know what I'm talking about). The point about them being script kiddies is why they will fail of course at whatever they attempt as most of them are idealists driven by emotion, a false view of the purpose of what Anon is, and some idea of rebelling against authority who are probably installing programs to make their comps zombies for some of the more experienced members. It's people like this that killed ED (with articles like the Uwe Boll one) imo. At least that malware they installed should be a good reward for their efforts. /rant Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 24 Elul 5771 04:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to add it to your sig. And it returns the English name for the Hebrew month here on EnWp because the server language is set in English. If you try the same parser on HeWp, you'd get the proper
"24 אלול 5771"
string.
What really gave this "Anon" thing away was when I read that they are are planning a "peacefully yet forcefully protest"... Heh. Not to mention the fact that a website was set up with a WHOIS guard. (really, easily traceable once a subpoena comes into play. I mean, come on!)
Anyway. Let me know if know need help with this (or any other) parser function. They can be pretty neat (though a real pain to learn/use at times.) Avicennasis @ 04:53, 24 Elul 5771 / 04:53, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I shall do so now (though it appears when I tested it before, I forgot to remove it, so I guess I do nothing :p) Ah, though I still don't get why it puts in Hebrew xD (must be the j's stand for Jewish [calender])
Indeed, true Anon would mercilessly destroy their target (like that idiot who beat up his cat or the chick who broiled her cat). Oh lol, now the funniest part about that will be the stories that follow about the mass arrests and crying basement dwellers bawwwing (there won't be a wambulance big enough to contain them (yeah I know I'm rounding off a lot of tired old memes :p)). Largest number of morons v& at once ever I'll bet. I personally think that some brave Anon should hack their site and basically humiliate them (now that would be funny).
Will do mate, thanks very much, and ya, if they can convert these odd codes into things like that, they must be something special (I further demonstrate my cluelessness on this matter). I now have to go deal with a seemingly irrate Russian Jew (or ignore him and do actual work which is also good :p) May you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for a good year (though I realise that is next week; four day weekend \o/). Malankara Metropolitans

User:Crusoe8181 has made a number of corrections that are ridiculus and so are unaceptable.

Because you have also played a part in it, please see the letter below that I am sending to Crusoe8181:

Sorry to note your recent changes of titles of Malankara Metropolitans were done without any consultation or warning. You seem to assume that your corrections also fit into the category Wikipedia:Naming conventions (clergy) {Syriac bishops} and {Eastern Orthodox metropolitans, archbishops and bishops} Names of bishops given in these categaries are that of Roman Catholic Churches in Kerala, and not that of Malankara Metropolitans. It seems that you have not read the introductory part of naming conventions that tells you about ancient historical church clergy at the higher level. Also please remember that the title “Mar” must be used with their names and should not be left out.

These new titles given to our bishops are ridiculus and insulting. Hope you have not done this delibrately.Neduvelilmathew (talk) 08:16, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update on courses and ambassador needs

Hello, Ambassadors!

I wanted to give you one last update on where we are this term, before my role as Online Facilitator wraps up at the end of this week. Already, there are over 800 students in U.S. classes who have signed up on course pages this term. About 40 classes are active, and we're expecting that many more again once all the classes are up and running.

On a personal note, it's been a huge honor to work with so many great Wikipedians over the last 15 months. Thanks so much to everyone who jumped in and decided to give the ambassador concept a try, and double thanks those of you who were involved early on. Your ideas and insights and enthusiasm have been the foundation of the program, and they will be the keys the future of the program.

Courses looking for Online Ambassadors

Still waiting to get involved with a class this term, or ready to take on more? We have seven classes that are already active and need OA support, and eleven more that have course pages started but don't have active students yet. Please consider joining one or more of these pods!

Active courses that really need Online Ambassadors:

Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Please take a look at the relevant RFC page before responding and be sure that you are willing and able to enter that environment and contribute to making the discussion a calm and productive one focussed on the content issue at hand. UAA

Is AvicBot okay? It hasn't made reports at User:Avicennasis/reports/uaa/report for almost a day. --Danger (talk) 22:28, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. The cronjob might be failing. I just manually ran the script remotely - I'll look into it futher when I get home. Avicennasis @ 23:05, 22 Tishrei 5772 / 23:05, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, cron died. should be working again. Nice catch - feel free to ping me if it has any more hiccups. Avicennasis @ 00:32, 23 Tishrei 5772 / 00:32, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you much. Danger (talk) 03:19, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AvicBot2 trial

How is the trial for AvicBot2 going? I looked at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AvicBot2 and there haven't been any updates since 16 October. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 09:33, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So far, so good. It should be clearing your Signpost page today, a little before midnight, and that should happen roughly every 7 days. Avicennasis @ 22:19, 27 Tishrei 5772 / 22:19, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The bot cleared the page without any problems (although another editor reverted that edit by the bot, but that was a good faith mistake). Thank you for all your work on this bot. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 02:27, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. The task was delayed since something killed my crontab, but that's easy enough to fix. Should be good to go. Avicennasis @ 02:29, 28 Tishrei 5772 / 02:29, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Suggestions for responding.

Greetings! You have been randomly selected to receive an invitation to participate in the request for comment on Talk:Sri Lanka. Should you wish to respond to the invitation, your contribution to this discussion will be very much appreciated! However, please note that your input will carry no greater weight than anyone else's: remember that an RFC aims to reach a reasoned consensus position, and is not a vote. In support of that, your contribution should focus on thoughtful evaluation of the issues and available evidence, and provide further relevant evidence if possible.

Full contents of WikiProject Film newsletter?

Hello, you are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Outreach as preferring the full contents of the latest WikiProject Film newsletter. There has been a transition in newsletter writing and distribution, so I wanted to ask if you still prefer the full contents (which may have been delivered with some inconsistency in the past) or if you are okay with a link to the newsletter page. Thanks, Erik (talk | contribs) 19:47, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bot malfunctioning

Your bot seems to be adding {{orphan}} tags to categories [2]. I don't think that's intended? —Ruud 12:23, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. I've reverted the errors - I will stop and fix the script later today. Thanks for the heads up, good block. Avicennasis @ 13:38, 4 Cheshvan 5772 / 13:38, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I've unblocked your bot account. Cheers, —Ruud 16:14, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Today at 19:31 UTC your bot still added {{orphan}} to this file description page. That also doesn't make much sense.
Looking at Special:Contributions/AvicBot, I see that was no isolated mistake. Please test your bot more thoroughly and do supervised runs first. And please clean up after that bot. Lupo 20:48, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, indeed - the bot is not supposed to run this script outside articlespace. The filter that was supposed to remove all non-mainspace pages from the runlist failed - I have already found the cause and fixed it. I'll be cleaning the bot's run currently. Again, sorry - and this shouldn't happen again. Avicennasis @ 20:59, 4 Cheshvan 5772 / 20:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing double redirects

Hey, AvicBot should delay a little while before fixing double redirects, to prevent problems like this, and also to stop problems relating to page move vandalism. Redirect fixer, which also worked at the rate of knots, was disabled for a very good reason. Fixing double redirects is not an urgent issue ... I would delay it for half an hour from the time that the page was moved, at the very least. Graham87 01:42, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
