Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Westsomething (talk | contribs) at 02:39, 12 November 2012 (Requesting semi-protection of Nikolai_Klyuev.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: Page of a person (a poet). Constant IP vandalism with biography of the article's person. Westsomething (talk) 02:39, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Now every other edit to this page is a registered user reverting an IP. I suspect vandal socks, but of course I have no evidence and will not file an SPI. This is wasting valuable time, please protect this FA. ~ GabeMc (talk|contribs) 02:25, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – article subject currently featured as a Google doodle, vandalism has started. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 01:48, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Regular IP vandalism and edit-warring. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:44, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: high number of IP and accounts vandalism over the last few days Evaders99 (talk) 23:15, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IP vandalism: changing true population size with false ones.Farshid7 (talk) 23:04, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: High level of IP vandalism from the past week and several weeks ago. 96.247.79.136 (talk) 22:25, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: BLP policy violations. STATic message me! 21:26, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: BLP policy violations. STATic message me! 21:26, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism immediately picked up since expiry of last semi-protection. Mark91it's my world 21:16, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated – Re-created 4 times now. Legoktm (talk) 21:10, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Request semi-protection for a month until current changes slow down. Reading dozens of changes each day is time-consuming. Let knowledgeable, registered editors perform them. This could be a way of recruiting more editors BTW!. Student7 (talk) 20:59, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long history of vandalism. Widr (talk) 20:57, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi. Repeated IP falsification of the speaker data. — kwami (talk) 20:44, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection per vandalism by multiple IP editors today, many in the past few hours. Suggest several weeks to cool this down. Jusdafax 05:07, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This was a brief attack, mostly by one editor via proxies (all blocked). I'm watching it and will protect if they return. Materialscientist (talk) 05:19, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – There's an ongoing news story here, along with a Facebook petition, protests, etc., including a recommendation that people come and start editing Wikipedia. We're just on the cusp of breaking into an edit war, and I think temporary full protection, forcing discussion on the article talk page will help steer new editors into a consensus-building discussion. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:12, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The edit war never really broke out, so I don't think full-protection is warranted just yet (although I can see things remain rather tense). I'll put the page on my watchlist. I won't be available for a few hours, however, so I'm leaving the request open in case the situation changes while I'm away. — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 09:12, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It hasn't broken out because I stopped reverting (though I should be, because the continuing changes are not really good), and because I already schooled 3 of the "older" (i.e., from 1 day ago) participants to not keep reverting...but we've had 2 new people show up since then, both going way into WP:UNDUE territory. If you want, I can force this into an edit warring situation...but somehow I think that that would be behavior inappropriate of an admin. But I will have to take action eventually to compel discussion, one way or the other. Qwyrxian (talk) 11:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And as further followup, a quite perusal of the last day's history clearly indicates a multi-pronged edit war. Protect the article, or block the involved editors, but please make the craziness stop. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:38, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Long term of IP vandalism with unsourced content. jcnJohn Chen (Talk-Contib.) RA 07:05, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. I do not see any vandalism. Ruslik_Zero 19:03, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of vandalism, For years people are constantly changing her bio, I have set it per her Manager. JSWalti (talk) 22:53, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I see no reason to issue semi-protection. I need to read WP:V and WP:Copyright before filing any more complaints here. Ruslik_Zero 19:08, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

It has been protected since 2009 due to many users "unredirecting" it even though the singer had no individual notability. Now that he has left DragonForce and started his own band, I think it is time to create his own article, as briefly discussed here. I've just tried contacting the protecting admin, only to find out he's inactive since March, which made me believe I would have no answer at all. Victão Lopes I hear you... 14:51, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Was indefinitely protected in 2009, though perhaps a temporary protection would have been more suitable. More prominent players than Mattie Forde are unprotected. 86.40.195.231 (talk) 01:05, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Note: notified protecting admin [1]. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 01:19, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I protected this, and it should probably have been only temporary. No objection to unprotecting. Tom Harrison Talk 02:11, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
