A long term vandal you may be able to help with
Hello. I am contacting you because I noticed you had created "Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of 58.187.64.7". For several months now User:Doc9871 and I have been monitoring the activities of a long term abuse vandal. The IP 58.187.64.7 and the others associated with it belong to this vandal. All of our information we have compiled so far is at Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Hanoi Vandal. If by chance you have any information that may help, please respond there, or here, or at my talk page. Thank you. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 15:53, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia Ambassadors update
Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.
You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.
Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.
If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.
- Please do these steps as soon as possible
First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.
Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:
Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).
After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)
As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.
- Communication and keeping up to date
In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:
- The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
- The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
- If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
- Ambassador training and resources
We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)
Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.
The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.
Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

Since today is.wikipedia is getting language links from Wikidata. You should either update your bot, once an update that makes pywikipedia compatible with Wikidata becomes available, or stop its present job of maintaining interlanguage links. Thanks.--Snaevar (talk) 00:50, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Uklanjanje bot zastavice / Removal of bot flag
(English) I want to inform you that on bs.wiki there has been a voting that resulted in accepting the removal of bot flags for inactive and/or interwiki bots. Your bot has been identified to meet at least one of these criteria. This decision has been made due to the new developments with Wikidata by which all interwiki bots have become unnecessary. If you want to keep your bot flag, then please report that here by indicating what new task your bot will be performing and how this will be done. Note however that this has to be a concrete and useful task for the community before it will be accepted. If you have any questions, please let me know on my talk page. In case of no response, the removal of the bot flag will be performed within a few weeks from now. However, after that period you are always welcome to file a new request for a bot flag.

AvicBot and redirects from userspace
This is a feature request, not a bug report; I've not spotted any misbehavior. The "How to use sandbox" section of Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions has a question regarding a userspace sandbox: a page was created in userspace, moved to AFC space, moved to mainspace, and AvicBot correctly fixed the double redirect. Is there any way to tell the bot not to fix double redirects from userspace to mainspace, since confusion can arise for new users? Nyttend (talk) 04:28, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Left of Center (song)
Greetings. Please change the redirect on Left of Center (song) from Left of Center (Sirius) to Left of center, because:
- The Sirius page is about a radio station, not a song;
- The Sirius page is mentioned on the disambiguation that is Left of center;
- There are at least two actual songs called "Left of Center" with references already (Suzanne Vega, Serj Tankian)
- It could probably be argued successfully that the Sirius station was named because of the Suzanne Vega song.
I have attempted to fix this myself, only to be undone. So I try this route.... -- Hooperswim (talk) 21:17, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Done Redirects can be repointed easily - but you shouldn't point a redirect at a redirect, which is why AvicBot fixed it again. this edit should solve the problem and show the difference. Avicennasis @ 05:17, 14 Tamuz 5773 / 05:17, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

AvicBot: Talk:St Jude's Anglican Church
The bot has twice reversed my redirect (for the talk page but not the article). There is no double redirect, something seems to have gone wrong with the bot. In the mean time I have blanked the page - the Talk page is empty anyway. Thanks.--Mhockey (talk) 14:51, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) This edit by you points the page to Talk:St Jude's Church which itself is a redirect to Talk:St Jude's Church, Kensington. There is no problem with the bot. Avicennasis @ 21:27, 15 Tamuz 5773 / 21:27, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I see the problem now - actually two problems. 1. My redirect should have been to Talk:St. Jude's Church, not Talk:St Jude's Church. 2. After an old move of St Jude's Church the original page was correctly redirected to the dab page here, but the original Talk page was not redirected, so it was left as a redirect to the wrong page. Now if someone could do a bot to check that talk pages follow article pages...--Mhockey (talk) 23:12, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
AvicBot and BLP
Please see this contribution page: [1]. This was used to attack a politician at 2013-06-15T17:56:13. The edit was reverted at 2013-06-15T18:53:57. But by 2013-06-15T18:44:19, AvicBot was spreading the BLP violation.
It is my technical understanding, perhaps flawed, that double redirects are entirely ok. So would it be possible to not "fix" a double redirect until at least 24 hours has elapsed? Thank you, Unscintillating (talk) 21:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Scouting images
AvicAWB tagged a number of Scouting images with {{Non-free logo}} that already used {{non-free Scout logo}}. Since |

AvicBot2 sandbox edits
Hi. Could your bot subst the template {{Template sandbox reset}} when editing the Template:X1 series ? This way we could easily customize the text left by all sandbox bots, and make improvements like noinclude the whole thing so that users can properly transclude their test template. This would avoid bots overwriting each other because they use different text as well. Cenarium (talk) 15:13, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

