Wikipedia:Requests for history merge/Archive 26

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 103.6.159.78 (talk) at 12:23, 15 December 2016 (→‎Rejected requests December 2016). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the {{histmerge}} template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.

This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).

Administrators need to read Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.

The procedure

  • Place a {{histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
  • If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut-and-paste move to a better title), having the template on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.
  • An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary.
  • Once this is done, the admin may post the result here.

22:15, 5 July 2015‎ Jerry Efobi contains an edit about a person named "Jerry Efobi" ;
These should be separated into two different draftspace articles. "Draft:Biography" should be considered for being salted to prevent people from writing biographies at a useless pagename, and jumbling multiple biographies together. -- 65.94.171.217 (talk) 05:16, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
  • DRAFT:Bio has the history of three separate biographies on it

all other edits are about a person named "Dr. Jans Aasman"

@Anthony Appleyard: It's the extensive history going back to 2005 now at Northern Giraffe that applies to the title Giraffa. I guess it's not strictly cut-and-paste, but I thought I'd indicated properly the direction for the history. There's a weird move followed by a cut and paste. History of Northern Giraffe up to this diff belongs with Giraffa. Plantdrew (talk) 21:15, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
@Anthony Appleyard: How would you recommend that I fix this? Don't want to spend a lot of time diffing and pasting, then get all my work reverted for policy reasons. Little Will (talk) 06:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
