Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 72.64.251.152 (talk) at 22:09, 26 June 2013 (→‎Current requests for unprotection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

The source of the vandalism is a single IP address, which I've blocked. Gamaliel (talk) 21:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Why did this page go from indef to temp? It already endures a massive load of vandalism from semi-protection. Kevin12xd (contribs) 20:54, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Constant vandalism and BLP concerns since previous protection ended on June 22. -- LuK3 (Talk) 19:55, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Ponyo.. GedUK  20:30, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – IP continuing to vandalize. . -- LuK3 (Talk) 19:12, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, I've raised it on the other admin's page, but for this sake of this page, this is closed. GedUK  19:58, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Repeatedly recreated. Recreated on Francine Shapiro page and then deleted by bot due to fixing double. Stuartyeates 22:33, 1 June 2013‎ (UTC)

Note that the above addition was not made by me, despite bearing my signature. Stuartyeates (talk) 20:04, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:28, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Creation protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.. Could well be notable in the future. GedUK  20:24, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Edit warring over the current Prime Minister. Hopefully, 72hrs should be enough. AussieLegend () 16:14, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, As I said with the releated requests earlier, semi protection would be pointless because almost everyone editing that page is a confirmed user. I don't consider full protection wise on an article moving this quickly, but if you think that's necessary please relist and another admin can look at it. GedUK  20:20, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Protection just expired, gonna become a hot topic for IPs again. Arctic Kangaroo () 15:50, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. That will get us through the 4th of July weekend. Bearian (talk) 16:19, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent unconstructive edits. Sni56996 (talk) 15:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  20:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multiple anons are making changes to the results of this tournament. As you can see, this is a future event and only 5 of 32 teams have qualified for the tournament. Please lock down for anon and new editors for a few weeks. Walter Görlitz (talk) 13:56, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  20:06, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated vandalism by IP address. The credibility of the article is threatened - boxing champions need to be updated almost every week and there are numerous vandalisms every day destroying hard work of the users who take care of the article. --Novis-M (talk) 12:50, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I assume you mean List of current world boxing champions, in which case I don't think it's too bad,and I'm not certain it's vandalism either. Relist if it picks up or becomes more regular. GedUK  20:03, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated vandalism by IP address. Robert McClenon (talk) 12:11, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Resumption of silly vandalism due to YouTube video (see [2]) after protection expired. Begoontalk 10:33, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  19:55, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Widr (talk) 17:30, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Drmies (talk) 17:33, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think temporary protection would be appropriate as there have been several BLP violations recently. Widr (talk)

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