AvicBot bug: Bot modifies HTML comments
Hi, I just observed that your bot modifies embedded HTML comments as in this edit: [2] While it was fine to fix the double redirect in the first redirect statement, comments must remain untouched by bots, no matter what the contents might be. In this case, the comment contained a "convenience hint" to other editors to make them aware of the fact that another parallel redirect exists, which should become the target page, once a separate article about the OCTOPUS network is written. You will find similar comments in many redirects. Your bot changed this to become completely meaningly. So, please leave editing HTML comments to humans. Thanks. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 12:31, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
- Such "hints"should be written out, not merely commented out redirect coding. But I believe this is a problem with pywikipediabot's code, not my own. I'll see if I can track it down. Avicennasis @ 05:36, 26 Elul 5773 / 05:36, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Sawai Madhopur Junction railway station
As both Indian Railways & the platform board both list the station as Sawai Madhopur Junction, the article should be named Sawai Madhopur Junction railway station. I am not sure if moving it between Sawai Madhopur Junction railway station & Sawai Madhopur railway station is really doing any good. I have made a similar comment of the article's talk page & also with a couple of editors who have made changes on the page. Do put in your comments if you see fit. Are double redirects still being fixed by bots?
I've noticed that the redirect bots are working a lot more slowly than usual, if they are working at all. This could become extremely problematic in the event of page moves when disambiguation pages are created. --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:30, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Following the WikiSalon, we will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza.

AvicBot thinks gfdl is a bank in Hawaii
Dear Avicennasis,
When I typed gfdl into the search bar, I was surprised to end up at an article about First Hawaiian Bank, an article that never mentions "gfdl".
I see that article about a bank also currently has redirects from GNU Free Documentation License/Secondary sections, GNU Free Documentation License/Secondary Sections, GNU Free Documentation License/Front-Cover Texts, GNU Free Documentation License 1.2, GNU Free Documentation license, GNU free documentation license, GNU Free Documentation Lisence, Gnu free documentation license, Gnu Free Documentation License, GNUFreeDocumentationLicense, Free Documentation License, GNU Free Document License, Gnu Free Document Licence, Text of the GFDL, Back-Cover Texts, GFDL license, GNU/FDL, GNU FDL, GDFL, etc.
I hope it is non-controversial that that all of those redirects should comply with WP:R#PLA and link to GNU Free Documentation License, rather than some article that doesn't even mention those terms.
It appears that someone deleted all the text of the GNU Free Documentation License article, replacing it with a redirect to some other unrelated article. Then User:AvicBot "fixed" all the redirects to that original article to point directly to that unrelated article. (AvicBot sees redirect A points to redirect B which points to article C. So AvicBot changes A to point directly to article C.) Then a couple of hours later someone reverted that "test edit" (vandalism?).
When some redirect B later becomes (or is reverted to) a non-redirect article, Is there an easy way to find *all* the redirects like A (gfdl) that used to point to (redirect) B before AvicBot "fixed" them, and revert AvicBot's edits so redirects like A that used to point to (redirect) B are restored to pointing to (article) B again?
Would it maybe be possible to tweak User:AvicBot so AvicBot delays changing A to point directly to C until it looks like redirect B is "stable" and not quickly-reverted vandalism?
Would it maybe be possible to tweak User:AvicBot so AvicBot attempts to comply with WP:R#PLA and only changes A to point directly to C when the text of C actually contains the title of A?
--DavidCary (talk) 17:17, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
- I went ahead and reverted 3 of the worst (see Special:WhatLinksHere/First_Hawaiian_Bank). I hope this doesn't mess up whatever action you eventually take, Avicennasis.--Auric talk 00:38, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

By a long train of rabbit trails, I ended up on this page and noticed how it has repeatedly been moved by bots against your wishes. I've given it full protection against pagemoves, so admin rights will be required to move it; hopefully this will prevent bots from moving it inappropriately. Should an adminbot come along (and thus move it without you being unable to revert it), or should you decide that you want it at some other title, leave a note at my talk page or post a request at WP:RFPP, and any admin will be happy to unprotect it for you. Nyttend (talk) 05:13, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
I just now happened upon this page's history of inappropriate pagemoves by bots. In order to prevent such pagemoves in the future, I've given it full pagemove protection; only admins will be able to move it. Should you decide that you want it somewhere else, or should you find that an adminbot has come around and moved it without you having the ability to put it back, leave a note at my talk or post a request at WP:RFPP.
