Yes I see what you mean, sorry. I refer to Jack Green (1905-1960), footballer who played for Carlton and Hawthorn. Ancestry.com actually show him as John Joseph Patrick "Jack" Green. Hi. I'd suggest keeping the article title as Jack Green (footballer born 1905) if that's what you mean, "Jack Green" seems to be the most commonly used name in references.(WP:COMMONNAME). (Well some people put living people when the person was born in 1910 because there is no DOD and other times I've seen them put year of death missing when it is possible they are alive like being born in 1940!) This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

AWB Script

Hi,
I see that you have imported the AWB Script. I have a question about it and the script author seems to be inactive here since January, so I try with you
In the « Skip » tab, when I use the option « When page contains: » simultaneously with « When page doesn't contain: », the script skip every pages when I start it. Do you have an idea of the problem ? Do there is a way to use simultaneously these options ? If you don't have a clue of what I'm talking about, do you know someone who can help me ?

Hello again, The content of the page List of Twenty20 cricket matches played by Nepal has been restored by a user. It's not about which page was created first but about what is the general accepted and used trend in naming the Wikipedia articles. But the user seem to ignore it. Hi Cricshady. I performed the previous merges per WP:BOLD to try and rectify what is a ridiculous situation where we have two editors making identical edits to identical lists, I just picked the earliest created list for the one to be merged into and later chose the one you requested here for naming consistency. What needs to be done, seeing as this has been contested, is you need to make another merge proposal like that previously attempted. If you look through the lists and those in the subcategories at Category:Twenty20 cricket lists we have a mixture of "Twenty20" and "Twenty20 cricket" being used. So there is no accepted trend, yes the article is called Twenty20 but most existing lists do use "Twenty20 cricket". As the last merge proposal didn't attract any attention I'd suggest posting a neutral notice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cricket notifying people that a discussion is taking place. If it's to one of the articles, last time I checked they didn't seem to have been all transferred over, so I'd think that an archive link will be needed. Sure. Watson is not listed with an asterisk (or any other symbol you want to come up with) to signify doubt over his Brownlow win in any reliable sources. The AFL does not do so and have made no such announcement over the eligibility of his Brownlow win.[1]. Your first source is speculation over what could happen and the second does not even mention the Brownlow. Using an asterisk against his name is original research and defamatory (see also our policy on biographies of living persons). It is also defamatory to make a statement in the article that his win is pending investigation unless you have significant sourcing to back that up.

There's a significant difference between the situation now and where we were with this six months ago, when this conversation was had. On a similar topic, Charles McGrath and Dave McGrath (footballer, born 1872) are almost certainly the same person but I can't find a source to explicitly make the connection. All I can find are references which indicate that Fitzroy's other Dave McGrath, David G. McGrath, is the son of the politician (and also from the South Ballarat Football Club). That at least points to some affinity between the family and both clubs, but I can't get anything concrete to connect the politician to the 1900 Fitzroy player. Adam Voges and Batting Averages

You reverted my edit stating that "claims need appropriate supporting references, not hyperbole from one journalist". However, you aren't clear on what constitutes "an appropriate supporting reference". (Ironically, you accuse me of subjectivity, while yourself being subjective.) I can't see anything wrong about my edit. Don Bradman's average is, in fact, iconic and deserves mention in the lead. Adam Voges has historically been the only batsman to come close to this, and has been compared by numerous people (not just one journalist, I can give more references) to Bradman. So, while his average remains high, I think both names deserve mention in the lead. Please explain objectively why you feel otherwise. 96.248.68.27 (talk) 00:08, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Appropriate supporting references would be articles that make serious claims that Voges has rivalled "Bradman's status in the game's elite". I'll save you the time, you won't find one which goes beyond a mention of statistics. Voges is not the only batsman to have a Bradmanesque start to their career. I'd suggest reading about Jimmy Adams, who averaged 87 after 12 Tests. Barely averaged 40 in the end. More recently Mike Hussey averaged 84 after 20 Tests. If you think Voges averaging 95 is significantly better than both of those, consider that he is only one low score away from averaging in the 80s as well. I had a little chuckle to myself when the Hun / Fox Footy ran an article today that talked of how "only 38 people have done it since 1913" – in the space of two hours I found four more, surely you'd just say "at least"! But I guess that is the state of journalism (or lack thereof) these days...

Incidentally I just went back and checked if anyone has recently edited the AFL quiz and noticed that the Pope finally provided us with an answer to the final question, some seven years after it was asked in 2009 ... that's a long time to leave us hanging. Junior tennis players are presumed notable if they have "been in the top 3 of the junior ITF world rankings", cyclists need to have competed in a UCI, Grand Tour or Olympic race and merely competing in the Ironman World Championship is not enough, a "top ten finish" is required for a presumption of notability. Invitation to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). Disambiguation (help needed)

Thanks for your message about disambiguation links. In the last week or so I have disambiguated (de-linked) over 1,000 links to point to the right article. Where I am not familiar with a topic I feel it is better to highlight the fact that a link to a dab is present than to get it wrong (about 10 have been reverted as pointing to the wrong thing or "not needed here") in the hope that those with the specialist will be able to address them so that readers get taken to the correct article. To pick a couple of examples: in several examples a link to Negro Southern League did not include a date and therefore I unsure which article should be the target. One of my specific difficulties is that US states are often referred two by two letter abbreviations which as someone from Europe I am not familiar with (and some other readers around the world might not be). For some of the medical links (eg Equine encephalitis) it could be harmful/dangerous for someone without the necessary knowledge to select one of these.— Rod talk 06:44, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'd say so too. I've done it that way before in the past but got reverted too many times for "removing sourced content". Jevansen is quite on-target with that comment. Please dial your own hair-trigger down a bit. Even if this one was not actually spam, one mistake by someone with over 240K edits probably doesn't merit an immediate admin report. But istead, I am an admin and already concurred with the "spam" assessment, and I know other admins and editors agree based on their edit-summaries as well. WP:CITESPAM is a component of WP:SPAM. James Ward (tennis) - categories

Regarding [6][7] ... Category:British male tennis players is a parent category of Category:English male tennis players so according to James Ward (tennis) ought only be in the child category, not both, according to WP:SUBCAT. Hi Mitch. Yes, I think it should be non diffusing. It pretty much says that in the description of Category:British tennis players, even though it doesn't have the non-diffusing tag. Players can represent England in the Commonwealth Games, but Great Britain in the Olympics etc. Andy Murray won his Wimbledon titles under the British flag so I'd would be strange not having him under that category. Kuwaiti footballers - duplicate?

Hi Jevansen, sorry to bother you, but I don't know Wikipedia policies on how to proceed with my "issue" and on the articles your name is the most recent non-bot non-IP. I suspect that the articles Sulaiman Abdulghafour and Sulaiman Abdulgahfoor treat the same person even though some of the data differ. Reason being: two international goalkeepers for Kuwait born within 5 days of each other, both playing for the national side, both having the same name (the difference is obviously exclusively because of transliteration from Arabic. Hi, I suspect you're right. The 21 February birthdate is likely a typo because both wikipedia articles are sourced to profiles which give 26 February. In terms of spelling of his name, best to go with the most reliable sources, FIFA uses Sulaiman Abdulghafour, so I'd suggest the solution is we merge into that article but fix the birthdate.
